Just doing a quick poll before I leave for a week. Simple question, self-explanatory.

Well, since trying to pick a favorite Mac girl was all too difficult, i went with Lindsey!
Besides, musically, he's the most talented out of all of 'em put together!

Didn't really think of her. The Stevie-Chris debate is sorta like the Dave-Sammy debate with Van Halen, and Bekka is a bit like Gary Cherone in VH: the person that tends not to really be associated as a lead singer in the band.

:distress:
I suppose I'll go with Sheryl Cro-oh wait
Can't choose between Stevie, Chris and Lindsey, so Grace Slick it is! Though I always prefered Mickey Thomas

Bekka deserves her fair share of credit too. She has one hell of a voice, and her only fault was doing Stevie songs on the Time tour. This would be like doing a "men of the mac?" poll, and forgetting Billy Burnette and Rick Vito :shocked::eek:

I could never choose between Stevie and Chris...
even though Stevie was the first that I saw, it was Chris that got me.
It may seem to my friends that I'm obsessed with Stevie because I have more of her stuff than Chris, but that's only because Stevie was more successful (meaning more stuff and concerts). Chris also holds a special place in my heart because she plays piano and so do I.
I will never choose between the two...

I voted for Chris... surprisingly  I can't put my finger on what it is that I love most about her. Her beautifully smooth voice, her worderful, thought provoking lyrics, her sheer musical genius (I'm yet to find someone else who can play Tusk on the accordion whilst dancing, screaming and having just finished playing the chair) or her amazing looks? Either way, she's what makes Fleetwood Mac for me.

Christine. She contributed more material to the band, both before and during the Rumours era... although Stevie's voice is contribution enough, which makes it feel like a task of splitting hairs to me to choose between the two. :)

It just is ludicrious that Bekka wasn't included. That's the same as if I did a poll:
Who's your favorite Fleetwood Mac guitarist:
Peter Green
Lindsey Buckingham
Rick Vito
Uh...no Spencer? no Kirwan? no Welch? no Weston? no Burnette? no Mason?
It's my view that you either include ALL members who fit the criteria of the poll, or the poll is invalid. SO, to me, this is an invalid poll.
...her (Bekka) only fault was doing Stevie songs on the Time tour.
WTF kinda comment is THAT?? OF COURSE she'd be doing Stevie songs, as well as Christine songs...she's doing her first tour as the new female singer of Fleetwood Mac doing her predecessors songs in concert. Bob Welch, Lindsey Buckingham, Billy Burnette & Rick Vito all had to do Peter Green tunes....Lindsey had to do Bob Welch tunes....Billy had to do Lindsey tunes. Nobody puts them down for THAT...but HOLY CRAP, Bekka does what she's SUPPOSED to do and she gets vilified???? Why the double standard? Are you really THAT psychotically Nicks-centric? Seems to be in epidemic proportions around here.

Whoaaa. I took up for Bekka...? I am very Nicks-centric, yes. But Bekka and Stevie are two completely different people, that sing on opposite ends of the spectrum. I just think they should have done everything different with the Time era. It was a different band, and it should have been a different setlist.

Apparently I'm the only one who voted for Grace Slick! In my humblest of opinions, you really can't pit Stevie against Christine or vice versa, because they're so wholly different. I love each for very different reasons. I listen to each for very different reasons.
And for those making a spectacle about Bekka: get over yourselves. She was a very, very brief blip in Mac history. People make the biggest damn fuss over that woman, yet they don't cajole over Bob Weston, Bob Brunning, or Dave Walker like they do her. Why? Because she's got a rack? For what it's worth, I'm sure it wasn't Bekka's idea at all to do Stevie Nicks songs. I'm sure she would have rather made her own mark anyway. It's all part and parcel with the Mac package that new members have to play past members crappy songs. That still doesn't make it any more pleasant for the rest of us, though. Lindsey's version of Oh Well makes my skin crawl, and my ears are STILL bleeding a decade and a half later after hearing Bekka's Gold Dust Woman . Displeasure also goes with Fleetwood Mac like coke and straws do with Stevie's tush. :wavey:

The setlist varied little between personnel changes, why is 1994/95 all of a sudden "the new set of rules"??? Because they're Stevie Nicks written songs being done by "the NEW Fleetwood Mac"? Well f*** that...they should've retired "Rattlesnake Shake", "Oh Well" & "Black Magic Woman" when Peter left, too, but they didn't...the songs are FLEETWOOD MAC songs...done by FLEETWOOD MAC.

