Just wanted to post this great video of John Lennon getting grilled (and annoyed) by the famous cartoonist <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al_Capp">Al Capp</a>, self-described "dreadful, Neanderthal, fascist", during <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bed-in_for_peace">John & Yoko's Bed-In For Peace</a>.
Give it right back to 'em John!<p>
<object width="480" height="390"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/iYxFO8o-t2E?fs=1&hl=en_US&rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/iYxFO8o-t2E?fs=1&hl=en_US&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="390"></embed></object>
^ That video clip is one of my favorite moments in pop culture of the 20th century. I love it. Al Capp really comes off as inflexible, over-literal, and very stagnant in his way of thinking. I'm not saying J&Y's ideals are to-the-point, but they had some imagination. Even if what they were doing was seemingly silly and weird, it was still sincere and their motives should be applauded. They were doing soemthing POSITIVE and they weren't selling a record or a book or any other piece of merchandise- they were simply "selling" peace. I truly adore them both.
And Al Capp's, "You haven't any manners at all..."
John: "And you have manners?"
AC: "I'm your guest!!!"
JL: "I'm yours."
AC: "No your not this is YOUR bedroom!!!
:laugh::lol::laugh:
Al Capp may not be my cup of tea but he was kind of funny. John and his "discussion" was actually hilarious, except for the swings at Yoko. But she took it like a pro as well...I heart this. Thank you 3rd World Man!!!!!!:wavey:

Thanks Nico and 3rd World Man for posting those video's.The interview by Al Capp during John & Yoko's Bed-In For Peace. I think is kind of funny to.Except for his comments to Yoko. But she does take it in stride.I agree they were sincere, positive and their idealism is commendable. I have one Beatles related update to post.

Thats cool Nico you were in that same area of Soho In New York city in December. From what information I have read.Julian Lennon's new album has been completely done for a while. We are all waiting for when he decides to release it.I had read he was going to release it supposedly this summer 2011.But now after his Timeless photography exhibit and traveling around alot.I think he is getting a little rest and taking a break.Untill he decides what he is going to do musically or releasing that new album, or as even as a photographer.I understand not wanting to wait for things. But look how we as fans here for years and decades are allways waiting for Fleetwood Mac or Stevie or Lindsey .lol I have one update tonight.A short interview from a few days ago.

Thank you msLinds! How cute is this?
If you could go on tour with anyone, who would it be?
Sean: I would love to play with Antony and the Johnsons. To open every night for them would be amazing.
Charlotte: I would like to play bass.
Sean: What is this, a mutiny? What if i began encroaching on your territory? Maybe I should be the new face of Maybelline!
Charlotte: [laughing] Oh, snap!

Granted this is the catch-all Lennon/Beatles thread, but I think this deserves more notice than to be buried as post #259 in the "Beatle bin".
Granted this is the catch-all Lennon/Beatles thread, but I think this deserves more notice than to be buried as post #259 in the "Beatle bin".
Agreed!
George will always be incredible to me. He was my orginal Beatle love, as I fell in love with him as a 4 year old based on this album cover:
http://www.beatles-history.net/images/beatles-for-sale.jpg
His guitar playing was epic: beautiful, melodic, passionate. He was regarded as the "quiet Beatle" because he just didn't feel like delivering all the one-liners or trying to make the girls swoon with remarks drenched in heavy romanticism. But George was extremely witty, a pioneer of Eastern music and philosophies, and incredibly more deep than the silly coined nickname entailed.
All Things Must Pass is one of the greatest albums ever, and certainly at the very top of the top Beatle solo albums. George didn't mess around, and in my opinion Here Comes the Sun and Something are 2 of the 5 most beautiful moments on Abbey Road for me- and that is saying A LOT.
George will always be loved and adored for all that he brought to music and to the world in general. I want to leave off with my favorite George song and my favorite version of it:
<iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/UaY7TwMBHuc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
He was a beautiful man, and I miss him. The day I found out George was gone I cried instantly. It was a great loss of a man who really never wanted all the adulation and strove for a more peaceful, private existence. Love you George! :xoxo:
http://thecurvature.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/george-harrison.jpg
Mslinds: if you go back to post # 244 you will see that I extended more of what Yoko wrote in her Imagine Peace letter. I left some of that out accidentally.
I also wanted to leave a video with John and George for all to enjoy. I believe Tom Petty once said in the George Harrison tribute edition of "Rolling Stone" that, through knowing and spending so much time around George for so many years, he came to see that much of George's personality was formed by John. (That isn't to say, of course, that Paul and Ringo didn't rub off on him, or that each of them didn't also take loads from each other- they were really like brothers and, honestly, whenever I see a Beatle, whether the ones passed or still alive I am instantly reminded of the 3 who are not there and how much that one Beatle seems to act like another Beatle or even has mannerisms like the other...so strange but true)
Anyway, John and George had a very spiritual bond. There is a point in the Beatles ANTHOLOGY where 1980 John relays the story of the artist Gauguin and his struggles to create the 'ultimate masterpiece.' This is what John said:
He [Gauguin] had gone to Tahiti to escape his own strait jacket working at a bank. A wife and children, one whom he had been dedicating a personal journal he kept whilst living in the South Pacific, explaining why he had left his family. When he returned to Tahiti, he received a letter from home telling him his daughter had died! What a price to pay to 'go down in history'. He finally finished his large 'masterwork,' and died, the point being that, OK, he was a good painter, but the world could manage without his 'genius.' I believe the 'masterwork' was destroyed by fire after his death. The other point being, had he had access to so-called mysticism...fasting...meditation...and other disciplines (as in disciple) he could have reached the 'same space.' Hard work, I grant you, but easier than killing yourself and those around you.
So then George Harrison's immediate quote following John's story was this:
That was the great thing about John and what I got from him, from all those years. He saw that we are not just in the material world; he saw beyond death, that this life is just a little play that is going on. And he understood that. You wouldn't claim something like Gauguin neglected his family for art, or dying for your painting is stupid- why bother?- unless you have a feeling that there is something bigger in life. A painting of a sunset cannot compare to the real sunset. Art (like music) is an insignificant attempt at reproducing what God does every moment.
Having gone through that LSD period with John, right from the first day we ever took it, I understood him and I believe our thoughts were much more in line with one another.

I love George's solo music to.I also agree with you Nico that George and John seemed to have a spiritual bond to.I love George's work after he left the band.I also read that the streaming 24 hour concert is coming out for sale on Blueray DVD this month to.Its going to be still showing for several hours.online.Everyone have a safe, positive and great weekend and take care.

Russia’s Ural city of Yekaterinburg is playing host to the exhibition “Lennon with us”, which opened on the eve of UNESCO-established Beatles Day in honor of the legendary Liverpool quartet The Beatles. It is celebrated worldwide on January 16th. We have more from our correspondent Tatyana Zavyalova.
The Beatles is deservedly acknowledged to be one of the 20th century brightest phenomena. Even despite its break-up, the band has been overtaking other musicians in popularity for many years, as testified to by the constantly growing number of its fan clubs worldwide. It is an understatement to say that Russia is no exception here - our country can be called a sort of a leader in this respect. But Yekaterinburg apparently stands out among other Beatlemania-obsessed Russian cities as a paradise for Beatles fans. The country’s first monument to the band erected here on May 23rd 2009 features the four musicians as “white silhouettes fixed to a brick wall”. A nearby yard regularly hosts performances of famous Russian and foreign bands. The ongoing “Lennon with us” exhibition displays works by Ural artists, such as Felix Smirnov presenting a series of his brilliant graphic designs; avant-garde painter Sergei Pafenyuk, whose pictures are included in the Beatles Art collection and were appraised by Sir Paul McCartney himself; and Olga Shaerman with her gorgeous portraits of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, which she made after listening to the White Album tracks.

Something Else : Review of the Acoustic Sessions
March 2, 2011
The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger - Acoustic Sessions (2010)
Featuring this dreamtime folk whimsy and a fabulist band name, The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger sound at times like Syd Barrett, or maybe Simon and Garfunkel. Or, like an ornate, late-night 1960s French pop singer, after perhaps one too many tokes.
What they don't sound like, not really, is John Lennon. And that's saying something. See, last November's Acoustic Sessions is the quietly issued debut of Sean Lennon -- second son of Beatle John; only child of his union with Yoko Ono -- and talented multi-instrumentalist/model/girlfriend Charlotte Kemp Muhl as the Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger.
Sean is, actually, this atom-smashing blend of his two parents, with the gentle romanticism and sharp wordcraft that represents one part of his father's complex legacy, but also the far-out mysticism of his conceptual artist mom. Yet, in his own very gentle way, Lennon slips away from celebrity's claustrophobia with the GOASTT's understated Acoustic Sessions, a fantastic effort in the literal sense of the word.
http://www.somethingelsereviews.com/2011/03/ghost-of-saber-tooth-tiger-acoustic.html
As Sean has matured, I do hear a LOT of John in his music. I never search for it, never expect it, but it is always there- lurking underneath the nuances of every note, skipping with each melody, and floating along the texture and beauty of the harmonies. Sean is definitely his father's son. As much as people want to embrace the Yoko in him, there is just as much- even more and in eerie amounts- John. I love and appreciate Sean's music for it's rich beauty, gorgeous and complex chords and melodies, and the overall sound his voice and music create with his poignant and aching lyrics. I honestly can't help but be in awe of his growth as an artist. Shine on "beautiful boy."

