Could Stevie, have a number one solo hit these days on the pop charts?Hum, That a good question. From the upcoming CD.Or even a new kicka$$ number one country tune on the country charts that out weight Taylor and the other country gals.,feel like crap.
Have a fresh hit,not a remix like Dreams.

I love you Mackey but that is so highly unlikely IMO for the pop charts at least. I mean I could see a song charting but even top 10 is being unrealistic. When you consider who's topping the charts right now (Black Eyed Peas, Rihanna, Lada Gaga) I do not see Stevie in that mix by any means. And, how often do you see a legend like Stevie end up back in the pop charts after the height of their career? I mean Whitney Houston made a good attempt recently and Cher did it in the 90's (and MJ after his death) but help me out here if you can think of any others. The only way I could see it potentially happen is if she collaborated with one of today's stars. I could on the other hand see her releasing an album with new material and it making an impressive debut on the album charts.

The album as a whole I could see doing decently ( a la Eagles LROE), but a single? uh- I don't know. It would be amazing, but I don't see it happening.

She'd have to write about a rudeboy not being able to get it up while prancing around shaking her boobs into the camera. All the while dressed in a black swimsuit with bat win- oh... wait.
It'd be amazing, but it's so unlikely.

I hate to say it but I also think that that's extremely unlikely. Personally I'm amazed and thrilled by how many young people seem to love her music.
But that's tens or hundreds of thousands, not millions. The "millions" are buying Britney Spears and Lady GaGa and Miley Cyrus, and from what I've seen literally are not even aware of who Stevie is, or at best, only vaguely aware. And the majority of consumers who would be buying CD's, etc., are young people. So it's just simply not possible, in a very literal sense. I'm sure the Record Executives would say at some sort of meeting, "The numbers speak for themselves" and then rush to the store to buy Bella Donna and drive home and tell their kids, "You have GOT to hear this it is SO good!!!" (They may love her music personally but I think we're very lucky that she even still has a chance to get a cd out at all, considering the current state of "the business.")
Besides, I think it's fair to say that Stevie is not currently "up" on modern (2010-era) music, in terms of the style she writes in - and that for the most part, that hasn't really even affected her work all that much in the past. So personally I feel she's FAR from being "out of it" - - - but number one? I just can't picture that.

I think she could with the right song. She is Stevie Nicks. She can do anything. However it will be extremely hard. I think a collaboration would be easiest for her, but you never know she may pull a Cher and top the charts like none other. Actually, I was driving the other day and blaring Edge of Seventeen and I thought, holy ****, this song is almost 30 years old but it is still so current. I think if they remastered Bella Donna and rereleased Edge as a single today, it could have the potential to top the charts again if it got proper airplay. As for new music, it just needs to be something catchy. She could definitely appeal to the masses if she started trying.

i agree! I also think it's about the right type of promotion. If possibly Stevie gave the internet and social networking a try (as it seems to be working with the whole twitter thing) she could definitely appeal to young audiences. Just the other day i was playing "Edge of Seventeen" in my choir period, and my student teacher, who is 21, was like "i forgot how much i loved this song!"

Not likely, but stranger things have happened.
Maybe one of her songs will reach the top - but not sung by her. Take for instance I just read the next no.1 album on billboard is going to be a "Glee" album of Madonna songs?? What is Glee? I know it's a tv show and they sing on it, but could someone explain the popularity of this? I don't get it.

I think it is way over-rated. I watched last night's episode, and it was the Madonna episode, not to mention the first one I had seen. I was expecting something incredible and was greatly disappointed. It had a few funny parts, but it just makes me worried. I am so afraid that all these younger kids are watching this show, and AI, and they are seeing these covers and getting the wrong impression. I really think that there are some younger people who watched that Glee episode and aren't even too sure who Madonna is. This is what is going to happen the next time someone covers Stevie in the mainstream. I am going to hate it, because once more they will like that version so much more. They won't even know who Stevie Nicks is.
Example: watching The Dance, Landslide comes on. Sacred moment to us, or me at least, and this 14 y.o. girl says "I like the newer version better. this version sucks." I had no idea what to say, other than "This is the version." Then it got painfully awkward...

i agree completely. When i listen to Landslide people are like, "Oh I love the Dixie Chicks!" It breaks my heart. I'm not sure if teens are embarrassed to listen to old music or not, but whatever it is - AI and cover shows are destroying the opportunity of these artists becoming popular again. Not to mention that the covers are show-tuny crap...no offense.:sorry:

Exactly! Very well put. I have a best friend who has always been obsessed with Led Zepplin, and then the others are all about indie rock. I will take indie rock, but I could never get along with someone who says they like "the newer version" it just breaks my heart:distress:
On topic-I see a #1 hit being very releastic, but not the hot 100. Maybe adult alternative or pop. Her popularity is about half and half. Half the people know her, and half don't at all. I can honestly see her blowing up the clubs again, or just coming out with a rock song for F***s sake!!

