I was listening to an old boot of Beauty and the Beast from a show in 89' today and I could swear she was crying at certain points so I started to think of other emotional moments from our girl.

I think the best known one is Silver Springs during The Dance when Lindsey had to finish the song for her because she was too emotional. Here's the audio but to my knowledge no video exists :(.
http://www.mediafire.com/?yxd43kojo2v55qd

Here are some videos of emotional performances of BATB and HEAWAFY.

So please post your audio or video of Stevie's most emotional moments. I would love to hear and/or see!

The "Landslide" video actually linked to "Has Anyone Every Written Anything For You.

But thank you for the mp3! I would adore seeing a video if anybody could find it. Even just to see how Lindsey reacted to that situation.

Don't worry about it. They were both beautiful videos. And bless her heart! Did you want to cuddle her during her tearful moments too? I did. I would adore just having some time with this classy and graceful lady to sit and talk about everything and nothing. Just unburden ourselves guilt free. It would be beautiful.

I just want her to hold me and tell me everything's going to be o.k.. :o

Why the blush, honey? That's nothing to be embarassed about. It's one of my wishes too *hugs*.

The 1981 Rhiannon seems to be very special to Stevie:

Yes, I am familiar with this one and it is epic! And can I just add that this is the period (WH era) when Stevie was the most beautiful she's ever been in my eyes. There's just something about that time - she wasn't so innocent and hippie/girly like the 70's and not yet showing the effects of her drug use. Not that I don't love her during all eras but this one is to me the most alluring and truly angelic (with just a hint of devil). Sexy, sassy, classy as I like to say. I guess your definition of beauty changes with age and experience but I don't think it's a coincidence that I'm just about the same age as she was here.

I am sitting here with tear streaks down my face. These performances were so beautiful, on a deep level.
I just felt like grabbing her up and hugging her (I think someone else said that as well).
Does anyone know if there is audio available of the entire Symphony concert? I would love to have it in it's entirety, so I could obsess over it for several years!!

Does anybody know of a video of Goodbye Baby performed on the SYW tour that is particulary emotional? I saw the show 5 times and know she was particularly sad during one of them but can't remember which.

One more for now. A little background first - Storms has always been a particularly special song to me as I'm sure it has been to many of you. In the years leading up to 2009 FM hadn't done Storms live and it was the song that was at the top of my list to hear Stevie sing. Well in anticipation of the Unleashed tour I refused to look at the set list or reviews because I wanted to be completely surprised (as usual) so when I went to my first Unleashed show in Anaheim and she came out in red I almost died and knew somehow she was going to sing Storms to me and I was right ~and therein my life changed ~

This is one of the best performances of the tour from NYC:

Reno is the one where she asked Lindsey to take over the song.

For most emotional, I liked the BTM where she says she hopes Lindsey can find it in his heart to make music with her again. Of course, she might not have been that emotional in that one. Maybe it was my most emotional!

The Red Rocks version of BATB is particularly emotional to me. It's also my fav version of the song. It's not on YouTube, but you can watch it here (http://vodpod.com/watch/1374240-stevie-nicks-beauty-and-the-beast-live-red-rocks-1986). The wails are beautiful, and the "tell her now" at about 6:03 kills me every time.

Oh - and now that I'm thinking about it, her performance of "Insider" with Tom Petty on the Gatorville DVD is really moving:

And we can't forget "Say Goodbye" on Lindsey's Soundstage DVD:

A particularly emotional performance that comes to mind is Landslide, from Irvine in 1982...

It was at a City Of Hope benefit, just after Robin died. :(

At the end she says "I know she's here" and you can tell she's crying.

