Hello All

I see from another board that FM BTM Re loaded, or what not will be airing 12/4/10. I dont get VH1, so was wondering if some kind souls could maybe post it? or maybe it will be on thrown down? I prefer Torrents

But, any thoughts on where this will be so we can see it, would be appreciated

Yeah I saw it on the Stevie board, but it definitely belongs on this board. Actually I think its on Vh1 classic, not Vh1. Vh1 classic is one of those extra cable channels, if you will. I plan on watching and I can post updates on it through out the broadcast. It just a 1 hour documentary basically updating the one they did around 1997-98.

yeah. VH1 Classic. 9 or so air times spread out throughout the week starting saturday 12/4. nickslive site (as well as vh1 site) has all the air times listed.

New Tweet from David Wild:

Fleetwood Mac fans: I ran into one of the producers of the "Behind The Music Remastered" that airs tomorrow. He said it's great.

As it turns out, MOST of the members did new interviews. And apparently I'm wonderful.

Really good all new introduction. The main part begins with Peter Green and the early blues mentions and the revolving door of guitar players. It seems to be very similiar to the original broadcast in '97/98. Talking some about Christine and John and Lindsey and Stevie. Rhiannon is showed, not sure which version it is but anyway. Rumours album gets introduced as they head to commercial...

lindsey clearly didn't want her in the band -

LOL..."...she's certainly not gonna come out and play Sheryl Crow songs!"

Buckingham clearly was never going along with that one. I sense Mick and Stevie were on board with it, John probably was indifferent to the idea, and Lindsey definitely was the driving force behind it never happening.

They certainly could have cut Stevie's "when you're in Fleetwood Mac, and you're doing a lot of other...STUFF" or whatever her quote is exactly about having a personal life and being in the band...I've always hated that stupid snippet, it sounded ridiculous in 1997 and it sounds the same way in 2010.

Actually, I think that clip may have been from some of the interviews she did when "In the Meantime" came out. I'd be really surprised if Chris did a new interview for this rather small project. Certainly wish that she would have though!

I'd say almost half of it was different from the original, so different parts only:

They used a lot of footage from Destiny Rules doc, and some from Live in Boston. They also used several minutes from Lindsey's VH1 BTM, which was somewhat weird - the part starting from how he and Kristen met, through kids and wedding, and interview with his brother and Kristen talking about spectre of Stevie and studio hermit, with Soul Drifter playing in the background. It was so obviously patched in and a part of another show... they should have patched more of Destiny rules doc/LiB/SYW if they wanted newer stuff... but anyway. Using Tusk era pics when talking about Rumours, using Under the Skin cover pic when talking how they got together for Lindsey's solo album between inauguration and the Dance. Descriptions of Christine leaving, with parts of Bleed to Love Her and Everywhere from the Dance spliced in.

A lot of talk about SYW album, but almost no songs from it (other than instrumental parts of Miranda and poppy SYW song with lasso dance over and over - they played it more than their biggest hits it seemed - don't know how that fits with the statements made how SYW might be their best album so far, but oh well). Interesting how much time dedicated to Sheryl Crow situation - more than they ever said about it, it seems. While discussing Unleashed tour (one pic from Unleashed, Stevie and Lindsey in action in front of a drum kit). Appears Stevie and Mick wanted Sheryl in a band, and Lindsey didn't (saying what would she do as a part of FM tour - play Christine's songs? she certainly wasn't going to play Sheryl Crow songs!).

The only new interviews were Mick and Lindsey i think - a lot of snippets with both. Seems like they were taped some time last summer (Lindsey had on similar atire to the US Open one). Christine newer interview snippet was shown, I think the same background as in the Don't Stop documentary so probably taped at that time or before.

Outside people interviewed - Paul Lester, David Wild, Sheryl Crow (i think her snippet was from some time in the late 90s, maybe spliced in from the original BTM).

