Beautiful Child. I love this song. Stunning. Chokes me up sometimes.

Storms and Sisters of the Moon

You really can't go wrong with any of them though. Stevie was pure perfection on Tusk.

Beautiful Child and Sara, the two songs every artist should aspire to equal in their career.

Beautiful Child and Sisters of the Moon, both are perfection.

I totally expect Sara to walk this though.

Oh gosh, this is like trying to chose between my children! I don't know if I can single out any one of these tunes as being superior to the other... they're all masterpieces crafted at Stevie's absolute height. All of these songs have spoken to me at different times in my life, and they've all shuffled around being my favorite. They're all wonderful in their own ways, for varying reasons.

Beautiful Child might eek out an edge because it's the perfect triumvirate: beautiful lyrics, gorgeous vocals, & sublime instrumentals. Add to the fact it translates to the stage just as effectively as the studio, and we might just have a winner. For instance, I think Storms is probably the best songwriting of the lot, but it didn't translate to stage as well. Sisters of the Moon was a powerhouse on stage, but with age, I find the lyrics to be a bit trite in spots. So there we go... I guess Beautiful Child it must be... but it wins solely by a thread! :D

I voted for Beautiful Child and Storms. They hold more resonance with me.

Oy vey! Why'd you have to make it 2 choices?! Anyways, I gave it to Storms and Sisters of the Moon.

It is harder to vote for two songs than it is to vote for one song! Sara and Beautiful Child snatched my vote. Every time I hear these beauties, I'm floored.

Nothin' on the entire album (by any of the writers) tops "Sisters Of The Moon", for me.

Really.

I'm not kidding.

No, you're not reading it wrong.....chiliD's fave song on Tusk really IS a Stevie Nicks song. Why is that so hard to imagine??

Storms is the best song she's ever written, IMO, so that was the easy first choice.

After much debate, I went with Sisters of the Moon over Beautiful Child.

Not easy by any means cause I really like all of Stevie songs off Tusk. I picked: Sara and Angel. I really love them both. I love Stevie's voice on Sara and Angel is such a fun song esp live its great!!! Now I do love SOTM but chose not to pick it this time...than it would probably be Storms than Beautiful Child....its hard to pick from songs you really really love.....

They are all wonderful in their own way, but to pick one...

Sara

is about the most luscious Stevie song ever, so I have to go with Sara.

Christopher

SARA - because of its gorgeous sonic musicscape and great lyrical imagery. Plus Stevie's sublime fragile yet controlled vocal performance.

& this is hard to choose, but I'll toss it to BEAUTIFUL CHILD- One of Stevie's best slow songs. "I'm not a child anymore, I'm tall enough to reach for the star's"...

If there's a tie, you should have a sudden death vote for like 3 days, find the winner, and then go onto the next round.

MacShadowsBall

MissLadyLoki - Yeah a sudden death round sounds like a good way to go. Have it for 2 or 3 days, then go on to Christine's songs from Mirage.

By the looks of it, it's gonna be Sara and Beautiful Child duking uit out. Should be very interesting

Went for 'Sara', then 'Storms'.

BUT if you'd asked this three months ago, I'd probably have said 'Angel', then 'Sara'. I just find that favourite anythings change with my emotional weather, and that's never more true than with music.

'Sara', though, is fast becoming a total geek obsession with me. I think it's one of the very few tracks by any artist that can make me feel really up OR really down. And it's at least partially (I would argue principally, in fact) an artist singing to/about her muse(s), and I find that sooooo inspiring. *sighs*

Jellyman I'm with you on the Sara and Storms pick. Sara is absolutely my favorite released Stevie song. It's "the poet in my heart." Storms is just beautiful. I agree that it didn't translate to the stage very well though. I especially love listening to the Storms demo that sounds like it was recorded late at night and it's just Stevie and Lindsey and Stevie's voice is about gone. Lindsey sings along and Stevie does the best she can singing. I lurve it!

This is really exciting - in a Fleetwood Mac nerd sorta way! Really just goes to show that Stevie's set of songs from Tusk are her best songs. One of these songs might just win Favorite Stevie Song of All Time.

'Sara' to win, tho, please.

Uh, that would be me. Therefore subtract one point from all five tracks. Then add one point to Sara and one point to Storms. Now what's the score?

If we adjust the votes, per vivfox, SOTM has 22 votes, Sara & Storms have 21 votes, BC has 19, and Angel has 7 votes...

...or we could just leave the votes as is?

I like all of those actually. Sara would have to be my album favorite though.

I always wished they had mixed Angel to be more rocky like the way it was being played back in the studio on the Tusk documentary.

Don't get me wrong, I think SOTM is fine and everything, but I can't help but feel that people are sentimental about it only because of the fiery live performance in the Mirage live video. But at the end of the day, the live version and the studio version are virtually two entirely different songs; the studio version comes nowhere close to the live version's intensity and passion. It's not her greatest song musically or lyrically and for me it seems to be nothing more than a really cool way to end Side 2. It would definitely be regarded as one of Stevie's lesser tracks if there wasn't that incendiary live version to think about.

The opposite is true of "Sara," which I don't think really ever translated well to the stage. The live versions have sounded a bit flat and dull, where it becomes painfully obvious that it is basically a repetitive two-chord song. By contrast, the studio version is a miracle of sonic splendor- full of lush, ethereal layers of sound and haunting vocal effects; it is truly a studio masterpiece. So if we were truly evaluating Stevie's Tusk tracks for what they are (and not how they are played live), there is no question that "Sara" should be the hands-down winner in this round.

HejiraNYC, I very much get what your saying. One of the things I try to push with this battle of the songs, is judging the songs as they are presented on the album, the original album release. However, I can imagine it can be hard to separate those passionate, jaw-dropping performances from the possibly more "tame" song recordings.

You & I have diametrically opposed tastes in music, it seems.

I think the live versions of SOTM are WAY over the top (as opposed to the live vs studio "Rhiannon"s) and don't really care for them. I have always thought that the studio version IS the definitive version of the song.

It was a tight one, but I think Sara deserved it. It may be long and ramble-y, but it's an experiece on it's own just listening to it. Stupid as this may sound, it's the kind of song that should be listened to around dusk.
