Yeah I'm a little worried about this; I just discovered it myself.
The fact that it's going to a "Network Solutions" page that mentions
registering the domain name is not a good sign!
Methinks somebody didn't pay the bill or something...
I dunno - - - I think maybe we're just gonna have to "stay tuned."

NicksFix needs a major overhaul......
The website may have been ok 10 yrs. ago, which is pretty much where it is still stuck, but it's pretty much an embarrassment for an artist of Stevie's stature!
There is no streaming of her recordings (major mistake and missed marketing opportunity). And her image should just splash on the front page with multiple images from her 4 decade carrer!!!....I mean I could go on and on....and basically there are no "real" updates, only sightings.

Here's hoping (fingers crossed) that her recent collaboration and time spent w/Dave Stewart, have propelled her & mgmt. to market herself more aggressively on the big bad web. Starting with a MAJOR FACELIFT to her official website, a relatively small investment, compared to what a record company would spend normally spend on promotion. And maybe, just maybe (though this would be a big leap) she will release these newly recorded songs through her website :D

You know I've been thinking a bit more into what Dave Stewart tweeted re: " yeah we are making "album" in a very new way"

Because recordings do not move huge units like they did in the old days w/ rare exception. Recording royalties for artists are drying up, and it's no longer cost effective to have big budgets for new recordings, as Stevie was very accustomed to!!

I infer that Dave means by "new way", that Stevie is making "album" w/ a smaller budget & utilizing someone like Dave who is a multi instrumentalist & his studio equipped with all the latest modern recording technology & roaster of musicians to call upon, to record a new solo cd much more cost effective than she is use to. Gone are the days of recording in a mansion for months on end (as w. SYW & OSOTM) and booking multiple studio's with multiple producers & musicians (as w. RAL & TISL) She is reigning in and succumbing to technology because she has no choice in the current music landscape. There are very few record stores anymore, and limited shelf space in big box stores...So to release a new CD or recordings she must embrace the web!! Stevie no dummy. never has been. She is very practical and knows the reality of the music industry, even if she still hates tech.

I've been going to the Nicksfix since the mid/late '90s, and it's gone down/disappeared a number of times over the years. I'm sure everything is fine, y'all. And even if not, it's had a good run and has certainly outlived it's obsolescence.

When comparing nicksfix to Lindsey's site nicksfix looks cheap, and fan-made. This is either a very good thing for news on what could be a new album, or a very bad thing with the website being shut down. There has not been any news about this album, which could be because not many people pay attention to Stevie Nicks anymore, or Dave Stewart. Maybe they don't really feel the need to promote this album in any huge way. But nicksfix needs an improvement badly, she is a legend with the website of unsigned local band.

Oh, and nice way to provide a referral link to the new URL. Perhaps it's finally time to do away with the "nicks fix" moniker once and for all. It's a cute name for a fansite, but definitely not appropriate for an "official" site.

but i agree, the site looks cheap. and doesnt really offer anything new.
she'd be better off without it. i can get all my new Stevie info other places (like here) waaay before nicksfix gets it up, if they ever do.

When comparing nicksfix to Lindsey's site nicksfix looks cheap, and fan-made.

And considering lindseybuckingham.com is basically a design template that gets updated only when the webmistress has new info to copy/paste, its not like the bar is set all that high.

GypsyBlueEyes
04-12-2010, 02:30 PM
I agree...if I was looking for info, Nixfix would be the last place I would think to go. I always come here first anyway. I think it all stems from the fact that Stevie is so anti-technology that she doesn't push to have a more official website. Someone needs to explain to her that the internet could realllllly help her out in terms of reaching fans...it would generate A LOT of interest in her in general...but she's so effing stubborn! I was hoping that hanging out with Dave Stewart and his twittering ways would open her eyes at least a little. She doesn't have to like it, she just has to take advantage of it

I don't know, the Nicks Fix has a lot of Stevie stuff that you can't find on many artists websites, such as:
-Concert Setlists for all her tours
-Lyrics to every song she has sang on in alphabetical order, also stating when and what they were released on.
- Links to most of the interviews and articles about her over her entire career.
- Lists of all her solo albums, Fleetwood Mac albums, Singles, Soundtracks, and albums she has appeared on.
- A section including all the random Stevie sightings.
- Covers people have done of Stevie songs
- Reviews
- Some of her journals
- Pages for her backup singers
- And even a games section

You usually don't find that much detailed information on artists websites. However, I do agree that nicksfix is lacking some. It needs a better layout. It needs to stream her music. It needs to be updated more often. It needs new photos, I think they have been rehashing the same 30 pictures of the month for the past 10 years. She needs to participate in her "Ask Stevie" more than once a year. It does need improvement, but you can't deny that it is quite decent. If you weren't a die hard Stevie fan and you stumbled upon her website, you'd think you found quite a substantial amount of info.

