View Full Version : Mac items you had to leave behind

Over the years of buying Fleetwood Mac related items, there have been times I had to make some difficult choices over what to buy and what I had to leave. I was wondering about everyone else's experiences. Anything you regret not buying? Anytime you had to make a difficult choice as to what to buy, and if so, how did you decide what to buy? Anything you regret buying? I guess the hardest decisions I had to make was when I was at this great record store in Portland, OR in 1989. They had all of the Warner Bros. vinyl, from 1970 on (only had Heroes on CD though) and I had to decide what to get with limited money. I ended up with Then Play On and Kiln House. I wish I had bought the Penguin cassette they had.

Yesterday I left a copy of TITN in a thrift store. I was already buying one to relace the one I scratched though  I also had to leave behind a 7" version of Sara at a record store on the weekend, because I spent an obnoxious amount of money. Not really special, but I hate leaving stuff behind.

I guess I've been pretty lucky, when I got started collecting real heavily I had a lot of disposable income (my early 20's) so I pretty much bought everything I wanted. I paid outrageous amounts for things that I'm amazed at now. $200 for a radio show!!! $500 for a record award!!! $150 for reel to reels of five Mac albums (I don't even have a reel to reel player!). I probably spent several thousand $$$ on ebay alone for stuff. At this point there isn't really anything out there that I don't have. I have all of the posters, singles (domestic and import), albums (solo, group and guest appearences), CD's, promos etc there's not much left. The sad part is most of this stuff is boxed up in a closet!!!

You should put it all out in one room and charge Ledgies to come and look at it!

I wanted this Tango poster. It's at(or was) an antique shop in Nashville. Signed by Mick, Billy, and Rick. Note Rick's HILARIOUS doodling on Lindsey! It has a tear on the corner. I offered him $20, but he wanted more like $100, and kept saying(I've seen it there, several times, over a couple of years) that he was going to put it on eBay. The store's been closed though, the past couple of times I've been in town.

i have this poster, tho not signed, it's way cool~

i have been lucky too, i have been collecting since i was 5 & i don't think there was ever anything i didn't get that i wanted bad enough~

some things i have had to wait patiently for over the years, but eventually was able to get my grubby little hands on it~

i am also lucky enough to have a hubby who not only loves the mac too, but spoils me w/ stevie items:nod:~

besides spending a small fortune on stevie mac items, i also have been lucky enough to have stuff fall in my lap~ my fav head shop/record store likes to hook me up w/ stuff~ & 1 cool thing is the stevie 'airplane' bella donna poster~ i had wanted one for yrs~ my neighbor had a friend who passed & had one & gave it to me, it was framed & everything~

When I left Florida and came back to New Zealand, I had to sell this... *sigh*... I still regret it. It was from 1977 and I bought it in an estate sale of some Cali record mogul. The poster was 4ft x 4ft and in mint condition. I've yet to see another one. :(

I go into the record store near my flat at least twice a week, and every time I drag myself away from the Big Love 12" picture disc. I actually have no idea why I do it! If it's still next time I'm going to buy it.

This is a great topic! I am still kicking myself for not bidding higher on an eBay auction for this poster about 10 years ago. I know it's really rare and I've never seen another one. :distress:

I have this poster, too - but haven't had it framed yet. Seeing how gorgeous it looked on your wall, I will have to do that one of these days! http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a85/hauntedsong/fanposter-1.jpgI've also wanted this poster as well. The last time it was on ebay I was outbid. I so bums me out. Ever since I saw that pic of it in the Silver Springs fanzine in the early '90's I've wanted it. Some things are elusive really. Than there was the BD UK poster too on ebay I was outbid on as well.....sometimes you've just gotta have some limit. I've spent alot on some things through the yrs too....Theres some stuff if I'd had ebay back in the day after seeing them I'd have probably not ever bought too. Theres stuff I'd love and stuff I wish I'd never spent $$ on too. Guess ya live & learn. Than theres stuff I had & sent back too /2 promo jackets I'd wished I kept (one for WH/silkscreened with snaps/it was cool/WH logo on back too & the TS emb jacket too) the WH one at the time I really didn't know what I'd had and well the TS I didn't like the color red but they did have other colors? supposedly?).....Signed tamborines too or top hats....those are always so high but I do prefer stage used one's ....than I wished I bought more at the Silver Springs store too.....anyway, I could go on & on....guess we all have things that we wish we could find but to me at a reasonable cost now....I don't like to over spend now......just some thoughts.....:D

Yeah Louie, I paid a decent price for it... but I sold it for $300. The framing was done in plexiglass so it was surprisingly light in weight, despite it's size. I think the framing cost me about $135 in Florida.

I saw a nice vinyl copy of Penguin on Monday, was only £6 but I thought better of it. But in time I’ll regret that as would like a copy for my collection. Same goes for Heroes Are Hard To Find of which I’ve only ever seen one vinyl copy and decided against it.

I took that photo and obviously I have the poster!! I saw it in a fanzine and decided I had to have it. I looked EVERYWHERE for it. I told anyone who would listen how much I wanted it. Then a member of Enchanted found the poster in a shop in Colorado. She then asked me if I wanted her to pick it up for me and ship across the country to me! I was stunned. That poster is sort of the holy grail of Stevie posters only because there were so few printed up. It's for a one off City Of Hope she did in 1983. You can't see it in the photo but the bottom gives the details about the show. One of the things I love about the poster is the ribbons are blowing on the fan, but the fan isn't even plugged in!!!

