I was going to hijack iamnotafraid's bama thread...but that would be wrong...just wrong. Bama and the Tide are Rolling...let them have their own.

As for the "also ran's" --- what games did you watch this weekend?

Last weekend it was -- K-State vs. UCLA (Take THAT Rick Neuheisel!)

This weekend it was Kansas vs. Georgia Tech 28-25
(Yes, there were some stupid moves, but these guys are kids and are supposed to do dumb stuff.)

http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x7/ewgubbels/kansaFB.jpg http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x7/ewgubbels/turnergill.jpg

And I like Turner Gill, but then again, I am bias because I graduated from the University of Nebraska.

I will say that I did spend a few hours in Purgatory, as I watched the CU-Cal game...and I didn't even turn it over...I watched the whole massacre...

What games did you watch?

Hmmmm, I wonder who that really good freind from UGA could be ;)

Anyways, I never understood the fascination with college football (the players are gonna be gone in 4 years, not to mention that the Stony Brook Seawolves are beyond pathetic lol), i'm still gonna root for UGA.

Neither my school nor the school that I spend most of my time at even HAS a football team. I think I've adopted Yale as my team just to cheer them to beating Harvard. Other than that, I go with PENN STATE, my mommy's alma mater.

well for me, there is no NFL teams in our state, so the nebraska cornhuskers are huge to most nebraskans~ i live in omaha & on game day, there is red EVERY WHERE~ it should be criminal how my neighbor decorates his house/yard for a game~ he even puts out **** that lights up:laugh:~

& also it's awesome to watch the young men develop & see whether or not the have what it takes to play in the NFL~ one of our cornhusker players was 2nd pick in the NFL draft this year, it was a big thing around here~

& on a shallow note, i love watching the cute, cute players~ like alabama used to have a quarterback name john parker wilson, he is dreamy, i never missed a televised game because of him:nod::D~

My mom went to some CUNY (City University of New York) school, I think it was York College or somehwere else smack dab in the depths of Jamaica, but I'm pretty sure they don't have any teams. Sure, the Seawolves basketball one something, but I'm still shocked the football team is D-1. During my freshman year, the annual game with Hofstra (another LI school that I actually thought of going to, but after I saw that I'd have to drive past Nassau Coliseum every day kinda turned me off ) was broadcasted on MSG, a local sports channel that plays Knicks and Rangers games. SBU was doing so bad that, when I caught the last few minutes, our mascot Wolfie had even left. While we lost badly, the real loss went to Hofstra: this year, they got rid of their football team due to budget constraints.

I understand now, especially if you're somewhere that doesn't have an NFL team, but then again, I was more of one for baseball, the Yankees being my team (I'm from New York, and one thing for sure is that the Mets aren't gonna be any less pathetic in the near future )

It's going to take an ex-Big 12 team to get the conference to upgrade their math skills, THAT's for sure. Brian and his reference to Blow U ... makes me smile every time. I haven't heard that phrase since LAST season. They are against Air Force this week and it's televised here. Man, I want Air Force to win sooooo bad.

kak125 -- My son's been talking about that game on the 30th Louisville & Pitt... he's coming home from college that weekend and already has all the games selected that we'll be watching . (Sadly....We have only one TV that gets reception now that HD has taken over...)

Yes, but when they WIN, as James Madison (paid $400K by Virginia Tech) and Jacksonville State (paid $500K by Ole Miss) did, its all the more sweeter.

Its rumored that Boise State has offered up to $1M/game to some of the biggest programs in the country to set up a presumably meaningful game- none will bite. The whole system sucks.

Late to the party again, just read this whole thread. Well, you already know who I love and they gave me a scare tonight, but YAY HORNS!!!

"This game was brought to you by Pillsbury Turnovers and Butterfinger bars."

Gilbert's still shaky as a new QB, but most of those incompletions weren't his fault - Tech tipping the ball and receivers who couldn't hang onto the easiest catches.

Did you see that idiot Raider fan wearing the "Tuck Fexas" t-shirt? What he will do w/ that shirt now? Probably burn it. :D

All week, I thought if the Longhorns won, it would be by 3 to 7 points, so I was pleased w/ the final score, and second half shutout. Our defense rocks! And thank goodness Crabtree ain't around anymore. :p

A win is a win, but they need to quit screwing themselves w/ the sloppiness and penalties. It was such a fun, crazy, exciting game to watch!

Oklahoma fans salute Air Force before Saturday's football game

By Berry Tramel Oklahoman
Published: September 18, 2010

NORMAN -- A strange thing happened at Owen Field on Saturday. The visiting team ran out onto the field to a standing ovation.

After a national anthem that concluded with a definitely-muted "Sooners!", OU's video board ran a short Air Force tribute, followed by a request from Sooner coach Bob Stoops to stand and cheer the Falcons, for "tomorrow these brave cadets will be defending our freedom."

The crowd of 85,000-plus complied.