Oh and Louie, get over your own F***ing self.
I could say the same, my friend! I've known you through the Fleetwood Mac message boards for 10 years now, and know your ways well. You like to scream and yell at anyone who says anything less than gleaming things about non '75-'87 Mac, or when someone forgets to list some random, obscure member. Bekka definitely falls into the latter category: if you polled modern day Mac concert goers asking who she was, 99% or more would have no idea. She was a one-album member... a member of the worst selling chapter in Mac history, to boot. Seriously, what's the fuss about this one chick? I just don't get it.
I know your motive is to turn people on to the non Buckingham Nicks lineups and members. But seriously, do you think screaming at people and berating their opinions accomplishes that? Why can't someone just be a guilt free fan? Honestly, I know you just like yelling and pushing people's buttons. You hide behind your massive Mac knowledge for protection, but I never hear you speak about listening to a Bekka solo album and enjoying it, for instance. I however DO hear you say complimentary things about Stevie Nicks, from time to time. ;)

I thought about Lindsey for his Big Love backing vocals, but I figured that was too clever (and not really genuine on my part anyway). So I chose Stevie, because as much as I adore Christine (and I do) and as much as I think they are equal geniuses, Stevie's songs are more important to me, her persona intrigues me more, and she held my hand once.
Plus she gave the world: "Rhiannon," "Gypsy," "Beautiful Child"!
I mean. Really.
p.s. -- ChilliD is essentially right. Even though she's "obscure"--this is a fan site. A place for people who KNOW the obscurities. So it is strange that Bekka was left off the poll. Even if she had gotten 0 votes, then fine: the people would have spoken. But at least they coulda chosen. That said:
p.p.s. -- Technically speaking, this poll is in the Rumours thread, so . . . technically . . . it's ok to leave out Bekka.
jbrownsjr
05-18-2010, 06:29 PM
This poll is a little strange only because it's obvious Stevie is more popular... Not better... but definitely more popular...
It's like saying who do you like better on guitar.. Eric Clapton or Lindsey Buckingham...
If this were a national poll Clapton would destroy him... most people know who Stevie and Eric are... many many people don't know who Christine McVie and Lindsey Buckingham are....
Most people that come to this site with 31 posts are Stevie fans... I've been around long enough to know that...
Lou Chili isn't screaming at people to berate them... he's just frustrated with some FM ignorance... that's all... it's a band and sometimes people forget that... And without the name FMac.. the only people that would know who Stevie Nicks was were those in Birmingham, AL in 1973 and 1974...

I get frustrated at the myopic views of Fleetwood Mac being "Rumours lineup or nothing"...if the poll had included Bekka, I probably would've just voted and not even posted to the thread......sometimes you just have to break a vase or bottle by tossing it across the room to get people's attention; otherwise they just ignore you. That's all I'm doing, as Mick would call it, "Rattling the Cage"...the only reason I told YOU to "f-off" is because you'd pushed MY button with your post (as usual)...in the sake of "personal honor", I had to push back (as usual). Plus, after all these years of posting on FMac boards, aren't we USED to telling each other to "f-off" and living to see another day? :D :sorry:
And, anyway, wouldn't I have been conspicuous by my absence if I DIDN'T bring up the Bekka omission? Somebody would've posted, "UH, OH, chili's going to spring a leak on this one", if I hadn't....so, I just had a reputation to live up to, appease certain expectations, as well. You are not the only one who voted for Grace Slick. I voted for Grace if only just for the fact that I'm on a big Jefferson Airplane kick right now. I have their entire catalog. They are one my favorite bands. It seems a lot of the bands I love have a mixture of men and women: Fleetwood Mac, The Mamas & Papas, Jefferson Airplane, The Magic Numbers etc... I guess I like the variety and appeal that comes with that dynamic. And, like you, I can never choose between Stevie and Chris. Why should I? It's like Sophie's choice!! Go Bekka! lol

