So I have this amazing opportunity to choose a song to be upgraded and obviously it's going to be something Stevie so please request one song you would like to have improved sound quality. No promises but I'll try my best to make it happen.

"All The Beautiful Worlds" That's my favorite. But if that one is impossible, then I would like to have better sound quality on the first complete long version take of "Smile At You".

Are you guys referring to the Smile At You angry demo from 82' because the Mirage outtake I have is pretty good quality.
Edit: Oh is it the version that's longer and not so angry?

I'm at work so I don't have my files here to post but check this one out on youtube. Sounds pretty good to me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7BwmeqkIFo
Also, not that this is new news or anything but someone tell me why the angry version is SO MUCH better than the SYW version? I think most people would agree with that but it's really quite obvious to me. Maybe she's just not that angry anymore and the background vocals on the chorus with Lindsey singing sucks. If they were going to add a new chorus it should have been much stronger. :distress:

The Say You Will version of "Smile At You" is an abomination!
First off, Stevie wrote it on piano, and the piano is very important in the Tusk and Mirage versions. Stevie also thought the bass was important, and there's the fascinating studio Master where, when JMcV refuses to play the song in 1979 because he thinks it is too nasty and bitter, Stevie begs him to play!
LB wiped away piano and a strong bass presence on that hideous SYW atrocity. Plus, his own vocals are now the chorus of Stevie's song, rather than her voice. Ick!
LB recorded the song while Stevie was on tour with TISL and she merely laid down the vocals much later ~ she didn't produce the track.
No wonder she hates the production on that album. ("Silver Girl" was also butchered, based on the far superiour demo of Stevie's that is played in Destiny Rules.)

I've got two tough ones. The alternate version (music and lyrics) of Rooms on Fire and the song that we know as Mystical Love (NOT the piano demo of Rich Old Lady). Someone, somewhere has to have clear versions of these.

I'll ditto or triple or whatever vote for "JIMMY COME BACK"!
There must be another version around somewhere! Or clearer, or both!
Hmm. If SN's "peoples" see this, relay 'Jimmy' should be on her next solo cd, OR to rework it and call it 'Christine Come On Back', put it on the solo cd (out this year, please!) and watch it spur Christine to return to record a new Fleetwood Mac cd in 2011!

I would love to get a finished mix of the studio version of "Gold And Braid". The master reel outtakes have great resolution, but Stevie's voice is way too low in the mix...I think a proper mix of the vocals and potentially combining the best elements of the various takes could produce a killer studio version.

Hi Jim,
Yes, it's on one of the talking Masters Reels with "Smile At You". Stevie has to convince John to play because he does not like the song. But she stresses how important the bass intro is to the song. He finally relents.
Not sure which Reel it's on. I only uploaded Stevie's songs to my computer. Everything else is still on CD and I'd have to search through those, but we didn't have that many talking Reels, did we? It should be easy to find. I have the dozens of CDs we got in a nice holder at home.
(I remember the group discussing this "Smile At You" impasse in several emails... I think...)

If it's possible to improve the sound for "Jimmy Come On Back", then that's my vote 100%!!!!! No other song comes close! Except "I Call You Missing"! ;)
But if the sound is too far gone, then I still vote for "Thousand Days" and "What Has Rock and Roll Ever Done For You?" to upgrade to near perfection.

"Love Don't Fail Me Now"
"She Still Loves Him"
"The Charmed Ones (Song For The City of Hope)"

I am not exactly sure when this song was written, but I want to say around 1982/1983 right after Robin's death. City of Hope was the hospital Robin was at if I remember correctly. "The years don't really matter, it's just a matter of time. Ooh it's just the quality of a few precious hours." It doesn't matter how many years you are here, since that is just a matter of time, but the quality of those few precious hours. Life is short, and only the "charmed ones" remain. She then goes on to say "And the charmed ones, no matter how bad it is, well I've already lost one guiding light" meaning she is a "charmed one" and no matter how much this hurts her, she still remains, but she doesn't know why because she's already lost one guiding light, Robin. "Sometimes when I wake up, well I don't think about it, but not a night goes by that I don't wonder where you are." Robin isn't always the first thing on her mind, but she can never make it thru the day without wondering where Robin is. "Nothing will ever hurt me like this again" being that this is the hardest thing Stevie has ever gone and will ever go thru. The most confusing line to me is "And you know in that very statement you give it up just a little bit, your child like angel" but I believe Stevie is talking about herself and realizing that she has lost her best friend, who she was friends with since she was a "child" and so I am sure when her and Robin we together, it was really comfortable and Stevie's child-like aspects, her childish dreams and silly things she would do as a child, would come out when she was around Robin, but now that Robin was gone, her life has changed forever and she has given up a little bit and her child-like angel because it will never come back out again since she can never have that kind of connection and comfort with anyone again. Child-like angel could also refer to Robin herself, and Stevie giving her up, but "just a little bit", meaning she can accept that she is gone, but still holds on to so much of her. Another thing I left out was the "In her heart she goes back... where's this city of hope?" I think this was Stevie going back to the memory of going to the City of Hope to see Robin and seeing her friend dying of leukemia and thinking to herself "Where is this city of hope??? I'm at the City of Hope, but Robin is dying, how can I be hopeful here?" And I think after Robin dies, she goes back to that memory, and still feels that way. "Is there really a city of hope? Really a place I can go to escape this hell?"

So as of right now it's Jimmy Come on Back. I have 4 versions of this. The first 3 are from a CD labeled Wild Heart Outtakes #2 and the tracks are Jimmy Come on Back #1, Jimmy Come on Back #2, and Jimmy Come on Back #3. The fourth one is from a different CD and labeled Jimmy Come on Back demo. I'm not at home so I can't listen and compare right now but does anybody know the difference between these so I can pick one to use?

