I don't know if I've seen this particular version before. Stevie doesn't really do the typical vocal acrobatics here that Sisters was known for. It just begs the question of why Stevie permanently put this one to rest. It seems like her modern voice could pull off a performance of this ilk. Why does everyone think she no longer performs Sisters?
I have to wonder if it's because she relates the song to her drug fueled past, and wants to keep all that in her rear view mirror. I used to think it was because she was afraid she could no longer pull off this song vocally... but I'm not sure if I believe that to be the reasoning anymore.

Compare this version to the Mirage Tour one we all know… This song needs the “vocal acrobatics” you talked about, the passion… And I’m afraid she’s not able to do that anymore (hey, the girl is 62), and maybe that’s the reason Sisters is out… forever. And yes, I miss Sisters too, and Angel, and...

I think she can still pull it off vocally, but for some reason she likes to hold herself back on stage. So I think it is just a matter of her not wanting to try that hard :[

Stevie's said that she's always suffered from some serious stage fright, so maybe she can't do those wild and crazy performances as unselfconsciously as she used to because she doesn't have the powdered/liquid courage backing her up. Or as Louie's suggested, she tries to stay as far away from the person she used to be, and untamed and deranged performances were staples of her druggie days.
Perhaps she's assuming the wild performances are one of the reasons critics used to relentlessly mock her, and she's actually getting respect from them now that she doesn't do that anymore. Or maybe menopause and getting older have hit her really hard, and she just doesn't have half the energy she used to have or even the ability to move around like she used to do. Or, like you've suggested, she's just lazy and is doing the least amount of work for the most amount of money.
Maybe it's a combination of the above, or maybe it's none of these things at all. We'd have to ask Stevie.

I can totally see them doing this live nowadays. This particular version, I mean. With very little movement and a nice little guitar solo from Lindsey.
It's not the most exciting thing to watch, but it would be nice to see live..

well, she does gold dust woman and that's about drugs.
and she does rhiannon, and we all know that's better when she does the rippin' vocals, so who knows. the reception of SOTM always seemed to be pretty good (even without the vamped up crowd cheering) so i'm not sure why. it seems she only does one tusk song per "era" of tours which is interesting/sad considering most people believe tusk songs to be her best work ever.

I think it was the only group song (from that configuration) that was only ever an encore.
It might have been pretty darn cool to use it as an encore on the Wild Heart tour, but she never used it at all solo. As for doing it now, I don't know. that would be weird--it seems like such a relic, such an artifact of a long-gone time & place.
It would be odd. That song isn't the vibe that Fleetwood Mac gives off anymore, is it?

I thought you meant "Sisters" as in Bobbye Hall lol. She was such a fun addition to Stevie's tours in the 80's. I say bring her back!

Bobbye? You mean 'Sistah'
petep9000

..and bring back Aliscia Wright too, and REALLY have a sistah party. It would be like 'Waiting To Exhale', sitting around drinking margaritas, braiding each other's hair and talking about how their no-good, down-low men always let them down.

How about instead of Sisters of the Moon, Stevie sings Sistah Honey? Admit it. It'd be awesome in all of it's cheesy 80s glory.

So does Rhiannon, but that sure doesn't stop her from murdering it during every single show for decades! :p Modern Rhiannon is so, sooo bad. I can't hear it without wincing. :distress:
Who knows, with Stevie pulling out a different Tusk song with each successive Mac tour this past decade, Sisters may be in line. I just hope Angel isn't in that line... it was boring back then, and would be super awful now!

I'd like to hear 'Angel' actually, as long as they do it uptempo (like from the 'Tusk' tour) and not plodding like the album version.
Stevie should just do a 'Tusk' medley, 'Sara', SOTM, 'Angel', BC and 'Storms'; string them all together but as a medley (like Diana Ross used to do with her old Supremes stuff) and only sing the important parts like the first verse and chorus and whatever 'hook' the song is famous for.

I too, am a huge fan of "Angel" - my favorite being the live version she did on the Bella Donna tour with the great lead piano and the break down in the middle where it's just the girls singing to the drumbeat ("and to those that I love like a ghost through a fog...")
I think Stevie could totally pull this version off again! It's so much fun!

of course she could! Angel doesn't require much vocal energy, and that's where Stevie's at now.

