View Full Version : Rock A Little - 25 Years!

Wow! Can you believe it?! Rock A Little is 25 years old this month! It was a long 2 year & 5 month wait since The Wild Heart. We only had "Violet And Blue", "Sorcerer", Westwood One radio concerts, uncredited backing vocals on "Don't Come Around Here No More" and endless re-listenings to Stevie's previous recordings to get us through that long gap.
As I noted in my "Rock A Little - November 1984 Track Listing" thread, there were 21 songs fully recorded and ready in November 1984 for release for Rock A Little, with "Mirror, Mirror" as the lead single to be released in December. Then, in August 1985, Ginny Kamano announced that 25 songs were now recorded for the album's consideration.
I had two thoughts. First, can we come up with a pretty definitive list of the 25 that were fully recorded. And second, maybe we can do an UPGRADE Thread for the unreleased Outtakes & Demos from the Rock A Little era. Most of us had to suffer through horrible sound quality of most of those songs, but several much better sounding versions have surfaced in recent years. Maybe we could post and try to find the perfect versions?
Anyway, for the RAL 25, we can start with the 11 songs on the album:
1. I Can't Wait
2. Rock A Little
3. Sister Honey
4. I Sing For The Things
5. Imperial Hotel
6. Some Become Strangers
7. Talk To Me
8. The Nightmare
9. If I Were You
10. No Spoken Word
11. Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You?
Then we have the official b-sides, soundtrack songs and other confirmed Rock A Little recordings:
12. One More Big Time Rock And Roll Star
13. Mirror, Mirror
14. Battle Of The Dragon
15. Are You Mine?
16. Reconsider Me
Next, I'll use songs from the track listing from November 1984:
17. Lady From The Mountains
18. Chanel, Chanel
19. The Dealer
20. Thousand Days
In August 1985, another song was added to the fully-recorded listing:
21. She Still Loves Him
So, that leaves 4 empty slots:
22.
23.
24.
25.
I'm gonna make my own guesses:
22. I Call You Missing
23. Rose Garden
24. Jimmy Come On Back
25. Running Through The Garden
Just guesses, of course. "Something Exquisite" definitely is in the running, and so is "Tied Up (In Promises)", but it's so hard to narrow down. Stevie surely recorded more than 25. Anyway, I was just trying to celebrate Rock A Little and its place in Stevie History.

Love! Love! Love! me some Rock A Little! the Wild Heart era was kinda wild but nothing compared to the Rock A Little era! my first Stevie concert was RAL tour. June 14, 1986. It was my first Stevie record i got to buy the day it was released.
my guesses for the other songs recorded during that time...(since i have demos for all these labeled as being from RAL)
Running Through The Garden
All The Beautiful Worlds (this was recorded for BD, WH and RAL right?)
Greta
and
Love Is Like A River
I Call You Missing and Jimmy Come On Back was WH era, i think. and I Call You Missing wasnt recorded again til OSOTM?
Rose Garden ...idk??
Tied Up ...WH?
Something Exquisite...not sure.

Well, since Marilyn Martin sings on "Jimmy Come On Back", and Stevie didn't meet her until The Wild Heart tour in Summer 1983, "Jimmy Come On Back" can't be from The Wild Heart. And Rock A Little is the only Stevie album that Marilyn sang on.
I forgot about "All The Beautiful Worlds". Although it sounds very The Wild Heart, evidence points to it actually being a very early song from Rock A Little. I have percussion guides dated October 1983 for Bobbye Hall to put overdubs onto "All The Beautiful Worlds" that month. That's why I think "All The Beautiful Worlds" truly is an early Rock A Little recording, much like "One More Big Time Rock And Roll Star", which was recorded in July 1983.
Rock A Little is so special to me! I still remember hearing "Talk To Me" on the radio for the first time in October 1985, on a dark and rainy night. I thought Stevie's newest voice was just incredible, all raspy and wild! Then, when I got the 45, I was in heaven with the glorious epic, "One More Big time Rock And Roll Star".
To this day, Rock A Little is Stevie's most listenable album for me in terms of variety and flow. So many different sounds and emotions... epic!

