If Christine didn't put forth such damn good songs, Lindsey would be the winner on Tango. Caroline and Tango in the Night are amazing songs. Big Love is good, but I do like the full band version better. Family Man is also a very good song to me, as is You and I part II. Just like Mirage though, some of the demos are far better than what made the cut.

I vote for Tango. It just has that masterpiece quality to it. The vocals, the singing, the crazy percussion, the signature John McVie, Christine's synths.. the oooo oooo oooo's by LB and CM...
Having said that.. I know a lot of people hate Family Man.. but the guitar solo and the carribean sort of feel makes me feel all warm inside when I listen to it...

I don't think I could name a single song on Tango that I don't like. Each song adds to the deliciously atmospheric and intricate album, that I feel sounds its best when listened to in a relaxing and darkened room. Lindsey's songs are definitely my favourites however, because they add a much needed sharpness to the somewhat smooth procession of the songs which is helped along by the soft and silky temper of Chris' vocals.

Lindsey's Song's
Big Love- Love this. In fact I love this much more then the acoustic version. I love the urgency of it. I love him dueting with himself on the ooh-aah's love the whole thing.
Caroline- Love this song musically. so hot. lol. The lyrics suck though. Stagey lazy, cagey. whatever it is.
Tango in the Night- Words cannot express my love for this. I must repeat this song like six times a day no joke. Only gripe is that it ends when Lindsey's into that great solo.
Family man- yea........next:rolleyes:
You and I, Part 2- I noticed a lot of lukewarm responses to this. Not me. I love it. Makes me happy. I know i've stated my opinion of this song before. but.....screw it:thumbsup:

Tango is a wonderful album in my opinion. But everyone had a hit and miss. For me, Lindsey's is Family Man. I've come close to deleting it off my iPod because it comes on way too often when I have my iPod set to shuffle and I can't really change it because I'm barreling down the highway at 120 km/h.
His best TITN song is Caroline. First time I heard it, I played it 20 times in a row. It's just so damn catchy and I love how he sings it, to me it's kinda ultra sexy.

Big Love: I used to not like this as much as the acoustic, but it definitely grew on me. Definitely. DEFINITELY.
Caroline: I dig the beats, it makes me feel like I'm in the jungle, especially with the ooo-ing at the beginning.
Tango In The Night: I DIG IT ALL. Especially Lindsey's solo at the end, it just rocks.
Family Man: I could take it or leave it, but I am a sucker for salsa type songs. And that acoustic solo makes me so happy inside.
You And I (Part II): Again, the salsa factor. It's a very cheery song, I played it a ton before I left home for college.
This is such a hard one to judge, I love this whole album, especially Lindsey and Christine's songs! Family Man is the weakest for me, though I still like it...I remember first hearing it and being like "Hmmm...interesting..."

At first, I didn't care for these songs, but over time, they're actually grown on me.
1. Big Love- The studio version is fun and hilariously 80's, but the acoustic one rocks too
2. Caroline- It's cool musically, but the lyrics are unintentionally funny in many ways
3. Tango in the Night- Like everyone else said, sweet solo! Even my dad, who's a Machead too and doesn't really care fot TITN, digs this song
4. Family Man- Next song, please
5. You and I Part II- Musically, i don't really care for it, but I've come to appreciate it more lyrically when I heard that, in many ways, it hints at Lindsey's leaving the band, sort of how the album's former title, The Last Tango, hints at that too

Lindsey's never really been that great of lyricist, so I don't even really factor that in.
Big Love - Like it...prob my fave of his on the album
Caroline - ok...good, not great...never been a fan of electronic (sounding) drums...don't know how much of the drumming(?) on this IS Mick or if this was just pulled directly from what was to be Lindsey's solo album.
Tango In The Night - Another "ok" song...cheezy way out by tacking on the "I'm So Afraid" guitar solo.
Family Man - The Latin beat & the nylon string acoustic guitar solos make this for me...yeah, the lyrics are cheezy, but so?
You & I, Part II - Thanks to Stevie's BAD songs on the album, they keep this from being the worst song on the album. Should've just written Christmas themed lyrics and they'd have a good song for the holidays. "You & I, Part I" is far superior (well, it's basically a whole different song)
It wasn't until Lindsey finally released Out Of The Cradle that it was pretty obvious that he'd kept the direction of his solo album intact for those 5 years from the time TitN was finished and OotC was done. You can almost see which songs from OotC he had to rewrite to replace the songs that were used here.
Big Love - Doing What I Can
Caroline & Tango In The Night - This Is The Time
Family Man - Surrender The Rain
You & I, Part II - Soul Drifter

Big Love-very good song in 1987 and has stood the test of time.
Caroline-My favorite Lindsey track on this album.
Tango in the Night-excellent song but I wish I'm So Afraid was not tacked on to the end.
Family Man-I always really liked this song. I love when he sings, "mother, father, brother," and his backup vocal says, "mo ther fa ther mo ther fa ther."
You and I Part II-this song totally sucks. I skip it everytime.

I like it too. It's a fun little song to go out on, even if it's ever so slightly less atmospheric than the rest of the album. It's still worthy of its place. Actually, it was probably the first song on the album that I memorised lyrically because it's so catchy.

1. Big Love: A true Mac classic... what else is there to say?
2. Caroline: Probably my fav Lindsey track on the album.
3. Tango in the Night: Probably my fav Lindsey guitar solo of his Mac tenure. I'd LOVE to hear this one live... it would ROCK!
4. Family Man: I don't care what anyone says... this one is just plain fun '80s goodness!
5. You and I Part II: I still greatly wish You And I Part I would have made the album instead of this one... but it's still not a bad closer!