Seriously, what's the fuss about this one chick? I just don't get it.
Personally, that's how I feel about Miss Nicks. How people could hang on to some of the drivel she's produced is beyond me. Furthermore, her fans act as though she's just as relevant in 2010 as she was in 1981. Please. She hasn't done anything truly worthwhile in the music industry on her own since 1989. Her fans should thank their lucky stars every day for Lindsey because she never would have made it without him. Speaking of her fans, many of the diehards I've come across over the years are some of the most myopic, narrow-minded fans that I have ever come across. Don't think that's true, what about Stevie fans who disliked Bekka because she performed Stevie's Fleetwood Mac songs? What kind of nonsense is that? Certainly everyone's entitled to their views of the way Bekka performed songs like Gold Dust Woman, but to dislike her because she performed it while being in Fleetwood Mac shows how small-minded these fans are.
In terms of answering the original question of this thread it would be Christine.

I only asked this because it has been my experience that a lot of people dismiss Bekka without giving her a fair shot. Many of them do so without having heard any of her work. I don't really know you, but I assumed that - since you appear to be a Christine McVie fan - you'd at least heard Time and I was just curious to see if you'd heard anything else before making that comment. If you already are familiar with her other work and still aren't a fan, that's fine. To each their own.
To me, her solo work is just as important as anything to do with Fleetwood Mac. I'm sure many of the people who responded to this thread have formed their opinions of Stevie and Christine based on their entire body of work (or at least included some of their solo material) rather than just each one's contributions to the band. So it's perfectly fair to do the same for Bekka.

Hey, I'm a big Christine fan. Everyone knows that. But I also think Stevie has done very relevant things since 1989. "Blue Denim" is among her best solo songs, as is "Planets." I also think some of her songs on Say You Will are amazing. "Illume" packs a wallop.
Do I think her fame is due primarily to music written and performed before 1982? Yes. But she is still capable of making good relevant music when she chooses to.

Ummmm, "capable of making good...music"?? Yes.
But, "relevant"?? Uhhhh, no.
"Relevant" to her own fans & Fleetwood Mac fans...probably.
But to the world in general? I repeat, uhhhh, no.

I disagree. This is the Rumours Forum... Bekka wasn't in the Rumours lineup. That's just cut and dry facts, no emotions involved.
But Grace Slick gets an option? :D
I love how people use this excuse, yet there is no general Fleetwood Mac forum on these boards. Therefore I still say Bekka should have been included.
F***ing myopic Rumours-ites. I don't give a rat's ass (sorry Vicky) WHAT era Bekka was in, what Forum it was posted in, in referring to "Ladies Of The Mac", Bekka should be included, since she WAS an official member of Fleetwood Mac, whether anyone likes it or not. Hell, I have had to put up with Buckingham & Nicks being "Fleetwood Mac members", YOU have to put up with Bekka, Dave Mason, et al. Fact of life...get the F*** over it.

Well that is completely false. I am 20 years old and all of my friends know who she is. She's the hot blond who is in Fleetwood Mac that sings the song about the "one-winged dove." Sorry you are bitter, but Stevie is a common name in this world.
I work in the radiology department of my local hospital. It is a very boring place where many of my workers are miserable. The other day one of the X-ray tech's put on 93.7fm online radio. Edge of 17 came on and everyone cheered up. I started singing it after the song was over and my coworker came up to me and said: "I know right, Stevie Nicks! That was like a little mini boost of energy for this time of the day."
PS Landslide is played before bed by every stoner in the greater Boston area.

