View Full Version : If money was no object...

If money and other obligations were no object, would you follow Stevie's 2011 tour from city to city? Why or why not? If anybody has done this, I'd love to hear your experience.

My answer is no. I'm afraid seeing Stevie onstage every night in different cities would lose its luster. The magic would fade some because it would be too familiar. Less is more. I think after a couple of shows I would become more interested in this new town I was in than seeing her concert that night. However, I regret only seeing FM once on the Unleashed tour. I think two shows on one tour is a pretty good amount, maybe three shows if her set list changed night after night. (In all honesty, I'm thankful just to see her once on tour, but if we're talking ideally...)

Now you guys chime in, I may change my answer ;)

Personally, I wouldn't. I saw Fleetwood Mac 3 times during the Say You Will tour, and each show was about 6 months apart. I can honestly say by the time the third show rolled around, much of the magic had worn off for me. The same staged, memorized speeches in between songs, the same setlist, same outfits, etc. I would go see multiple shows again if neat venues were involved, though. For instance, I would kill to see Stevie at Red Rocks, or even the Santa Barbara Bowl. I just think seeing the same exact show night in and night out would really be dull, though.

The only way I would do it is if I was part of her entourage and she actually knew I existed. So therefore, no I would not.
"Something you don't touch because it hurts too much".
That pretty much sums it up.

Honestly, I'll be shocked if I do one show on the tour. It might be different if the fan base were as close knit as other bands and Stevie (also true for others in the band, BTW) mixed up the set a bit more.

I'd be bored stiff after about three shows.

I'd use the money to 'convince' Christine to record a Blues album with Bonnie Raitt and Peter Green.

That's why I haven't seen Stevie since '05... same sh!t, different day. I will go see her once whenever she releases her new album, though. I do love hearing new music live!

Having attended a number of Unleashed shows, I would totally do it again! Yes, the show is pretty much the same from night to night; however, there are subtle differences that make each show special. But I have to admit that my fondest memories were around the romance of travel- just darting around from city to city like a wayward gypsy and seeing/experiencing new things. As such, if she did a three-month tour of Kansas, I would probably pass... but if the travel itinerary is interesting and fits in with my schedule, I would totally do it. I would love it if she would tour Australia again- it would give me an excuse to do some more exploration down under!

No, I wouldn't follow a Stevie tour, but definitely FM.

I'd be bored, since Nothing Ever Changes. Well, except things get dropped. By the third night, my interest would revolve on whether she'd wear suede platforms or black pleather sneakers with sequins on the toes.

Hell Yeah! If money were no object and I had front row center, I am there! Granted, the set list would be the same show after show, but for me it is Stevie, the band, and the audience that I am experiencing and there are differences from show to show. Plus, if money were no object... why not?

Oh, and yes, I would have to get into her entourage or at least get Landslide dedicated to me to make it extra special. :) or a photo op where I get more than just a passing moment and a chance to talk to her for more than 5 min.

.... oh, wait.. the dream is over? What? Oh yeah, back to reality.

If money and other obligations were no object, would you follow Stevie's 2011 tour from city to city? Not today, but there were big tours in the distant past I'd have definitely followed if I had had the opportunity--the 1983 Wild Heart Tour, for one.

If anybody has done this, I'd love to hear your experience.Torri followed a couple of tours awhile back, didn't she? And Bill Gamelson always bragged that he followed the 1991 Timespace Tour. I used to tell him, "Only an unhinged idiot like you would camp-follow the 1991 tour."

Absolutely!
Though she may not change the set list, I would appreciate the very change of a note, or one lyric each night. I am a huge obsessive music listener, and would notice the tiniest change in a phrase, or tempo. So, in a way, the songs would be different each night.
I love Stevie, and would follow her in a New York minute!!

If money totally was not an issue, and it would have not to be to do it the way I'd want to...
Yes, I'd see every show.

I would rather see Stevie each tour, just one show. That's where the magic is, as she says - that concert is your time from me.

I'm sure I'll go to several. Not sure exactly how many, probably somewhere between 5-10.:)

Stevie solo, maybe not, though I'd see a few shows. Fleetwood Mac or Lindsey, I'd see as many as I possibly could. I'd want to make a connection with the band, see if they'd recognise me from one night to the next, see if they'd care or appreciate that I kept showing up. I get the impression that it wouldn't make any difference to Stevie, but Lindsey and the others, more so.

No, I wouldn't. It would be like watching the same movie three nights a week for several months.

Absolutely. :)

If/when she tours next year, I'll try to hit as many shows as I feasibly can. Who knows..... if it's summer, I won't be teaching most of the time, so.....