Earlier in the week, Stoops had asked fans to sing "brave" instead of "Sooners," which had become an OU tradition in the last decade.

The sound of "Sooners" was definitely muted compared to past games.

Retired Lt. Col. Alan Bonner, an Idabel native, OU grad and former Air Force band conductor, served as guest conductor as student Kevin Wright sang "The Star-Spangled Banner."

Also, the OU fans cheered when the Pride of Oklahoma played Air Force's fight song, "Off We Go," some 15 minutes before game time. And the flyover of four Air Force jets, F-15 Eagles, during the anthem thrilled the crowd.

Two comments:

1. I am touched by Bob Stoops & the OU tribute.

2. The fun of living 40 miles from the Air Force Academy is seeing these fly-ers. One year we accompanied the Cub Scouts to an AFA game. The plane was flown by some alumni celebrating his graduation from the academy in 1970-something. The plane was so big and so loud...it brought cheers from the scouts and fear to the adults as it engulfed the stadium.

October 16th, my son and daughter are headed to Lincoln to see the game...one is a Husker Fan, the other a Longhorns fan....motel rooms are sold out....back to 40 miles from Lincoln.

I am not too worried about them driving together on the way to Lincoln, it's on the way back, that someone's gonna get hurt...

I watched Nebraska-Washington until ABC turned the channel... [damn you ABC!]
I watched bits of Air Force - OU ... (Colorado doesn't have a good college football team, except for Air Force.)
I watched UCLA - Houston until Houston was forced to put in their 4th string QB...then it was just too painful to see Rick Neuheisel anymore... [Neuheisel used to coach CU -- and folks around here, just don't like him...]

Oklahoma is that the Air Force has a large presence in this state. One of the largest employers in OKC is Tinker Air Force Base - and there 2 other Air Force bases within 150 miles of OKC (Vance in Enid and Altus which is only 65 miles from my location).

I think it was classy of OU to honor the UAF.

if O-Who loses to Texas next month and I showed the owners of where I am employed that picture, I am sure they would fire me on the spot. They're OU diehards - oddly enough they don't give me grief about being a USC diehard - but the delivery drivers give me all kinda hell for my Okla.St. t-shirts.

Btw, my teenage niece (Who started her first job ever) works at the concession stands for Texas Tech home games...Poor girl - stuck with a job in the 'Dirtbowl' just like her dear ol' dad (Who is a Nebraska diehard and hates O-Who) and her FAVE uncle is stuck in Sooner-land!

NORMAN, Okla. (AP)
Oklahoma has suspended receiver Jaz Reynolds indefinitely after he posted what coach Bob Stoops called ''insensitive remarks'' on his Twitter page about a gunman who committed suicide on the University of Texas campus.

An account with the handle JazReynolds posted the message, ''Hey everyone in Austin, tx.......kill yourself'' on Tuesday, the day of the suicide, followed by a disregard request 5 minutes later. The account was deactivated Wednesday.

Stoops says he is ''incredibly disappointed that someone connected with our team would react so callously.''

Reynolds, who has no catches this season, will miss at least Saturday's game between the eighth-ranked Sooners and No. 21 Texas in Dallas.

Stoops says that the ''rivalry with Texas will not come at the expense of dignity and respect.''

Think I'm going down to Eugene to check out Stanford @ Oregon. Last college football game I went to (on a whim) was the classic USC/Notre Dame game in '05 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2005_Southern_California_vs._Notre_Dame_football_game), and HOLY HELL what a game.

I vividly remember watching that game...an instant classic. The like 4th and nine 40 yard pass by USC. The "fumble" out of bounds at the two stopping the clock. The best part was Charlie Weiss stomping off with yet another crushing loss to USC. Eight straight now.

I was at the 2008 game at the Coliseum: USC 38 - Notre dame 3

I can't take another week of watching the Horns self-destruct. Damn it!

Aaron Williams (the receiver who fumbled the last punt) needs to be benched. If you drank every time he dropped an easy catch this season, you'd still be drunk. Horrible!

All I can say about the OU game was that at least it wasn't as bad as the UCLA game. :(

What about all that drama with TN and LSU? That was interesting, I still need to watch the highlights of that one.

Re: The Nebraska Texas game...

Mack Brown is a class act. The sound bites and interviews after the game, showed him to be a gracious, generous man. More and more Nebraska people have commented on this to me. JWS, you know I love you, but my Georgia Bulldogs are going to stomp y'all! GOOO DAWGS, SIC 'EM!!

That game was a disgrace! Georgia didn't win...Kentucky gave it away with three fumbles (the first on just the 3rd play and another on its own 3), and interception, and gave up a 100 yard kickoff return Even Uga was laughing. Georgia has never lost two straight to UK and that continues.

hey hey hey GOODBYE!!!

And the O-Who Boo-Hooers go down!!! So much for their #1 ranking.

