Have you ever made homemade candy like fudge or caramels or taffy, etc.?
I attempted to make fondant out of curiosity. I am not familiar with its look or taste, but I thought it would be fun trying it out. Well, candy making is tricky! The first batch came out all liquidy and I knew it was wrong. The second batch started burning and smoking in the saucepan. Finally persistance paid off and I made a beautiful creamy glob of fondant that is now resting for 24 hours. Tomorrow I will add red color and peppermint extract, and hopefully it will be yummy.
So what about these other recipes I have? Are you familiar with nougat, penuche, sea foam, or divinity?

I've made caramel before, and hard candy for lollipops. I've used the pre-made fondant to cover cakes, is this the same kind? I hear it's very challenging to make from scratch, so congratulations. Now you need to try and make an everlasting gobstopper! :p

This type of fondant isn't for cakes; it is a creamy paste used for fillings in bon-bons.
How does the cake fondant work? You cut it to fit the area you are covering?

I made Millionaire's Shortbread the other night. We used caramel from a tin.. It was bizarre. And hugely calorific

One time a few years ago for Christmas I attempted to make "Rachael Ray's 5 Minute Fudge''. Well, it took a lot longer than 5 minutes and came out a gooey hard mess. Of course I'm the kind of person who needs to be shot if I get within 20 feet of a kitchen appliance that isn't the refrigerator so it was no surprise it came out sh~t. :D

Yep, it's kind of a sugar paste that you roll out like pie crust and drape over the cake then smooth out. They use it on wedding cakes a lot. It usually tastes pretty gross, but I just got one made by Duff, the ace of cakes guy and it was good.

I make a marshmallow fondant that's pretty damn tasty, and I don't even like marshmallows. But regular fondant is often quite ick, though it looks pretty.
I make fudge from time to time, and sometimes peanut brittle or peppermint bark at Giftmas time.

I try to make a couple batches of divinity nut fudge each Christmas for our family. It's yummy but way too sweet for me.

If anyone needs an easy fondant for laying over cupcakes, cake, etc .. use marshmallow creme and powdered sugar. You use twice as much sugar as marshmallow creme. (Example: 2 cups sugar for every 1 cup marshmallow creme.)
I used a small amount one Halloween to make 'ghosts'. (except then, I didn't know it was called fondant!) Here is a more detailed recipe using the same ingredients.