Last time Stevie had a #1 Pop Hit was w.FM/ Dreams in 1977!
Stevie has never had a #1 solo hit, just a handful of top 10 & top 40 hits, and a few that got airplay that were never ever released officially.
Stevie has a more consistent record on the upper region of the charts as an album artist!
4- #1 Albums : Bella Donna, Rumours, Mirage & The Dance.
7- Top 10 Albums: The Wild Heart, OSOTM, TISL, Fleetwood Mac (self-titled), Tusk, Tango & SYW.
4- Top 20 Albums: Rock A Little, Behind The Mask, Fleetwood Mac Live & Greatest Hits.
So, I think she has a better chance of charting another Top 10 Album, than a #1 single by a thousand miles.......
I would just be happy if she charted a Top 40 pop single & at this stage in her career....that alone would be a feather in her cap :woohoo:
For her to have a resonable hit, she would definitely need to go trendy, ala Cher w. "Believe" & Madonna w. "4 minutes". have a hip and current collaborator, and the song would need to have a beat above mid-tempo. So given that recipe, I'd prefer her not even try! And besides she already tried this route w. TISL, and it didn't work.
I want Stevie to be true to herself as an artist, and put out a strong effort that is both classic and a new direction as Dave Stewart pointed out in his Tweet, and if she did have the accidental hit....all the better.

I also don't know if I would like to "share" my Stevie with younger generation of today. I just don't see them ever appreciating her like we do even if she did have a #1 hit on the pop charts today (which won't happen). I do however think that Stevie would relish the idea of having a #1 hit since that's something she's never accomplished before so for her I would sacrifice my not wanting to share her .

If Stevie released an internet-only iTunes single, and all her fans bought it the first week it came out... she could crack the top 20.
It would then fall off the charts entirely the following week.

i could see that happening. After the shock of it being a STEVIE NICKS SINGLE settled down, and after realizing the song wasn't that great because Dave-effing-Stewart is on it, people would forget about it....:sorry:

I think all the ones that are worried or upset that a younger generation may know Stevie’s music only because of cover songs (Dixie Chicks “Landslide” or Destiny’s Child “Bootylicious/Edge …) or that they will never truly appreciate her songs the way we do, I think are missing a bigger picture here. If no one covered Stevie’s music at all, that would mean even less people would forget or never know about her as time goes on. Besides, having someone do a great cover such as the Dixie Chicks is only a good thing (and not to forget, more $ for Stevie). As far as Madonna and Glee, I never watched the show UNTIL they did The Power of Madonna. I thought it was great, and very clever the way they incorporated her songs into a storyline. It wasn’t just a bunch of kids singing her songs, the episode told a story and had something to say - I could only wish they would do this for a full hour of Stevie’s music - it would be awesome.
Oh, and like most have said, it’s highly unlikely Stevie will ever have a #1 single (let alone a top 40 hit) unless it’s a fluke, like if it was in a hit movie and happened to be featured prominently in the film or something like that. I was thinking Stevie’s best bet would be to make a country album. I think the voice she has now is probably most suited for that type of music. Then again, country music fans are very loyal and may reject the idea of somebody now trying to cash in on the country scene, even though she has always been a little country.

No this is when the Dance was hot and Fleetwood Mac was hot. Plus, Peacekeeper wasn't played from Say You Will and it was a great song. Nicks couldn't buy a hit if she wanted too. They won't play her on pop, even if you request her. Believe me, I've tried.

Okay, lets try this again.
Up until late 1998, the Hot 100 chart formula did not include airplay-only singles. Silver Springs was not released as a CD single in the United States- therefore, despite its massive airplay in Fall '97, it was ineligible to chart.
Landslide got a rather anti-climactic CD single release in the states in Spring '98 (I forget the exact date)- but by that point, pretty much all the momentum from The Dance (and any spins on Top-40 radio) had dried up. The only reason why it flirted with the Top 50 (I think it peaked at #51?) was the remix they threw on the single.