This era through Street Angel always makes me sad. You can hear the deterioration of the songwriting and vocals through this period. I Can't Wait is probably the last great rocker (with the Bella Donna/Wild Heart vocal) we will ever get.
Weren't "These Dreams" and "Don't Come Around Here No More" meant for this album? So many missed opportunities on this record. :distress:

maybe im remembering wrong...but wasnt TTM released to radio way before the actual 45 was released, like in early Sept?? idk...but everytime i heard it on the radio i always caught it half way through...around the 2 verse. and the "ive shown you all my cards" part, we thought she was saying "ive shown you...oh my god!" lol! i still sing it that way.
my first listen to OMBTRARS when the 45 came out, was thru huge stereo speakers...those opening chords and Stevies voice echoing was amazing. those same emotions come back everytime i listen to that song.
"Undah-covaaaaaaaaaaah" and the guitar behind her...i cant put it into words
the radio stations in Ohio never played the album version of ICW on the radio that i can recall, but i do remember hearing the extended remix on the radio once when the 12" was released in early summer of 86.
aah such sweet memories. can't believe its been 25 years!

What about What Has Rock And Roll Ever Done For You? And I know Joan of Arc was Tango, but I heard it was originally written for RAL??? And Ooh Ooh Baby? I always thought that was RAL too.

It's interesting... I used to really hate Rock A Little. I thought it was extremely dated and cheesy, and that Stevie's performances from that era were just total train wrecks lol. As time has passed though, I've come to just adore everything Rock A Little. There was so much passion in that era. Stevie didn't hold back, and wasn't afraid of musical and vocal experimentation. The album itself is just pure fun to me now... dated in the GOOD way. And Rock A Little was the last tour we saw Stevie's passionate side. Rock A Little seems to be the only Stevie album I've been playing this year in fact. Happy Birthday Rock A Little!!! :D

I effing LOVE Rock A Little! Just yesterday I was going through my unsorted files of mp3's and found 3 discs of RAL outtakes & demos (tho I think some of em are actually Wild Heart), there were a bunch I already had but some of em were "new", it made my day.
On those discs were also Rock-A-Bye Baby, All These Years, Night Gallery, Mabel Normand, City Of Hope and Gypsy Beggars.

I remembering the raw emotion in Stevie's voice and wondering what her pain was. I supposed it could have still been Robin's 1982 death, but Stevie sounded so heartbroken.
We wouldn't learn until 1989, in the Refelctions From The Other Side Of The Mirror interview, that some man had dumped Stevie in 1984, sending her into a huge writing spur. Two years later, in 1991, Stevie even revealed that man's name: Joe Walsh, surprising Stevie fans everywhere. (She sorta revealed it in the liner notes to TimeSpace, but not completely).
On Rock A Little, it sounds to me like Stevie is trying to laugh through her pain sometimes, and then cry some more.
And the song "Rock A Little"... Wow. Well, I love the long version, but, honestly, the album version is the killer, with that opening rasp: "Sometimes it rages... rock a little..." Stevie is SO intense! "Rock A Little" remains on of my favourite songs of all time.

Oh, Mike!!! That's exactly the chills I got hearing the parts you're describing of "One More Big Time Rock And Roll Star"~~!!!!! Just Stevie and Joe's guitar the first time, and the the second time with Stevie overdubbing herself and with the girls... That was SO totally different for Stevie!!! Just an incredible epic song! Oh, where "music lover" rolls right into the second "Undercover......"
When I make my own Rock A Little CDs, I always put "One More Big Time Rock And Roll Star" after "Some Become Strangers" and right before "Talk To Me". It fits SO perfectly!