Mick and Lindsey talked about wanting to make at least one more album. Mick made it sound like SYW was not as cohesive as they would have liked b/c Mick/John/Lindsey were working on an album for a long time before Stevie joined them so she was not a part of the whole process. Lindsey said oh well, SYW was not the first not completely cohesive album they've done and referred back to Tusk (true!), and reiterated Tusk is his favorite FM album.

Mick saying that now they are Buckingham Nicks upfront with Fleetwood Mac in the back, or something like that. He followed this with something that sounded like he's thinking of a tour where there would be some Lindsey and Stevie solo songs mixed in with the Mac songs but what he said can be interpreted in a number of different ways.

Christine announces she's leaving - they play "I Do" from Time!

I actually liked that the show gave overall impression that FM really was the 5 of them, and even though Christine left at the point where the original BTM ended, her leaving was given a lot of space and discussion.

I laughed at her "breakfast room" comment, because she said that in the eighties and she was still using that term in the nineties and I really don't know what a "breakfast room" is. I'm familiar with the breakfast nook. And sure when you stay in a hotel, there's a restaurant where you can go and have breakfast, but it's not really a breakfast room, per se.

These rockers keep late hours, so when they all finally got together in the studio at around 2 p.m., I'm sure Krafts Services didn't cater them eggs and bacon in a breakfast room.

A breakfast room just seems to be some mysterious place unique to FM where Lindsey horrified Stevie with his new girlfriends.

Of course, it may be a British term that she stole from Mick and the McVies.

Idk! I cannot fathom them NOT asking her, which means she declined. So why? She could take a break to play a corporate gig, but could not do a simple interview? Poor management or spite towards VH1.

Okay, just finished watching it, here is what I thought.

Overall it was pretty good, but there were some things the grated my nerves.

-Mirage, Tango, Behind The Mask, and Time were all glazed over by one single sentence. I can understand brushing over BTM and Time, but Mirage and Tango should have gotten more attention.

- Lindsey's comment about The Chain just sounded so bleh to me. "The Chain is just about us sticking it out.. The Chain, keep us together...." Lol, okay Lindsey, thanks for dumbing it down for us!

- Why did they include John's alcohol comment twice?

- Stevie's comment about not bringing your "personal life" into Fleetwood Mac... really?

- Lindsey should be barred from ever saying the word "soap opera" again.

- The whole five minute Lindsey Buckingham Behind The Music mini-show... Why did they interview his wife and brother? That is more time they should have dedicated to the 80's.

- "After Say You Will, the members went on to work on solo projects of their own" *TISL covers comes across screen* *facepalm*

- No new Stevie interviews! Where the hell was our woman?!

But all in all, it was pretty awesome just to see something Fleetwood Mac related on TV! And it was pretty good other than those flaws. One thing that caught my attention tho was Mick's comment that went something like, "I think the next time we go out there will be a mix of something Lindsey and Stevie have done that maybe we can play on stage." WHAT? It seems like he isn't saying that there is going to be a new Mac album, but they will tour and play new solo stuff from them or possibly Buckingham Nicks stuff? However, earlier in the show he said something like "Well it is BuckinghamNicks up front and Fleetwood Mac backing them... that IS the band! That's the way it is supposed to be!" So I think he didn't originally say this part first. I imagine it went like this.

Interviewer: So the next time Fleetwood Mac goes out, will you guys be playing any new music?

Mick: I think the next time we go out there will be a mix of something Lindsey and Stevie have done that maybe we can play on stage.

Interviewer then asks what he means by just stuff Lindsey and Stevie will do, as in outside of Fleetwood Mac and then Mick says his comment about FM being BN with FM in the back and therefore it would be new Mac material, but it originated from Stevie and Lindsey since they are the songwriters. But IDK! Any ideas?

Something about the way this band comes off in interviews just annoys me at times. Maybe it's something to do with the times we live in now, things are a lot different than they were in 1997, and sitting and listening to rich, famous people act like making Rumours was such a horrifying, painful, and exhausting experience that they are "lucky to be alive" afterward just seems ridiculous. Seriously, you made an album...you went to a studio, played instruments, sang, produced, yadda yadda. And everyone was breaking up...right, that happens every day too. Hell, LB and SN weren't even married, and none of them (aside from Mick) had any kids involved in these splits. I don't know if this kind of self-pity really resonates with people anymore. I know I personally thought it sounded amusing 13 years ago, but I was 17..now I'm 30, and I just think, seriously, you poor bastards, stfu....move on.