The reason this seems so unlikely, is because the quality of music in the top 100 these days, is lacking, ummm EVERYTHING that made music great!!!
I mean, most of the top singers today, stripped of all synthetic help, cannot sing!!!! It's sad, but the days of turning on a top hits station and finding pure, good music, seem to be over!
So, the true artistry, and talent of people like Stevie Nicks, Fleetwood Mac, Heart, The Eagles, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and the like, would be completely and utterly overlooked and misunderstood by most of this generation!
..sorry for the rant...this is a HUGE soapbox for me.

I'm an 18 year old NZ born Australian and I slightly bed to differ.. Rumors just re surfaced in our catalogue charts to #4..
AUSTRALIA
TOP 50 CATALOGUE ALBUMS CHART - APRIL 19, 2010
12x Platinum "Rumours" in week 9 on the Catalogue Chart is down 3 spots to #9.
"Rumours" 2010 Catalogue Chart Run
#38 - Week of 2/22/10
#16 - Week of 3/1/10
#08 - Week of 3/8/10
#09 - Week of 3/15/10
#08 - Week of 3/22/10
#04 - Week of 3/29/10
#04 - Week of 4/05/10
#06 - Week of 4/12/10
#09 - Week of 4/19/10
Fleetwood Mac's 5x Platinum "The Very Best Of" moves down to #42 on the Catalogue chart. Total weeks on the Chart = 23.
Now thats nothing to go by but is after the Aus/NZ tour and Taylor Swift incedent.
I think there is a strong enough base of people that potentially could cause a no. 1 hit here in Aus.. Just prob not on the pop charts maybe Adult Contemporary Top 50.. But if an album/single comes out I don't doubt she'll crack the 10's... I dunno

Also you truly have no idea the people my age that appreciate Stevie and the Mac the way you do.. I agonize over being born in the 90's.. And missing years of Stevie.. I've had to cram the last 40 years into 7... As embarrassing as it is I cried when I was told to put my camera away.. I would've given the world to film her singing Storms in Melb.. And then when she didn't give us Silver Springs, again, I could've died (especially since I told everyone within a 10 metre radius there was 1 more song to go "Silver Springs").. I spend what little money I have left over at the end of the week to buy canvas pictures of her or any thing I can find Stevie.. She is the poet in my heart, my beauty.. Age does not discriminate against our girl.. There is a lot of us my age suffering from todays music scene and we cherish Stevie' Dylan', Jimmy Page, Petty, Hendix, Cat Stevens, Old Pink and all the rest.. I swear I'll do everything I can to take this music beyond Gen Y.. My son sings Stand Back and can recognize any pic or song of Stevie so theres a start... Big rant really but it COULD happen :wavey:

I'd like to think yes, it could happen. But not if she keeps singing 'Stand Back' or 'Landslide' every time she's on tv! How much damned money does she get for performing those songs on tv so damned much, anyway! I'm mostly ignorant as to how BMI pays songwriters for televised performances for self-penned hits, but I think aired performance songwriting royalties are based upon on sales and accumulated airplay over the years, which explains why we get 'SB' so much.
She blew it a few years ago not singing 'Rock and Roll' on the Superbowl Pre-Game show, she sang 'SB'- The single for 'Rock and Roll' was just shipping to radio, and nobody but her biggest fans knew she'd covered it, so it wasn't like radio was gonna get any requests to 'play the Stevie Nicks' Led Zep cover" because no-one knew it was going to radio because she chose to sing 'Stand Back during a tv audience to millions of people... It was really, really stupid of her. Though she didn't really nail 'R&R' on her 'Crystal Visions' release, it still had at least some hit potential, had people known- It did nothing. 'Rock and Roll' was much better a couple of years later on Soundstage, but it was only included on the dvd, and not on the cd, so no potential hit, there. 'Crash' and yet another 'Landslide' got sent to radio.
She'd need some people willing to tell her the truth, that she doesn't promote new product to it's full advantage by relying on her back catalogue so much, the 'Say You Will' promotion on 'Today' also had Fleetwood Mac relying on their hits and only singing 2 new songs, and not the really goodnew songs from the album!
Cher's #1 selling song of the year in 'Billboard' had a huge headstart by being #1 in many Euro markets before the US release, and she was 52 and 53 at the time, not in her 60s. It's nearly impossible for any big star to get airplay after they're 39! (Janet Jackson a while back, and Mariah Carey, last year, suddenly became playlist poison!) I'd like to think Stevie could really have a smash, but she really needs strong killer songs and a great album to promote who she is and can be, not who she was.
The 'Ellen' performances were really tragic. Talk a little less about the past in the same way that we all know so much about, and really be the great songwriter-singer that she is, and yes, she could have a really big album with several hits. Continue pr0motion in the same way as 'TISL', 'SYW' and 'The Soundstage Sessions' and people will not get that she has new magic and future classics to offer.