Back when Barbara Nicks was still running ‘Silver Spring Emporium’ (not the current incarnation which seems to only have leftover stock), she had a lot of cool signed items.

I did buy a signed ‘Street Angel’ shirt, but wish I bought more. She was selling a signed ‘Time Space’ CD for a ‘measly’ $40. I so wish I bought that.

I like Stevie's custom made Wild Heart tour jewelry that pops up once in a blue moon on ebay though I can't afford it. I do already have a WH tour ring, but I'd like to get my mitts on one of the necklaces or brooches.

Oh, I do regret selling a Timespace promo hourglass I once had.

It was honestly, cheaply made - exactly something you can buy in a kitchen supplies store (to time your egg cooking). It was customised with a sticker saying 'Stevie Nicks - Time Space' on top.

I sold on ebay for about $100+. The buyer was 'Wynnco' of all people - (I'm sure some of you here know about them).

Nowadays, I wish I kept the hourglass - it was very rare.

Which store? Music Millenuim? Everyday Music? Portland still has some great record stores. I'm in a little town in Mass. right now. The only "record" store is Best Buy. So pathetic!

This was in Portland, Oregon and the name of the store was ??. I really don't remember the name, except that it was a guy's name or a last name(Brucie's?) This was 20 years ago and I guess I'm getting forgetful :)

I happened to find this one in the "rummage" bin at Tower Records, and it quickly became my prized possession (I was just a kid; give me a break!):

http://rockalittle.com/whpromoposter.jpg

It was at least 20" x 30" and printed on this matte/textured parchment kind of paper- it definitely looked like a pastel drawing. It was on my bedroom wall for many, many years... But lo and behold, when my family moved while I was in college, my grandmother conveniently discarded it- after all it was "just paper." Ugh! As you can see, no one in my family knows the meaning of the word "sentimental." If I still had it today, I would have had it framed- it was incredibly well done.

BTW, she also conveniently tossed out my ticket stub signed by Bruce Springsteen on the Born in the USA tour while he was walking around outside of the Capitol Centre before the show. It was just more "junk," to toss out, I guess.

My mother did the same thing to me, the minute I left for college. She dumped everything in my room that I hadn't taken with me to the dorm, even though she'd been watching me collect it for years. I asked her why and she said if it was important, I would have taken it with me. How so when my dorm room space was the size of a postage stamp?!

This is the same woman who gave all my barbies to the next door neighbor when I was 12 without so much as asking me, because I didn't play with them anymore.

Of course, now I have scores of dolls. Trying to recapture my fractured youth I guess:laugh:. While there are dolls of most of the celebrities I've loved (Sonny, Cher, X-Files, Michael Jackson) there are no Mac dolls. If I win the lottery, I will commission one of those people who make dolls on Ebay to make FM dolls for me. I've seen the occasional Stevie doll on sale and I've even bid on two of them, but really I wouldn't be happy unless I had a custom made doll for each of the five.

I know how you feel. My mom trashed a lot of my stuff over the years and I have spent a lot of time trying to get it back! I collect dolls also, mostly Barbies. I'm not sure everyone in FM would make a good doll. In my mind, I can only picture Mick and Stevie as dolls! I would love it if Mattel would put out a Stevie doll, like they recently have with Cyndi Lauper, Debbie Harry, and Joan Jett.

I think Lindsey would make a nice doll. He could wear one of his more recent costumes (since he keeps the same thing on for an entire tour and even SNL has noticed) or they could go back to the Mirage era and do one with curly hair, a vest and a straw hat. Stick a guitar in his tiny hands and we're good to go.

I have that poster,I got ages ago from a fellow in Texas.,It was shipped with cardboard in the back and shrinkwrapped as it still is today, also after these years it's still not framed.now I have to get my a$$ in gear to frame it for my upcoming Stevie room.
as for leaving SN/FM stuff behind,a couple weeks ago a guy at the local fleamarket had over priced records like the tune of $15.00 a piece,he did had some FM in there but for that price.yes over the years i've look over those collector papers and magizines and drooled all over those pages looking at those RIAA gold records for $500 or more ,
I had to back off,if I did I would be living on the street with the gold record when the rent was due. Also I've must of spend over $1000's of dollars at the time on collectables
from special records, cds, posters, photos ,radio shows, bootleg concerts, concert videos, tee shirts, keyrings and who knows what else.

It probably wouldn't be difficult to make a Lindsey doll, but I'd probably never find one I thought looked enough like him, so I'd be 'dissatisfied'! (Actually, the outfits from the Go Insane era would make better doll clothes!)

That's what I'm finding with all of my vinyl. I don't have a working turntable, so all my albums do is collect dust. I've got some on display (meaning they're propped up above my computer desk  ), but they're pretty useless. I wouldn't get rid of them right now, but there's no point in buying anything else just for the sake of collection.

Not really. I was still buying **** as recently as 3 or 4 years ago - I was already old at that point. :p

I just don't want any more stuff, you know? Not just Mac stuff - ANY stuff. It just sits there, takes up space, collects dust, etc. Blech. I still have all my bootleg CDs & vids, but I don't want/need any more. And photos/posters are great, but I can look at them on the net.

The one he's referring to is different, it's not professionally printed and has typos that don't appear on the press kit one ;-)

I thought I had it, if I find it while I'm unearthing stuff for the move do you want me to send it?

Ahh yes, I remember now. I do recall there being a different one. I chased after that one briefly but when I found it on eBay the price was way out there!!
