Sergio "El Shaka" Vega has been gunned down in Mexico only hours after trying to squelch rumors of his death. The Mexican singer was rumored dead and tried to reassure fans he was okay and told entertainment website La Oreja just hours before being gunned down in the street that rumors of his death are common.
Gunned Down After Death Denial - Sergio "El Shaka" Vega.
"It's happened to me for years now. Someone tells a radio station or a newspaper I've (been) killed, or suffered an accident."
The rumors are now true. Sergio "El Shaka" Vega is actually dead as he was killed late Saturday at a toll booth in the town of San Miguel. He was shot five times.
The Reforma Daily reports that just moments before he was killed, the 40-year-old singer had asked a friend to call the police because his car was being followed.
"But when help arrived, it was already too late," Ana Luisa Gomez told Reforma.
Another report reveals Vega was known for his narco-corridos - or ballads about the lives of drug traffickers.
