So today I went on an endless search for the new Rolling Stone issue, but alas, I did not find it. I did however stumble upon the September issue of Alternative Press and it has one of my favorite bands, Something Corporate, on the cover. So I decided to buy it and I got home and was rather bummed about not getting the new Stevie article and there I was flipping thru this magazine when I found this!

<a href="http://s7.photobucket.com/albums/y284/jdi226/?action=view&current=IMAG0590.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y284/jdi226/IMAG0590.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Nothing way too exciting, but just one of those strange coincidences! It is also nice that Fleetwood Mac and Stevie are getting even more recognition by today's younger artists. If you don't know, Alternative Press is a magazine more geared toward todays alternative/punk/pop rock music. Strangely, the last time I randomly flipped thru one of the issues, it just so happened to mention Fleetwood Mac's Unleashed tour and have a picture of them. Maybe I got lucky or maybe someone over at AP is a chiffonhead and likes to put in as many Mac/Stevie references as they can. I know it is geared toward my generation, many of whom aren't fans of Stevie, but I think it'd be bad ass if they did an interview with her about her new album! Anyway, this is long and I am just rambling, just thought I'd share.

I definitely can't agree more with what Alexis says about Stevie's voice, and how modern singers try to make singing a gymnastics competition lol. Note scaling drives me friggen NUTS!! Stevie's voice has always been more about her buttery, gorgeous tone vs vocal acrobatics. Stevie's voice holds it's own WITHOUT the gimmicks.

Slowly but surely, people are coming to realize that the Evil Corporate Rock of the 1970 and 1980s is vastly superior to the Evil Corporate Rock of today.

Totally agree! So many of the singers now think they have to climb that scale in every song, if they are talented, and it sounds horrible. Then there are the ones who cannot carry a tune, but rely on technology, (autotuning) but have to lip synch live because they cannot carry a tune. Look at some of the classic singers, Johnny Cash, Stevie of course, Bonnie Rait etc. they can carry a tune and have unique voices and know how best to showcase their voice in songs.

I agree with all the comments about the current style of vocal gymnastics. I'm no fan of any of the singers who take that approach. Just because you can doesn't mean you should!

Absolutely right! "Oversing" is the perfect word for it. So many great songs are ruined by it, particularly wonderful older songs given the 'X factor' treatment by otherwise talented new voices. For shame. :(