Knowing who Stevie Nicks is, appreciating her music, and her being "relevant" in the scheme of the entertainment business are two different things. She (and Fleetwood Mac) are probably the least relevant artists in music biz today. Who IS relevant? Justin Beiber (or whatever his name is), the Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus, etc. That's a fact. I've had to learn to accept it, why can't you? Heck, just about every artist I like (and that's a LENGTHY list) is "irrelevant" in the scheme of things.
Has absoLUTELY nothing to do with me "being bitter"...which I'm not in the f***ing least. And a pox on you for even suggesting that.

Damn that Buckingham and Nicks. Just think how successful Fleetwood Mac might have been without them! :)

Well now you are just swearing and arguing the definition of relevance.
In case you didn't know, there is more to music than Justin Beiber and Miley Cyrus in the eyes of the younger generation today. I live in it. You would be surprised when you scan everyone's shared Itunes at a college campus, how many of them have Fleetwood Mac's VBO or Stevie's Timespace. I would say 60-70% have one or the other. Sure they aren't putting out new music, but everyone I went to school with knew about FM coming to my area and that I was going.

If you're going to cast so wide a net one could argue none of the Mac's music fits in the latter category. It's just good music that millions of people love. And certainly no less relevant (and most likely more so) than Bekka's at this time. Besides, I define relevant differently: she is still innovating. "Illume" for example sounds very different than most other songs she's recorded, as does "Everybody Finds Out." She continues to find new ways, too, of working with her shrinking vocal range. I give her props. So, uhhhhh, yes.

Was "illume" released as a single? Did it top the charts? Did Rolling Stone magazine do backflips over the song? Did they make the cover of the magazine?
No, no, no, and...uhhh...NO! They got next to zero press on the release of SYW, other than a couple of well paid for placements on a couple of NBC dramas and one comedy, the album got next to zero airplay. That, to me, puts the "relevant" quotient at, uhhh...zero...none, nada.
I'm not saying that the songs themselves don't move the listener...I'm not saying that I dislike them, obviously, I LOVE Fleetwood Mac, or I wouldn't be HERE for the last umpteen years. I just seem to have a more realistic view of where they fit in today's world than apparently some do.
I'm saying that they're not even a blip on the radar of the music business anymore. Sure, they still can sell out arenas, but the same people are going tour after tour, show after show. And obviously some new 20 something fan has taken my place at their concerts because I can't afford their tickets anymore.
That said, the entire music biz's "relevance" has dropped like a rock off of the Empire State bldg. "Relevance" in today's market is: "Who's on American Idol?". Where are the "new Bob Dylans"? The "new Beatles"? The "new U2s"??? The "new Springsteens"?? (well, Bruce is still "relevant" so never mind that last one) There aren't any...the music biz is dying...in some cases already dead. And Fleetwood Mac was irrelevant LONG before its demise.

Stevie Nicks Rocks baby as Rolling Stones Magazine Crowned Her The Queen of Rock N Roll back in 1981 and she still holds that crown very well.

I leave for over a week and this thread's gone nuts. Even though I did vote for Lindsey, it'd be a bit hard for me to pick between Stevie and Chris. They both have great songs and great voices, but at the end of the day, I've always had a bit of preference for Chris's voice.

And BTW, when I said vote for someone else, I just threw out Grace as an example of another great rocker chick. There's many you could choose from, such as Ann Wilson, Chrissie Hynde, etc.

Now this is what I call funny. Easy to imagine the poll results if it had been posted in 2018 or later.
Is Lindsey's voice girly? In 2010? I don't see it even during the 70s (though with some effort it may sound like Christine's, as in Don't Stop).

I think she'd still win polls here. We live in an age of short sightedness. People tend to worship the person they "think" they are worshipping.
That goes for all bands, celebs and errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr politicians.
