View Full Version : I Can't Wait Lyric Mystery

So around 4:18 in I Can't Wait, Stevie says something that I have never been able to fully make out. I always assumed it was just "Oh no time well you make up your mind baby!!" but my friend recently pointed out to me that he always hears it as "Go home to your cobwebs and think of your sorrow baby" which I thought would be a really interesting lyric, so I gave it another listen, but now I swear she says something about "fire baby". Any ideas? Or is this just a coke induced ramble or whargarble???

I always thought it was "There's no hope for time while you make up your mind, baby." I'm not sure that's right, though.

I Can't Wait is just full of lyric mysteries! How we get "How will we feel 20 years from now" I'll never know!

As to the part in question, I always thought it was "Lord knows time will make up your mind, baby".

But now that it's been put to me, I can definitely hear 'hope' at the beginning (and I don't know why I was hearing what I thought I was hearing before that). Can't quite make out a sensible sentence in there though....

Yeah, like Sanne2 said, I have always thought it was Lori or Sharon saying that.

What baffles me about this sample is that I can hear "How will we feel ten years from now, Rick" the first two times... but the third, sped-up sample sounds like a different sample because I can not hear "Rick" at the end... it sounds like it ends with "honey" or something like that. One of these days, I need to slow that down and listen to it.

UPDATE:
I listened to it slowed down and I guess it is the same sample... just sounds different to the ear sped-up. It also is positioned slightly earlier in relation to the beat, when compared to when the sample begins to play the other times... interesting.

I always thought there was a little more that gets cut off at the end while they were playing with the sample. It always sounds to me, especially the last time they play it when it's really slowed down, that she says "How will we feel twenty years from now looking back'.

Not at the end, when she's wrapping up, at 4:19. No one can listen to that and think she's repeating the "wasting my time" lyric.

ETA it's right before she goes into the "How can I love you / how do I love you / how can I love you" fade out. Very end of the song.

That's part of the beauty of this song. You can just sing whatever you want because Stevie's rambling leaves it open for interpretation. hahaha

Yeah, I read that too but several other lyric sites list it either way. I would have to listen to it again all the way through and really pay attention (I seem to get too caught up in the song and forget what I'm doing!), but she may use both interchangeably in the song. I know she's saying "If" on the section I was listening to anyway...

I'm quoting myself because I was thinking of another part of the song so I was wrong here. The part you are referring to sounds like "No hold the time while you make up your mind" but obviously that's not it because it makes no sense. The fourth word definitely sounds like time but the first 3 baffle me.

I cant wait lyrics

Stevie Nicks I Can't Wait Lyrics:
Yes, I know you
Sometime she talks to him
Sometimes when she's only dreaming
Then when she wakes up
Somehow she still believes him

Yes, I know you
Tho we've been out of touch
Yes, I know you
To be continued, it's too much baby

I can't wait...I can't wait
Well, I've got to know when I can
see you again, now baby
I can't wait...I can't wait
Am I wasting my time while
you make up your mind
Well, I can't wait...I can't wait
Yes, I know you
[ Find more Lyrics on http://mp3lyrics.org/LYOr ]
Tho we've been out of touch
I can't wait...I can't wait
What can I do when I'm crazy for you

She wonders how many more hours
Her heart will feel broken
In secret she says she needs to see him
But no words are spoken

She dances around in a circle
Well she's got that feeling now
Blame it on something at first sight
Put the blame on me if you want to
To be continued

I can't wait...I can't wait
Am I wasting my time while
you make up your mind
Well, I can't wait...I can't wait
I got to know when I can see you again
Well, I can't wait...I can't wait
I can't wait...I can't wait
I can't wait...I can't wait
How will we feel 20 years from now
Lyrics: I Can't Wait, Stevie Nicks [end]

Hmm... I think you might be referring to the "how would-" "how would-", which is just the same sample that plays at various speeds/pitches, which in its complete form says "how would we feel ten years from now, Rick"... and I have always thought that it's either Lori or Sharon speaking.

If this is the wrong spot, my apologies... but that's the only thing that I can think of that might sound like "got it, got it"