Of course, later, I realized I'd heard other songs by Stevie and liked them, but with ICW, I knew who she was. I didn't know she was in Fleetwood Mac until TITN. Lucky for me, the band she was in included my very favorite musician...Lindsey Buckingham!!!

That's just about exactly how I'd translate it!!! :)
"Are You Mine?" ~ I usually use the version from the August 1987 Rock Stars radio interview, even if the intro is shortened. Mainly I use it since that version is a duet and there are no duets on Rock A Little. Also, Billy is listed in the credits for Rock A Little, so it's kinda keeping with the liner notes. In the interview, Stevie makes it seem as if this was the version she wanted on Rock A Little. Also, I'm trying to use only official releases for this version of Rock A Little.
Other times I'll use the solo Stevie version from the Masters. Billy plays guitar still, but doesn't sing. The intro is complete and Stevie's a little raspier, which I love.
But... since Stevie didn't write it, I'm thinking she wanted "Are You Mine?" to be the duet version, since it was a shout-out to her grandfather, Jess, whom she used to sing the song with when she was young.

What a cool story!
When "Edge Of Seventeen" got me into Stevie in November 1981, and I found out she was in Fleetwood Mac, I bought a bunch of their albums to hear her other songs. I was shocked to realized that in 1976 I had loved this song which I could never figure out the title to, and I learned it was a song by Stevie!
Title? "Rhiannon". :)

Most people who did not know the real title thought it was Will You Ever Win. Is that what you thought it was? In fact, on the original single it said that in parenthisees after the song title.

I think I did! I remember in 1976 hearing it on the radio, and trying to "sing" along with the "Rhiannon" on the chorus and having no idea what that word/sound was!
I also loved both front and back covers for Rock A Little. Even the lettering of the title was very different for Stevie, those simple red letters. And on the back, she quoted some mystery lyric that I would not know which song it came from until 1994, when I got my first outtake of "Thousand Days".

The shot on the back of the album is one of my all time favorite shots of Stevie. I have the promo poster for the album, which uses that shot, and it too is one of my favorite posters of Stevie.
"Rock A Little" is the first album of Stevie's I was eagerly waiting for. I had become a serious Stevie fan the previous year and back then the only way I knew of new music was thru MTV or Rolling Stone. I also used to flip thru the "new release" 45's at the record store. I found "Talk To Me" in that bin (it hadn't charted yet) and bought it without ever hearing a note of it. Got it home and played both sides non stop until I had both songs memorized (although it wasn't until "Enchanted" that I found of the correct words to OMBTRARS, I thought the line was "it sounded good on a deli cat, wine, women and song" which makes no sense at all!!).
I played the album nonstop (I also got "Tusk" that year for Christmas, so those two albums were played thru the winter of '85/'86). The RAL tour was the first time I saw Stevie as well. I have the platinum record award for the album (awarded to Modern Records). The album isn't my favorite album of hers, I don't think it's aged well, but it holds a lot of "firsts" for me, so it gets points for that.
Finally the thing about the album that I always thought was so cool was the line in "I Can't Wait" were it says "How will we feel twenty years from now..." that seemed like such a long time off, I was 14 when the album came out and to think that I would be 34 in twenty years seemed so far off, and here it is twenty FIVE years later!!!

Yes, a great line! In 2007, Stevie still proclaimed Joe to be the Great Love Of Her Life, over twenty years later...
I miss my ROCK A LITTLE Tour T-shirts!!!!!
I wore the black one with the "I Can't Wait" video shot on it to death; it finally fell apart. However, I loved the white T of the album cover even more (I look better in white? Me, as vain as Stevie!), but an ex-boyfriend stole that in 1990.

I still have the black one, it's WAY too small for me now!! But I have it, I wore that for a very long time. There's a small hole in it though, the day after the concert I was wearing the shirt and my cat jumped up on me and put her claw thru it, actually right into Stevie's face!! My mom fixed it as best she could, but I know the hole is still there!