My interest in seeing Stevie Nicks in concert would take a backseat to just meeting fellow Ledgies at pre-concert get togethers. So, if I had Bill Gates-type finances, then sure, I'd follow the tour just to see how many of y'all I'd meet over the course of the tour...the concert itself would most likely bore me to tears. Now, a Fleetwood Mac tour, I'd probably get into seeing them for a while before the boredom would set in.

If I was going to the concerts "just for the music", I'd follow the Allman Bros Band instead....no two shows are alike...even if they played the same songs, they never play them the same way twice.

Yes absolutely IF she tours Australia next yr, It kills me that i have never seen Stevie solo. I have only had the pleasure seeing F/M live 2 times the first back in 1977 & their 09 Unleashed tour. Everyday I regret this huge gap , & i really dont know why they fell off my radar for so long. But if it wasn't for hooking up to the internet for the first time in 08, that night for old times sake i googled F/Mac, & thank goodness for youtube!! though nobody told me how addictive it can be watching & listening to Stevie's awesome songs & interviews. So yes if money was no object, i would travel around my country or better still go to every state in the USA.. Now i just need to win lotto:blob2:

If money were no object I would totally go to all of Stevie's shows, just because I could. I won't give a ding dong about seeing the same thing every night.

Seeing that money is an object for me I have been giving next years tour some serious thought. I've decided that I will go to 3 shows, 2 that are within reasonable driving distance and either the opening or closing show.

For the SYW tour I only saw FM in Atlanta. For Unleashed I went to Atlanta and New Orleans. I expected the New Orleans show to be super special because it was the last show... but turned out it wasn't the last show. Stevie gave us a special treat with the New Orleans song but other than that I thought she appeared totally exhausted. I'm still glad I went. I had never been to New Orleans before and it was very humbling to see the effects Katrina had on the city and the ongoing recovery efforts. Another humbling or should I say humiliating thing was throwing up red drink on the trolly. Note: Big cups full of icy red stuff that is super sugary with a splash of alcohol is not a good idea in the middle of the hot ass day.

LouieLouie said the venue would make the difference, and I have to agree. It would be a dream to see her perform at a place like Red Rocks! And if money was no concern, I'd fly there in a heartbeat.

On her next tour, I plan to see her at least twice, but I may shoot for three times if she plays three shows in my state. If for some wild reason her tour didn't hit Florida, I'd absolutely travel anywhere in the country to see her tour :] Can anybody tell I'm excited? And the album is still being recorded. Ha.

I like this answer. The subtleties would be enormous in memory. I think it's awesome you've done it :)

I notice that listening to live recordings, too! Never gets old to hear a new oohh or as you said, the tiniest change in lyric or so forth.

We can always hope. I mean, we did get lucky with the Unleashed tour having dates for England (Yay for Manchester!) so you never know. I'm willing to bankrupt myself of the very little I have by way of money to see her if she gets over the giant puddle lol.

I don't think FM touring the UK for Unleashed was too much of a surprise, I don't think they've ever done a world tour and not visited the UK (since Rumours). I do wonder why Stevie hasn't toured the UK solo since 1989, I'm sure if there was even a little more marketing of her in the UK they could drum up some pretty good ticket (and album) sales. Not that it matters much to me anymore now that I live in Australia. Now what would REALLY piss me off if she now toured the UK but didn't come to Australia! If she were to tour Oz next year I would hope to go to at least 2, maybe 3, but doubt I would travel all over the place to see her, not since there's such little variation from one show to the next, apart from rather insignificant (and probbaly completely unintentional) note changes. I know Stevie likes us to believe that she re-lives 'the magic' every time she performs the same songs night after night but I find this hard to believe. Hope I don't sound too negative, perhaps I'm just bitter because I've never seen a solo Stevie show!

Well it was a surprise for me lol. I'm still squeeling after reading Mick's biography and finding out that the original lineup performed at my college campus. Trust me to be the last one to arrive at that party lol.

You don't sound too negative at all. Just sound very practical with a hint of pessimism, as is the British way hehe. I would be miffed too if I was constantly served the same performance. But then again, I'd probably still go and be just as excited because the first few times it no doubt wouldn't have kicked in that I was in reality in the same space as Stevie Nicks. I havn't seen her perform outside Fleetwood Mac and I would sorely love to see her. I would say that I very much doubt I will (because I do) but I thought the same of R.E.M. and Fleetwood Mac and had life changing experiences at both.

Stevie's Gold Dust tour in Oz, though it was a good few years ago, leads me to think that she's not averse to the idea of international shows when the time is right. The Mac got a hell of a good reception this side of the pond, with some saying the Dublin shows were the best of the whole leg (I'm just saying :o).
I'm reasonably confident that some UK, European and Irish dates are on the cards for the next few summers. :woohoo:
