I've played this little game in my Metallica and Led Zeppelin groups on Facebook and I thought I'd bring it to here. Basically, someone makes a statement about the band at hand, the next person say whether or not they agree with it, and then post a new statement. Here's an example:

Person A: John Bonham is a way better drummer than Phil Collins

Person B: Agree
Fade to Black is the best song on Ride the Lightning

And so on. I'll start us off.

Fleetwood Mac sounds better live than in the studio

And what if you just can't answer that? ha.

Hi MissLadyLoki,

Ooh, that's not an easy question for me to answer, but...I'll go with I agree. Rhiannon on Fleetwood Mac Live (1980) is my favorite version of the song...when I see FMac in concert and The Chain begins, the adrenalin is unbelievable...and when Lindsey plays ISA in concert, that's magic! :D

Disagree (they just sound different, which I love - it'd be less interesting to see a live show where they sounded exactly the same with exactly the same sounding instrumentation).
"You And I, Pt. I" should've been on TITN instead of "You And I, Pt. II".

Agree. I always found it a bit strange that there was a Part II on there, and I always figured Part I was on Mirage or something.

The Rosebud version is the best version of Rhiannon around.

I'm not gonna lie, I never actually saw The Dance, but I can tell you that, out of all of the Mac's different video footage, the Tusk doc is my fave.

Agree. Stevie is a good singer and all, but it's the kinda song that works best with Lindsey's voice (both Buckingham Nicks and White Album versions).

Christine's best songs are on Tango in the Night (Everywhere, Little Lies, etc.)

Partly agree, partly disagree. She was on FIRE in 1987 but there's absolute diamonds throughout her entire career.

Neither Stevie or Chris should ever have been allowed near hair crimpers. Or anyone, really.

Well...I don't know. No, disagree, my favorite Stevie look was around Rumours, but, it's true, the White Album era was too cool. She was still...innocent :)

Disagree partly. I'm So Afraid is a big part of why they put on such killer live shows, but yeah, I'd love to see Tango in the Night or maybe even some Buckingham Nicks performed live too.

Silver Springs is a very good song, but it never quite fits on Rumours.

Since no one else has come yet, I'll say agree in a way. I like it when someone changes up a song, but he didn't do it well there. Still dig that one from the Japan show where Mick and John are playing on it.

I don't think I ever thought it was Lindsey either, but I remember Letterman used to make a lot of jokes about it being Stevie making those sounds at the time.

I tend to think Lindsey is doing everything. I thought he was the children's voices at the end of SYW before we learned otherwise.

Of course, I always knew that was him crowing on Peacekeeper.

Agreed!!!! Mick killed that drum solo on the "Tango" tour. Blew me away on that tour, but I would love to see him do more of a percussion/drum solo (no vest, that act is old) than what we got on this last tour (saw the videos on YouTube). Disagree. I think that Sara belongs to Tusk. Stevie's lyrics really evolved, they were more real on Rumours (Dreams, or I don't want to know) than on Tusk, and that's why I think that Sara perfectly fits this album. It's kinda blurred, just like Angel, or Beautiful Child. What's more, Lindsey arranged it in a tusky way : it's a little messy, but absolutely beautiful, just like on Brown Eyes (IMO, of course). After all, the main thing on Tusk was to be "experimental", and I think that Sara could have been a lot more simple as a song, if it was on Rumours. But it isn't. Its progression (with the drums, the piano and everything), the harmonies, and Stevie's airy vocals make it a studio gem.

Here's my statement : "When I see you again" is the worst Fleetwood Mac song ever. (along with Peacekeeper).

Well, about your statement, I just don't know. But they really needed a break, at that time, maybe to come back stronger. The beginning of the 90's was a bad time for the whole band, except for Lindsey, so I'm glad he did "Out of the Cradle" on his own, which is one of my favourite albums of all-time.

Rolling Stone is definitely biased. I find it funny that their 2 first songs of the Greatest Songs of All-time are "Like a Rolling Stone" by Bob Dylan, and "Satisfaction" by the Rolling Stones. Ha. Surprising. So I absolutely agree...though Lindsey isn't on any guitarist list.