To me, this was a silly revision to what was already a half-assed approach to covering Fleetwood Mac...behind the music. In 1997 it left out a LOT...(1967-75 lasts about what, 1-2 minutes?)...(1980-96 is covered in a phrase, aside from the Clinton inauguration)...I guess I would have thought a revised show would have maybe not focuses as much on repeating what is already known. Gee, NOTHING to report about Mirage, Tango? The whole 1987 breakup and subsequent tours with Billy and Rick? It's not as glamorous as Stevie cleaning houses to make ends meet, but it's the band's history. And I thought the 1997-now stuff should have been beefed up a lot. What about mentioning how they were asked to perform at the White House again in 2001 for Clinton's going away party...I would think that is an interesting tid bit a lot of folks might not know. Additionally, where's Stevie's thoughts about the SYW Tour/album. That was reported quite a bit after the tour ended but no real mention of anything other than the admission of a lack of cohesiveness on the album. Peacekeeper, Say You Will, and Miranda to me weren't the best representations of the album either. The best stuff in the show in my opinion was the Sheryl Crow piece which got more time than I ever thought. Lindsey made me laugh with the comment about her not singing her own songs...clearly he was appalled at the idea.

I wasn't expecting much more from VH1 really, but I think a more detailed "part 2" would have been better...focusing on the years since 1980 would have been more interesting to me. And clearly, new interviews with all of the band members (and Christine) would have been most ideal.

They played Don't Stop but also a mini-set...I can't recall the exact set order, but exactly what you'd expect if they were to only play 10 songs...The Chain, Dreams, I'm So Afraid, Gold Dust Woman, Landslide, Big Love, Gypsy, Tusk, Rhiannon, Go Your Own Way.

I was appalled too and I'm entirely on his side, but I wish he would shut up. Sheryl was so gracious when asked about his comments. All she said was that clearly they see things differently. Given his behavior, she could have said a whole lot more. Obviously, I wanted him to say and do anything to stand up against her inclusion behind the scenes, but there's no reason to publicly trash her. He did it 20 times during the Unleashed tour. Having read the previous barbs, the interviewers know he has something sarcastic to say and always ask him about it. The fact that he keeps obliging them just makes him look bad, not Sheryl.

She was presumptuous in making the announcement. FM nipped that in the bud. It's over. Say something generic and pleasant and then shut up.

Honestly, this guy is going to be fevered and delirious on his death bed saying that John and Mick tried to make him use a pick, Christine burned her bridges and Sheryl Crow didn't know her place.

yeah the Lindsey stuff about his wife kids and stuff was really uncalled for. What about Mick, John, and Stevie's family. Didn't Stevie lose her father recently?

All their 80's contributions got screwed. What does Lindsey have against Sheryl Crow - sounds like he don't want someone taking some of his spotlight.

No new interviews from Stevie and not much respect was given to Christine. no wonder she left the "Stevie/Lindsey show"!:D

These Behind the Music's really need to be 90 mins or 2 hrs esp for certain groups/artists. Justin Beibers can be 7 minutes and 24 seconds!!

That's all...yah!!:wavey:

Honestly, this guy is going to be fevered and delirious on his death bed saying that John and Mick tried to make him use a pick, Christine burned her bridges and Sheryl Crow didn't know her place.

But only the quote he makes about Stevie will make the newspapers.

- The whole five minute Lindsey Buckingham Behind The Music mini-show... Why did they interview his wife and brother?

i couldnt finish watching it i had to turn it off after they were going on and on and on about Lindsey and his damn wife.

Don't you mean John and Yoko?

