I reall love this song...wish it had made it on an actual album! Any idea who the male background vocal is? Sounds familiar but I can't quite figure it out.

Rupert Hine, OSOTM producer & co-writer, is singing those background vocals. He put out a couple of records & video's in the early eighties, They even played one back in the "I want MY MTV" days

I really like Real Tears. I think it would have fit in nicely on the Mirror album. I can't quite understand the exclusion of it from Enchanted, though.

I'm so glad this thread was created, Real Tears is one of those songs that hold a special place in my heart. I think OSoTM has some of Stevie's most tragic and heartfelt lyrics.

My favorites from this are:

"It was everything that I had not wanted
There were reasons to be crazy"

"Those were real tears
Make no mistake about it
I've always been unreal"

"Take a tear of a rose and push it into your hands
These are real tears..."

It definately should have been included on the Enchanted box set. That was just one of a few grievious oversites with that box set. The live "Needles and Pins" with Tom Petty should have been included. It was released as a single.

The original track listing of Enchanted Disc 2 had "Real Tears" after "Beauty and The Beast", but "Kind of Woman" took its place at the last minute apparently.

I love the backing lyrics:

"She woke up crying
Her eyes got wide
She walked with her head held high
And her hands held down at her sides...

Make no mistake about it,
Those were real tears
Make no mistake about it..."

And Stevie's voice is so strong when she sings:

"Down through the years,
She has accepted her life!"

A few more I thought should have been on Enchanted: Insider w/T Petty and Magnet and Steel w/Walter Egan.

"I Pretend".

I'd have preferred "Midnight Wind" over "Gold"...

Years ago I had a great version of "Real Tears" in my collection, but for some reason, it disappeared.

Was the song intended for Rock A Little or TOSOTM? The version I had sounded like it was recorded for OSOTM, but I thought that she may have used it for a B-side for a single on RAL?

Love 'Midnight Wind'. It's very Mac-sounding to me. In a good way.

The only version we all have is recorded for The Other Side Of The Mirror, produced by Rupert Hine, who also sings the male back-up vocals.

"Real Tears" is the b-side of the U.S. single of "Two Kinds Of Love".

"Real Tears" is the b-side of the U.K. single of "Long Way To Go".

You might be having some Rock A Little thoughts because on the U.K. CD-single and 12", there is also the Red Rocks live version of "No Spoken Word" on there as well.

Do you have the original track listing for all 3 discs? I'd love to see that. I continue to be baffled at some of the choices made for the box set. Although, Kind of Woman is a great song and definitely belongs there.

I dug it out two years ago... Not sure which Stevie box it's in now... I'll try and see if I can find it.

I do remember "Real Tears" was after "Beauty And The Beast" and the track listing for that CD was otherwise the same.

Sara Fleetwood told me that the 1992 version of "Mirror, Mirror" was, yes, supposed to be the b-side of "Blue Denim" in 1994, and that it was mistake that the 1984 Rock A Little version ended up there. So, in 1998, that 1992 version was supposed to be on Enchanted originally, but no idea why it was axed.

OMG, I have wondered what that line was for YEARS! Thank you.

Thanks for the info! For some reason, I thought that it was possibly the b-side to "Talk To Me".

I've always loved the song Real Tears too. I think it should've also been on the Enchanted Box set amoug many others that didn't make it to that set list of songs. It should've been a 4 cd set too. IMO anyway.:D

Real Tears, I think, should have been included on The Other Side Of The Mirror, too. It's a very romantic song and could have made a great closing track.