The Ghost Of A Saber Tooth Tiger
As the only child of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, Sean Lennon really needs no introduction. Actually, neither does Charlotte Kemp Muhl.Without knowing it, you’ve probably seen the 23-year-old fashion model in commercials for Maybelline, or in the pages of your favorite glossy magazine. Together, they are surely one of New York’s most artsy and fashionable couples. Aside from forming a romantic relationship, they also started Chimera Music together and they formed a band called The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger (often abbreviated GOASST and pronounced “Ghost”). Bob and I took the train from to New York to interview them at Sirius. For their recent tour, and for the studio performance GOASTT gave us, Sean and Charlotte were joined by horn player CJ Camerieri who can do amazing things with a trumpet and a french horn. To their regret, CJ does not appear on The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger’s debut CD called Acoustic Sessions. After a late start, the three played most of the cuts from the album plus a few new songs. Sean sang, while playing guitar and a kick drum at the same time. Charlotte sang and alternated between an electric bass, an accordion and melodica, while CJ added beautifully strange textures by electronically altering his horn playing. I saw this same trio perform flawlessly live on stage a few weeks before but for this studio session, we indulged Sean and Charlotte’s competitive perfectionism so recording the songs took longer than expected, but we were still able to record a 40 minute interview with them before Bob and I said thank you and rushed back to Penn Station to catch our train to DC.

Lennon's Ghost in Marfa
It was a surreal evening and the product of a fluke happenstance. Last month, my good friend and gifted songwriter, Laura Gibson, informed me that she was going to be the opening act on tour for Sean Lennon's new project, the Ghost of a Sabertooth Tiger, a duo with himself and his partner Charlotte Kemp Muhl. Since Laura had a break in the tour in between Austin and Tucson, she asked me if I wanted to put together a show for her and I. As a joke, sort of, I suggested that if Sean Lennon wanted to play on the bill, we could make room. She called me back a few days later and said, "Well actually..."
And so that is how I ended up on a bill with the son of John and Yoko, the beautiful boy himself. While Sean does not lean on his heritage, he doesn't reject it either. He is the incarnate image of his 60s era father and doesn't try very hard to sound or look very different. Why should he? He seems comfortable with his inherited talent, but not necessarily the legacy. His tiny band travels with one extra trumpet player and a sound man in a modest van that they load and unload themselves.

Kim Gordon, Thurston Moore and Yoko Ono Making A Record at Sear Sound
March 2, 2011
A number of interesting artists have been recording at the legendary Sear Sound in Midtown Manhattan — Walter Sear’s legacy of audio excellence lives on!
Yoko Ono + 1/2 Sonic Youth recording at Sear Sound
First, Kim Gordon, Thurston Moore and Yoko Ono are making a record together. And they’ve been recording it at Sear Sound, with Chris Allen engineering.
Both Sonic Youth and Ono have a history with the studio — Sonic Youth having recorded multiple albums (Rather Ripped, Sister, Experimental Jet Set, Trash and No Star) in Studio A with its Neve 8038 with Flying Faders. Apparently Walter Sear even recorded one of their earliest records at his former studio in the Paramount Hotel. And Ono recorded and mixed her last record Between My Head and the Sky at Sear with Allen engineering in Studio C, on the Avalon/Sear custom console.

Cool. I love Sonic Youth and this collaboration sounds interesting.
That little boy in my signature gif is indeed Sean as a child. When I was a very little girl, I fell in love with the song "Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy)" and at one point I had watched the John Lennon video collection (not the new one that came out a few years back but the really old one that had a snippet of John talking before each video.) Anyway, I always thought Sean was the cutest child I had ever seen. He reminded me of the "Jungle Book" character Mowgli in the Disney cartoon. So adorable. And this little clip of Sean always touched me. So precious. And since I've been on a Sean kick, I wanted to acknowledge my original love for Sean.
I think the gif could go along with Sean's spirit. He's a really free-spirited, fun, and youthful man. I love the innocence of many of his lyrics, and the lingering reference to paper planes- which I believe is what he had on the mobile in his room as a child.

How Peace Museum became a shadow of itself
After three decades, institution is defunct and its artifacts in storage
When Chicago's Peace Museum was founded in 1981, its organizers had a simple yet lofty goal: preserve the remnants of famous peace movements to emphasize the cost of violence.
But three decades later, the museum is defunct, and its artifacts, which included photos of Martin Luther King Jr. and a John Lennon guitar, are in storage. Worried about possible damage to the collection, the Illinois attorney general took the unusual step last month of suing for control of it.

The Ghost Of A Saber Tooth Tiger
The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger is a folk music duo composed of Sean Lennon and Charlotte Kemp Muhl. Sean is the son of legendary Beatle John Lennon, and Charlotte is the most beautiful person on the planet (sorry, had to go extreme, anything said about Charlotte other then the daughter of a Beatle would have seemed under whelming). I mean she is smoking hot. Oh, and she can sing… no big deal. The two have been together for the past six years and finally released an album in the summer of 2010, Jardin Du Luxembourg. Shortly after they released their Acoustic Sessions which are they same songs, but, like, acousticky? Music Break: GOASTT – Lavender Road
I fist stumbled across these little birds while listening the NPR tiny desk concert series. I admit their name made me push play on the video and before they started singing I had fell in love, mainly with their personalities. They were bickering back and forth like an old married couple, just being the super cute little couple they are.* For the first few moments of the video we get a chance to see them as they are, not caring about the cameras and microphones, just being them. They had an exchange about a tambourine that made me want to always be a fly on the wall of their home, just to hear what little ‘isms will be said next.

SXSW interview: Yoko Ono Lennon
March 7,2011
Yoko Ono's remixed "Move on Fast" refashions her already ebullient 1972 song with infinite motion. The 78-year-old widow of former Beatle John Lennon has a new single that recently topped Billboard's dance chart and debuts at South by Southwest this week.
"I always wanted to go, but I didn't have the chance," Ono says. "Now I not only (will) do my discussion with (KUT 90.5 disc jockey) Jody (Denberg), but also I have a chance to do my show." We talked to Ono a few weeks before she headed to Austin.

Yoko Ono's Surprise Rebirth as a Dance Music Icon
The 78-year-old artist has had six consecutive Number One dance hits
A quick glance at Billboard's Dance/Club Play Songs chart shows many unsurprising names: Britney Spears, Rihanna, Taio Cruz, Kylie Minogue and Florence + The Machine. Up above all of them, at the Number One spot, is Yoko Ono with a dance remix of her super obscure 1972 album track "Move On Fast." It's her sixth consecutive Number One dance hit. "Those are all incredibly creative people on the chart with me," Ono tells Rolling Stone. "I respect Lady Gaga very much. I feel a touch guilty that I'm up there. But it's all right, that happens."

Love the new GOASTT interview. They always sound so intelligent/quirky/modest to me. I love the part where Sean sets Char a little straight after he discusses the media comparing her to Yoko- whom Sean mentions is SO different from Char- and then Charlotte says, "people think you're trying to be like your dad just because you wear glasses..." And Sean says, "yeah, well that's different because I look like him and he's my dad..."
It is totally different because, unlike Yoko and Charlotte who don't look alike/aren't similar artistically/are not related/are from two very different cultural backgrounds Sean is John's child. Big difference, but so cute that they have a relationship so strong they can actually set each other straight without even upsetting the other. It's an intellectual pairing in so many ways, and in that sense VERY much like Sean's parents. But only in that sense. ;)

BTW Nico, GREAT pictures of John and Yoko getting married! Now for an actual (maybe original) contribution from me!
Ok, maybe only a few of you John Lennon fans will be interested in this story:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/home/moslive/article-1364525/JAMES-MARTIN-John-Lennons-car-wasnt-Beetle--Ferrari-restored.html
John Lennon's first car wasn't a Beetle (haha), it was a Ferrari! Apparently, someone has restored john Lennon's original Ferrari 330 GT 2. The article states:
"It's not a good vintage, but this one did belong to John Lennon. In fact, it was the first car he owned, as he didn’t take his driving test until after Beatles For Sale came out.
The papers reported it and the next morning every cash-hungry car dealer in Surrey was outside his house (Kenwood in Weybridge, bought for £20,000 seven months before). You can imagine the scene. He was offered Maseratis, an Aston Martin DB5 and an* E-Type Jag, but this is what he picked."
<p>
<img src="http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2011/03/09/article-1364525-0D8ABB8E000005DC-334_468x561.jpg">

<p>
Now, you have to agree, it's a beautiful car, and I can understand why John was enamored by it. But he must have been disappointed, as he sold it less than a year later. But, in the end, the Rolls-Royce he decked out in psychedelia was a much better fit for him ;-)

No Yellow Submarine for Disney
March 14, 2011 - Disney has sunk it's plans for the remake of the Beatles' 1968 film, Yellow Submarine, originally slated for release in 2012. Robert Zemeckis was to produce the film, using 16 of the Beatles' classics including All You Need is Love and Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds. The scuttlebutt was that the poor performance---tanking (sorry)---of this weekend's opening of Mars Needs Mom had something to do with the decision.