:lol::lol::lol:

It's so laughable how they threw in those old BTM interview clips of Kristen. Talk about RAN-DOM... anywhoo...they didn't even mention the third child, Stella. Why it is such a miracle that Lindsey got married and had children later in life I don't get. Ridiculous. They didn't feel the need to emphasize Mick and John's wives and children and technically, they are "Fleetwood Mac". So craz-ee!!

Probably editors' stupid idea of showing how they are all so normal and settled now - and therefore able to work together again - since it was followed by the clip from Destiny Rules doc in which Lindsey says to Stevie something like "don't worry, just do what you need to, and we'll make the song into something wonderful."

So - Mick is now off drugs:], John stopped drinking:], Lindsey has a family:]. All 3 of them found what they were looking for... But the part about Lindsey from BBC's Don't Stop doc last year was so much more appropriate - they just had Mick saying something, instead of some VH1 editor thinking "hey we already own the piece of tape from 2001 describing this, let's splice it in whether or not it fits!"

Stevie got a new rock and roll penthouse and one million dollars!

And, yes - not only was it edited by a thirteen year old, but it a thirteen year old who forgot to google what year TISL was released, edit out LB saying his mother died "two years ago" and add in Stevie saying she and Lindsey are not best friends, not touch feely friends, have only been to the other's house (and criticized the decor while there) once, and how she CHOSE not to marry or have children but since Lindsey has children she'll probably be friends with him again when they're grown.

I just wish he'd stopped talking about Sheryl. She didn't need to be joined with FM. She shouldn't have talked about it prematurely. She didn't get in the band. He won. Why keep rubbing it in? If he has all that extra time on his hands, why not go out and try to find himself some hair plugs?

The first mess up to me is when they said that Rhiannon was there first number 1 hit. I thought Rhiannon only went to like 11 or 10. Dreams was there 1st and only US # 1 song. At least that I know of. If I'm wrong please correct me. Songs out of sinc. They spoke about the 80's than went back to Tusk. They showed SYW than went back to TISL (lp cover). All Stevie's interviews were from 97. Nothing new. At least thats what I saw. Not very impressive. I don't think I'd want them to redo Stevie's cause they'd probably mess that up too. He's over 60 for crying out loud. Most men's hair begins to thin in later life if they have any at all left. Heck, the other two men in FM have far less hair. Also, I find nothing wrong with what he said about Crow... it was short and to the point. The questions was asked and he responded. I took at as there was nobody that could replace Christine and they certainly weren't gonna have an outsider come in a do their own solo stuff having never been in the band. I also read somewhere that Stevie told Crow that being in Fleetwood Mac was like being in the army because you have to be at a certain place at a specific time. Oh no! That must be so difficult. I am way tired of her crying about how hard being in Fleetwood Mac is. Yeah, it must be real rough to be a multi-millionaire and come in with partial song ideas that someone else helps you make them great and gives you 100% writing credits.

Point is only 2 members gave new interviews and I doubt it's because the others were shut out. They probably declined.

Behind the Music has always been really crappy with syncing the correct music with the era they're talking about. I remember on Metallica's when they were talking about first starting out/moving to San Francisco in the early 80's, VH1 decided to play Reload songs (released in '97) in the background.

I was appalled too and I'm entirely on his side, but I wish he would shut up.

You are exactly right. It was really the only "new" thing in the entire show that was worthwhile, but it should have been addressed much better. First of all, that piece of Sheryl they showed was from Stevie's BTM back in '98 I believe and had nothing to do with her too early announcement of joining Fleetwood Mac. Second of all, Lindsey was so abrasive about it. As if the hallowed stage of Fleetwood Mac was a laughable place for a has-been like Sheryl Crow (that's the impression I got anyway). Lindsey and Stevie just come off as such babies sometimes...I too am happy that the Sheryl Crow thing was nixed but I truly don't think it was a stretch or something blasphemous. And no, she wouldn't just play Christine McVie songs (though Linds, you and Stevie do that...) or Sheryl Crow songs (of course, they do that with their own too), maybe you would RECORD a NEW album where the three of you could have new Fleetwood Mac material to chose from. Regardless, I do agree, good call on not bringing Sheryl on board...I think she would have regretted the move big time. At this stage of the game I'd have to say the idea of someone brand new joining the Mac is pretty silly.