I think that it was me and I know that you heard it
I was crazy about you that's how it always was
Do you think about me now as I sing about this love
When it rains it pours
When there's no one at the door
Yes he did send me flowers
Well that was a long time ago
Sounded good on a
Delicate white-ribbon card
"One more big time rock and roll star"
Just what I need
As you walk away you know that I will call
If it's just to say goodnight and that is all
Well alright that's a lie she says she wanted you to stay
But you know much better than she
She's better off this way

my guesses for the other songs recorded during that time...(since i have demos for all these labeled as being from RAL)
Running Through The Garden
All The Beautiful Worlds (this was recorded for BD, WH and RAL right?)
I always thought ATBW was recorded specifically for TWH and Jimmy Iovine pulled it due to his personal involvement with Stevie. What a prick! That song rules the world and should have been on that album. I'll never forgive him!

i have demos of it labeled as Bella Donna, The Wild Heart and Rock A Little...but thats not my doing, just the way i got them and i am have never questioned it...but after just listening to the BD labeled demo it sounds WH era. so i have 2 WH era ATBW demos and a RAL era demo.

Rock A Little is the first Stevie solo album i bought that wasn't a greatest hits, it remains to this day one of my very favourite albums, just for it's diversity and changibility. Silva, the Rock A Little era photos are also my favourites, so dark and mysterious, especially the one in your sig!
And, yes, like you and Stevie both say, music sounds better on vinyl.
I also thought Stevie was screeching "Oh my god!" on "Talk To Me" ~ LOL!
Even though Stevie wrote "I Sing For The Things" in 1981, it certainly fit her Rock A Little timespace. Her voice is so heartbreaking, so breathy and dark... just love it!!!

Stevie gave an interview in September 1981 saying she had just written a song called "Rock A Little".
In her newsletter in November 1984, Ginny Kamano confirmed that Stevie wrote "Rock A Little" "in the Summer of 1981".
So, presumably, those piano & drums demos of "Rock A Little" are from 1981, since Stevie talks a lot in it about having the perfect chorus and trying for better verses.

Agreed with replacing Gate and Garden with ATBW. I find the sequence of If Anyone Falls - Gate and Garden - Enchanted to be totally and utterly boring. The songs from Nightbird to BATB all sequence wonderfully and are all fantastic in my eyes.
Replace Gate and Garden with ATBW, and TWH would be Stevie's best album. As it stands, after the fantastic opening, the first half of the album just drags.

RAL is definitely one of my favorites! I've had it in my car CD player for the past month now. My favorites off this record: "If I Were You", "No Spoken Word", and "Some Become Strangers". Stevie's vocals were CRAZY on this record and on the tour! I guess that's why I like it so much.

RAL....the last great stand of Stevie Nicks. I still can not believe how much Stevie could change so completely in such a short time frame. From the upbeat happiness of Bella Donna/ Wild Heart to the dark dangers during RAL to the dullness after '85. Oh, and rock on, Sister Honey!!!!!!
Well RAL was the last coke fueled album, after that everything changed.

It's funny - so many people seem to make a distinction between pre-RAL Stevie and post RAL Stevie but I've never done that. To me it's all the same baby, all the same. Sure drugs can impact one's level of creativity, physical abilities, etc. but it's still the same soul inside and that will never change! RAL will always be brilliant to me because it showed a side of Stevie no one had ever seen before (given it was a little rough around the edges) and a side that we will never see again. It's timeless. Not only for the music itself but for what it represents at that period in her life. GO AHEAD LILY, HIT IT!

So many different sounds and emotions... epic!
I can so relate to your RAL experience. I grew up with FM (my brother is 4 years older than me and he brought home Rumors) but I didn't become a Stevie fan until I heard "Talk to Me". I, too, bought the 45 and loved the song and the mysterious b-side. I remember being in Sam Goody one day and wanting to buy a new album but not knowing what to buy. I thought RAL MIGHT be a good choice since I liked Talk to Me. I remember I actually had to think about it for a while. It was a gamble since I hadn't heard any other songs off the album. As they say, the rest is history. I played RAL over and over and over. I was utterly entranced by Stevie's voice, her lyrics and most of all her mystery. RAL began it all for me and I am still utterly fascinated by this period in her life. Her RAL demos still give me chills. I didn't know anything about Joe Walsh or Robin or drug abuse when I first heard RAL, but I could feel all of it..and then some.

