Kate Bush is awesome! She and Stevie are the two rocker chicks in my world. Kate gets my avatar and Stevie gets my banner!
Here is the official Bush thread though, if you want to your say

This is really cute, but I love Kate Bush. To me, they're comletely different though. Stevie is my mystical enchantress, Kate is my theatrical siren.
I'm glad we live in a world that has room enough for both.

P.s - I secretly LOVE Kate's bat outfit.

I like Kate very much, although I just couldn't get into her last album that much. Still love her though--just not nearly as much as I loves me some Stevie.

I could never get into Kate Bush. Personally, I don't know anyone who does like her. Stevie is MY "rock n' roll ballerina". Sorry to all who like Kate but Stevie's been around longer. She came first.

^ Why limit yourself with an either/or equation?
Give Kate a chance -- it's not like it's a competition. She's not really even in the same genre as Stevie (she's more prog rock like Peter Gabriel), and you're missing out on some gorgeous songs. Like this one:

I know more people who like Kate than Stevie. And so what if Stevie came first? That's like saying the Sex Pistols aren't punk because Blondie were first

i agree - i think it depends on the person. I can't really get into Kate Bush because of her vocals. They kind of...just...annoy me. I'm not sure why.

I used to be the same, then I bought Lionheart for the cover art. I played it and now I'm saving to buy all her albums  She's my version of Easy Listening, when I'm not in the mood for the Ramones.

Kate and Stevie, in my mind, are both absolute one-of-a-kind originals, which makes them wonderful :)

Then I hope you enjoy THIS Buttercookie -- it's a mashup I made of the two versions of "Hounds Of Love" and the film that inspired it ("Night Of The Demon"):

Am I the only one who thought the backing on Kate's 'Lily' sounded like 'Rock a Little'?

I LOVE Kate Bush, she's a true artist.
The only thing I think she and Stevie have in common is that they both have distinctive voices. Although, I think at her peak, Stevie's was more accessible.
My mother, for instance, can listen to the Mac and Stevie and not complain, yet she LOATHES Kate Bush. And my friend yesterday said "The thing with Kate Bush is that she has BRILLIANT songs....but an awful voice"
I happen to love Kate's voice Violin is one of my favourite songs of all time. D=

Well, since you all are talking about Kate Bush...I've been wanting to introduce everyone to a PHENOMENAL artist named Happy Rhodes. Yeah, that's her real name! I hated to post something off topic on the boards - but since Kate was mentioned now's my chance!
When people hear Happy, they think it's Kate Bush singing a duet with a guy! She has a 4 octave voice that is phenomenal and much richer and beautiful than Kate's. Kate's voice is a little squeeky in my opinion - reminds me of Cyndi Lauper. Some people have called Happy "Enya on acid!". Her lyrics are rather dark sometimes. Her first albums were written in her teens when she was your usual depressed unpopular teen. She's fascinated with science-fiction and monsters and they appear occasionally in her early lyrics and album covers.
Happy is from upstate New York and has been recording since 1984!!! She has released 10 albums and one compilation! Her first 4 albums featured her on all instruments as well, in addition to painting the covers. She now uses other musicians on her songs, but still writes, arranges, produces, and sings everything! You'll be amazed that it's just ONE person singing on some of these songs. And for a STEVIE NICKS connection, drummer Jerry Marotta who performed on OTHER SIDE OF THE MIRROR has played drums on a few of Happy's later albums!
I'm introducing her to all of you because I think she is the greatest vocalist alive and quite a great songwriter. Because she is not on a major label, her primary exposure is by word of mouth. Lots of Kate Bush fans have heard of her through Kate lists and such.
Here is a website that has ALL of her albums to listen to with streaming audio:
http://rhodesongs.com/music/
They are also on YouTube, but this page is much easier to use - each album cover is clickable and the songs are all in order neatly.
Here is a website where there are certain songs you can download for free as well:
http://wretchawry.com/happy/samples/
Where to start? Well, Happy's songs range from folksy guitar songs, ethereal haunting ballads, upbeat techno styles, outright rock songs, etc. Her musical influences are David Bowie, Yes, Genesis, Peter Gabriel, Queen, as well as Kate Bush. If you listen to a few and they aren't grabbing you - move on to another album and scroll through. She has definitely evolved over the years and there's sure to be some songs on all those albums you will find enjoyable.
Her one hit was a song called "Feed The Fire", from her 5th album WARPAINT - the first to be released on CD and marketed to radio. Lots of people were introduced to her through that album. "Feed The Fire" actually became the #1 requested song in 1991 on WXPN in Philadelphia due to a dj playing it alot.
You could start with her compilation RHODESONGS (which includes "Feed The Fire") - it was my first album of hers. It doesn't include any of her darker or more bizarre songs though - much more radio friendly. Her latest album, FIND ME, is my favorite. It's got some great songs in many different styles.
I hope you all will give her a try and let me know what you think! If any of you are interested in purchasing CDs of hers, let me know and I'll track down where you can get them. A few are available at CDBaby - that's currently where her website is directing people. But I found another place not too long ago that had them all in stock. Can't find the link at the moment.
Take care everyone - sorry for the long message! Enjoy Happy!

I like to play Kate Bush songs on the piano. I have songbooks for HOUNDS OF LOVE, THE SENSUAL WORLD, THE RED SHOES, & KATE BUSH COMPLETE.
I also have the sheet music for NOCTURN from the last album.
I like to play Kate Bush songs on the piano. You can buy good sheet music of two Kate Bush songs -- MAN WITH THE CHILD IN HIS EYES, WUTHERING HEIGHTS -- on MusicNotes.com.
My favorite songs to play on the piano are WALK STRAIGHT DOWN THE MIDDLE, NE T'EN FUIS PAS, BABOOSHKA, SUSPENDED IN GAFFA, & SONG OF SOLOMON.
I was the first person in the world to identify the George Meredith source in the last Kate Bush album.

David, who's George Meredith? Is he possibly 'George the Wipe'? I know nothing about this... please share more!
ADDING TO MY POST: Do you mean this "Aerial rings" reference? If so...I guess the identity of 'George The Wipe' (name-checked in Kate's "Moments of Pleasure") shall forever remain a mystery. :(
(from a Paul du Noyer review found here: http://www.pauldunoyer.com/pages/journalism/journalism_item.asp?journalismID=192)
Kate Bush ... has often woven in the most exotic elements - the Bulgarian women's voices, the Irish instruments of her mother's heritage, the enduring cultural totem that is Rolf Harris's didgeridoo - but Aerial is always, finally, in the Saxon meadows of Vaughan Williams' The Lark Ascending ('til lost on his aerial rings,' went George Meredith's poem, 'in light').