The Takeaway: Yoko Ono Lennon on Disaster and Hope in Japan (audio)
March 16, 2011
From John Hockenberry & Celeste Headlee, The Take Away.
Yoko Ono Lennon experienced the devastation of WWII on Japan. Since then, she’s moved to the United States and worked as an artist and musician. She speaks strongly about pain, love, and her reverence for planet Earth. In the wake of Japan’s quake and tsunami, she has been thinking of her home country and contributing to the Red Cross. She encourages others to do the same, or to participate in the rebuilding of Japan in a more hands-on way if they can. Amidst the pain and the destruction, she is hopeful that her country can rebuild.

That sounds really wonderful. I'm glad they're doing this, and Yoko is certainly one of the most influential and universally-known Japanese artists in history, so her presence there is truly rewarding. My heart goes out to each and every single one of those suffering right now through this devastating crisis. There really aren't words that can sum up any of the feelings everyone has at the moment. :(
It'd be even greater if Julian was involved. Given his recent posts on FB, it's obvious he's shaken over this matter and he seems a charitable spirit. It would be kind of beautiful if the whole family got involved, but that's my own personal feelings on the matter. Truthfully, I'm grateful that this is being done at all, and quickly enough, to aid those in need. THAT is what matters most here, not my selfish desire for a Lennon family reunion.

Since there has no updated posting from Julian about his friend on his Facebook page.I think there is a chance Julian has lost his friend to the earthquake or tsunami. So I also am keeping Julian and his friend in my Pagan prayers. Also all the people in Japan.I have one update.

Decades dancing with Yoko Ono
March 18, 2011
The Chronicle compiled these three excerpts below from my three decades of Yoko Ono conversations . They remind me that Yoko is always a forthright and fearless interview subject, and I'm anxious to see what direction our South by Southwest interview will take on Friday. My most recent conversation with Yoko, who earlier this month notched her sixth consecutive No. 1 on Billboard's Hot Dance Club Play Chart with "Move On Fast," was videotaped in an NYC studio last August to discuss the CD releases coinciding with John Lennon's 70th birthday. Imagine my amazement when she emerged for the shoot in a long, black wig and white pajamas and took her place in a bed with a backdrop re-creating the couple's historic 1969 Bed-In. By the pillow where her late husband would have been was a plant – his 2010 reincarnation! Talking to her in that setting was fun and beyond surreal.

Yoko Ono talks to Jody Denberg at SXSW - "John's guitar competed with my voice"
March 18, 2011, Austin, Texas - Yoko Ono was interviewed by Austin DJ and long-time friend Jody Denberg at the SXSW music convention in Austin, Texas today. Ono, whose remix of her 1972 song*Move On Fast is #1 on the Billboard dance charts this week, has had the same luck with her last six singles. Not bad for a 78 year old.Yoko talked to Jody about many subjects, including husband John Lennon's reaction to her music when they first met, how money features in the pursuit for art, and the connection between her artistic ideas of the 60s and the dance remixes of today that have taken her music into the 21st century.
After mentioning that her son Sean was "courageous" for starting his own record label (Chimera Music), she was asked about the tragedy in Japan. She said her family and friends were "fine" but that she had spent sleepless nights worrying about the people of her homeland. She wondered if the Earth was angry over how it's been treated, saying that perhaps "we're not giving it enough care and concern."

Scene report: Yoko Ono interview
At an age where it’s more common to be contemplating hip replacement surgery, Yoko Ono has had six No. 1 dance singles on the Billboard charts. Yet another noteworthy chapter in a fairly epic life. As Ann Magnuson said, “She’s a living haiku.”

Yoko Ono talks Japan relief, Lady Gaga, performs at SXSW
Yoko Ono, who will be performing in Austin tonight at the South By Southwest music festival, spoke to Rolling Stone about her plans to participate in a Japan relief benefit later this month. A supporter of gay rights, promoter of peace (give it a chance), and contributor to AIDS outreach programs, the 78-year-old Yoko is a descendant of a Japanese Emperor. Certainly no stranger to tragedy, at age 12 she found shelter with her family in a special bunker of Tokyo’s Azabu region during the great firebombing of 1945. So it’s no surprise that she’s trying to help the people of Japan today.

Was Yoko Ono the most talented Beatle – Yoko interviewed
Of course it’s a facetious title but one that sets up an agreement. If I was a great artist I would just have a picture of a grapefruit with the words ‘pick me’ across the front but I’m not a great artist.
Yoko One is.Her concepts and ideas make you explode with excitement, opening your mind up to new places and her music was also brilliant. The song that her and Lennon were working on the night he was murdered was ‘Walking On Thin Ice’, perhaps the best post Beatles song.
I’m sat here watching Yoko One get interviewed onstage and she is great. Funny, modest and smart you can see why John Lennon fell for her.

^I love the comment posted under the article "Was Yoko Ono the Most Talented Beatle?":
Emily says:
I love the feelings you share for Yoko's significance as an artist. She was absolutely a pioneer of many avant garde concepts, an amazingly forward-thinking lady with a truly unique presence. I think she rocks.
However, in this article it seems your giving a little less credit to John Lennon. He was also a pioneer, a forward-thinker, and a unique and fascinating presence. Yoko Ono couldn't be bothered otherwise to marry and stay with someone whose fame and success so overshadowed her, whose fans were rabid and jealous, and whose media attention took every opportunity to put her down as an artist and slam her as a person. Yoko chose John as much as he chose her- because she saw someone who went against the status quo and had a larger than life way of presenting his ideals. The Bed-Ins for peace were very much John as well- in fact they were his idea. But together they were able to do something so interesting and poignant that, yes, you can't think of the late-60s peace movement without remembering this wonderful demonstration. I love it, and I wasn't even around in that era.
John and Yoko TOGETHER were so fantastic and amazing that I honestly look at the lady today and can't help but picture a 70 year-old John sitting next to her. It's just a given. Each of them made their own art, but the way they stirred people, shook them, and often confused was quite similar. John Lennon was so much more than just a great songwriter. He had his finger on the button of so many people's thoughts and ideas, and he knew when and how to push to make the biggest impact. With Yoko Ono, it couldn't be louder or more in-your-face.
I love John and Yoko, man! And thanks mslinds...keep it coming!!!

They want to hold onto something they never had in the first place. Anybody who claims to have some interest in me as an individual artist or even as part of the Beatles has absolutely misunderstood everything I ever said if they can’t see why I’m with Yoko. And if they can’t see that, they don’t see anything. John Lennon
Happy Anniversary John and Yoko!!!
The love you shared for one another and the things you believed in continue to inspire millions all over the world to this day.

Yoko Ono and the Plastic Ono Band close out SXSW, Sean Lennon professes his love for tUnE-yArDs
You know it's time for SXSW to be over when even a Yoko Ono show is full of pushy, angry people and there's a riot happening just outside.*The iconic professor of peace did her best to reach out to the tired audience, peering out over a pair of dark oval sunglasses to peer into the eyes of the people standing in the front rows while grinning a sweet smile. Dressed in all black with a white scarf tied around her neck and a black wide-brimmed hat, and galloping around the stage like a spry little cowgirl, Ono looked pretty pleased to be playing a show in Texas.

It was then that I made the aforementioned walk up 6th Street to the Elysium, which was hosting a showcase featuring artists from Sean Lennon's label Chimera Music. There was a strict, though commonly violated, rule for the venue: no photography of any kind

Well thanks again to msLinds and Nico for the great videos and links! And of course, Happy Anniversary for John & Yoko :)
I was happy that Yoko & Sean got such great reviews, it sounds like they really closed the festival down in style! I could certainley do without all the drunken brawlers that seems to gravitate to these shows, but apparently Yoko's performance made braving the dangerous crowds worthwhile  Let's hope she brings her mesmerizing show closer to home, and soon! Nico, that video "Oh Yoko" was fantastic! My favorite part was at the end where they are running on the beach for each other, crying out "John!"..."Yoko!"..."John!"... that was so hilarious  They both had such a great sense of humor and a zeal for life. Keep the great John-related stuff coming!