Stevie's voice probably changed the most during this era, And it might not have been so dramatically apparent if we had more released music in between what seemed like forever (83' through November 85') back in the stone ages before all things instant.
I like others, vividly recall the 1st time hearing "Talk To Me" on the radio. I was driving to high school one morning in october, and they announced it was coming up and I nearly drove off the road from excitement and was late to my 1st class waiting to listen to it. I also remember here in the Denver area, closer to the release of the record, they would play "No Spoken Word" as a teaser from the album and I was really intrigued and loved that song even more...Stevie's voice sounded so angry for the 1st time ever I believe, aside from the then unreleased mirage demo of Smile At You.
When RAL was finally released, I found Stevie's voice irresistible, fierce, sad & vulnerable, just like the music and demos of RAL. Little did we know it was a peek into watching her castles fall down, which became much more noticeable when she hit the road.
Go Ahead Lily...HIT IT!
Awesome time, incredible memories arise when I listen to this record.

Don't forget. The advanced "Radio" version of Talk To Me was a different vocal and instrumentation than the one we hear on the album, and all other "Greatest Hits" albums. It is hard to find but I think there are a couple "mixed" CD compilations that had this version out there.

"Love & War" is another "completed" song that I always thought was from this era. On listening to it again, though, it could perhaps be later than 1985 because her voice sounds more OSOTM or Timespace...
"At the Fair" sounds like a fairly advanced demo from the RAL sessions, but perhaps not complete.

Yeah.. "Love & War (Mix Down)" always sounded like it was circa 1990 to me... I think a number of circulated versions were sped up, so her voice sounded unusually high.

aaah yes!!!...the original version of TTM released to radio was a different version.
it wasnt on the air long before being pulled and remixed to the classic version we know today. i remember hearing parts of it, then it sounded different. i eventually got the "original" mix on a bootleg and realized i wasnt crazy after all. it was released in late summer if i recall, almost 2 months before the official single was released.

Though the correct lyrics are "a delicate white written card said OMBTRARS," I, like you, got it wrong and thought the words were, " a delicate white rythym guitar and we both were called OMBTRARS."
I always thought the lyrics were "on a delicate white ribbon carved..." The ribbon adorned the flowers he sent her.

Was this the version that was included on the Time/Life "Sounds Of The 80's: 1986" set? I was getting the whole series as it was being released and thought it was great to have another Stevie song on the set ("Sara", "Gypsy" and "Stand Back" were also included on other volumes) but was surprised to hear it was a different mix. I was going through my Rock America DVDs (a professional music video subscription series only made available to pro DJs, radio stations, music industry professional or entertainment venues), and I found a few Stevie/Fleetwood remix music videos, including a remixed version of "I Can't Wait." I ripped the video and re-encoded as an MKV. The audio remix is similar to one of the original "I Can't Wait" extended remixes and the video is re-edited to accommodate the length.
I thought she looked terrible in most of her "Talk to Me" close-ups, so I was thrilled when this video hit.

It's not a different mix, but an entirely separate, different version. Different vocals, different instruments, etc.
This Time/Life Sounds Of The Eighties version follows the lyrics for "Talk To Me" as printed in Rock A Little, with the "la la la la" during the saxophone solo, and the lyrics at the ending. Stevie's lead vocal is 100% different than the official release, not nearly as ragged and exciting.
I'm just guessing, but I think perhaps this version was too tame, so Stevie & Co. went back into the studio and re-recorded the song with more emotion and energy. Just a supposition, though.