I have another idea - since I'm not in love with Jimmy Come on Back what do you guys think of doing a remix of something as opposed to improving the quality of a demo? I'm not even sure this is a possibility since I'm sure that would take a lot more time than improving sound quality but just thought I'd put it out there. I'm thinking though - doing a remix isn't really that original of an idea and it's been done many times. Thoughts?
Edit: or maybe a mash-up between 2 songs?

IMO, I say let's get a clear copy of the song itself first. If someone wants to play around and make a remix or whatever, let them do that after we get a copy of the real thing.
But it's up to you - if you hate Jimmy then pick another song to upgrade...I think any song upgrade would be better than a remix.

Why don't you just pick the song YOU want to improve since it seems regardless of what we vote (even though you asked us to choose), you're going to pick what you'd rather have anyway.

You...wouldn't...say that to Bob Dylan...?
But yeah though.

She didn't ask us to choose, she said she had the opportunity to choose and we could request a song we wanted, but she couldn't make any promises.

I don't really care much for this song either. The music is pretty good though. maybe she should write new words for it.

Is it just me or is Chanel Chanel the most fabulous, beautiful, undeniably best song you've ever heard?
2 questions:
1. Would you guys be happy if I chose Chanel Chanel?
2. Could it use an upgrade?

LOL, I've been wanting Chanel for awhile now. I don't know if I have a bad copy, it's poor in the beginning and when Stevie really gets into it the sound quality gets worse. I love this song.

Chanel Chanel is an amazing song, but the version I have isn't too bad, atleast to me. Some others that may need an upgrade are Mabel Normand (absolute fav. def needs to be cleaned up tho!), Tragedy of One's Own Soul, One More Tomorrow, and Gypsy Beggar.

Did you ever consider doing this for a live preformance? How about that '76 live Silver Springs? We don't have any good quality silver springs from that time.

DO I BRING YOU DOWN!!!!!!!!
the version i have isn't particularly AMAZING, but it's listenable. Lately, i've truly grown to love this demo. It's gorgeous, and the harmonies on "...do i bring you down?" are beautiful!

Umm please don't upgrade this one. It's not even Stevie. That's a fan's voice. It's pretty though, I agree. :)

Don't feel bad. A lot of us were fooled, too. I really believed it circa 1998.
Still, I like the song and it's a nice close-to-Stevie sound.

I guess "S@Y"is an example of a Stevie song being downgraded from demo2album version. The"angry"demo version is way cool. Also, some of you may know that I've been out of the loop4 a few years and have just recently come back into the fold.Am I hallucinating, or did I used2have a demo of an AMAZING song called"Mistaken Love"???

Gypsy Beggar isn't one of my faves and I haven't listened to it in ages but maybe this one is better than yours.

AMBER!!!- I think this demo could be an amazing song.. if she adds some great atmospheric sounds- and artistry to it..kind of like her rework on "Sorcerer" from TISL (Maybe add more lyrics in..for length (since Amber is such a short demo) plus the video could be.. gorgeous...all desert- rich colors - maybe..set in a castle.. or mideval type village.. the visuals/wardrobe:nod:.. could be killer!! :)

LOL.. ok.. sorry peeps.. I just totally mis-understood the concept.. of this thread.. LOL.. scratch my Amber remake video idea.. had a total "Blonde Moment"-.. but I would still LOVE LOVE LOVE.. to see Amber- reworked.. REMIXED? possibly...faster tempo.. clearer vocals...a great melodic beat or something like that!?
MY VOTE IS AMBER... remixed (if possible) Hells yeh! :blob1:
it would be awesome if you could.. have the main lyrics "Remember- look inside".. repeated...kinda like Tracy Young did with "Planets of the Universe" REMIX

Does anyone HAVE this studio master with John refusing to play it?! Sounds awesome - I'd love to hear it.

I'm meeting with my guy Monday morning and I really don't want to waste this opportunity but I still am not sure what to have him work on! All the demos I really dig and you guys really dig are decent quality already so I guess it wasn't the best idea after all. Feel free to put in any last minute thoughts.

A last minute thought, only because I was listening to it today is The Wild Heart Dressing Room. I think we all love Stevie in that video (wish the quality of that were better) but we could use a better quality of the mp3 too :)

Update: As of today 4/12 Chanel Chanel is in the studio being worked on. According to the guys it's "audio forensics" to upgrade it. In other words, not easy. If anything it will be an improvement from what we currently have. I'll post a link to upload as soon as I get it. Can't wait! :]

UPDATE: The person I asked to do this is actually the Los Angeles director of a well-known international recording school. Considering I sent the song to him over a month ago you'd think we'd have something but apparently he has more important things to do  but anyway here's the deal...I am calling him on Wednesday to remind him and he's making the upgrade of Chanel Chanel a class project! So the students at the recording academy will be working on this for the next couple of weeks. Let's see who does it best! Yay Stevie reaching the younger generation!

Thanks for asking. It's kind of a long story but I'll try to sum it up. The dude who was suppose to get the students at his school to do it and my boss had kind of a disagreement so we're not on the best terms with him. I was on vacation when the whole thing went down so there was not much I could do. I still haven't spoken with him since all the drama went down but if he does call me back I will mention it. If not I will look into some other sources but it will get done, mark my words.

Am I the only one for Chanel, Chanel, or do I just have a bad copy? It sounds worse than all the other TISL session songs. Annabelle Lee and others mentioned are already fine sound qaulity.
I agree. I would love to have a better quality Chanel Chanel. I have downloaded that song from 3 different sources and the sound is the same on all of them.