Yoko Ono/Plastic Ono Band – live at SXSW
Yoko Ono and the new Plastic Ono Band
The Ghost Of A Saber tooth Tiger
This is a moment.
A moment of pure spine tingling genius. One of those moments that makes the hair stand up on the back of your neck and a moment that you lock into.Yoko Ono has gone into one of those trilling vocal things that she does and she sounds like nothing else. The closest I can think of is the late and great Ari Up in her Slits prime or John Lydon on Metal Box. That boundary breaking use of the voice to go somewhere else- somewhere deep, dark and emotional. This is the primal scream therapy that she and John famously went through in 1970 that you had heard so much about and it’s pouring out live right in front of you and it’s insanely powerful and knocks you off kilter.

Yoko Ono on Lennon, Love, Feminism, and Japan
With a new dance hit, "Move on Fast," and a forthcoming benefit show for Japan on March 27th at Columbia University's Miller Theatre, Yoko Ono attended at the South by Southwest music festival for an official interview and to belt her signature guttural cackles with the Plastic Ono Band at Sean Lennon's Chimera Music showcase. We met with Ono in her suite at Austin's Four Seasons Hotel before her public appearances. Dressed all in black, busty in a low-cut shirt, and wearing a guitar-pick necklace, Ono was exuberant, smiley, and warm.

It’s not easy being the child of a musical legend—let alone two musical legends, which might explain why Sean Lennon continues to keep a fairly low profile as a recording artist. Although he’s released solo material, he seems most comfortable in collaborative settings, which perhaps provide a better vehicle for sidestepping any unfair comparisons with his father.

I really don't like that summation of Sean at all. It's so belittling and generic. He isn't hiding because of who his parents are, he's trying new things. He is doing a collaborative project with his band, and he's producing tons of different projects on the side as well. If he doesn't have a solo album out right now it isn't because he can't, it's because he doesn't want to or doesn't have time. People just love to RIDE THOSE STEREOTYPES.
Oh, and Yoko's fame and success has never been a hindrance for Sean. He has been her greatest fan, because he knows her brand of unique is difficult for so many people to take, even though a lot of it is soooooo great. It's John's success, his status and luminous legend, that is harder for Sean AND Julian, if anything. And I think they've handled it well.
Shoot, it isn't easy being the son of a musical icon- try being the son of a musical icon who was a Beatle. Dang, give him more credit please.

‘John Lennon offered me lyrics and drawings for a fiver’ - Crosby artist John Haslam
A CROSBY artist has relived the moment he turned down the chance to buy lyrics and artwork from a young John Lennon.
John Haslam was working in Liverpool city centre as an artist in 1960 when the chance meeting occurred at the Jacaranda pub on Slater Street.
It happened before Lennon became famous with The Beatles and the young musician was just 20 at the time.
Mr Haslam remembers the moment as “surreal” but he turned down the offer because he did not have enough cash at the time to pay for them.
MHe told the Crosby Herald: “It was a surreal moment because I thought that he was a charismatic person.
“There was an electricity in the air when it happened.
“He showed me bits of songs. The scribbles were drawn onto an imperial sheet of paper and they were done in pencil.
“I said to him ‘I can’t afford it at the moment’. I was only on £15 a week and he wanted £5 from me.
“I did say, ‘they are great and they have got value and they are the best thing you have shown from your portfolio.’
“He (Lennon) said it was a shame I didn’t want them because he could do with the money.”
Mr Haslam added: “I said to him he should stick at the music and forget the art game because his music was great. I remember him from the Quarrymen.”
Asked what Lennon was like as a person Mr Haslam, now 76, recalled: “He was very charismatic. He had something about him, but I don’t know what it was.
“There was something in the air at that moment. He had something, but I don’t know what.
“I knew it was strange. It was an amazing day and it was very mysterious. I remember it as clear as it can be.
“I thought he had something special. He was very sensible and quiet. I thought he was very intelligent."
(A bit redundant, but definitely sharing the John love!!!)

Hi msLinds, thanks for the props, and I was teasing that it was just you & Nico reading this thread ;) The article that I read stated the price was $90,000. They have a link you can click on, which leads you to believe they will send you info. I thought if they had a brochure, it would be a great John item to have! I secretly added a friend to the list so she would get a brochure too! But alas, they just have a local dealer respond via email so you can arrange to come in and order one. **sigh** So, I guess the only thing you can do if you're really interested is to go to the closest Steinway dealer. A remastered version of Imagine is featured on this 38-track compilation album to benefit those struck by the disastrous earthquake/tsunami in Japan.
John as well as Adele, Foo Fighters and Eminem are among the acts featured on the final tracklisting of the new 'Songs For Japan' charity album.
Labels Sony , EMI, Universal and Warner have joined forces to release the 38-song album. Profits will go to the Japanese Red Cross to benefit the victims of the recent Japanese earthquakes and tsunami.
The album is available now to download from Itunes.apple.com and will come out physically on April 4.
Meanwhile, Beady Eye, Primal Scream, Graham Coxon, Paul Weller and more are set to for a benefit gig for victims of the Japan disasters in London next month.
Here is the tracklist:
John Lennon - 'Imagine' (remastered)

You're welcome msLinds, and I hope someone on this board gets one...or gets to play one...supposedly only 50 will be made so maybe all the John fans could chip in and buy one, put it on display, and anyone who donated could play it, whatya think??
Now Nico, that list is HUGE for that charity CD, wow, people love Japan, and we should be doing everything we can to help. I can claim to be a fan of only two :sorry: of those artists, John of course and Bruce ***sigh*** I'm sure someone with much better taste **ahem** will be able to list many more  :p But seriously, a remastered or unreleased track from John is worth the price of the CD, so I say buy it!
You're welcome msLinds, and I hope someone on this board gets one...or gets to play one...supposedly only 50 will be made so maybe all the John fans could chip in and buy one, put it on display, and anyone who donated could play it, whatya think??

Well Nico, I WILL be buying that CD, though I might 'donate' it to 'charity' afterwards ;) and I must confess I don't own the John box (some fan I know) though I have heard from a close friend that it's FAB, no? But I will be building up my John collection, for sure!

Well I love John's music, but the only actual John CD I have right now is Plastic Ono Band, which I love  I had Double Fantasy on vinyl (when it came out) and I want as my next John purchase to be Double Fantasy Stripped. I heard that whole CD and it was AMAZING. What order would you recommend for building a John collection?

The frick!!! You only have Plastic Ono Band. Dude, no. :distress: That is pitiful.
I mean, POB is a work of art. In undergrad I wrote a fantastic paper arguing the significance of POB as a confessional piece of musical art in the 20th century. It was a one-of-a-kind, never done before masterpiece. I can't praise it enough. POB is so different from the Beatles that it really shook people up a little and, obviously, some even stopped following John in favor of Paul because Paul's stuff was pretty Beatle-lite.
I would go with these next...
1. Double Fantasy stripped + Double Fantasy remastered
2. Walls & Bridges
3. Imagine
4. Rock and Roll
5. Mind Games
6. Milk & Honey
7. Sometime in NYC
8. Live Peace In Toronto
9. Lennon Anthology box
10. Lennon compilation that has all his songs including singles released
**after this I would start looking for some hard-to-find demos, man. There is some BRILLIANT stuff out there. I have some if you want and I'm happy to share.**

Well yes, I agree, that is pathetic, but I DO have more John, just **sheepishly** it's somewhat of a copy, but I have Anthology [Box set] , Greatest Hits and others, plus I have the real deal of Sean's Friendly Fire CD/DVD, Into The Sun and Half-Man/Half-Horse...does that give me any points back  my good music trading friend has been slacking lately ;)

Well, well, well...you DO have the Anthology. What's your favorite track? Come on? I want to know...
Also, owning Sean gives you tons of brownie points. Tons. Sean is John's more innovative offspring, so just on that alone you earn tons of points. If you'd had Julian's stuff it wouldn't count until you at least bought Imagine.
So, which are you going to buy next?
And have you decided yet to purchase some Julian stuff? Come on!

Ugh. I LOVE the POB songs on Anthology...some even more than the album versions. I can't lie. JL Anthology trumps everything I've bought since. Except I was almost equally mesmerized with Double Fantasy stripped. I have passionate love for that album as a whole, period. It's so great. John's solo music has always inspired me. It's stunning. :xoxo:

Yikes:blob2:! For a moment I thought you dreaded those first nine songs for some reason...whew! Well, looking back at the tracks, they are all amazing. You can't have one without the other three, disc four has all the great DF stuff, with cute little Sean adding his contributions ;)

Yeah and disc 4 also has Mucho Mungo, which I just love sooooo much. It makes me happy just to hear it.
I know a lot of people get sad, depressed, melancholy when thinking of John's music in those last years. I understand that. It's tough to come to grips with his death, even for those of us who were not old enough to realize it. But I try to appreciate all we got from him, which is so much. Most people's favorite artists...you normally choose an album or three and maybe have a total of 30 songs (if that) that you love and listen to on a regular basis. But with John there was so much more than just 30, and almost all of it is perfect.
I realize he isn't here to make music now, which I'm sure he would be doing with great fervor, but so many of his colleagues are putting out utter tripe that it doesn't make me feel that bad.
Anyway, those are all amazing songs.
Be My Baby, Real love, My Life, Freda People, Luck Of The Irish...there are so many wonderful gems to choose from on there. It's a must-own to be frank.