So sad :(

HBO White wing dove concert, Stevie looked to be struggling to hold back the tears [quivering], while singing Rhiannon. She ended up bursting into tears at the end of that performance. Actually her emotions were all over the place at her final show, excited & happy one minute, then sad the next. BTW thanks again Sahara:wavey::thumbsup:

She showed some very endearing emotion on the opening night of the 'Enchanted' tour in Hartford in '98. I believe she had just turned 50 the same week, but I may be off a little on the date. She had some nerves, a little stagefright that night and talked about it, and it was sweet. She looked especially beautiful that night. Edit: 2 hours later- oddly, unpacking a box, mispacked, I found the ticket-stub, May 27, 1998- so it was one day after she turned 50.
I do think most of her 'emotional' performances were back in the '80s, I think for the majority of the 90s and since, her stage presence has been a lot more 'in control' and she doesn't often let herself go with her emotions the way she did early in her career.

She actually LAUGHED at herself once. Sorry, I don't have the audio - It was definitely on Youtube though. It was the late 70s, I think, and they were doing Landslide and she starts losing it, starting to cry - and she laughs at herself at the same time like, "OH geez I'm losing it again this is SO ridiculous! :( "

My personal opinion is that her most emotionally intense performance, both for her and the audience, was Beauty and the Beast in Las Vegas, August, 2005.
"One for the record books."

Not sure this was the same show or not but it was mid 80's in Irvine Calif. During the edge walk someone took one her rings off her finger. (accidental?) After the song she came back on stage nearly in tears and said one of her rings came off. She said, it is very dear to me as it was my grandmothers/grandfathers (?) if you have it please give it back! My mouth dropped, I felt soooo bad for her! She then completes the setlist! At the end of the show, with a huge smile on her face says, Thank You, thank you! I'll be dammed, someone did give it back!!!! Anyone else there?

That was a good show!
I was real close at that show (and on crutches). Toward the end of the show she was getting angry because the sound on stage had changed and she did not like it. Lots of side glances to the technician and to Frank (isn't that his name...guitar player) with a 'WTF' expression on her face. At one point, as she was walking from the wings to take the stage for Edge, before the stage lights hit her, she was muttering to herself and wouldn't look at the tech. You could see that she was pissed off.

This video was the first that sprang to mind for me! And I totally agree with what you're saying.'The Wild Heart' is such a fitting phrase for this period in her life/career. There are moments during this time where you can just hear her heart break while she's singing. It just makes her performances all the more alluring and amazing.

You two are cracking me up. I was kind of obsessed with this version for a long time and listened to it quite often when alone in the car. Both the "tell her now" and the 5:44 wail still choke me up. I used to actually anticipate both those moments in the song. Hee- dork.

I do miss seeing that much emotion in Stevie. Drugs or no drugs, it could not be possible to sing the same songs over and over and bring forth such unrestrained expressiveness. Frankly, I can't imagine how she does it after all these years. But back in the day, she meant that **** when she was singing it.

I think that it's really important for an artist to be able to slice open old wounds and not destroy themselves. I know that as a writer, I'm constantly forcing myself to be a little more honest with myself than I want to be... and that often means that I have to "talk" about something that I don't want to. Every time I read over something I've written, it all happens again. So if Stevie feels the same way that I do about writing, I'm guessing that she used to allow herself to be susceptible to her music, to be in its grasp when she performed, not the other way around.... I think she's lost that.

Reading some of these posts is making me a little sad guys...
I didn't really think of it when I started this thread but the bottom line is that I have never and will never see that emotional side of Stevie that she put forth throughout most of the 80's (not live anyways). Her most memorable moments on stage seem to be from the BD, WH, and RAL periods (with the exception of a few crazy Rhiannons in the late 70's) and it's just a shame that I was too young at that point to be going to concerts (and the ones I did go to were my mom's choice) but also too young to have appreciated the Goddess-like creature that is Stevie Nicks. The Stevie I have seen this decade is a far cry from the past :(. I'm sure age and repetition has a lot to do with it but do you guys think she's still capable of giving an emotionally charged performance these days or is that just too much to ask for? I'm not complaining about her performances by any means or expecting her to dance across the stage or scream like she's possessed, I'm just wondering what you guys think about the topic of robot Stevie...