Also, for some reason, in 1994, "Blue Denim" became a HUGE video hit in Dallas gay clubs, so they resurrected a LOT of Stevie's older videos, including "Gyspy", "Stand Back", "Seven Wonders" and this Rock America "I Can't Wait".

I believe in order to play this file type, you need to have DivX Plug-in/Player, which is available for free online.
If you do have this, and it is a file name issue, try renaming the file and adding the correct file extension (.MKV) If you aren't able to see file extensions (and you're using Windows), there's a way to change this. First, open up "My Computer" or any folder on your harddrive. In the toolbar at the top, click on "Tools" and then "Folder Options..." Click on the "View" tab in the new window, and then look for a check box labeled "Hide extensions for known file types"... uncheck this if it's checked. Now in any folder window, you should always see the file extensions, and can easily change them or rename them.
I hope this helps! :)

Most people who did not know the real title thought it was Will You Ever Win
My husband said that for the longest time when he heard Rhiannon he thought they were singing "Heeeeey man" instead of "Rhiaaaaaaaanon" in the chorus , as if that makes ANY sense in the context of the song. Oh well, he's a drummer, he doesn't listen that closely to lyrics.

I would love to hear a guitar based version of Mirror, Mirror. This is the 1st I've heard of its existence. I've never really cared for the pulsating synths, while Stevie got inspiration for them from the "Risky Business" subway love scene background music, It always reminds me of some news flash update intro. While I do love the song, the intensity...and the build up, I can see why this did not make the record. There is something not quite right about the production of the song overall. Maybe with some clever mixing and editing and the right producer, which makes me wonder if Jimmy had a hand in this one at all. I've always thought of it more of a prose piece set to music, with no real discernible melody, hook or direction.

That version is excellent, although very short, only 2:34, obviously much longer, but cut off by whoever leaked it. I'm pretty sure I hear Marilyn Martin's backing vocals on there, along with Sharon and multiple Stevies.

Been going over the original radio version...
It's the Time/Life Sounds Of The Eighties version, but definitely slower. The reason I don't like the SOTE version is it sounds too sped up. Now, we know ~ it is!
So, rather than just remixing the original single, Stevie went ahead and recorded another, completely different lead vocal for "Talk To Me", in addition to the instrumentation changes.
I still prefer the final Rock A Little version of "Talk To Me". Stevie is even more gravelly, with the best line in that version:
"Do I seem ALL THAT HARD?!?!"
Still, this is a wonderful piece of Stevie History! 25 Years!!!

Its nice to have the Time/Life 80's mix to change it up time to time, but the final version on RAL is far superior. Stevie's vocal on the verses in particular are top notch and gives me goosebumps, and the instrumentation is tougher and tighter, which give a fairly ordinary song a much needed belly punch. Stevie owns it on final version.

I like any version where she doesnt sing "Is it MALL that hard..." ha ha!!!
Also, can anyone post the extended version of Rock a Little again? Have to say that even after being a Stevie fan for almost 30 years I never even knew the extended version of this song existed until a few weeks ago!!
Thanks much!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, "She Loves Him Still" is one of the songs I haven't been aware of until I started surfing on this board. It really is incredible. By the way, is there a difference between "Battle of the Dragon" from the Timespace singles and the Enchanted version?

No, all those releases have the same 1991 remix of "Battle Of The Dragon" that Chris Lord-Alge did, even if they are not labeled. The 1986 original release mix is not as... crisp and intense, in my opinion.

Am I correct in assuming that Stevie considered "Battle" to be part of Timespace? Why else would CLA have remixed it at that time?
mikebise
12-28-2010, 07:51 AM
Yeah, Stevie had CL-A do remixes for "Sleeping Angel", "Battle Of The Dragon", "Blue Lamp" and "Violet And Blue" (the last two unreleased). Was it going to be a double disc? "Silver Springs" was, of course, also planned to be on TimeSpace. Start adding "Nightbird" and "After The Glitter Fades", and maybe it was going to be bigger.
Or maybe Stevie just had Chris remix a ton of songs for consideration.