OoooohOhhh! That's my cue to ramble on about my New Favorite Band In The World At The Moment, THE FLAMING LIPS! Another one of those "where in the hades was I?" .... these guys were churning out great albums and touring all over the 80s and 90s and I was totally in the dark. Sad, I know.
Well, thankfully they are still churning our great albums AND touring, and check this killer lineup that is coming up SOON:

Yes, The Flaming Lips are playing with GOASTT in Charlotte (appropos, no?) North Carolina on May 17th! I knew they had to be fans of each others work, what a great pairing. Now they are somewhat musical opposites, but it will be a great contrast nonetheless. I hope some Ledgies get to go to this show (me 1st!), so please post if you are going :]

Just my own little suggestion (and pet peeve). :distress:
Try to find the original CD release of Walls & Bridges...the recent remaster/reissue has been Yoko-tampered, removing May Pang's vocals on "#9 Dream", taking out some other vocal parts and re-doing them with her own vocals. Plus, she redid the cover, using what WAS the back cover photo for the front and not using the original drawing that John did as a child for the cover like the original album. Just destroyed the vibe (for me, anyway).
I'm not really a fan of the "stripped" & "naked" tampered albums ("Double Fantasy" & "Let It Be"). Just seems like a big "reinvent history" try.

I need to go back and listen to my W&B because I didn't notice this, but was it the version of the album located in the "Signature" box or the one Yoko released a few years prior. I agree with you on the cover of the previous release, but in the box didn't she sort that out? I thought she did but I could be wrong.
I'm going to respectfully disagree about DF stripped. I love that John's voice is placed in the forefront, like his songs on Milk & Honey and, though the original album is perfect to me, I appreciated hearing his voice so clear with minimal instrumental overlay and production stuff. Just my opinion. :)

I need to get back here when I have time to discuss the most recent postings here.About John's CD's and the remastered albums etc. But I want to get these updates posted here.I did read a post by Sean himself. That everyone in the band is fine and none of the instruments got damaged at all.Because of the fire they had after the Japan fundraiser concert this past weekend in the building next door,to where they performed. The performance was over when this happened.I am glad to hear they were all safe and ok.There is another Japan fundraiser this tuesday night with Yoko and Sean and other musicians.Everyone have a safe and good week and take care

Yoko Ono, Sean Lennon, and others play Miller Theatre to benefit Japan earthquake victims
Sonic Youth, Yoko Ono, Sean Lennon, Cibo Matto—rarely has Columbia drawn such a star-studded cast of musician’s as for tonight’s Miller Theatre Concert to Benefit Japan Earthquake Relief. Ticket sales raised $33,000 for the cause, and the crowd was, if not elated, plenty satisfied. In a word, the night was a success.

Miller Theatre evacuated due to fire (UPDATE: Fire in print services, Dodge gym also evacuated)
Miller Theatre, the site of tonight’s Concert to Benefit Japan Earthquake Relief, has been evacuated due to a fire alarm.
Bystanders say the alarm began after the concert ended, when the audience had mostly left the theater. Deidre Fuchs, of Public Safety, told Spectator that the alarm started in the print shop in Dodge Hall, a building attached to the theater, where a print machine was smoking.

At the end of their four-song set on March 27th at Columbia University's Miller Theater in New York, Sonic Youth played "Shaking Hell" from their 1983 album, Confusion Is Sex – a song about transgressive fantasies with a title that eerily captured the urgency of the night, a benefit for disaster relief in Japan. The first of five Concerts for Japan organized and curated by composer-saxophonist John Zorn, the sold-out Miller Theater show was headlined by Yoko Ono and the latest version of her Plastic Ono Band and included performances by guitarist Marc Ribot, ex-Faith No More vocalist Mike Patton with pianist Uri Caine, Zorn's Aleph Trio and a reunion of the Japanese art-pop duo Cibo Matto. The event raised over $33,000 from ticket sales, with all parties donating services, space and gear.

Now I confess I know nothing about the changing of the original W&B, and I will agree that I am usually not a fan of remixed, altered reissues...but I implore you to give DF stripped a chance. A friend played it for me the day it came out and I was blown away! I didn't realize how much over-production (my opinion now) there was on the original. John's voice comes through so loud and clear it's stunningly eerie. You must give it a chance!

I have couple more reviews with photographs about that Japan relief fundraiser concert
with Sean and Yoko and other musicians this past sunday.
The New York Times
March 28, 2011
Allies in Improvisation and in a Cause
The earthquake, tsunami and nuclear crisis in Japan have inspired benefit concerts across New York City. One of the first to be announced was held on Sunday night at Miller Theater at Columbia University.
It was organized by the saxophonist and composer John Zorn, who has lived and performed in Japan and for decades has collaborated with, promoted and released albums by Japanese musicians. The program, headlined by Yoko Ono and Sonic Youth, reaffirmed longstanding ties between what were (in the 1970s and ’80s) known as New York’s downtown improvisers and their Japanese counterparts and co-conspirators. Sold out in two hours, the concert was also broadcast on Japanese television and to Columbia students. It raised $34,000 for Japan Society’s Earthquake Relief Fund.

Thank you so much msLinds for posting these reviews/photographs regarding the concert for Japan. It really sounded like an amazing show, and all these artists seem so full of energy. I Love Lucy: George Harrison’s Favorite Gibson Guitars
George Harrison was the “quiet Beatle” – at least until he plugged in an electric guitar and, to paraphrase another famed guitar wrangler of the era, “let his freak flag fly.” One of the key instruments in Harrison’s guitarsenal was “Lucy,” a more solid-bodied relative of B.B. King’s beloved “Lucille”. Lucy is one of the world’s most famous Gibson Les Paul Standards, although her 1957 date of birth dictates that she began her life as a Les Paul Gold Top.

Then I see Sean doing his best Tony Levin on Bass with Cibo Matto… that's so cool they can pick up any instrument and go to town  And that Antony dude, that was so weird seeing this huge Sumo-wrestler guy croon as delicate as Tiny Tim tiptoeing through the tulips! A couple more reviews with photographs about the fundraising benefit for Japan at Le Poisson Rouge on March 29, 2011.I think the beginning of that last article from the Village Voice that the writer is full wrong about Sean and the writer is full of it.But its common and typical of the stereotypes and labels people have about not just him but other people they don't actually know about. At least he did say Sean was charming in the article later.

The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger & Laura Gibson | Live at The Troubadour | Los Angeles, CA
March 29, 2011
Back in January I had the pleasure of shooting The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger, a whimsical duo made up of Sean Lennon and Charlotte Kemp Muhl, for mxdwn.com and Laura Gibson. My review and photos can be found on MxDwn but I thought I’d include a few my photos here on my blog that didn’t make it to MxDwn. For any readers that come upon this band, I truly implore you to go see them play because they really are quite wonderful.

I really appreciate that Sean was one of the first in the entertainment field to respond so quickly to the disaster in Japan with these tribute shows. There are a lot of people who suffered devastating losses, whose lives are changed forever, and it means a lot that some people realize that and want to give back, despite the talk about Japan's wealth. I honestly can't imagine looking at a situation like that earthquake/tsunami and not wanting to do something, so Sean and Yoko and all the others involved get my props for putting action to words and giving 100% of the proceeds instead of a portion.
Thank you for the articles mslinds. The Village Voice writer appears to be deliberating a lot of tongue-in-cheek with that intro, but it's borderline stale at this point. Whether people want to admit this or not, and I get that it sounds grandiose so some won't, Sean Lennon is the most talented and creative offspring of any of the former Beatles. Haters gonna hate.
Hey, try reading comments from the Ohnotheydidn't board regarding Sean, Yoko, and even John. I tell you...ignorant people be multiplying like mosquitoes and you get them near a computer, with the anonymity of the internet, and all that stupid comes right out. It can get bad enough to be hilarious but then you think...these are their actual thoughts?:eek::shocked:

Thanks Nico, for posting the link to the Talk Stoop video interview with Sean and Charlotte.I think he looks good in the nicely trimmed beard to.With that long wild hair of his.I think sometimes.Charlotte needs to bush him out at night, when he can't struggle and try to stop it.lol I call it Sean's beautiful hippy boy hair.I grew up 5 minutes from the Haight Ashbury in San Francisco the late 1960's and saw real hippys outside everyday.I consider myself a expect on this matter.lol I have a couple beautiful music video's I want to post.I have listened to them before. But these brought tears to my eyes. They so beautiful and thinking about John and the other former Beatles working on the song and finishing it in the studio for him.I am adding more than one version of it here.I am sure I will have some more updates very soon.Everyone have a safe and great weekend and take care.
Real Love" is a song written by British rock musician John Lennon. Lennon made six takes of the song in 1979 and 1980 with "Real Life", a different song that merged with "Real Love". The song was ignored until 1988 when the sixth take was used on the documentary soundtrack Imagine: John Lennon."Real Love" was subsequently reworked by the three remaining members of The Beatles (Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr) in late 1995, an approach also used for another incomplete Lennon track, "Free as a Bird". "Real Love" was released as a Beatles single in 1996 in the United Kingdom, United States and many other countries; it was the opening track on the Beatles' Anthology 2 album. It is the last "new" credited Beatles song to originate and be included on an album. To date, it is the last single by the group to become a Top 40 hit in the U.S.The song reached number four and number 11 in the UK and U.S. singles charts, respectively, and earned a gold record faster than a number of the group's other singles. The song was not included on the BBC Radio 1 playlist, prompting criticism from fans and British members of Parliament. After the release of "Free as a Bird" and "Real Love", Starr commented, "Recording the new songs didn't feel contrived at all, it felt very natural and it was a lot of fun, but emotional too at times. But it's the end of the line, really. There's nothing more we can do as The Beatles."

John Lennon- Real Love (Original Version)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qjO5b4QbEAU&feature=related
Ugh, those two videos...:xoxo:
I LOVE Real Love. When I got the Lennon Anthology I fell in love with this song, just as I had as a young girl hearing it on the Imagine film. The Threetles version is beautiful as well. Really, it's just a stunning, well-crafted masterpiece of a song. John's version is the ideal, and I adore Regina Spektor's cover, which is very true to the original.
Of the two "new" Beatles songs, though, FAAB was always my favorite. I adored the melody, the singing, and the feeling of the song. I always found the lyrics in the verses a little cliche, but everything else about the song made up for that. Thanks for posting MsLinds. I am such a huge fan of this band and it's incredible to think they could make music with John again...after the fact.

I got in the mail some information about the Steinway & Sons limited edition "Imagine" piano series and I am in serious love. Like, there aren't enough words. I want one. I want one SO bad. I am a pianist (as 3rd World Man is the only one who knew prior to this) and have been considering a new piano purchase for my home. I don't know, man. It's pricey but...so one of a kind and gorgeous. I would just gasp every time I walked in the room.
On a side note. A recent Yoko Q&A response from her Twitter:

That he was a very sweet and sensitive husband at home.

Cibo Matto: The Interview
Yuka and Miho tell Jon Wilks about returning to the stage to support Japan
One of the larger charity events to have taken place in the wake of the March 11 disaster was the Japan Benefit Concert at New York's Columbia University, held on March 27. On a bill that included Yoko Ono, John Zorn, Sonic Youth and Mike Patton, the reunion of Cibo Matto – the influential J-girl duo that grew out of the NYC art scene in the early '90s – gave punters an extra reason to dig into their pockets. A couple of days later, Yoko Ono pulled together a second event, this time featuring the Plastic Ono Band, Patti Smith and, again, Cibo Matto.

^^^I LOVE Cibo Matto. :xoxo: Greatness. Sean being in that band has single-handedly made him cooler than too many people to name.
Ok, check this video out!!! It's Sean and Charlotte with the French singer-songwriter Matthieu Chedid in the video for their cover of the Serge Gainsbourg/Brigitte Bardot class cult classic "Comic Strip." Ok, I love Sean in this video. The original video has always been a favorite package of weird for me- I truly adore Serge and BB soooooo much, and this version is no piss-poor imitation. I think it's mad fun. Sean couldn't be cuter.
As some of us who know GOASTT well are aware, the song is found on their La Carotte Blue disc, and others who know Sean solo well are aware of his collaborations with Matthieu Chedid (love them together).
Soooooo...enjoy this vid and the article that precedes it (yay for Carrie Fisher's house!)

I really love Julian's music (own it all) and his voice is AMAZING. He's a truly lovely guy and certainly the most popular Beatle kid in terms of the general public. Anyway, there is a lot of Julian these days that reminds me of his dad physically, and of course there's tons about his personality and the coolness that he penetrates sometimes that is very John. He's quite a fantastic guy in terms of his various talents and humanitarian work. And I won't lie...I'd die for him and Sean to work together.

COLD by Julian Lennon
I've read the headlines covering your wall,
a thousand lifetimes, you must have lived them all,
we took our chances, I love the way you fall.
Over there, I see you over there,
tossed around the sun,
I can feel you everywhere tonight.
Don't leave me cold,
living life without you - cold,
dreams don't always come true - cold,
everything we've been through,
don't leave me cold.
You are the flower, growing in my hand,
hour by hour, the more I understand,
a million colors, of woman and a man.
Over there, I see you over there,
tossed around the sun,
I can feel you everywhere tonight.
Don't leave me cold,
living life without you - cold,
dreams don't always come true - cold,
everything we've been through,
don't leave me cold.
Over there, I see you over there,
tossed around the sun,
I can feel you everywhere tonight.
Don't leave me cold,
living life without you - cold,
dreams don't always come true - cold,
everything we've been through,
don't leave me cold.
Don't leave me cold,
living life without you - cold,
dreams don't always come true - cold,
everything we've been through,

 Thank you MsLinds. My high school girlfriends and I (whom I haven't seen since...well, life happened after high school) decided to do a road trip to AROTR. We are all Beatles stans, and my one friend in particular loves them so much that that is the only music she plays to her kids basically. So it should be nice.
I so am the kind of person to trek across the world for concerts, though I'm not sure I'd do it for GOASTT unless they were the main show, as I love the Flaming Lips and recognize their brilliant and artistic concerts but am not IN LOVE with them like that. ;)
Anyway, I really hope to see them (The GOASTT) in concert soon, as it was such an incredible show. I also want a new Sean solo album.

Thats great your both be going to that Nelsonville,Festival. Thanks Nico for posting those larger photographs here. The Goastt is scheduled to perform there on Saturday May 14th.You guys can buy just a one day ticket for the day if you wanted to.So you can watch the Goastt and Flaming Lips and all the other bands for that day.If you don't want to go all 3 days or the entire weekend. The Goastt has concerts scheduled for that friday before the festival and the next day sunday in other citys.I'm looking forward to some photographs of the festival. If at all possible, you don't want wait to long to buy your tickets.Because this information about the Goastt at Nelsonville is going to end on Facebook pretty soon and other message boards.I don' t know how quickly this festival will sell out.But I know the Flaming Lips must be a very popular band. The tickets to see the performances of the Goastt with Flaming Lips.Sold out completely in one day.Its still like a month away. But I have a feeling these tickets could sell out even before the festival.Everyone have a safe, positive and great upcoming week and take care.

What a fantastic thing Yoko is doing. This lady rocks hard. I don't care how many people want to hate her, she doesn't sit around and just live off her money. She's out there doing stuff and continuing the message she and her husband once did together.
Ugh, I am SO getting that book. There's a few books I still have on my wishlist pertaining to John- not a lot but there are some pretty good ones there. The "John and Yoko: A New York Love Story" is my major, major want. I could just buy it this second, but I have NO IDEA where to get it- MsLinds? :)
Found this pretty awesome interview with John and Yoko where they receive some calls from people on WPLJ New York City radio station in June of 1971. I thought it was cute and located in the interview is the famous quote by John:
"I don't regret anything I've done, apart from maybe hurting other people..."
He sounds a little more sedate/quiet than usual here, which could be because he's sick (there's a part in here where he excuses himself to throw up), but he still sounds like John. So I thought I'd share with you guys.
Here is the page where the link in found (http://thebathroomwindow.com/?p=390)

Yoko Ono is in the midst of a critical and popular comeback at the age of 78 — she reunited the*Plastic Ono Band for a series of star-studded shows last year, was a featured speaker at SXSW last month and recently scored her sixth consecutive No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot Dance Club chart. The notorious artist, musician, cultural scapegoat, social activist, mother and widow of John Lennon has, with the grace of time, found a new generation of fans that are open to her avant-garde take on music, melody, art and life.

Incredible. I have read the letter, as it was posted a few years ago in full. I think that, at the time, they were all rather pissed at each other. And we all know John was the last one to hold back, eh? I love it. I'm excited for this book as it will be an incredible treasure trove. Wow, seriously? Blood poisoning?? Ugh, poor Julian. :distress: That is not good at all. I recall glimpsing past his page a few months ago and women were on about him being so sick. The Last Days Of John Lennon by Fred Seaman. I haven't really read much of it yet…but what I have flipped by looks very, ummm, interesting:o There are quite a few px of John with both Julian and Sean at different times, and many I've never seen before. For some reason, the name Fred Seaman conjures up something fishy, not sure why…any thoughts on that, or this book on John?