So for any of you that did see Stevie live in the 80's please feel free to share some stories so we can live vicariously through you! If only I could go back in time I would have chosen to see Stevie's RAL tour over Michael Jackson's Thriller tour!

Well that could be interpreted in 2 different ways - "not there" meaning high as a kite on coke and booze or "not there" in terms of being a zombie/robot.

I have seen moments (very brief and only visible to the trained eye-lol) where it seems as though she is somewhat taken over with emotion. I think that Stevie at some point, felt as though she needed and wanted to be taken seriously as a performer and a song writer. She gained control of herself, worked very hard, and had high standards for herself. In all of this (I believe) that she lost much of her spontaneity. I also believe that the way *I* dance and carry myself is much more restrained vs. my younger days. Maybe her changing appearance has made her feel more self conscious about how she looks when she's performing. If you watch the way she danced in the early days (70s and 80s) she was very unrestrained in her movements. As she got older (and a bit larger) her dancing took on a more controlled, almost awkward, vibe.

Do I think that Stevie is capable of a emotional and passionate live performance of Rhiannon? I'm sure she is, but I would imagine there would have to be some behind the scene, out of the norm, circumstance going on.

^Wrong! I was there, and she was completely invested and very aware of and almost in love with the audience! Sure, she had a good buzz going on, but her performance was filled with prescence and being in the moment. It's actually one of her best filmed concert performances. That night, was the best 'How Still My Love' she ever did. I have (albeit on old vhs) her entire US Festival performance, and she is 'so there' it's chilling!
Sure, some of her between songs comments are spacey, but they're coherent. On the RAL tour she at times lapsed into incoherence- At the US Festival and for the Wild Heart tour, she may have been flying, but she was still giving great performances and wasn't obliterated.

Reno is the one where she asked Lindsey to take over the song.

For most emotional, I liked the BTM where she says she hopes Lindsey can find it in his heart to make music with her again. Of course, she might not have been that emotional in that one. Maybe it was my most emotional!

Michele

I think it's pretty emotional too...

Landslide - Dec. 7, 1990 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sd6fcI8ZGi4)

And, I don't know if it's "emotional" or just good performing - I love the way she flings her hair during the LIB version of Silver Springs at around 4:34:

My favorite live Dreams performance from 81'. I like to refer to it as the "sweet darlin'" version and I love how's there's a delay before the second verse starts. I know a lot of people wished she'd do away with Dreams these days but not if it sounded like this!

I love US Festival, but she was higher than a kite. So stoned and so in her own world. But like you said earlier, she's always been someone you love to watch on stage. I think her drugged out performances where she is so "not there" are the best because she lets loose and is in her own world and gives these amazing coke fueled performances. But if you are talking in terms of drugged out train wreck performances where you cringe just watching them, I can't think of any.

"Love Is" at the Santa Barbara show. That was definitely emotional, for her and for everyone. It gave me the faith that she still has the capacity to make something really amazing out of her live performances-- if she chooses to embrace that vulnerability and invest the energy.

I get what you're saying and mostly agree with it.
But how would you be feeling, when you turned
to face Lindsey, and saw him staring back at you, and you
started to almost SCREAM at him - -
"I'll FOLLOW you down 'till the SOUND of my VOICE
will HAUNT you!!!" - -

for the seventeen-thousandth time. ??

Exactly. She did it nightly for a while and now she's NEVER doing it. She's gotta find a balance, I think.

I have dreamed of screaming just that to several people throughout my life. Especially the "was I just a fool?" part. Honestly, those might just be the most profound 4 lines Stevie's ever written:
"Time cast a spell on you...but you won't forget me...
(Was I just a fool)
I know I could've loved you, but you would not let me..
(Give me just a chance)
I'll follow you down 'til the sound of my voice will haunt you..
You'll never get away from the sound of the woman that loves you..
(never get away, never get away)"
When I listen to or watch performances of SS sometimes I fast-forward to this part because it hits home soooo badly.

