Stevie says she wrote "Whole Lotta Trouble" in February 1986. On my Rock A Little November 1984 thread, I detailed some of the history of the song as reported in Stevie fanzines of 1986-1987. I've had poor sound qualities of this version for many years (as I'm sure everyone else does, too) and just found this much better one the other day.

Stevie's voice is very 1986 with some great overdubs near the end. The music is very full and polished, but I'm not a great musical detective when it comes to instruments and who plays them (only Stevie's voice!). Stevie's voice is similar to other songs she recorded in 1986, like "Seven Wonders", "What Has Rock And Roll Ever Done For You?", "Joan Of Arc", "Juliet" and others.
Hope this is an upgrade for some of you like it is for me!

With mediafire itself? I did several times in the last two weeks.

I noticed the url changes the longer it is on that site. Above is the initial url when I first open it, but it changes to what I posted above.

Thanks Mike. Is there any way you can convert it to an mp3 before you upload to mediafire? Right now it's over 50 mb.

No, Lindsey, sorry. I had to convert it through Audacity, which kept it as a wav file. Jeff said that was the best way to be lossless. Also, I can't figure out how to change it and get it on my hard drive without Audacity. I am totally clueless, technology-wise. Audacity is simple and easy for me.
The giant wav size is why it takes me so long to upload. I'm sorry.

No worries. This is why I bought an external hard drive 6 months ago but have yet to set it up and transfer my music.

Was this worthwhile to anyone? My links still work; is it DL-ing okay?
Upgrade/new for anyone?

Thank you, Mike, for saying that, and also for converting it for others who just want it in mp3.
Yeah, I had the single vocal only for years in crappy quality. I imported this from a CD, so it must've been one of Maureen's CDs, or else the Masters. I did edit off a LOUD feedback screech from the beginning, which makes me think I edited it out of one of the Masters chunks.
My original Masters CDs are stored in safety (with duplicates made!), or else I'd check them right now. This "Whole Lotta Trouble" could have been buried in some studio mess. I did my editing from September-December 2009.

This is the link for the outtake of "Whole Lotta Trouble" from The Other Side Of The Mirror. Stevie's main vocal is completely different from the album version. There are backing vocals, but no wild overdubs like on the 1986 version.
I think it's pretty cool, especially since "Whole Lotta Trouble" is one of Stevie's songs in which there are very few alternate versions, as opposed to, say, "How Still My Love" or "If You Were My Love", where there are many outtakes and demos of them.
51 people have downloaded the 1986 version so far, so I guess the link is working okay?
Edit: Try this one:

WHY does mediafire have different urls for the same page? (I also added it to the initial post).
And, YES, if you find that piano demo of "Whole Lotta Trouble", PLEASE post it! Despite the sound quality, I count it as a part of Stevie history, and I'm a Stevie historian!!

Wonderful, Lindsay!!! Did you download both versions? (And, yes, re-post as mp3, of course!)
I really like the polished album version of "Whole Lotta Trouble", too, but that Rock A Little tour-era version is just incredible!!!!

See? That's exactly how I felt the other day when I went through my iTunes and discovered this unclassified "Whole Lotta Trouble" that I had imported quite awhile back, but never wrote a description of. Imagine my shock at finding this 1986 GOLD!!!

Hey Mike!
Thanks for sharing this; an excellent find... I hadn't heard this one before either! I took a stab at trying to enhance the audio quality a bit. Take a listen and hopefully you'll think so too! I played with the left, right and center channels of the audio, faded out the end and used mild noise reduction.

I actually got that version sometime on cassette tape from this guy named David Kyle in Indiana...in like '91 or '92....I had always thought it was awesome than....I did like it better than the Mirror version. I hadn't realized that it was from 86. Its a great version....Thanks for sharing....

Good God. This is embarrassing swill.
All it shows is that she added nonsense well well lyrics in the blank spots, and that the only remotely interesting part of the song was the chord at the beginning of the bridge. A bridge she started but never even bothered to finish.
At best, this was a below average amateur blues song. At worst, it was Stevie lacking material on a record and a good blues group down the hall who was working on someone else's dime. Shameful and humiliating. Who the hell knows the guys who played on this version?
Doesn't matter. This has the Klonopin trademark all over it.
Trash bin.
As a PS I will add that the make up artist on the video did a commendable job on the suggestion of skinny Stevie cheekbones.

Was this worthwhile to anyone? I'm listening to this now. It's very interesting. Really takes you back to that point when she's hanging around with the Dylan tour, writing with Mike Campbell, & tearing it up onstage Down Under. Thanks, Mike!
The song itself--jeez, it's so crappy. Stevie & Mike did some excellent stuff over the years, like "Imperial Hotel," but "Whole Lotta Trouble" practically defines plodding & leaden. They must have both been high.

I have to agree. This song blows - all versions. :distress: Thanks for posting it, but I don't really hear anything thrilling and/or new.
