What’s your favorite romantic song? :xoxo:

What song gets you all mushy inside, maybe even teary-eyed? A song that you’d like (or perhaps already have) to be played at your wedding, civil union, etc. Or a song that you and your special someone call your own.

For me, Stevie-wise, ‘Two Kinds of Love’ maybe – I love the lines ‘one for the way you walk, and one for the way you love me... great temptation.’ Also, I adore ‘Love Is’, plus ‘I Miss You.’

But my absolute fave would have to be Frankie Goes to Hollywood’s ‘The Power of Love’:

Beautiful vocal, gorgeous lyrics (sigh...).

One Year of Love by Queen. It reminds me of me and my Jess. It reminds me of how she's made me happy after some very hard years when I was anything but happy. The song hits sooo close to home.

uh..i don't have a special someone - i've never had a BF LOL, but i would love to dance to Leather and Lace at my wedding...

or maybe "Can't Take My Eyes off of You" by Frankie Valli. I once had this boy in my class (a couple months ago) tell me that he listened to this song the day he met me....isn't that sweet?!?!?

Blondie's initial 1975 cover of 'Out in the Streets'. Not your classic cliché soppy love song, but it gets me.

In terms of romantic? I've always been a big fan of "At Last" by Etta James!!

However when I was reading the title of this thread, the first song I thought of was "Let's Get It On":o:laugh:

Hmmm. For me, Nick Cave writes some of the most beautiful love songs in the world:

"Wonderful Life (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=05Hy-_sMsuI)" - That's actually one of my most favorite songs ever.

"The Ship Song" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKlaV-9Vzsk)

"Into My Arms (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FG0-cncMpt8)" - This and the Ship Song above are from the same show, Songwriter's Circle. That's John Cale & Chrissie Hynde up there on stage with him. Both of those songs are particularly exquisite to me when it's just Nick & his piano.

And I can't leave out "Bring It On." Not only is this is a beautiful song, this is one of the greatest music videos ever made. Nick & Company are well known for having extremely **** music videos despite being utter geniuses when it comes to the music part, and when it came time to make this one, they asked Nick what he wanted to do. He said something like, "Well, what's on MTV these days?" "...a lot of black girls shaking their asses?" "Let's have that, then!"

And they did. And it is glorious:

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/e2SZrlC742s&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/e2SZrlC742s&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

I love Tori Amos' cover of Led Zep's "Thank You," too. She looks so joyful singing it, I can't help but smile every time I watch this (which is often, because it's so lovely):

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/1nunxgGQpSQ&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/1nunxgGQpSQ&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

And I also love Peter Murphy's "I'll Fall with Your Knife." This particular version is stunning, and as a bonus, this video is him doing the song when he surprised his wife, Beyhan, while she was doing a TV interview:

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/sdYxaV_Fxt8&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/sdYxaV_Fxt8&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

Awww!

And if I can get all goffick on you for a moment, The Sisters of Mercy's "Some Kind of Stranger (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rjy5TQiUuNQ)" always gets me. "Come here. I think you're beautiful. My door is open wide. Some kind of stranger, come inside."

Somehow I forgot a few of my favorites, and yes, more R&B since it's my favorite genre

Old school Usher is some of the greatest R&B there is, here is my favorite:
<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/DIpQ4AZSAf8&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/DIpQ4AZSAf8&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

And of course, my second favorite band Placebo..."Cause soulmates never die":
<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/AShaxXe3JCs&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/AShaxXe3JCs&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

Another all time favorite lovers song, by this great acoustic band A Rocket To The Moon:
<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Jms45vnTXz8&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Jms45vnTXz8&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

And finally, this really obscure band I discovered a few years ago Random Thoughts, this one breaks my heart to hear:
<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/J7hhRi43tCY&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/J7hhRi43tCY&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

Hmm... can't really think of any favourite songs of mine I'd consider romantic in particular, mostly because my favourite beautiful songs are usually depressing! That said, I'm sure anyone would agree the songs from Norah Jones' album Come Away With Me are all rather romantic. :)

On the sexy and romantic side, definitely …

Sweetback / You Will Rise

Sweetback is an English musical group made up of members of the band Sade, not including the lead singer Sade Adu herself. They are a jazz/funk band with R&B overtones. Stuart Matthewman, Paul Spencer Denman and Andrew Hale had been recording with female vocalist Sade Adu since 1984. The group Sweetback began in 1994 at the end of Sade's Love Deluxe world tour. Their albums feature a host of guest vocalists such as Amel Larrieux, Maxwell, Aya (Lysa Aya Trenier), Bahamadia, Chocolate Genius, and El Debarge just to name a few.

Sade – just about all of their music
Maxwell / Don’t Ever Wonder

On the more emotional and teary eyed side …

George Michael / I Can’t Make You Love Me
Diana Ross / Missing You

and I love Colbie Calliat's new single "I Never Told You"

Well when we got married we picked a couple of songs (well my wife picked a couple of songs) and the one I got to choose was "Wedding Song" by Bob Dylan. Unfortunately just as that song came on, the celebrant signalled for the music to be turned down. :distress:

For Fleetwood Mac it just has to be Crystal...

The other few that come immediately to mind are:

Billy Joel - She's Always A Woman
Emmylou Harris - Boulder To Birmingham (doomed love though - oops!)
Counting Crows - Accidentaly In Love*

* Trust me - listen to the lyrics of this one! Adam is never normally so happy and hopeful. It's all about the joy and abandon of new love, and who can resist a line like: "Baby I surrender to the strawberry ice cream never-never-ender" when talking about just exactly that?! Also - "This bolt of lightning means we're never alone" - fantastic.

I'm a massive Bonne Raitt fan so I'd have to go with her verison for this - great choice though! Maybe not the most "romantic" but definitely an amazing love song! Bonnie's 'Love Has No Pride' (written by Eric Kaz) is in the same vein...

I like Bonnie too, and no doubt it is her version that most people know and love but, George's vocals and his delivery is spot on … its as if he is truly living in that moment. It is absolutely beautiful.

As for Bonnie, I also love her song “You.”

You is just a gorgeous song. She really has done some great ones over the years: You, Love Has No Pride, I Can't Mae You Love Me... and for more funky/sexy/fun tunes you've got Thing Called Love, Love Sneakin' Up On You, Something To Talk About, About To Make Me Leave Home.... etc.. she's just great!

I prefer Linda Ronstadt's version of "Love Has No Pride" to Bonnie's, but that's just a matter of personal taste, though....I really like Bonnie's too, just like Linda's a tad bit better.

My fave romantic song(s):

"To Turn You On" - Roxy Music
"Avalon" - Roxy Music
"My Only Love" - Roxy Music

"The Long & Winding Road" - The Beatles
"I Will" - The Beatles
"If I Fell" - The Beatles
"And I Love Her" - The Beatles
"Something" - The Beatles
"My Love" - Paul McCartney
"Woman" - John Lennon
"Oh My Love" - John Lennon

"Wonderful Tonight" - Eric Clapton

Almost anything by Sade

Almost anything from the late 50's/early 60's by Stan Getz

As far as "romantic rockers":

"Nothing At All" - Heart
"How Can I Refuse" - Heart
"Anytime At All" - The Beatles

And, there are a few others I just can't think of at the moment.

I believe I gots another romantic song, one of my faves of Abbey Road, and it's Something by the Beatles.

And I'm embarrased to say it, but the Disney movies I grew up with in the 90's have their fair share of great romantic songs IMO. Beauty and the Beast, Can You Feel the Love Tonight, and A Whole New World are just a few gems out of many.
