Hi guys,

I've just heard someo0ne mention that Stand Back was recorded with the Melbourne symphony, at the same time as Edge Of Seventeen etc for Crystal Visions. Is this true and if so where can I get it? It's not on the version of the album that I bought, was it maybe an itunes track? If so then it's not on there any longer (at least in the UK) so can anyone help me out? It's possibly my fave Stevie song (of the moment anyway!) and I'd love to hear it done this way! If it's as good as the version of Edge Of Seventeen I will be very happy!

Thanks.

I didn't download your link but if it's the iTunes version, I don't think that is/was recorded with the Melbourne symphony, at least not to my knowledge. This is the first time I've ever heard any mention of a Stand Back being recorded with the Melbourne symphony. And IMO, the live Stand Back on iTunes IS very good.

Thanks for that. My mistake, I had assumed it was done with the Melbourne symphony. This is good but I had assumed (wrongly) that it would be a different arrangement, with strings etc, like Edge Of Seventeen. Oops!

The iTunes Bonus "Stand Back" is from the 2005 Dreams Tour, same as "Rhiannon" on Crystal Visions. So, neither of those is with the orchestra (2006).

But I think it's a fantastic "Stand Back"!

I believe it was mentioned somewhere (have to check) when Crystal Visions came out that Rhiannon, Stand Back, and Rock & Roll were recorded later in 2005 on the Gold Dust Tour in Reno, NV. I'll see if I can find this info...

in the meantime here is Stand Back w/ the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (http://www.mediafire.com/?km1jymy1twl)

FYI...there is no Orchestration on this track. If you watch the Youtube video, you can see the conductor sitting down and enjoying the tune.

The clip I am referring to was an audience bootleg that was shot and put up on youtube. "SpyNote" used to have the video up, but it has been taken down. His version was shot at the "screens" that hang in arenas for people with nosebleeds to see the close-up action. There are other fan shot vids of Stand Back from this show on youtube, but I don't think you can see the conductors in those.

Another song that didn't use any of the orchestra players was "Fall From Grace."

I did wonder about this when I listened to it. This is a shame, I'd have loved to have heard some strings on it. I think it could have worked really well! As it is, it's not much different to every other live Stand Back for the past few years. It seems a shame not to have used the orchestra to make it a bit special. Maybe they just couldn't fuigure out how to work them in, although I find that hard to believe!