The Last Days Of John Lennon by Fred Seaman. I haven't really read much of it yet…but what I have flipped by looks very, ummm, interesting:o There are quite a few px of John with both Julian and Sean at different times, and many I've never seen before. For some reason, the name Fred Seaman conjures up something fishy, not sure why…any thoughts on that, or this book on John?
I read this book. And I would be very weary about every word written in there. Fred Seaman was a trusted personal assistant to John and Yoko (specifically John) whose aunt was Sean's nanny. Not only did Fred backstab the Lennon family after John's death, but he lied considerably about things like John's diary supposedly intended to go to Julian via Fred if anything were to happen to John. That diary was in the man's possession for YEARS and he never gave it to Julian (but had no problem sharing it with random others through the years).
He had a vendetta against Yoko and paints their relationship far shadier than necessary. He was sued by Yoko in 2003 (I believe) and lost. Many of the things he took from that family were returned. Many but not everything. Apparently Fred felt that since he took pics of John, Yoko, Julian, and Sean on his own time that those pics were his- but how creepy is that?
Anyway, he's another one who paints John as sort of a bipolar type of person, with a tendency to starve himself and dabble in drugs on occasion.
Funnily enough, there is no actual proof to any of these drug allegations Fred, Albert Goldman, Geoffrey Guilano, and the like have made in their hatchet-jobs. When John died, there was not found in his system a trace of anything except caffeine and nicotine. Obviously, he was an alarmingly thin guy. But he was also a strict macrobiotic and had a pretty bad relationship with food. He was extremely hurt and affected by the comment made in 1965 referring to him as the "Fat Beatle" and he never recovered from it. Everyone who followed the Beatles just saw John get smaller and smaller from that point on.
Fred comes off as a "decent" guy in this book, and it's obvious he had a lot of affection/love for John and liked Julian and Sean but he isn't the most trustworthy individual. I can actually post some responses from Yoko, Cynthia, Paul, George, and George Martin regarding the Albert Goldman book and how horribly twisted and incorrect much of, if not all, that piece of crap is. And Fred (as well as May Pang) was an informant of Goldman's.
Read the book, though, and tell us what YOU think. I would love to know.
source: http://www.hindustantimes.com/I-am-like-Lennon-Lady-Gaga/Article1-687819.aspx
As some of you know, Gaga is a HUGE fan of John's. A year or so ago she made the statement that if she had been around in the late 60's Yoko would have to watch her back. She constantly wears the "Lennon" glasses, referred to him as her "most favorite songwriter" right before delving into her own cover of Imagine, and lovingly joined Yoko and Sean on stage for the POB/John Lennon tribute. She's a John stan plain and simple. And here is a little snippet of what she said about him recently:
I AM LIKE LENNON: LADY GAGA
Pop singer Lady Gaga has likened herself to Beatles legend John Lennon because she too is "perpetually unhappy" with her finished products. The Bad Romance hitmaker admits she struggles with such strong bouts of perfectionism that she finds it almost impossible to be satisfied with the fina
l outcome of her songs - just like the late Beatles star, reports dailystar.co.uk.
"I am perpetually unhappy with what I create. Even though I might tell you that song Edge Of Glory is a pop masterpiece, when it's all said and finished there will be things I dread, and every time I listen to it I'll hear them," she said.
"In John Lennon's Playboy magazine interview he had talked about how he hated certain songs because of the way they were finished. And they might be my favourite songs, but Lennon couldn't listen to them," she added.
What do you know, she made a fair statement.
Some tokens of Gaga's affection for Johnny Rhythm:

Thanks Nico for the article about Lady Gaga and her feelings about her music connection with John.I have not read that book Nico or 3rd World Man.I have read and heard that Fred Seaman was a thief and was sued by Yoko to get back the personal items he took without permisson or asking for them.He stole things from the Dakota that belonged to John and Yoko.He may sound like a nice guy in the book and claims he was fond of and had affection for them. But he was untrustworthy and said a lot of things about John and Yoko etc in the book that is wrong, lies and distortions. I believe Yoko's word over his on this matter.

This is the first place I am posting this information I just found out about.Sean and Charlotte and Yoko will be performing at the River to River Festival this June 2011
The Village Voice
April 21, 2011
The 5 Best (Free!) Shows at River to River Festival 2011
This year's River to River Festival, which runs from June 19 to July 17, marks the 10th time that its mix of free shows takes over Lower Manhattan for the summer. The 2011 bill has a decidedly New York-centric bent, with Patti Smith, Laurie Anderson, Rufus Wainwright, and the New York City Opera all on the roster. While the heavyweights are all well and good, the festival's real value is found when browsing the so-called "small text" artists, such as Lower Dens and The Wake. Five shows you shouldn't miss, after the jump.
Bang on a Can Marathon, June 19 @ the World Financial Center Winter Garden
This 13-hour show will kick the festivities off in style. Spanning 13 hours, the marathon will include Phillip Glass with the Bang on a Can All-Stars, Bryce Dessner of the National, and the Asphalt Orchestra performing songs by David Byrne/Annie Clark, Yoko Ono, and Frank Zappa, among other acts.
The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger, June 24 @ South Street Seaport
Ignore the idiosyncratic name and focus on the participants: this collaboration between Sean Lennon and Charlotte Kemp Muhl lives off beautiful harmonies and flowing melodies. The promise of "special guests," given Lennon's family connections, is also fairly enticing.

Yoko Ono has thrown her support behind the Non-Violence Project and unveiled her interpretation of the organisation's iconic knotted gun symbol in memory of her late husband, John Lennon. The Non-Violence Project's signature logo, a gun with a knotted barrel, was created by Carl Fredrik Reutersward as a symbol of peace after the Beatles legend was gunned down in New York in December, 1980.

Snap Galleries Exhibition Reveals Unidentified Characters in Beatles Abbey Road Session
LONDON.- There is Paul Cole. An American tourist who happened to be on vacation in London in August 1969. You might find him familiar somehow. As he walked around the streets of St John’s Wood waiting for his wife that day, he stumbled across four guys being photographed on a zebra crossing. He watched for a while as they went there and back again. And again. And again. That’s how he was captured for posterity on one of the most famous photographs of all time - the the cover of the Beatles’ Abbey Road LP, standing to the left of John Lennon’s head on the album sleeve.

George Martin Reflects On The Beatles
(Gibson) One can forgive Sir George Martin for not doing too much press these days. The former Beatles producer and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, who turned 85 earlier this year, has not produced an album since 2006's Beatles mash-up, Love, for Cirque du Soleil. Beyond that, he's answered every conceivable question about his former colleagues one could ask. But with a new documentary set to air on the BBC, Martin sat down with The Independent to talk about his career, and yes, in particular, those magical days with the Fab Four.

Thanks MsLinds. :wavey:
I read a little about George Martin's reflections and how he was a bit pi$$ed that John stated he wanted to re-record ALL the Beatles songs (including Strawberry Fields which is MY personal fave) and...I understand where John was coming from. Really brilliant people are never fully satisfied with their work. (Unless you're Paul McCartney, of course, who always seems beyond pleased with everything he's ever done.) I think John had a restless spirit, and a fast mind. He probably envisioned something in his mind and when the final product fell short. Even if the final product is the greatest song to ever be set to record, it fell short he was somewhat disappointed. That was John for you. I think a lot of people don't "get" that and most of those people aren't necessarily artists to the degree that John was. As much as I will be criticized for saying this, Lady Gaga had it right when she exclaimed she isn't always satisfied with her work, though she knows it's good the work falls short of her expectations. John was this and more so.
Also, I have Seth Swirsky music! He's great. And I believe they will be showing his documentary at Abbey Road On The River. I hope you and 3rd World Man decide what you want from AROTR from me. I want to share something with the two other biggest Beatles/John fans on the Ledge. :)

I feel you George, but get over it for goodness sakes. There's not much John can do to apologize for your hurt feelings now. ;) (And besides, I understand John's POV completely so I doubt he'd bother with an apology- but probably a cup of tea.)

Interview with Yoko Ono Lennon
Yoko Ono. What else is there to say? A woman who needs no introduction. A woman who was in love with the most significant musician in the world. When the press was released that Yoko Ono would be performing in Austin, TX with her Plastic Ono Band for SXSW I immediately jumped at this opportunity to see something that billions would not. Not only did Ono perform, but she also was a keynote speaker for Austin's music/film festival that generated more than one million people to town. Ms. Ono has had numerous consecutive dance singles ranking at #1 on the top of the Billboard Dance Chart. She also was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by Mojo magazine. Aside from her achievements she was also an inspiration to many songs from The Beatles, such as Abbey Road's "Because" that was written due to Lennon watching Yoko play Beethoven's "Moonlight backwards.