Warner Bros. won't allow that. It likes to keep its artists' music a secret that even they can't divulge.

I love John, my fellow Dallasite!

He worked very hard to become official (finally in 1997!). There is no site as comprehensive with reviews and articles and links. John is very organized. Sorry, starting a new thread about Stevie on TMZ is a discussion, while the NicksFix has sightings and concerts and reviews in a structured order, as an official site should, not just new threads started.

Honestly, I won't miss the nicksfix. I get far more info (and in advance) here on The Ledge.

Stevie hasn't posted her journals or answered any fan questions (not that her answers were ever particularly insighful) in ages at the nicksfix.

However, I will miss Lori's answers page. She came across as very friendly and had interesting tidbits.

No the Rockalittle link is dead... But it's strange, he's utilizing 3 different url's on the site:

Rockalittle.com is the mainpage link on the left side bar at the top (maybe they forgot to change that one).
Stevienicks.net is the beginning of all the links below the mainpage link on the left hand side sidebar.
& nicksfix.com is used for the chat entry page.

Strange! It's seems like it's more of an issue with who ever is looking after their server & site & not so much about the site being dead - it's just kinda mixed up.

But clearly the entry page either nicksfix.com or rockalittle.com are no more.

I've said it before; I'll say it again. ;)

I totally agree with the above. I personally think that Stevie *wants* it to be low-key; and I think that if and when it does become more "corporate," people would HATE it much more than they even begin to realize - - - yet. In my opinion, there is one and only one goal of Official websites such as Madonna's, Britney Spears's, etc. - to sell you more sh*t. Then you can enjoy it, not enjoy it, live, suddenly drop dead, whateva - that has nothing to do with the one and only objective of their websites. And just TRY finding a video on Madonna's "high-tech" website - It's actually a big huge giant pain in the ass, last I checked. I haven't, in a long time, because I HATE the current form of her website. The same has become true of Lady GaGa's website. I know I'm in the minority here; but that's my honest opinion; and I honestly feel that in the hopefully-distant future, when Warner Brothers does take it over, a surprisingly large number of fans are going to (eventually) feel the same way.

And - trust me on THIS one - Warner Brothers, as a corporation, could care less whether those things that give them money are alive or dead - just as long as those things keep fullfilling the only reason why Warner Brothers would ever have ANY communication with them at all. When they die, new things that give them money will replace them, so it's not relevant to their Bottom Line. God Bless America and all that but their one and only job is to make money for the stockholders.

Stevie LOVES her fans; and in my opinion her website reflects that - in an honest, imperfect, human, heartfelt way.

All just i.m.o., of course.

The Ledge is a great exchange of opinions, assumptions and downloads, but the Nicks Fix is a great source for facts and figures. It has the most documented content of any Nicks-related site. Granted, it's stagnent at times and not always up-to-date, but don't I understand how anyone can say that it has nothing to offer.

When I first discovered The NicksFix it was THE most informitive Stevie site out there. This was back in '93 or '94 thereabouts. At that time I began contributing info for the site (check out the radio shows pages, that was initially all me, others added some more, but the bulk of the info came from me). I had wanted to continue adding info for all the radio shows I have (100+ shows from 1976 onward) but the interest seemed to fade and my shows stopped getting listed so I stopped sending in the info.
The site though was still very cool UNTIL it became official and all of the demos and unreleased tracks were pulled down (The lyrics page used to include the demos). Any bootleg info at all was removed as well. Also the content that was posted became very regulated. Nothing could be posted unless it was cleared thru the label or management.

That's an important reminder. Most of the content on the old Nicks Fix came from fans. Kinney himself was a good photographer & a decent compiler of information from others. The Adelsons also collected huge amounts of info from fans for their site, but they added far more of their own content than Kinney ever did.

Yeah, I agree. Someone as legendary as Stevie should get stevienicks.com as her official domain. Hopefully, they are finally working on that and a comprehensive site. Getting the latest info from a fan site is pretty clunky and absurd (my old site included). Maybe Stevie has finally come around!