You can tell that, in full quality, this would be fantastic like the other Lord-Alge remixes. Extra Stevie vamping at the end... extra flourishes of harmony vocals and guitar throughout...
It's a shame that this file is folded down to mono but it's likely the only quality that was ever made available by whoever leaked it. Hopefully someday the full stereo master will leak in a lossless format!
Thank you so much for sharing this with us, paleshadow. :)

Thanks for the information, Mike! TimeSpace was my first SN record and sometimes I program my own extended version adding Outside the Rain (live staple and quoted in the booklet), Battle of the Dragon, Gold & Braid and Blue Lamp to it. And thanks paleshadow for posting the V&B remix!

Best version of V&B I've ever heard, thanks! I can't stop listening to it. I honestly never liked this song and left it off all of my mixes but I listened to the demo a couple months ago and it grew on me!

I think it depends on where you listen to it. I found an LP of the American Anthem Soundtrack at a record fair for $1 and when you crank it up it sounds better than the version on Enchanted! Also the record has hardly been played so the sound is still very crisp and the echo is like nothing you've heard - like the day it was unwrapped! I love when i find Stevie bargains...
I LOVE BATTLE OF THE DRAGON!!!!
Oh and Paleshadow, Thanks so much for that VIolet and Blue it's pretty cool!!!

Mike: correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the RAL on the Enchanted box set was only the short version not the UK Extended version. Though it should've been the full version. Also the One More Big Time R & R Star on Enchanted really isn't the full version either. Why they didn't give us the completed version I'll not ever understand either. Its a shame that Blue Lamp and Violet & Blue in the remix form weren't fully released like you stated. What a shame. I would've loved to have had those versions too. I never knew they were to have been on TS thanks for the info!!:D

I find it very interesting that Stevie even considered cast-off's from her 1st three solo records worthy enough to be on her 1st "Best of "release when they obviously weren't deemed good enough to make the final cut the 1st time. Don't get me wrong, I love all of those songs and we all know some of her best outtakes never even saw the light of day. But to revive them on a greatest hits compilation? As it stands it was a real treat to have them all collected together on her box set. My one complaint is that she did not revive ALL of her B-sides to also include Mirror, Mirror, Real Tears and the Stevie produced 12' B-side version of The Nightmare.

Only "Talk To Me", "Battle of the Dragon", "If I Were You" and "Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You" are worth anything.
"One More Big Time Rock and Roll Star" comes close- but, otherwise- this whole album was a big mess. And Stevie really wrote none of it- which was why.

Did anyone get suckered by Wynnco into buying one of these "Rock A Little" wooden boxed sets that they still have the nerve to pass off out-of-print super-rare collectibles with an incredibly small run of 300 sets. Made in England. They left out that they manufactured these unauthorized boxed sets, not Warner.

I didn't get that particular item, but I did order a few things from them many years ago. I didn't know they were still in business! They were very expensive back then, but without the internet, there really weren't many other options. I remember how excited I would get when their catalogs would come in the mail!

There are still some who believe Wynnco couldn't possibly be as disreputable as some fans have more than suggested, because it is assumed that they would have crumbled under an avalanche of copyright infringement lawsuits, fraud, etc.
Well, they were sued by Corbis, which is a big, multi-faceted company that makes money from licensing images to publishers, advertising agencies, etc. Wynnco was reproducing images and posters, etc and passing them off as the real deal or using them to create their own package design, etc. That's the only big one that I'm aware of. I'm sure they received plenty of cease & desist letters.
They used to sell the Bella Donna and Rock a Little wooden boxed sets for hundreds of dollars each, but now they're only $100 bucks each. They claim the sets were made in England, as if England is Kryptonite to bootlegs, and incredibly rare even though they are the only entity to ever sell them.
The record companies are so overwhelmed internationally chasing down huge operations, that they don't have time to waste pursuing smaller offenders such as Wynnco, who I don't believe copied discs or tapes, etc.

Wynnco sold lots of bootleg concerts of Stevie & FM on cassette. And video. I bought my first crappy quality VHS of Stevie's 1983 Us Fest concert from them.
I did give them hundreds of dollars in 1988-1990 to get Westwood One vinyl concerts of the Rock A Little, Tango, and The Other Side Of The Mirror tours. Back then, it was the only way to get pristine copies of Stevie's concerts, rather than copied-too-many-times cassettes. I even paid Wynnco $350 for the 12-disc (15??) of the 1983 Us Fest concert from Westwood One for THREE songs by Stevie! Two of which had the re-sung vocals!!! (Never listened to the rest of the records, except for Missing Persons).
But, hey, those 3 songs are part of the handful of live songs we have from 1983...
Oh, and Wynnco had all those horrible Christian newsletters in all their shipments.

I bought my Westwood One vinyl LPs via ads in Goldmine magazine back in the day. As a subscriber I was able to get my copy in the mail about a week before it hit newsstands, so my routine was to literally devour every issue, cover-to-cover, the second I walked in the door- before these items were sold out. I don't think I paid more than $60 per show. Oh, those were the days... simpler... but oh so frustrating too!

here's a high quality version of the original Talk To Me. I got it off some free compilation that was on a giveaway CD for some party for Atlantic records years ago. sounds great. enjoy!
p.s. love the la-la's that are in the sax solo (and they were in the lyric sheet too on the RAL album!)

I don't think I paid more than $60 per show. Oh, those were the days... simpler... but oh so frustrating too!Yeah, when I first started collecting records etc Stevie/Mac/Eagles/Henley stuff I did get alot of stuff from Wynnco and Goldmine too. GM had alot of great finds and you could get them cheaper than the ever overpriced stuff at Wynnco. If you check out Wynncos web site there still overpriced on Stevie stuff even though prices have went down alot esp when you check ebay. Its funny cause when I first got 'on line' thats one of the reasons I wanted to get online was to check out Wynncos web site since they weren't gonna do the paper catalogs anymore. Funny though after I found ebay I forgot all about them. Of course not that back in the 02-I'd say at least til maybe 06 or 07 Stevie /Mac stuff was high but of late (which we have discussed here before) prices for memoribila on Stevie and Mac have dipped as well as others I'm sure. The demand just isn't there as well as the economy probably hasn't helped alot . Plus I just don't think collectors are selling there 'rare' items anymore?? At least I don't see much rare stuff up at all. I recall Wynnco's boot cds were just outragous as well as there radio shows.(Wynnco was also high priced on there posters/promo jackets etc....) After I read GM well I still bought from Wynnco but probably a lot less in the later 90's than the late 80's/early 90's or so. I looked for bargins instead of those inflatted prices. Plus if I'd seen some of the stuff I was buying I probably would've bought it back than either. I also used to buy from this Samuel Ketenjian guy in CA too. He could be high priced as well. I talked to him alot. He seemed nice enough but some stuff was high too. Any other stories some long time collectors have out there as well??? Would love to hear it. I did end up getting GM on subcription too. Sad it like a shell of its former larger self but I guess the Net has done that to many magazines but I still like reading mags and books etc. I like something in my hands still and not always a computer either. :D ps : I agree about the frustrating part of GM too. Sometimes calling some places or people with ads. I wanted this Timespace standup so badly back when I saw it once in GM than I saw it again. I was thinking should I really spend the $$ since it was like$ 100.00 than I decided to call them and of course it was sold already. They actually just sold it before I called. I was bummed out. (the standup is very large. Its the front cover to TS /Stevies face with the blue shawl. I think its the UK standup not US and it was like 40 x60 or something. I did see it on ebay once too but to pay for it was a pain cause the person didn't take paypal either nor did they want a check or a money order) and it was from the UK.) I know who won it too but they don't want to sell it. Still on the hunt. Thats one story I do recall.