Sorry, but you really must be living in Dreamland. You contradict yourself in your post somewhat, If Janet & Mariah are radio poison as you put it (and they are), then Stevie does not have a chance using that logic. Stevie best shot of having a comeback semi-hit were with TISL or SYW, and that sadly now is past her. If your realistic, you'd realize that the masses (not ledgie's) remember Stevie & FM for their past hits and nostalgia.. period. The fact that Stevie is still respected, creative & married to her work, allows her to have the opportunity to still record. It's a pipe dream to think Stevie, now a 60+ yr. old singer, is going to have this massive comeback on the charts. She banks now on touring & always has, even when the hits were there, but especially now. Time to wake up from dreamland, Stevie's chance of having a modest hit at this point would be a fluke.
If these new recording's end up being a new release, I expect a respectable chart debut, and total sales well under 500K (realistically probably more like 100k to 250k) which, in the new world of the music business is admirable for a classic artist of Stevie's generation. She is lucky, Stevie has the best chances out of all her peers (Heart, Pat Benatar, Linda Ronstadt, Debbie Harry (Blondie) to name a few) to have that opportunity here and now. Here's hoping Stevie becomes the Etta James of her generation and records & tours occasionally well into her 70's.

Here's how Mama can achieve a Number 1 single:
-Collaborate with a hot young act whose initials are not T.S. Lady Gaga, for example.
-Go the Cher route: Euro-disco! Whip out the vocoder, samples, auto-tune, etc. And give us that pulsating Eurotrash technobeat!
-Record a Dianne Warren power ballad for a blockbuster action adventure movie, and play it over the closing credits.
-Record the theme song for a hip premium cable TV series and post clips all over YouTube.
-Do all of the above AND appear on American Idol.

Christopher, you're right. I was kind of 'in dreamland'- thinking that I'd "like" to say a hit can happen, perhaps contradicting myself, as you wrote. I don't think it really will happen for Stevie, " a #1 hit", especially the way she tends to promote new product by also promoting her catalogue.
There are rare exceptions to the '39' rule that Mariah is now facing, which years before also seemed to end Janet Jackson's long run of airplay (for mostly mediocre, at best, songs that became hits), once she hit 39. Yet, there was her Cherness in her 50s, with the top-selling single of the entire year. Other 50-somethings had albums that sold millions. Hit singles? I don't remember any besides 'Believe'-
With Stevie having classic rock radio stations as a possible outlet, which the above singers don't have, I'd like to think a great Stevie song could get some airplay and become a hit. The reality seems bleak, though. So, I tend to agree with you, actually.

I like that Cher tune, but Stevie does not need a computer or vocoder to enhance her voice.but she could add the Euro-disco beat to the tune.
Look at Tina Turner back in 1984 ,she sold records like hot cakes with What's Love Got To Do With It .I dont know about rap,but country singer Tammy Wynnette had a hit with Justified & Ancient with KLF in 1991.I thought that was cool ,and I like it too.

I think Stevie could have a huge hit if she did the type of song that can be played at weddings and graduations and such...I think Stevie doing a song like "I Hope You Dance" would be very well received. I think the public looks to her for that type of "Landslide" ballad wisdom.

Stevie did have a number 1 on the Billboard dance chart with the Planets of the Universe remix. But as for Billboard's mainstream Top 20, sadly enough, her last showing for a single was 'Rooms On Fire' 21 years ago. :(
Who knows - maybe if Tracy Young and company remix her next single as a dance track, Stevie will have a hit again (at least on the dance charts). However, I doubt this will really augment sales. Dance remixes get played in clubs, not radio for the average music buying public.

I just want her to put out good album -- an album that will get high respect from various fields. If it has a hit on it, even better. But that doesn't matter as much, because the record industry is in such flux.
I would love to see Stevie put out an incredible album that doesn't yearn to cater to the masses, yet achieves an artisic high point, rather than album that strives to sell multi-millions yet falls short in artistry. She doesn't need a hit (whatever that means these days); she just must release a collection of great songs. She already has the legendary status; what she needs now is something to add to her legacy.