How bout..."yeah, Mick, John, Stevie and I all discussed Sheryl touring with us and it truly did not make much sense to add a fifth member at this point. The announcement about it was premature and we have moved on.."

Exactly. I've never served but that comment about it being like the Army is honestly so ridiculous and insulting to anyone who is or has been in the Army that it's beyond comprehension. Being in a freaking major band that makes millions of dollars, plays several dozen concerts per year every five to ten years and recording music is like being in the army? Because you have to be somewhere at a specific time? Uh, Stevie, that's called a JOB! I just have always hated that army comment, it shows how out of touch with reality some people can be at times. But again, like I said earlier, this nonsense about being in Fleetwood Mac being so mentally and physically draining is enraging. If it's so bad, quit, and be done with it. It's a good thing I still think the music these folks created over the years is good stuff!

Yeah yeah but it's NOT Fleetwood Mac!!!! You know, cause when you're in Fleetwood Mac, and you have a lot of other STUFF, you can't have kids and things because you have to be places and there's other people and like, it's just crazy, like the army!

Stevie interviews sometimes remind me of Sarah Palin with Katie Couric...you hear it and get to the end and think, what the HELL are you talking about!?

All kidding aside, Fleetwood Mac's output generally is disappointing. They've released exactly 8 albums of new music since the big Stevie/Lindsey join in 1975 with 4 separate band lineups. 35 years, 8 albums....4 of which happened in the first 7 years!

Problem is, he has given that response 20 times (no hyperbole there) and he finds new ways to be nasty about it with each answer.

When he was initially asked about her joining during the Unleashed tour, I didn't mind him venting a little. In fact, I appreciated his candor back then, since the other Macsters were not being exactly honest. But now his little jabs are just beating a dead horse unnecessarily.

What Stevie said about Sheryl not wanting to rehearse on Mother's Day was probably a big lie and Mick claiming that being a new mother it was hard for Crow to be in FM was just -- well, insulting actually. But at least it was diplomatic. When you continue to be mean-spirited about something for years, it reflects badly upon you and says nothing about Sheryl Crow's possible involvement in FM.

As for his hair, I don't care if he's bald or balding. It was not a reflection on the state of his hair, as much as a commentary on the maxim that idle hands are the devil's tools. I just think if he has lots of free time on his hands, he might want to spend it investigating transplant options rather than bashing Sheryl. I believe that would be more productive. Alternatively, I have also suggested that he go polish his boots.

I wasn't able to watch, did he also say that Christine burned her bridges? Another thing that he's harped on that doesn't really make sense because I find it hard to believe that if Christine had any desire at all to perform with them again, she wouldn't be able to do so.

Some of Stevie's comments being discussed have always bugged me to. She has always kind of insinuated that certain aspects of being in Fleetwood Mac were completely against her will, like the breakfast room comment and the army comment. It kind of makes me want to see how Stevie would do on something like The Celebrity Apprentice.

Exactly. John, Stevie and Mick would fall over themselves welcoming her back. One of the things I find most annoying is that when he elaborates, Lindsey doesn't mean it like that. He says that what he means is that Christine sold her house, divorced, left California and settled down in England. But he knows the connotation of that phrase means that someone created bad feelings when they exited, that would make their return unwelcome. He knows that's not true and should not use language that implies that. I honestly think he just does it to be mischievous.

Also, I don't think he was as happy to get 1/3 more room as he would have us think he was. I think he was sad. Stevie said something in 2003 like Lindsey decides whether or not he wants to be in FM and then the rest of us say "yes" or "no" to him. Christine said "no." I know Christine leaving Fleetwood Mac was for her personal happiness and going back to England is something she'd wanted to do for decades. Yet, I do think he felt rejected and was not happy about his departure, even though he paints it as an opportunity.

