Street Angel cover - different versions

Hey everyone!

I have often read about the disappointment where the cover of Street Angel is concerned, usually being referred to as her worst album cover. With this in mind, I decided to just try something different and make my own. I thought it might be fun for those of us who enjoy doing some graphic work to see what we could come up with as an alternative cover for Street Angel.

So here it is:

I'm not overly thrilled with the results and may try something entirely different in the future.... but I'd love to see what some of you might come up with too!

What's so bad about the cover to Street Angel? It's pink and pretty, and a vast improvement over the hideous cover for Other Side of The Mirror with it's red dress, red lips, red flower, and unsexy pose on the floor.

The Street Angel one is boring. It is just her looking down and very pale and pink. It isn't that it is bad, it just isn't good. I love the cover the The Other Side of the Mirror. Yeah, she's on the floor and her makeup is a little intense, but it looks very much like something that would be on the other side of the mirror.

Chili - that's harsh! I will say that I StillMiss Someone is a very close second to Jane for the worst song she's recorded, but I love Rooms On Fire and really quite like most of the rest of the album. I just wish she hadn't worked with Kenny G!

The Street Angel cover, while certainly not the most interesting cover to me, actually suits me fine... it never really has bothered me in any way. But I know a lot of fans don't really care for it, so I thought I would try and come up with something different just for fun.

Sadly the publicity shots for SA were among her most brilliant, yet one of her most lifeless shots ever made it to the cover.

The 'Timespace' cover is just as boring and uninspired as 'SA'.

I really don't like the Street Angel cover. It's one huge pink mess, and the typography is awful too.

I don't really like TOSOTM cover either, but, that's just so... 80s, so I bet at the time it didn't look so... eh.

Timespace is a bit naff too really.

I would have loved it if the picture of Stevie on the left hand side of your cover was the real cover, I think that's a stunning shot of her D:

I didn't like the pale pink color of the SA album or cover and didn't like the hair on the OSOTM album. But in long wispy clothes like Stevie wears, they look dramatic in photos when sprawled out on the floor. No different than the effect for The Dance cover. I am taking pics soon. And some will be on..... the floor.

Nice work! I like that a lot... the Timespace font works well with the cover photo. And the pattern gives the cover much more interest.

I really like it. Better yet, use the back cover pic and re-post in 500x500 and you will be my new BFF. I would love to use your work for the cover art in iTunes for the album.

Wrong! This is definitely much better.

Here's my attempt from a few years ago with primitive editing software and knowledge. I loved the SA session pictures and thought there was more that could be done with them. On reflection, this has a lot of the same problems as the original cover. I might redo it!

I disagree. She's supposed to be an "Angel"...all white and glowing. Yours looks too saturated.

Nice way to market yourself with your image.....I'll never understand. I think the SA outtakes are better than what was put on the LPCover shot. Maybe someone has them. I know yrs ago they were posted for sale on ebay....with mock cover and logo art. ....Now on the picture above what about a back photo?? with the song titles?? :D:shrug:

Ps: I've also not been crazy about the TISL LPcover photo too. Again the outtakes are much better esp the one with the flowers and Stevie is actually 'looking' at the camera....thats a more beautiful photo....than seeing her back side.....At least IMO.....:shrug:

I like the cover of TISL. She had already done full body covers before of her facing the camera so I think she wanted to keep that, but this time while walking away (in the boots) with her beautiful clothes and hair blowing in the wind for effect. I thought it was a lovely full photo of her, and a change. But she'll never please everyone and that's ok.

I love this! Sort of more reminiscent of her other album covers...maybe I would do a more bella donna- esque font or something, but I love what you did with the pix!!!

This is a huge improvement over the original. I think they should have gone with those great promo shots they used for the posters and that one smaller photo that was sold at part of the tour merchandise, where she has no shoes on. She looked absolutely beautiful in all of those shots. One of those should have been the cover.

It is amazing how changing the font can make all the difference, I've never liked the SA cover (not a huge fan of the album itself either), but the Timespace font is a big improvement. I always thought the photo itself was cruddy, but even by just changing the font it improves it.

No, this is so much better! Chris Nicks should be sued for defamation because his art direction was criminal. Why was this hack job approved in the first place? Did Stevie (and her management) just not care? Where was the quality control? It's nice that Stevie is so supportive of her brother, but this is case where nepotism did not work in her favor.

I wish I could forget all the "artwork" of Chris Nicks, including the Enchanted box set. It's a nice compilation, but the box had the potential to be great -- not only visually, but content-wise. It's also a graphic mess with no consistency - bad photo editing, inconsistent fonts, scant liner notes, inexplicable test placement ( why are there snippets of song lyrics from unreleased songs??). It reeks of amatuer art direction more akin to a student-directed high school year book. Stevie (and her fans) deserved so much more that this shoddy execution.

Though the last thing we need is another Stevie compilation, I hope that down the line a great box set will emerge with lots of live songs, unreleased songs, and remixes/alternate versions etc... in a stunning presentation. Reference any number of box sets: Tom Petty's Live Anthology and his Playback box, Janis Joplin's box....any other examples of other favorite, well-done box sets other Ledgies want to provide?

Also along with the song lyrics of those UNreleased songs.....why even put 'that' in there if none of them were to have been included in said box set.....whats the point?? Just to prove to us said fans that we know they exsist?? I also agree it should've had a wealth of material...not just song wise but unreleased photos too and a really really nice booklet even larger. A DVD should've been included as well.....I mean at the time I loved it but I know now it really could've been the cats meow so to speak or whatever line you want to use.....its one of those what a shame type deals really.....or a missed boat etc........:shrug::D

and looks like it was thrown together in MS paint....