Beautifully stated Penguin! I couldn't agree more.

I sent a tweet to DJ Tracy Young (POTU remix) asking her if she had any plans to remix any more Stevie Nicks songs and she responded! Not that it's good news but nice of her to respond:
@DJTracyYoung Any plans to remix any more Stevie Nicks songs?
@SapphireSister would love 2! Nothing as of now. about 5 hours ago via UberTwitter in reply to SapphireSister

I just want her to put out good album -- an album that will get high respect from various fields. If it has a hit on it, even better. But that doesn't matter as much, because the record industry is in such flux.

So very beautifully written. Thank You, it was uplifting to read that!

Stevie's singing voice doesn't seem to be attractive any more to youngish music buyers. Even some of us old farts no longer find it attractive. I'd be shocked if she recorded something that became a radio hit today, given that voice (like a person who needs to start Netipotting). I don't see it happening -- unless, as one of you said, her vocal was gussied up in a pulsating, grinding dance track (where the track itself was what was doing the selling).
What is Stevie actually going to be successful selling these days? Not her voice, but the enormous goodwill she has built for being a classy, kind gal who has conquered all sorts of things in her decades in music & her string of great songs from her distant past.
That's why she tours & sings all that stuff -- it's both her legacy & her future. New stuff? It won't add anything to her stature. Only us ledgies & Facebookers would even listen to it. Nobody else will bother, & radio would have no interest in it.

Did you just say something nice about Stevie Nicks? I will never forget this moment lol.You have the wrong impression of me. I have written millions of words of praise for Stevie during my 14 years on the Ledge, my ten years on Usenet, & my three months on Facebook.
I praise Stevie Nicks circa 1969 to circa 1986, & then again in 1994.

I was going to mention Stevie's current voice as being a detractor to some listener as well. I personally accept it and have grown to really love it in a totally different way then "the voice" I first fell in love with during the "Tusk" to "Bella Donna" era. Being a Stevie fan, you sorta come to expect that Stevie's instrument is going to change a bit or a lot on every single album.
Back when "Everyday" was released, I remember the verses were sung in Stevie's now well know low "granny" voice. I think this hurt the appeal of the song (and don't even get me started on why it was a poor choice of 1st single). As David mentioned, even some of die hards found it hard to stomach. I took noticed that her recording voice really changed and sounded more ragged again in 1998 when her "Practical Magic" songs were released, I especially had to warm up to her vocal on "Crystal". Stevie's newer songs that are among some of her best like "Destiny Rules" and "Say You Will" also shine a bit less because of her monotone delivery or lower razor-laser range.
If Stevie sings somewhere in her upper middle range, the results are still very satisfying, gorgeous even reminiscent of her glory days, as the vocals are on "Its Only Love', "Thrown Down" "Love Is" and "Call On Me For Magic". If she stays out of her comfort level in the minor keys and jumps up to a C, her vocals are more appealing to the masses. If I play a song for a casual fan such as "Everyday" or was the case when I played her Soundstage recording of "Beauty & the Beast", They will always reply Stevie was "older"when this was recorded"

Have you written millions of words of praise for Stevie during your 3 months on Facebook? If so, that's kind of alarming.I am a very alarming kind of person, yes. I make no bones about being alarming. But I would say that I've written hundreds of words of praise for the former Stevie Nicks on Facebook. I even joined a group dedicated to Stevie Nicks on illicit street drugs. The group is called COKEY IS BETTER THAN POKEY & all like-minded individuals are invited to join.
I think it would be useful & convenient to have two names for this singer so as to immediately distinguish between the "two women."
How about "Stevie Nicks" for the former & "Mama" or "Big Mama" for the latter?

So you're a fair-weather fan? ;)Yes, we could call it that. But I'm not terribly comfortable with the honorific "fan" at all these days. The implication in that term has confused you & others in the past.
Fans are constantly having to explain their personal proclivities:
1. Fans who love the singer of yesterday, today, & always.
2. Fans who love the singer of today but not of yesterday.
3. Fans who love the singer of yesterday but not of today.
4. Fans who used to love the singer of yesterday but no longer love at all.
5. Fans who used to love the singer of today but no longer love at all.
I'm No. 4.
I hate to be so genealogical, but do you see how confusing "fan" is?

I actually hate "Mama" although I have used it on occasion. It just makes her sound so old, even if she is getting older. And she ain't no mama! To me, she will always be a our "girl" even when the granny panties come rolling around.