I don't think he minded Christine leaving honestly. Maybe he had to adjust to the idea, but they had plenty of time to do that. They knew they were doing another album after The Dance in five years and they knew Christine would not be a part of it.

What kills me is how he goes on and on about there not being any keyboards and how he could emphasize his guitar more. Really?!? Guess Brett is finger-synching the keyboards.

I don't think they always knew Christine wouldn't be part of SYW. In fact, Stevie says they waited hoping that she would be. Then, when SYW began they thought still thought she might be. Mick talks about hearing Lindsey and Christine on the phone together. Yeah, they knew in 2002 that Christine wasn't going to be a part of it, but I don't think they knew that before 2002. They had hope.

As far as what Lindsey feels now that they've been on two tours together alone, probably he doesn't miss Christine anymore, but I think he minded greatly in 2002-2003. His 33% more room talk . . . don't get me wrong. I think he liked having the chance to do more songs on stage. Yeah, I don't think he was crying because he was so miserable about having both Come and ISA in the set. But I don't think he didn't feel a hole and I don't think he didn't mind.

As far as Brett goes, that's just like Dan playing more guitar on Meantime than Chris plays piano. Chris, you're all alone now, so bring out those keyboards.

You know everyone talks about Silver Springs on The Dance and this BTM reminded me of the Chain. When Stevie is standing with her back towards the audience and her head turned towards Lindsey during The Chain, that's incredibly powerful. It's like tuning out the world and focusing on him as she exhorts the chain to keep them together. For me, it resonates way more than that particular version of SS did.

As for the Tusk photo shoot (yeah, I'd love for a clear copy like the clips we see on this BTM). That moment when Stevie is goofing around and leans off balance and puts all of her weight on Christine, makes Christine push at her and topple over herself. Then, John comes in with a steadying hand and pushes Christine (and Stevie) back up right. Oh my goodness, it makes my heart melt. A playful, meaningless, alcohol-fueled, drug-caked moment that I just want to hold in time forever.

Ah, why was Canada paying all that money to see the Dionne Quintuplets for years, when these five were waiting to emerge? My beautiful, moody quintet slouching towards Bethlehem (well Sausalito) to be born.

Oh, you probably already have seen that. It's very short and it's like 30 years old now. Just seeing the little clip of it mingled into the show made me nostalgic.

As others have said, the editing was not so great. Most jarring for me was when they were talking about The Dance and they had been using clips from The Dance and then, without explaining that time had passed and that everyone was "looking back" they just suddenly showed recent clips of the guys (still talking about The Dance) and it was like they had aged 13 years in a 2 second time span. I thought they had been caught in a nuclear explosion fall out.

It was lovely when Mick said he held Christine in his arms and she cried and said, "don't ask me." Also, when he said that he doesn't plead, but a couple of other people did plead with her to stay.

I think David Wild got a little carried away with himself (or with Stevie) wondering how Chris felt being the woman in the band when suddenly Stevie, "possibly the most beautiful woman in the world came in." Ugh.

As for Wild's comment that Christine may have felt pushed out around The Dance because the focus was so much on Lindsey and Stevie, I do remember Stevie saying in 2003 that even Christine knew that they always wanted to sing together. Combined with Christine really being ready to hang up her skates and Lindsey and Stevie's willingness to, for instance, go on Letterman and just sing together, I do think there was a BN vibe going on back then that made it easier for Christine to leave.

On the other hand, I loved it when Stevie would leave the stage for NTF and ISA and Christine would stay. That was beautiful to me, although as The Dance tour got longer, she did spend less time on stage for Not That Funny.

Yeah, it must be real rough to be a multi-millionaire and come in with partial song ideas that someone else helps you make them great and gives you 100% writing credits.

She should get 100% writing credit because she wrote the songs! Lindsey helps to arrange them, but she writes them. Anyway, I agree with your overall argument: it's growing tiresome to hear about how hard it is to be in Fleetwood Mac, what with it being like the army and all. Come on Stevie! I'd trade places with you in a heartbeat! :)
