Stevie Nicks Survivor! - TISL survival of the songs

[TerraRhiannon]

Heyy, I found a game on another fan forum somewhere and thought it would be fun to try it here.

Basically there is a list of the songs from Trouble in Shangri-La, and you add a point for the song you like the most, and subtract a point from the song you like the least. Eventually when a song gets down to 0, it will be deleted. Which ever one has the most at the end wins! ~Vote once a day :)

This could be a long game so instead of starting with 10 each, I'll start every song with 5.

1. Trouble in Shangri-La - 5
2. Candlebright - 5
3. Sorcerer - 5
4. Planets of the Universe - 5
5. Every Day - 5
6. Too Far From Texas - 5
7. That Made Me Stronger - 5
8. It's Only Love - 5
9. Love Changes - 5
10.I Miss You - 5
11. Bombay Sapphires - 5
12. Fall From Grace - 5
13. Love Is - 5

It's really difficult now. I like all these songs. I just went with the one with the smallest number :(

I'd totally forgot just how good TISL is.

[mitzo]

Trouble in Shangri La 7
Candlebright 5
Sorcerer 2
Planets of the Universe 6
Everyday 1
It's Only Love 1
Love Changes 6
I Miss You 9
Bombay Sapphires 2
Fall from Grace 5
Love Is 10+

[sorcerer999]

I don't think Mitzo understands how this game is played. I have no idea what that last post is about...so I'm starting after Artemis' last post.

I know, that's what I was hoping the next person would do.. go by Artemis' post.

And to Mitzo: The object of the game is to see what is the favorite song on TISL, so I started each song with 5 points, and first person took one point away from their least favorite song, and gave their favorite song one point. And then the next person goes by the previous post. :) It's explained out in my first post if that would be easier to understand:)

Sorry, disregard my post above, as you did. I thought I was to arrange the songs by preference above or below the baseline of 5 - so I put my faves at points above 5, and my dislikes below 5. Anyway, carry on, and my apologies again. I hope this post doesn't distract even more...

This is just my opinion, so don't stone me...but I just don't see why "Planets Of The Universe" is so high on this list. I like it a lot, but I don't think it's the best of the best on this album. In fact it kind of pales in comparison to the demo version, and even the outtake from the Rumours sessions is way better. I don't know. I guess I'm just perplexed as to why this song is so high on this list, whilst "Sorcerer", "Bombay Sapphire" and "Candlebright" are gone. I guess it's just a matter of opinion. LOL! I'll shut up now! ;)

I have to agree, and the only thing that makes me like the modern version of POTU is how great the piano demo is. It is a very good song, but there are others that are much better, especially Bombay Sapphires and Sorcerer.

[LittleCharmer]

With regards to POTU, I adore the piano demo, but I think it translated really well into an album track. I love the production of the TISL version, and the instrumentation; the new melodies she's layered in there, especially the little guitar riff that floats over the chorus and the guitar solo which comes at the end.

Hence:

You have to minus 1 and add 1 sure they'll be difference in opinion but you can't say one song should be in there over another when thats just your opinion. Bombay Sapphires?? I really don't feel that song

LOL! I'll shut up now! ;)

None of the remaining songs are as good as Candlebright, so I kinda agree with you. Also, as much as I like the song Trouble in Shangri La, I can't help but think of OJ Simpson every time I hear it, and that's kind of a turnoff.

Why don't people like Bombay Sapphires more? It's always been one of my favorite Stevie songs ever written by Stevie and definitely one of the best on this album. It's not very common that I adore a Stevie song so few people have love for :(. I'm sure there are a lot of fans out there that do love it like I do but more people dislike it I would say.

It's so sexy, rhythmic, R&B-ish, and the lyrics with the imagery have Stevie written all over them. I admit you can't hear Macy Gray all that well but who cares, it's Stevie's song. Oh that little guitar riff and the lines "I can take you higher...whatever you desire I can mend your heart". It's like she's saying "come hither" like a seductress.

Just saying for all of those who aren't big fans, give it another chance just for me .

I love Bombay Sapphires. I can't comprehend why Stevie doesn't put it in her setlists; it's a great opportunity for an intimate moment with the audience - just Stevie and some guitar, one spotlight flooding her in blue light.

I do love the song. However, I could live without the "It is green, it is aquamarine" verse.

* I would be voting for Love Is except that the demo is FAR superior to the released version. Hands down though the Love Is demo is the best thing that came out of the TISL sessions IMO.

Best vocal to not make the album! What were they thinking? :distress:

Wooah, just listened to the Love Is piano demo for the first time - why they didn't include that vocal is... simply beyond me - her voice sounds incredible.

Love Bombay Sapphires:p, it is probably in my Top 5 of all the TISL songs, and I find myself listening to that song over others 10 years later since it's release.

But TISL is the best song IMO on the whole record and a stand out in all of Stevie's solo catalogue ...That song, POTU or Fall From Grace always seems to win these TISL contests pretty consistently.

My biggest disappointment with this album was the vocals. I had such high hopes after hearing "The Dance" vocals. I don't know what happened.

I love the album version of "Love Is," the piano demo is OK but I think working with Sarah Mclachlin brought out good things.

I agree. It's the lyrics. It's musically really good. However, the lyrics are a big turn off. IT'S TOO FAR OUT THERE. She should of changed them.

[Jondalar]

Man this album is an enigma to me. I really enjoy a lot of the tracks, but somehow it just doesn't all fit together. I will remember this album as a good try. I think she should be really proud of Planets and Trouble in Shangri La. I think those songs are good adds to her collection. I think Candlebright is actually my favorite song, but to me, Crow ruined it with the Mandoline. Fall from Grace is nice song, but its so quick you can't keep up with the lyrics. It's hard for me to embrace Sorceror after hearing Marilyn Martin's version. Everyday is fine song but too small. Same with it's only Love. Love Is is totally bland to me. I love Bombay Sapphires for it's moodyness, but it's just too weird lyrically. Too Far from Texas is a really good song, but she threw away the vocal. Hate the lyrics to That Made Me Stronger and the music too.

I just can't embrace this album the way some of you have. I think there too many hands in the jar. The album didn't flow like it should. It sounded disjointed.
