So let’s just say, hypothetically, that a girl had a chance to record with one of today’s hottest producers and the girl of course would have to cover something by Stevie because, well you know, she’s like her biggest fan. Hypothetically she would like to record “I Can’t Wait” but the girl wants to know if the hard-core Stevie fans could see this song being relevant today. You see, this girl needs to do something that people will recognize but hasn’t been done like a thousand times. Something you know that like inspires her and has made a significant impact on her life. Not to worry about copyright, royalties, etc. because this is like I said, totally hypothetical.

And after she danced around in a circle a few times the girl said, “Let the people speak!” before she fell over from dizziness.

Hah... and just as I'm blasting out the RAL album with my windows open for the neighbors/walkers to enjoy! I think "I Can't Wait" would make a wickedly fun cover song! :D To me, the song, the video, the look, the sound are quintessential '80s Stevie. If a person is gonna do a cover, why not have some fun with it? This is one that'd be a riot.

Hypothetically, few fans are going to like for anyone to remake a Stevie song.

That's categorically untrue for this fan at least! :wavey: I LOVE hearing a fresh spin on a very old beloved song.

an Australian "Idol" group did a cover of I Can't Wait in 2008, so to Australians it's not a case of "omg, no-one's ever done a cover of I Can't Wait"

Yes but it was never released as a single was it? I don't think many know about this cover - or they did at the time but maybe forgot about it. Personally I think it's a great cover version - it's more danceable than Stevie's.

I'm not saying no fan will like it. I just notice most fans complain when a song is remade.

Not if it's done right. It wouldn't be some cheesy version trying to sound like Stevie - it would be more of a new twist on an old song honoring an artistic Goddess, not trying to be one. It has been done - think Landslide Smashing Pumpkins.