For the third week in a row the #1 team in the nation has gone down, 'Bama, Ohio St and now Blow-Who.

Oregon better be ready for war at the Coliseum, the Trojans (Still my team regardless of their record/probation/etc) are going to see that game as their bowl game.

I think everyone saw this coming. The classic "Upset That Really Isn't An Upset" game.

I haven't looked at the BCS percentage standings, but I'm hoping that Auburn isn't going to improbably vault into #1 (or even #2) as a result of their win vs. LSU today.

You're absolutely right. USC, coming off a bye week, will be really fired up. I'm hoping to go to the game...5 pm kickoff. It will be electric. I can't think of a #1 team, other than USC, coming into the Coliseum. Perhaps Notre Dame or UCLA years ago.

I wasn't shocked about O-Who losing...I love it when they lose, hell I'd cheer for the University of the Taliban over those f**kers from Norman - Trust me, the most boastful team in the nation who can never take a loss gracefully without some excuse (Which I'm sure to hear alot of tomorrow) but won't STFU when they win...No other school can come close to that.

Btw, if teams keep losing after obtaining the number 1 ranking and Boise St. keeps playing they way they do (I've been a Boise St. fan since the early 90's when they were still a Division 2 school powerhouse, they did not move into Division 1, now the FBS, until 1996), here's a hint of something y'all better be prepared top see come January 11,2011 in Glendale, Arizona:

Current BCS. Auburn has defeated four ranked teams...Oregon, one. So, on strengh of schedule, SEC Auburn must be #1. If Auburn wins out they're in the NC game. Of course that means beating Alabama and winning the SEC.

1. AUBURN

6. Missouri

And of course that's not going to happen.

Dan Hawkins got fired as CU's football coach, due to the loss to Kansas and all the negativity going around in the press and the state about him. I feel badly. He was a nice guy who tried to clean up CU --- "The Drinking School with a Football Problem."

I was hoping he could finish the season, but it's immediate. His kid Cody is the quarterback, since Tyler Hansen got hurt. Cody sounded very postive at the noon press conference.

As my friend Fred says "There are only two types of coaches. Those who have been fired and the ones who are gonna get fired."

There is a third kind. The Joe Paternos, Bear Bryants and Bobby Bowdens. Coaches that just go on and on....even with mediocre records year after year but survive based on past achievements. These coaches are not fired but forced to resign gracefully. Look for Joe Pa to go next.

Illinois and Northwestern on a half a field? How wild!

CHICAGO (AP)—It sounds like something out of a backyard touch football game. No matter who has the ball, there’s only one end zone and everyone has to switch around when it’s their turn.

Turns out, that’s how Northwestern and Illinois will settle things Saturday at Wrigley Field after deciding that the friendly confines were just a little too tight—and a little too unsafe.

The Big Ten announced Friday that the schools had agreed to some drastic and unusual changes for the game at the home of the Chicago Cubs—including running all offensive plays toward the end zone that doesn’t happen to come within a foot or so of a padded brick wall.

It gives me an ill feeling....like that video last year of the player who stuck his fingers into the face mask and tried to poke the kid's eyes out last year.

When my son was in 3rd grade, the baseball/basket ball coach told them that anything was legal, as long as the ref doesn't catch it.

Nebraska game....THAT was a disappointment....it is a miracle that the score was so close with all the fumbles, and interception. Why was Taylor Martinez holding the ball for so long... "Get rid of it!" The FB comments from my Nebraska friends were along the lines that Martinez was deliberately sabotaging the game.... Internet rumors have it that he's transferring at the end of the season. We'll see.

The Nebraska defense had to be getting tired, but they stayed in there. They were something to watch.

I did enjoy the Auburn game, though I was rooting for South Carolina....after a while Cam Newton won me over...that Hail Mary just before the half was awesome.

If all that was going on, if I was Bo, I would've just benched him for the entire game (turned to the stands and flipped a double-bird at Dad Martinez, as well...the arrogant bastard!!)

Berkhead/Bankhead...whatever his name is...was doing better at QB anyway (even could THROW better than Martinez was). Not bad for a running back. With the way they were marching down the field on that last drive. Bo should've never let Martinez touch the football the rest of the game.

Can't believe I'm pulling against
an SEC team in tonights Sugar Bowl.
It's got more to do with a person than
the hogs.

This just in ----

Terrelle Pryor (QB-Ohio State) is now accepting bids for the Sugar Bowl Trophy on eBay.

If you're interested in the Trophy, it has a Buy-it Now price of $19.99 (plus S&H)

The SEC rules!

Except for Kentucky which just lost to a lousy Pitt team with no head coach.

I'm thinking Auburn gets crushed by the Ducks Monday night.

They (we) are the bitterest of enemies.
But, I've got older and one of my brothers
is a big Auburn fan. So I didn't mind them
winning for his sake. I do admit that a few
times during the game I was pulling for the
Ducks. I still bleed Crimson though.

Until next year...
