Hi folks,

As you may or may not have noticed, I'm always back and forth on this board. When stuff's going on with our beloved band, I'm around, when it's not...I'm more of an ocassional lurker. So forgive me for that, but I just watched the Turning Stone 'Love Is' video on youtube and her talk at the end gets cut off. She starts talking about how Love Is is on TISL but she didn't really like the version and Sarah McLachlan--...and that's it. I'm super curious to hear the end of that sentence. Did she have something nice to say about Sarah or not so much?

This interests me because I actually met Sarah this summer at one of the Lilith shows and we talked about her work on the song after she noticed "Love is...What you believe it is" tattoo'd on my arm (I should post pics in another thread but I'm getting touch ups first).

So anyhow...fill me in folks.

stevie said her, sarah mclachlan, nor the producer particularly liked the version of "Love Is" that ended up on the album.

what did sarah have to say about the song?

If none of them liked it, then why is it on the album? Or does this imply that a record executive picked the tracks?

I could be mistaken, but I believe she said neither her, sarah, or Sara's producer liked the 1st version (the demo) at first but then recorded the version on the CD (which I am assuming they liked?)

My understanding is the opposite. That the live version is modeled after the demo, since she doesn't care for the version on TISL.

I like both versions, but the TISL version sounds fresher and more current to me. The demo/live version is beautiful, but can end up sounding like just another dramatic piano song.

I don't think so. If that was the case, she would have performed the album version of "Love Is." She specifically stated that she was inspired by the original demo recorded in 1995 and brought that version to the stage. They all hated the TISL version for some reason...

LOL why does this always seem to be the case with Stevie? Oh we ALL hated it! But we put it on the record anyway. Lalalalalala

I only listen to the demo version (and now the live version) these days since it is far superior to the album version which I think Stevie would agree with. Once you switch to the demo it is very hard to go back to the album version.

If she didn't like it, she should have left it off and included 'Thrown Down' instead!!

This makes no sense. Who is calling the shots here? It's a Stevie solo record and she doesn't get to decide what version goes on the record?

Or, did she just change her mind after it was too late?

Maybe its not what she wanted because of time constraints... She went to Vancouver to record it because the producer couldn't get into the US. Can't remember how long she said she spent there but maybe the time limit prevented them/her from getting to where she wanted

maybe she liked it well enough at the time of recording but then as time went on realized she really hated it? Just a guess