Music and movie lists are more or less created by childish idiots who want to be "obscure" or to look "cool". I say just ignore 'em.

OT, but does anyone know what songs, aside from Blue Denim, does Stevie write about Lindsey's eyes?

Disagree. Yesterday's Gone just doesn't sound like it'd fit with the music as well. Yesterday's Gone would fit better with wistful or nostalgic songs more than what ended up on Rumours.

Disagree. GOS is already good enough as a solo album. And Fleetwood Mac is always a way for Lindsey to promote his songs, because, face it, Fleetwood Mac sales a lot more than Lindsey, Stevie or Christine solo. Well, that's how I think. Also, I always thought that Fleetwood Mac were better together (even if, without Christine, it's not the same thing anymore).

New statement : Lindsey was not the only driving force behind Fleetwood Mac. As much as I love him, take a song like Rhiannon : listen to the Buckingham/Nicks version, and then, listen to the White Album version, and tell me how you feel about it. The McVie's and Mick were definitely there too.

Disagree....he's neither way better or better. He's a no doubt a good drummer and fits perfectly with his band's music. Phil Collins is more technically proficient. Phil also has one of those most identifiable sounds and styles. He also contributes singing and songwriting.

I never cared for Phil as a drummer, but I do like the songs from Tarzan (hey, I was 9 when it came out).

Sorry to go off topic here.....I don't know if you've heard much of Phil's stuff or if you've just heard the radio hits being as young as you are and not being a fan of his....He's still a great drummer, but he didn't tend to show off much in his solo career which is more pop based. Oddly enough I am a big fan and I only first heard the Tarzan songs within the past several months (apart from the big hit). I had never seen the movie until then, but I really like the tunes. I digress....In Genesis, which was initially a progressive rock band and later included more of a pop sound, there's plenty of great drumming. They had lots extended instrumental passages and what not. He was also in a band called Brand X where he shows off his chops a lot too. Just FYI.

Possibly, but they might have been encouraged to pursue a country-rock, early-period Eagles-influenced sound more fully than they did with Mac. The Fleetwood-McVie-McVie commitment to the blues and Christine's unusual voice complicated the mix of the band's combined talents in unexpected ways.

New statement: "Never Forget" is a great little tune that deserved a more imaginative arrangement, especially in terms of the guitar solo, which is uncharacteristically dull.

Agree. IMO, a great album will sound timeless no matter when you listen (and some other greats do sound a tad dated, like some of Slayer's stuff, but that's fine), and Tusk doesn't really sound like any era to me (maybe it has a bit to do with it's strangeness).

Rosebud is good, but very short, only half an hour, but the Rhiannon and I'm So Afraid on there are to die for.

Disagree - you know, I've only ever enjoyed having "Monday Morning" as the first track three times, and they were all on the same day - at the concert of 15/12/09, and later that night when I played CD1 of TVBOFM twice. Mind, I thought "Monday Morning" would be the perfect concert opener, and it was. (And I was in such a rockin' mood after the concert I loved hearing it as the first track on TVBOFM.) But when it comes to their album and compilations, I don't like it as the first track. I've done lengthy explanations of why in posts of long ago. Needless to say (coming from me), I don't think it's quite like much of their other music, in that it always seems way, way louder than anything else they've done... at least to me. Also, I prefer at least a little instrumentation to open an album. So, no, it says nothing about what else is in store. ("The Chain", however... :D) "Over My Head" would've been the better opener imo.
(Phew, that was long!)
Although old hat by now, "The Chain" really is the most suitable opener for any FM compilation.

Agree. On many albums, especially ones with an epic feel, there needs to be something a bit slower and calming to close it off (for example, Dark Side of the Moon closes with a beating heart) or exciting and fun to go out with a bang (for example, Who's Next closes off with the awesomeness of Roger Daltrey screaming on Won't Get Fooled Again). Tusk is an album that needs something relaxing after all the weirdness, and Brown Eyes just does that, not to mention it's just a good song.
