Gregg Allman recently underwent a successful liver transplant operation at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla, a spokesman for the singer announced today. The Allman Brothers Band member has struggled with drug problems and recently battled the liver disease Hepatitis C. “I changed my ways years ago,” Allman was quoted as saying in a statement. “But we can’t turn back time. Every day is a gift, and I can’t wait to get back on the road making music with my friends.”

Well, there goes the Allman Bros Band's show at Clapton's Crossroads Festival. I guess Warren Haynes & Derek Trucks will appear instead of the whole band.

EDIT: The Derek Trucks/Susan Tedeschi Band with special guest Warren Haynes is filling in for the Allman Bros Band. (since Allman Bros Band bass player Oteil Burbridge is the bass player for the DT/ST Band, it'll be like the ABB just without Gregg....oh, and different drummers)

Musically, for his slated gigs that might suck. But for him, he his extremely lucky to have been given this opportunity. Hopefully his body accepts the transplant, and he can have have that second chance at life, and be with us for many more years. Rock on Gregg.

Oh, yeah, definitely this'll be great for Gregg as long as it "takes". He seemed to respond well to his Hep-C treatments 2 yrs ago. But then liver transplants are getting pretty common these days, so I'm just naturally assuming all will go well...Jack Bruce has done well with his new liver since 2003.

I'm surprised he has made it this far. The heavy drinking and drugs have taken their toll. Good luck Greg.

I had a relative (My Aunt's husband...The first of three family deaths in 8 days during this past April 2010) who recently died because his liver failed (Again too much booze), and his condition was so grave that had a transplant been performed he would not have made it through the surgery.
