View Full Version : Mirror Mirror --- Joe Walsh

Is this great, oddball song about the breakup with Joe Walsh?

Then there are the things,
Misunderstandings;
I know, in spite of what you say,
One thing that I really wanted:
I really wanted you.
This will leave you
Haunted in your mirror.

David, despite what most women here who obsess over LB think, almost ALL of the Rock A Little songs are about Joe. And The Other Side of The Mirror, too, for that matter.

One More Big Time Rock and Roll Star
Long Way To Go
I Call You Missing
Night Gallery
Love Is Like A River
Thousand Days
Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You?
Mirror, Mirror
Whole Lotta Trouble

"And suddenly, the day comes..."

WELL, I BELIEVED IN LOVE ~ I CALLED IT WORTH IT!!!!!!!

HEY HEY!!!!!!

Even though STEVIE HERSELF wrote in TimeSpace that "Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You?" was about Joe, some women STILL believe it to be about LB.

And Stevie's 1991 BBC interview, the FIRST time she admitted her true love for Joe...

Where she talked about Matthew....

WHY can't people actually LISTEN to what STEVIE says???

This thread has come in time with my recent wonderings about Sister Honey. I think that there is some ring of truth to Les Dudek's claim that it was written about Stevie's you-know-what.

If he said it never crossed his mind, and she believes him -- I wonder who professed his love to her, or never had the guts to confess his love her, that made her write those parts of Sister Honey.

So come back solemn stranger - to fast like a jet plane - all completely scream loud in the Phoenix valley. So that seems to be where the last part of the song came from, right?

Of course, "Sister Honey", Nathan. I'm sorry I forgot Les.

I was just trying to refute the Ladies of LB's Court who think EVERY SONG EVER WRITTEN IS ABOUT HIM.....

I would also add "The Nightmare" to the list of songs inspired by Stevie & Joe's twisted relationship. "Thousand Days" I always thought was inspired by Prince?

"You nearly dragged me up the stairs" After Stevie passed out/fell asleep on Prince's kitchen floor, smoking her pot and whatever else..
"You've been asleep."
"Well, I've been asleep for how long?" she says
"Why do you question me?"
He says, "You never cared about time before, my friend."

Also, "You're not my friend, you're not my love...and this is something that we really don't discusss" and the whole screaming in the courtyard bit.

Prince really disapproved of Stevie's lifestyle during this time and understandably so and it's why they never really stayed connected as friends or collaborators after 1984. Stevie was really out of control during this era which is what makes it incredibly interesting. Someone on this board referred to the Rock A Little era perfectly as "The Rose" period of Stevie's career.

I read somewhere that The Nightmare was about her marriage to Kim Anderson...the line "the moon and her sisters, how dare he take them prisoner" is about Kim's supposedly trying to control her...and the whole song is basically about how the marriage she entered into, intending to only do good for Matthew, became a Nightmare.

Oh yeah, This makes complete sense. Her marriage to Kim indeed was strange, and a complete shock to fans & her entourage at the time. Funny how Stevie never talks about this strange chapter in her life, almost as if she has blocked it all out.

Agreed; pretty sure that's about Henley. "Yes you did send me flowers; that was a long time ago - it sounded good on a delicate-white-written-card"

What's funny is that in a lot of interviews she denies having ever been married - well not directly but along the lines of "that's why I never got married, never had children, etc".

Actually I am pretty sure it is white-ribbon card. And ribbon does make sense, a "ribbon card" is a little card that hangs off of ribbons usually used to denote who the gift is to and from... ergo the flowers are wrapped in ribbons, and the ribbon card hanging from them says they are from "one more big time rock and roll star".

In the interview, Stevie really opened up, for the first time, about her marriage to Kim and her affair with Joe Walsh. It's pretty jaw dropping stuff. I still think it maybe the most open she has ever been in an interview.

All I remember her saying is that it was her last word on unrequited love. Maybe somebody would transcribe her comments for us?

I think you will like Sister Honey, she will help you make up your mind, even if you don't need her, tell her you need her, she needs you brother." Oh man, do I love RAL. There is a passion on that album that we have not heard from Stevie since. Yeah, the album is a bit of a mess but Stevie was in pain, in love, and intense during the recording and I feel it in every song.

Yes, I have it I believe. That will be my goal for tonight when I get home, to get to the bottom of this! (with wine of course). I don't know about transcribing but I can summarize...

This goes nicely with Prince's own lyrics, "I'm not your lover. I'm not your friend. I am something that you'll never comprehend."

Although, Prince was, ostensibly, writing about Jesus.

He was writing about Stevie when he did the song Pop Life - "Whatcha puttin in your nose? Is that where all your money goes?". Stevie responded "Sorry dude, I never pay for that ****" and that was the last time they ever spoke...

Here ya go. Lot of "you know"s in this. wow.

Jim: In this song The Nightmare, this nightmare is...the other side of love for you, correct?

Stevie:
For me this was the final statement of how I really felt about real unconditional love. I mean, like, you know, it's like, as a woman, you know, when...if you give out the vibe, then you know, then people will, you know, so that...we're all adults, you know...they'll flirt with you or they'll try to get close to you or something. But, boy, when you, when you are in love with somebody, and you're *really* in love with them...nobody comes near you. Because you just don't...you don't flaunt anything. You don't offer out, you know. It's like you, you...you are very prim and you're very nice, and you're very friendly. And, you know, you just don't hug everybody, and you don't let everybody kiss you, And, you..you know, you..you..you don't like to basically be mauled. And so, in The Nightmare, it really says, you know, "I stood with you against the storm, and I...tried, once again". And..the fact is, no, it didn't work. But the fact is, I wouldn't trade a second of it, because I'll never again settle for anything that is any less than that feeling.

The one where she talks about Kim being so possessive and controlling and thinking she was Robin's reincarnate? And not letting Stevie go into the nursery by herself? And how she would have given up her damned career for Joe? "If you walk out that door, you basically cease to exist." Yess, amazing interview!

Yeah, This is a good one!! If I remember correctly this is also the one where she admits to aborting Don Henley baby. This was the first time I actually heard it from her and not just a rumor. Great Interview!!
