It's all of the same stuff we've read in other interviews. No new information, but I thought I would post it if anyone wants to read it.

I was just thinking today that really, the reason we're getting all these cool new interviews is because she's doing these 5 concerts in August. Really, all these interviews are is promotion for these shows, generating interest for ticket sales. I have a feeling we lucked out getting all this new info BECAUSE she's doing these shows. If she hadn't done them, I doubt we'd have as much information as we do about her new album.

I also feel that once these shows are over, we probably won't be getting any new interviews/info about the new record until it gets closer to the official release date.

Ok, so this has made more sense than anything regarding why she won't play new songs before they're released:

“Because it will be on YouTube tomorrow. I don’t want all my precious new songs to be on a picture the size of a cassette and a bad angle and people singing slightly off key with a bad mix and have people go, ‘Oh, well what is that?’ Why would you do that? I believe that there really is something to presentation and also to first impressions. So when people do hear these, I want them to be all comfy in their house and with their perfect speakers and some friends and I want it to be an event.”

Ms Nicks musta spent some time on the Ledge recently!! :p She has a point. She wants the first time her music is heard for it to be right... not when she's nervous and hitting flat notes, or when a guitar is off key, or the whole thing to be captured with a low quality digi cam with crappy distorted sound.

This was one blogger's reaction to Stevie's comment and you can read the discussion about it on the blog:

If I had a dollar for every time some old, 'I-live-with-my-head-under-the-sand' rock artist said something stupid about the web... I would still be a tech-blogger... But I would also have a pool of money. I’m not even sure where to begin disagreeing with what Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac has to say. I mean, come on, are her and John Mellencamp friends? Do they hang out on the weekends and yell at the kids playing on the front lawn? Does Nicks not understand that the Internet that’s 'destroying everything' is also the very means through which more musicians are gaining more opportunities than at any other moment in the entire history of recorded music. The Internet is so, so dumb. Let’s turn this junk technology off

was that quote from you ...or was that from the blog you posted...i didnt bother clicking the link.
Stevie Nicks and John COUGAR Mellencamp come from the same era, so why would they not agree...but they both need to learn to change their ways and understand that times have changed. MTV was the outlet for music in the 80s ...but this isnt the 80s anymore...times, they are...a changin. Music is shared so freely these days, and artist this day and age (including the FEW still around from the 80s) need to realize that they need to find another way to make money cause the sales of albums wont do it anymore...i thought Stevie realized that when she STARTED CHARGING 150 DOLLARS FOR A CONCERT TICKET

big deal..i am not worried about "stealing" anything from any artist i have helped support for 3 decades...besides..all her fans would buy connect the dots books if stevie had anything to do w/them..and i can hardly pay my mortgage?? remember.."...now she has a big house with pillars standing tall all around..yea..and she got a garden and its got roses dangling down to the ground....yes and she got money..men to love her and acres of land...."

I don't know what to make of SN's "I need to know my fans are honorable"- or was it "noble" comment. It's a bit insulting, though I feel no need to get my back up over it. Have we not been there for every tour, or most of them? TISL sold somewhere around 700,000 copies. SYW did 800,000 or so. Does she really believe her manager that her "150" biggest fans buy her cds and email them to 500 people each? I wouldn't know 50, let alone 500 or know how to 'e' an album to anyone. We all want it in hand, with the booklet, words, artwork. Maybe said manager just wanted to keep her on the road (which he has) because his all-important percentage is larger per concert ticket than per cd.
Maybe Stevie should be asking herself whether her manager- not her fans-- is 'honorable'. To discourage her from recording for all this time is skanky.
I do see her point about hearing all of the new music at once, since since she's so proud of the recording. But she really should get it out this year, in my opinion, or the temptation to 'tweak' it will ruin the spontaneous fastness of the recording. She got it finished fast. Why let it wait 6 additional months to be released? The holiday sales could be a big help for her and give the cd time to click before the 2011 tour and fans will know the songs.
I also don't see the problem with a minor preview of it, one song even. That wouldn't ruin the other 13 if the one song got on Youtube.

I take Stevie's comments in these interviews as relating to the album experience moreso than just the pirating. She describes it pretty well in the interview, with the speakers and all comfy (add a bottle of wine!), making it special.

As much as I LOVE Trouble in Shangri-la, and as hard as the wait for May 1, 2001 was (when I knew the album was ready in September 2000), that first night listening to the CD on 05/01/2001 was not as all-enveloping in excitement because I had been given a copy of the promo sampler of 5 tracks over a month before.

Same thing with Stevie's songs on Say You Will, listening to them all streaming before the CD was released in April 2003.

I got the promo CD of The Dance a few weeks early in August 1997, so the most exciting and surprising part of that was seeing "Gold Dust Woman" performed on MTV that first night! A surprise that made me so happy!

A week before Street Angel was finally released in May 1994, I got almost all of the songs on bootleg cassettes, which I'm sure contributed to my initial let down feeling. I didn't get to have that first impression as a whole listening experience as I did earlier albums.

I don't think I've ever been more excited and anticipatory as when The Wild Heart, Rock A Little and The Other Side of The Mirror were released! For all three, I only knew the lead singles (and b-sides, plus I thought "Smiling Islands" would be on The Wild Heart for some reason), so actually getting the records and getting home each time and finally listening to them for the first time made them all so special as I listened, poring over the album artwork and lyrics and liner notes. Whole albums, front to back... wow!!!

I think Stevie knows her fans very well, and what an Event it is for us to get an album and listen to it for the first time. My guess is that she's trying to bring that back, for which I'm thankful and grateful to her. :)

For me, this time around I'm going to resist not listening to album leaks and samples before the official release, aside from the single. I want the "album experience" as I too deflated the excitement of TISL for myself having had the full album radio promo @ 3-4 weeks before the release date, and w/ SYW listened to all but 3 or 4 of the songs before that release on the web.

Initially I was hoping Stevie would release the album in the fall, but now that Stevie is saying they are eyeing March 1st as a release date, that does not sound too far, esp. when I was figuring a spring release would be more like May/June. And besides, I think it may be for the best, the world is a mess, things are not looking too positive for the fall in general. The stock market is becoming bearish again, the mid-term election's are sure to be more polarizing than ever leading up to November and no doubt will dominate the news, and the United States could very well fall into a double dip recession. Things do not look good :distress:. I think people will begin to feel some optimism again towards the 1st & 2nd qtr of 2011. Let's Hope.

I did the same thing for the 'Unleashed' tour. I refused to check any of the postings here on The Ledge because I wanted the setlist and costumes to be a surprise. It was tough, but I did succeed in walking into Madison Square Garden with no clue about the set except for 'Storms', which I accidently learned about on Perez Hilton.
I wish I had done the same thing for the TISL and SYW tour.

The more I read of Stevie's interviews, the more I'm coming round to her point of view on keeping the 'jewel' secret until it's actually in my hand. The thrill of the new music will be that much greater for it. It'll be easier when we have a solid release date, I think. :)