Yes, fan is confusing, but so is "love." If love is unconditional, but yet not blind or uncritical, then some will claim it's not real love.

I want Stevie to be true to herself as an artist, and put out a strong effort that is both classic and a new direction as Dave Stewart pointed out in his Tweet, and if she did have the accidental hit....all the better.
Completely agree!
A no.1 song doesn't make it a GOOD song!

No can't happen in 2010. You will never have 10 - 20 yr olds listening to a 60+ year old in a massive way.
I'm 20 and my brother's 18 and we LOVE Stevie! :D
But you're right maybe not a massive amount of 10 - 20 years but still, I try to spread the Stevie love to my peers as much as I can :D :D :D

The matter for me is:
She doesn't have to have hit single.
She doesn't need a multi-million selling album.
She doesn't need put out an album that pleases the masses.
She shouldn't feel obligated to do any of that!
Take Lindsey for example, or dozens of other aging legends.
They make and release their music, ultimately, purely for artistic reasons; because they are still musically inspired and productive.
Lindsey's albums have never blazed up the charts and never will. That doesn't stop him from continually working on his craft. And artists like him understand that their heyday is behind them, but they can still be viably creative because it's in their blood. There will always be a niche consumer audience for them and their new music.
Could it be that Stevie doesn't understand that, or doesn't want to recognize that?
Or more disturbingly, she has lost all interest - that the muse and inspiration for creating new music is waning? The incessant touring behind the same old songs may be financially attractive, but artistically it's completely and embaressingly vacant and redundent.

Yes you have a good point.I think she does not really care about having back to back no#1 hits.If she did it would of happend by now ,but it still not to late in the game.As long as us fans keep buying concert tickets at $100 plus dollars, plus buying 6 copies of repackaged cd,dvd products with 30 plus year old tunes, and yes how many versions we have by now of the greatest hits. anyway she will keep doing what she likes to do.I cant remember what interview when she said"I dont want to be like Madonna with all those number 1 hits and all the gossip too".

Take Lindsey for example, or dozens of other aging legends.
>>>wrote PenguinHead.
I am asking- is Lindsey, generally, considered a legend? I'm not sure. I don't think Mick is. Or Christine. Or John. 'Fleetwood Mac' -yes, legends, collectively, but not individually.
Except for Stevie Nicks. To me, she fits the entire 'legend' vibe-- and definition-- both with and without Fleetwood Mac, as much for her songwriting big handful of hits, as for her image and voice. She had 'Dreams', 'Gypsy', 'Edge of 17', 'Stand Back', 'Landslide' and 'Rhiannon'-- all genuinely 'iconic' songs, in the landscape of popular culture. I think to include 'If Anyone Falls' and other 'hits' would be to overstate her viability, and of course, it's all subjective, anyway.
Without insulting you, or LB's vast musical ability, I don't think he is perceived as a legend. Eric Clapton is.
Lindsey had 'Go Your Own Way'. That's it. To the masses, I mean. Even 'Tusk' doesn't really count, the single, as having a lasting impact on pop or rock music in the way that Stevie's handful of songs chosen above do, in my opinion. LB- Brilliant guitarist, integral to the success and sound of Fleetwood Mac. But Lindsey is not really of 'legend' status, beyond The Ledge message boards, is he? He just doesn't have 'the songs' Stevie has.
And beyond the breakups, makeups, and business of music, there have to be those good handful of songs, I think. I can be wrong. He's a great musician, why isn't that high enough praise? Why did Mick have to have press-releases calling himself an 'icon' when he was up for The Grammy early this year? What's wrong with 'respected musician and founder of one of the most enduring rock bands of the past forty years'?
ICON. LEGEND. DIVA. Soon these words will be obsolete, much as 'superstar' has now become a phrase of the past, save for Nancy Grace describing David Hasselhoff's latest bender.
Is Lindsey an aging, enduring musician? Or, an aging legend, as you wrote.
I guess it doesn't matter. For some reason, it just stood out in your message, and while not exactly a button asking to be pushed, it does somehow make me wonder why such superlatives being tried on for size are so instinctively necessary for us, as fans, and for musicians, themselves?
Maybe Mick really does think he is an icon, that's ok.
A #1 hit? Why on earth would Stevie Nicks at this stage of her career/life need this? She doesn't have anything left to prove. She's already made a big difference in the lives of so many people on this planet, and I think if she would just keep on doing that in some way, it would be enough.
