So anyway this weekend that just ended was our big gay pride festival here in Minneapolis. Its supposed to be the biggest one in the midwest. I always usually participate but this year I sat out for a couple reasons. One was that I am saving money for various things, such as my trip to Europe this fall and a new car which I badly need! I find our pride to be fun in that it's a way for me to go and meet alot of people just like myself, ( and who knows, maybe a future husband!;)) although I'm not holding my breath on that one. One of our gay bars here is called the Saloon and they have this huge block party where they rent the back of a parking lot and can fit at least 2-3,ooo people in there. This year the headliner music acts were someone called Amber who I've never heard of and Blake Lewis, who was runner-up on American Idol one year. I remember back in 2006 Maxine Nightingale appeared there and I got a chance to meet her which was a real thrill. Anyhoo, enough rambling by me. SO do any of my fellow Ledgies attend pride festivals in wherever youre from and what are they like? I'd love to hear!:)

I never attend Pride. I sunburn easily. (That's also metaphorical.) I did, however, see two gay kids gaybashed on my subway train on the day of the parade--the cops put the victims in handcuffs. Bloomberg . . .

And I laughed to learn that I've slept with the last two recipients (and surely soon! the last three) of the Mr. Gay Pride title at some sleazy gay bar. So I guess that means I celebrate gay pride all year 'round. :sorry:

The SF one just wrapped. Its always a good vibe in San Francisco. I havent attended the parade in a long time, but when I did, it was always great! the only down side is it REALLY fugs up traffic for ex-hubby who drives limo for a living. lol. Still as SF'ins (at heart) I (we) are supporters <3

Gay Pride fests/parades and such are a TON of fun when you first come out... it's all a part of the process. I know for me as I've gotten older, the best way for me to show the world I'm out, proud, and just as valid a person as everyone else is by just living my life trying to be the best, most transparent person I can be. You tear down far more walls that way than putting on boas and sacheting through the streets of Frisco :p.

One of the things I actually love best about being a Southerner is that ability to tear down those kind of walls to the most unlikely of people. When I go visit my parents at their lake house in the middle of nowhere, I usually drag along all my gay friends... and we end up hanging out with all sorts of rednecks, bikers, and even good baptists who all tell us the same things after they get to know us: gays are just like everybody else... but more fun! :woohoo: :D

Gay pride is not my thing. In fact, it's a major turn off to me. I'm Bi. But I don't like to dwell on it. It's only a small part of me, and I rarely think about it.

Amen, sir.

I went to Day One of Pride in SF this past weekend. I have to say, I was let down. I prefer D.C.'s with the more obvious political slant, or New York's where the city landscape is absolutely prime for the whole town pouring into the streets for the party.

I'm afraid they're wrong, actually - gays are just like everybody else... but happier, more joyful, livelier people - http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/gay#Adjective. And, of course, brights are just like everybody else... but intelligenter! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brights_movement#Criticism_of_the_title