Medlies just whet my appetite for more. Whenever someone does them, I feel cheated.
I would love to have Angel back in the FM lineup though. Michele

Maybe it's that SN knows she took 'Sisters' to a rather supernatural level of excellence on the 'Mirage' tour, and never can top it, so that's why she 'hit delete' on the song. She also may have had a very sore throat the next day with some vocal chord damage on the 'tongue speaking' ending that hurts her to even think about, now.
It may be that she decided with the exorcism of the song complete, why revisit it. She has to know it was one of her very best performances, and I think she did all she can with the song. Not that I wouldn't love to hear her do it again, but I think it's just a completed piece, for her.
I like the link you posted, had never seen that version, ever. Sure, she could perform it in similar fashion to that clip now.
But like someone else wrote, the song needed the fireworks she gave it in '82, she really blew the roof off the Forum with it.

Also, what about the rest of the band? I thought it was weak because it was disspirited & sloppy.

I don't remember that happening at the Forum. I remember hundreds of people leaving.
Not the night I was there, I think I went on the second night but don't recall, exactly. The arena shook the ovation for SOTM was so huge. I remember (at 18 and new to LA) thinking it was an earthquake; the rattle was so intense, up in the bad seats. Pretty sure that everyone stayed that night! Apart from SOTM, there was 'Songbird' to stick around for. It was the greatest concert I ever saw FM perform, if it wasn't the same for you, that happens. I was totally blown away.
This reminds me of one of my first threads I wrote in, many years ago. I wrote about the 'Peace Sunday' concert, and I got the city it was held in wrong. I did write how thrilling it was (to me!) that she opened her set with 'Edge of 17'-- to be told it never happened; that she opened with 'Sara' by a 'David' of thousands of informed posts- maybe not the same David as this time, it doesn't matter. Both or one and the same should write as they wish. The original D told me I was having an incorrect memory and wrote 'am I being trolled?' for questioning his assurance that she opened with 'Sara'.
That was my welcome to The Ledge, baby! I had admired his writing and thought 'well, he has to be right'....
I gave in and wrote 'well I must be wrong, then' and mourned I had such an incorrect memory of my young LA life some years later while in my 30's.
Turns out he was incorrect, and I was right with my meager 4 postings to his zillions. This year, I found and shared in the Nicks forum a complete set list of everyone's performances at 'PS'-- and she sure as hell did open with 'Edge' and not with 'Sara'.
Had hundreds of people walked out on SOTM at The Forum, I would've noticed, though it could have happened on the other night I didn't attend. 'Oakland '82' is a somewhat close 2nd best SOTM for me. At the Forum show I saw, the playing and vocals made for the best version of 'The Chain' in the history of the world! I thought the musicianship and vocals that night were beyond amazing.
But that doesn't mean someone else can't think otherwise!

Sisters live have always been a favourite for me ^^ it's like all magical and amazing. Stevie's voice and everything. As in the Mirage tour version, love it! And not to mention the tusk tour version. When the audience goes wild...omg, so awesome! <3 I would love to see them do Sisters now, think it would be totally amazing..

I'm glad it was dropped. I'm guessing Stevie didn't want to do it solo - or couldn't find a good fit for it in the solo set since she didn't do it in 81 or 83. If she didn't do it in 83, she sure wasn't going to do it in 86.
Once Fleetwood Mac came back in 87 - I suspect that's the best chance we would have gotten to hear it again. But it would have kinda sucked at this point and would have never sounded better than it had during the Tusk and Mirage eras.

I hate to say this and I know it's totally far-fetched but maybe she's saving it for her farewell song or last performance with The Mac or maybe there's simply no good reason at all - she just hasn't felt like performing it for the last 20 years and when she wants (if she ever does) she'll perform it again. Or maybe she's saving it for the next FM tour as you know how she's been pulling em' out of the archives for the last couple of tours (Sara, Storms).
We can hypothesize that there is some deep seeded issue she has going on with the song or that she doesn't think she can handle it vocally but maybe it's something much simpler than that as I mentioned above.