Big Love is a good tune. It's just a solo tune. I honestly don't think any other band member is playing on it. Think of how great it'd have been had there been Mick's drumming, and Christine-Stevie harmonies on it.
Caroline and Tango--both good songs, very muscular, but I doubt I'd listen to them if there weren't a bunch of other songs on Tango that drew me in.
Family Man--I like it a lot. I know some people hate the words. I don't mind them. But for me it's the (flamenco?) guitar. Sort of recalls Welch's guitar work on the studio version of Bermuda Triangle. Instrumentally, this is a great tune. Also love the Stevie (am what I am what I am what I am...)
You and I Part II. I like this song a lot. Very catchy. I also loved Christine's version of it, too, and it's hard for me to pick one over the other.
You and I Part I should have been on the record.

I'd say Tango is my favorite. It's a hot song and you throw it together with the tropical album cover scene and it sets a steamy mood for the entire album.
If I'd heard it in concert hundreds of times like I have Big Love (and Chili don't say that I have heard it in concert already), it probably wouldn't move me the same way it still does. The fact that I "miss" it and the excitement it inspired upon first listen, makes me appreciate it more.

"Tango" is my favorite of track of his here, and is pretty close to being my favorite on the album. I really like "Caroline," too. Yes, the lyrics are lazy (or stagey  ) but I love the energy and vibe of the song. "Family Man" is okay. Don't love it, don't hate it.

True, but I think he's shown marked improvement. His lyrics on SYW, UTS, and GOS are the strongest of his career.

lol i was gonna say!
Now, this is a tough album for me Lindsey-wise. I like all five songs a lot. But none are favorites. I know people who swear by ... get ready ... FAMILY MAN. I know people for whom that is their favorite Lindsey song. (granted these aren't mac experts) ... and they love the lyrics. But really, I think as a work of production and and guitar playing, it's probably the most superlative creation on the album (kinda like the Dylan cover that didn't make Say You Will).
So if I HAD to choose, i think i'd go Family Man. ... or ... Big Love ... or Caroline ... or TITN ... or You and I Part II

Even in the early days I think Lindsey had some outstanding, and unique, lyrics. I am haunted by some of those lines (dusty fury on a mountaintop, fate takes time, etc.). Just not on a consistent basis. It's not something he tended to put a lot of time into. Then, as you said, with SYW he seemed to concentrate more on it and I think the lyrics on UTS and GOS were outstanding, as you said.

Tango In the Night is the album where I became a Fleetwood mac fan. I was a fan of Lindsey since Go Insane, but didn't realize he was in a band. This album will always be the most important Fleetwood mac album to me.
I love all of Lindsey's songs on TITN. Yes, the lyrics for 'Family Man' could have been better, but it still has great music in it. I wish 'Down Endless Street' and 'You and I, Part 1' could have been on the album, as well!

I find this most fascinating. I mean, didn't you wonder who in the world this Lindsey character was and where he originated from? Or did you just know his music but had no interest in his personal life? What gives?

No, I remember the same thing happening to a friend of mine who liked Trouble and bought Law and Order and she didn't know where Lindsey came from. She just thought he was a new solo artist. One of those pin up singers. So, we were watching Casey Kasem and Kasem was talking about both Stevie and Lindsey that week and he mentioned they were from Fleetwood Mac. That's the first time she knew Lindsey was a member of Fleetwood Mac. I was like, "well have you heard GYOW. Who do you think . . ."
But I can't talk, because before 1979, even though I'd heard the songs on the radio, I had no concept of who Fleetwood Mac was and I never thought that the people who did Dreams were the same people who did Say You Love Me. It wasn't until I liked Sara and bought the Tusk album that I began to wonder what else these strange folks had done. Then the pieces fell into place.

This is one of things I love about the Mac, such diverse material on one record, different writers/vocalists but all in the same band, known as Fleetwood Mac. This setup really is so unique and is what pulled me into FM fandom. :D

I think LB's approach to production on Tango is reminiscent of that episode of Frasier where Frasier has to write a new jingle to introduce his show and he ends up with a forty-piece orchestra etc.
Niles: 'Frasier, have you never heard the expression "Less is more"?'
Frasier: 'Ah yes, but if less is more, then just think how much more more would be ...'
Saying all that, I like the title track. A bit.

Has anyone here ever heard the song "Where The Whales Have Ceased To Sing" by the Swedish singer Josefin Nilsson? The song was written by Benny Andersson & Björn Ulvaeus (formerly of ABBA) for an album they produced and wrote for Nilsson in 1993. If you're not an ABBA fan or aren't Swedish, you probably haven't heard it... but the song always reminded me of "Tango In The Night". It's not quite as haunting or dynamic in the verse sections, but the song builds to a crescendo in a similar way to "Tango...". The guitar soloist on the song was ABBA's longtime guitar soloist... and there isn't a blistering solo like Lindsey would contribute, but it ends the song nicely in the fadeout. The drums in the fadeout always sounded a bit Mick Fleetwood-ish to me as well for some reason....
If anyone's curious, here it is:

1. Caroline - used to blast this one in college out the windows. Sounded amazing.
2. Tango in the Night
3. Big Love
4. You and I, Part II
5. Family Man - I think this is in my 5 worst FM songs. Never remotely liked it.

I was only 9 and I had recently seen the vid for 'Go Insane'. We were at my uncle's house in South Carolina and it was the first time I could watch MTV a lot. We didn't have cable at home. I just thought of Lindsey as a solo artist. It was the first time I'd heard of him. I was reasonably young and we had moved 3 times, to 3 different states in about 4 months (long story). I had a lot going on, so I just wasn't thinking along the lines of Lindsey's personal life. I can just say that from the first time I saw Lindsey, I knew he'd always be my favorite. I felt something I couldn't explain.