Wanna Buy John Lennon’s Home Studio?
Just like many musos of today, John Lennon had a home studio that he liked to tinker around in and make the odd record, such as Imagine. Hence, he had a pretty good collection of vintage recording gear which is set to go up for auction online on 11th May. The gear was installed at his Georgian manor house estate at Tittenhurst Park, near Ascot, in 1970 after the break up of The Beatles, and was used to record not just demos, but his early solo releases.

Beatles' Strawberry Fields gates removed
The ornate iron gates of a children's home which inspired John Lennon's psychedelic Beatles anthem Strawberry Fields Forever have been removed. The Salvation Army, which owns the former home, is putting the red Victorian gates into storage. It means Beatles fans who pass the Woolton site on bus tours will now be met with 10ft (3m) high replicas.
I saw someone posted on the Beatles Universe Facebook page. That Writer and Promoter Sam Leach is asking for all Beatles fans to prevent this sale.Maybe someone will start a petition drive etc and with enough opposition.A sale won't happen.I don't want those gates sold. They need to be preserved and at least put in some sort of museum or somewhere and kept safe and secure for history and future generations

I will sign any petition. Look man, "Strawberry Fields Forever" is my all-time most favorite song. It's a dreamy escape into pure musical bliss. There is nothing that can touch the singular perfection of that song. No Hey Jude, no Yesterday...SFF is the song that made me recognize WHY this band was so revered, so unique, and so wonderful. It's not the singalong ballads, it was the cutting-edge, absolutely one-of-a-kind stuff like "Walrus," "Tomorrow Never Knows," "A Day In The Life," and "Rain." I love soooooo many more of their songs, but SFF is a landmark in popular music that has the Beatles firmly positioned on the throne that belongs only to them.
How DARE they!!!!

Are the Beatles responsible for music's digital growth in 2011?
May 12, 2011
Nielsen announced yesterday that music sales in the US are up 1.6% in 2011. 1.6% might not seem like a whole lot, but for the embattled music industry, any growth is good news. Interestingly, Nielsen seems to ascribe the growth of music sales to The Beatles' deal with Apple. As Nielsen says in its report, "Catalog album sales are up 5.4 percent in 2011, thanks in part to a long-awaited 2010 deal allowing digital distribution of The Beatles' albums for the first time." The Fab Four's music exclusively went on sale on iTunes in November to much fanfair.

Beatle John Lennon's time at Tittenhurst Park in Ascot
With one of the most famous songs of all time recorded there, as well as a landmark album and two films, it is surprising that John Lennon only lived at Tittenhurst Park in Ascot for two years. The picture of Lennon singing Imagine in a white room on a white piano is one of the most famous images of the Beatles star.
And his second solo album of the same name, recorded in a home-built studio within the Ascot mansion's grounds, features the controversial and vitriolic How Do You Sleep, supposedly aimed at Paul McCartney.

Abrams has just published a gorgeous little photo book, “Strawberry Fields,” devoted to one of the most moving and useful memorials that I know of — the 5.3 acres of Central Park that was restored and landscaped in memory of John Lennon. The musician loved New York City intensely and made his home in one of the city’s most historic apartment buildings — the Dakota on Central Park West.

Recap of Day 2 of the Nelsonville Music Festival
Torrential downpours throughout the second day of the Nelsonville Music Festival could not prevent an eccentric superstar from stealing the show.
Wayne Coyne won the crowd over with oversized confetti-filled balloons, a space bubble and butterfly kings despite a late arrival that pushed many of the earlier shows back. The Flaming Lips' buses arrived around 9 a.m. when they were originally supposed to arrive around 6 a.m., and their complicated stage set-up meant that it needed to be completed before the other shows could begin.Coyne was omnipresent throughout the day, making a point of seeing other shows. Post reporters spotted Coyne checking out fellow Oklahoman Samantha Crain's act in the No-Fi Cabin and popped up on the side of the main stage during The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger and Yo La Tengo. The Lips' frontman expressed his pleasure at the day's festivities throughout the band's set, saying several times that he wanted to return."Whenever we play a festival, we're usually the weirdest ones there," Coyne said. "Today, we fit right in."Sean Lennon, frontman of The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger, also expressed interest in returning to the festival after fans begged for an encore that the band, whose 19-year-old drummer was performing his second show, was not prepared to play.

Concert Review: Flaming Lips take Fillmore fans on a trip
DETROIT — Local fans have waited awhile for Flaming Lips' return. And they wound up waiting awhile longer on Friday night (May 13) at the Fillmore Detroit. The show's start was delayed 45 minutes (with doors opening an hour late) by the late arrival of New York-based opening act The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger, whose frontman -- John and Yoko's son Sean Lennon -- has enough juice to still get the group a full sound check. That left the crowd standing out on Woodward Avenue to catch sounds coming from the Tigers game at Comerica Park, but fortunately the Lips' fans, a docile and patient bunch by nature, were content to while away the extra time on the sidewalk.

As a blast from the past, I just heard T-Rex's "Metal Guru" (from The Slider album)...
...anyone else think it sounds WAY too close to John's "Instant Karma" for comfort??
You know, I never heard it until you mentioned. There's definitely some similarities. I love both songs so much, especially "Instant Karma." The drumming on both is fabulous.
MsLinds,
The GOASTT show was brilliant but very short. They played only 4 songs. The weather was absolutely awful. I got pics and 3rd World Man got video. I'm going to share all of it soon. So many people were blown away by Sean's musical abilities. Everything was plugged-in and very different than the intimate show I saw in Atlanta. I really, really love GOASTT plugged-in. Probably more than acoustic. Sean is just...AMAZING. He played that guitar out. And the song "Last Call" is now a favorite.
There was no encore. They had just gotten a new drummer two days prior and he hadn't learned all the songs yet, so Sean apologized. A lot of people were let down, but I get what Sean meant. It's not fair to just throw out a song without giving band members prior notice when they're so new. And we all know everyone was digging the fast stuff, so I don't think Sean was into doing an acoustic.
They both looked great. It was raining horribly, mud was everywhere. Wayne Coyne came out to watch Sean (so cute!) and the Flaming Lips crew threw a giant balloon out during one of the numbers. It got stuck in a tree.
I really want a GOASTT show with a full set-list. These festivals short-change some super awesome acts. Anyway, pics to come!!
Also, msLinds, I got the sampler CD when I purchased a GOASTT concert tee. Ugh, the people at the counter had no idea who the GOASTT were and I almost didn't get the shirt or sampler (I had to point to it myself, forgetting what the cover looked like- thank goodness Sean has such a distinctive style of drawing because I wouldn't have known otherwise).

Ghost Of A Saber Tooth Tiger
When Paranormal Meets Prehistoric
It's clear that Sean Lennon shares with his famed parents a passion for eccentricities. So it's only natural he would end up with another quirky character, model Charlotte Kemp Muhl, a gifted songwriter and singer. They sing acoustic songs whimsically about the past, love, outer space and, according to Lennon, "modern things like the end of the world." Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger's debut album Acoustic Sessions, was released on the duo's label chimera records.
Before they kick off their tour opening for the flaming lips, Real Detroit caught up with the fascinating Sean Lennon.

The Good: The night got started with a 30-minute set by Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger. Fronted by Sean Lennon, the band’s sonic delivery was a bit different than the last time they were in town. Instead of a duo performing mostly acoustically like they did at the Evening Muse earlier this year, the group was now a quintet with drums, electric guitar and more of a punch.

Nearing her octogenarian years, YOKO ONO releases “Move on Fast” as part of her ongoing dance remix series. All the while, she continues to value everything which is natural, which is infinite, which is yes.You can forget many things in the sixties. You might even want to forget that the Vietnam War happened. But surely, you won’t forget The Beatles and the woman blamed for breaking them up—Yoko Oh-no—so the pun goes. But at 78, she remains unstoppable in embracing everything affirmative. Today, she tells me, “Living in this world was always tough for everybody. So why not try to make it better by saying yes? Relive Paul McCartney’s high, high, highs and low, low lows
Paul McCartney wrote “When I’m Sixty-Four” in his mid-teens, at a time when the idea of actually turning 64 years of age must’ve seemed impossibly far off. In the song, he imagined one’s senior years with a quaint nostalgia, emphasized by the vaudeville/music hall flavor of the melody, depicting an old couple thriftily economizing to get by and enjoying life’s simple pleasures: grandchildren and that lovely cottage on the Isle of Wight.

James McCartney On World Cafe May 18, 2011
As son of Paul McCartney, the former Beatle and one of the most commercially successful songwriters of all time, it should come as no surprise that James McCartney has the music in him. The singer, songwriter and sculptor has been involved with his father's career for some time, contributing to solo albums and even accompanying Sir Paul on tour.
