Ok Everyone I just wanted to take a polling? What is your favorite version of Rhiannon and why? My favorite version is the Mobile Alabama one in 1980. Because it just is spell-binding to me. I love the "Is that what you want!" Love to hear that pleading yet forcefulness all in one. Also this is two part? I really would like to get my hands on the 13:28 vocal up mix that someone was referring to here.

The Rosebud version is the pinnacle of Rhiannon perfection, IMO. Though I really do love the more road worn Live '80 version in it's own way. I think Rhiannon took her last gasps in 1980... so the Live '80 version is sorta Rhiannon's swan song to me.

I couldn't agree with you more Louie :) That is why I chose this version! It is my swan song too :) That was the dying Stevie chants and all around mysticism of Rhiannon. It no longer has that power to "drug" me nowadays :(

I'm caught between Rosebud and the 1975 New Orleans performance as far as vocal performance, tempo, and music. They both have that sort of smooth calmness at the beginning that erupts into unrestrained awesomeness.

I guess I will ultimately go with Rosebud because we have video footage accompanying it. You don't get the same "get that girl as exorcist!" feel without the video.

Detroit Sept. 19, 1982, & my favorite solo is Los Angeles Oct. 2, 1983.

Did you guys know that the performance on the Live album is from 1977? There are a bunch of songs from that album that are from 1975 to 1977: Monday Morning, Say You Love Me, Dreams, Don't Let Me Down Again, Over My Head, Rhiannon, & Don't Stop.

I'm listening to the Mobile version from '80 several of y'all keep talking about... I like it! It's kinda gritty!

Though I doubt anybody here could vouch for me, but my favourite was Manchester, 27th October 2009. Maybe because I was crying so much at the shock of being in front of them that everything sounded beautiful to me. But because it was the first song I heard them play live it'll always hold a special place in my heart.

A few years ago, on this very forum, someone posted a truly gut-wrenching performance of "Rhiannon" from 1987. Yes, 1987, the Tango in the Night tour. It ends with a really exciting howl "Rhiaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanon." I've since lost it, and can't remember the city or date, but perhaps someone else knows what I'm talking about and could share. It was cool to hear a version from that era with so much energy.

Los Angeles (well, more precisely, Inglewood), GW Forum, August 1977. Nothing has come close to those three performances, for me. Perfect blend of intensity, control & dynamics.

I have this one version of Rhiannon from 1987, not sure if it's the one you're on about, but it's pretty good anyhoo.

As for me, my favourite live Rhiannon is either Rosebud, Midnight Special, Mobile, or this one on iTunes I have labeled as "Live in LA 1975" where she does some serious wails at the end.

That's the one - or at least very similar! I forgot it also had the "Nothing ever changes/never gonna change" chanting going on too. Thanks for posting!

Love Rosebud, Mobile, and Midnight Special, too.

Also, there is a live version from Austin, Texas on the Wild Hear tour where she ad libs at the begining: "and he says Rhiannon don't go, I need you stay, but, she says I have to go." PRICELESS!!

I don't think I have a favorite Rhiannon anymore. I don't care if I ever, EVER hear that song again.

That's a piss-poor attitude! :p

Now you're sounding like ME about 2 years ago!

I'm so fascinated how you all know the date and the place of your favorite version. I can never do that, like - ever. Either I never heard when or where or I forget it instantly. Respect!

I like the one from the Rumours tour in Japan as an early cokefueled masterpiece, even if the quality sucks and I never got a better one.

And I like the more controlled, restrained version from Live in Boston, especially when she growls "Well, I don't think you do" in all her dramatic glory.

That's all.

Well, I would like to add that I don't like the slow piano intro AT ALL! With Christine, it was tolerable but it is just schmaltz and kitsch, the song does not win anything from this.