That version is just the best to me. Always will be. It's songs like BATB and performances like that that make me love Stevie. It has such a ring of truth to it that - and y'all know I love the lady, so don't nobody start with the yellin' unless you want to yell about that excellent grammar right there - I don't think she's always able to infuse into the songs she means to be "heartfelt." It's not her trying to be a poet or trying to be esoteric or trying to be all mystic like she sometimes does. It's just her singing about a relationship that just can't work in a way we can all identify with.

ETA due to over-analyzing ahoy because it's 3 AM and my brain won't shut up at such an hour: For example, the "Or at least...I'm trying to change" bit. THAT IS AMAZING. I gained some added understanding of that, that really hit home during the failure of my last relationship - the guy was a good guy, a great guy even, but he needed things from me that I'm just not built to provide. I TRIED to do it for him, because I wanted him to be happy. I TRIED to change. Really hard. But I didn't do it fast enough/well enough to meet what he needed because we were from "different worlds," and so we didn't work out - not because he was a bad guy or his wants were particularly unreasonable, but because they just weren't me. So to me, Stevie sings "I never doubted your beauty...I've changed" so forcefully, because she wants to be able to say "Look! I did it! I did this for you because you are worth it to me!" But you can't change a fundamental personality trait overnight, if at all, no matter how much you might want to at the time, can you? So she has to add, in a quieter, almost spoken manner, as if she's hoping he won't hear it or notice it because it's not part of the main message, "Well, I mean, I'm TRYING to do this for you. You can see that, right? Why can't that be enough?"

Brilliant.

My dream - a clear, high quality, close-up video of the entire Red Rocks 86' show UNCUT. Does such a thing exisit? If you know, tell her now!

If it does, I've never seen it - I wish it did! I do appreciate that during the most powerful moments of the BATB performance, they managed to restrain themselves from sticking in those fake close-up shots & messing it up, though.

Rhiannon from the HBO Special seems pretty emotional.
If she's not acting of course.

Agree, you really had to be there to feel the emotion coming from this song that night! And still all we have is that small clip? I relly want to see the whole song!

A particularly emotional performance that comes to mind is Landslide, from Irvine in 1982...

It was at a City Of Hope benefit, just after Robin died. :(

At the end she says "I know she's here" and you can tell she's crying.

So sad :(

And I'm pretty sure she sings at one point, "I'm still afraid of changing because I built my live around her." Ouch.

Here's the audio for those who haven't heard it:

I have seen moments (very brief and only visible to the trained eye-lol) where it seems as though she is somewhat taken over with emotion. I think that Stevie at some point, felt as though she needed and wanted to be taken seriously as a performer and a song writer.

Agreed. Remember the early 80's MTV interview where the interviewer told her the story of interviewing Pat Benatar and Pat said that someone had said to her "you don't really think they're (the fans) coming here to hear you sing, do you?" At which point the interviewer asked Stevie if anyone had ever said that to her and Stevie, very guardedly said, "noone ever said anything like to me because I was very protected" (by FM). You could feel the vulnerability and self-consciousness just oozing out of her. That whole interview was so candid and Stevie's emotions were so nakedly exposed. I felt like a voyeur watching that interview. It's not a performance per say, but that interview was very emotional to me.

As far as most emotional performances go, I would say, and I'm sure someone has already said this, but at the US festival after Edge when Stevie said with tears in her eyes something like, "if you ever feel like you don't matter just remember, you are the ONLY thing that matters to me."

My favorite live Dreams performance from 81'. I like to refer to it as the "sweet darlin'" version and I love how's there's a delay before the second verse starts. I know a lot of people wished she'd do away with Dreams these days but not if it sounded like this!

P.S. Stevie can call me her sweet darlin' any day. :)

Agreed. For me, that Dreams is simply perfection and unbeateable! Can you imagine if she started singing it like that again, with the sweet darlin' part? I would go nuts!!! Well, more nuts than I already am.

Not on stage but Midnight Wind with John Stewart is my favourite emotional and overall Stevie performance, towards the end it gets like a more restrained live Rhiannon... amazing stuff, goosebump alert!
