Many of the reviews I read back in 2003 about SYW was that at 18 songs, it was just too long. As much as I love new material from FM, I had to agree, it could have been a tighter album.

So if you had to make it a ‘standard’ 10 songs CD, what would you pick?

My choices:

1. What’s the World Coming To?
2. Illume
3. Thrown Down
4. Say You Will
5. Peacekeeper
6. Steal your Heart Away
7. Bleed to Love Her
8. Destiny Rules
9. Everybody Finds Out
10. Say Goodbye

Make it 12 and add Miranda and RTTG!!!

It's fun to try this. But my ultimate conclusion is: It can't be done; not with these songs. In fact, I think it's flaw is that it's still too short. Shoulda been a double album!

10 Songs isn't standard. I'm going with 13, what Fleetwood Mac had on Tango, BTM and Time.

1. Whats the World Comning To
2. Murrow Turning Over in His Grave
3. Illume
4. Thrown Down
5. Peacekeeper
6. Destiny Rules
7. Come
8. Everybody Finds Out
9. Steal Your Heart Away
10. Miranda
11. Silver Girl
12. Say Goodbye
13. Goodbye Baby

I would've put Smile At You in for Silver Girl because I like the Say You Will version but it would be worth leaving it off if maybe Stevie would release it later a bit closer to its demo versions.

I'm not good at sequencing, so these are not in any particular order:

1) RTTG
2) Come
3) Thrown Down
4) SYHA
5) Illume
6) WTWCT
7) Smile At You
8) Red Rover
9) Destiny Rules
10) Miranda
11) Say Goodbye

As a fan, I loved getting all 18 tracks & the additional bonus tracks on the special edition. However that aside, the CD was just too bloated and self indulgent for the casual fan & I agree with Stevie, The sequencing sucked!!

1. Say You Will
2. Bleed To Love Her
3. Thrown Down
4. Miranda
5. Illume
6. Red Rover
7. Destiny Rules
8. Peacekeeper
9. Running Though The Garden
10. Murrow Turning Over In His Grave
11. Everybody Finds Out
12. Steal Your Heart Away
13. Say Goodbye
14. Goodbye Baby

And issue a 2 CD Special Edition with all the additional tracks for all the die hards.
1. Whats The World Coming To
2. Not Make Believe
3. Come
4. Smile At You
5. Love Minus Zero
6. Silver Girl
7. Peacekeeper (live from AOL Sessions)
8. Say You Will (live from AOL Sessions)

I'd say 'Goodbye Baby' to 'Goodbye Baby', 'Bleed To Love Her', 'Silver Girl' and dump the dumb 'Come'.
I truly loathed 'Goodbye Baby' being used on the SYW tour as an audience-manipulating encore, totally prostituting whatever merit the song has, but I do think the song should have been left between Stevie and her shrink, when she had one. Sorry to criticize Stevie. That song is just so exploitative, to me, I can't stand a song being made out of, nevermind, and then being droned as a lullabye goodbye to her unsuspecting fans on the tour, it's so sad to leave the stage.... Blecccch, Feh.
I did like 'Come' live, though, for the guitar solo (isn't the whole song a guitar solo? :) Just think the lyrics are trivial, so I'd leave it off the cd..
PS I'm sorry I didn't play by the rules and make it a 10 song cd.

No one did, except the original poster.

The only song that needs to go is 'Running Through the Garden'. I can't get into it.

Can't do it. No way to get it down to 10 for me  Silver Girl would have to go ( that's an easy one ), and then Goodbye Baby. I wouldn't miss Illume. I'd part with Come, except then there'd be no live version either ( duh ) and I couldn't let that happen :distress:

I love WTWCT! Can't stand Silver Girl, or Illume. Why does she just blather on so? :D

I picked these 11 songs, 10 songs isn't very common for an album. Order was interesting to try and pick, here's what I came up with. I'm glad we got 20 songs though, including the bonus CD!

Peacekeeper
Thrown Down
Bleed To Love Her
Destiny Rules
Goodbye Baby
Miranda
Running Through the Garden
Everybody Finds Out
Murrow Turning Over in His Grave
Say You Will
Steal Your Heart Away

5 from Lindsey, 5 from Stevie – It's only fair…

Miranda
Running through the Garden
Peacekeeper
Say You Will
Steal Your Heart Away
Thrown Down
Murrow***
Everybody Finds Out
What’s the World Coming To
Goodbye Baby

(*** on the condition that Stevie’s vocals get layered into the chorus – otherwise it’s just not a Mac song!)

God, it's awesome how we have such different opinions on this one! Seriously though- I love the fact that it was 18 songs. SYW hold a special place in my heart because it is the album that got me into the Mac!!!! :)

I think there's an excellent album lurking within those 20 tracks, there's just some stinkers on the album that drags it down (I'm looking at YOU Silver Girl. One does not want to hear Stevie Nicks sing "girly girl" ever again)

So, I'd have to go with -

What's the world coming to
Thrown Down
Miranda
Red Rover
Say You Will
Peacekeeper
Running Through The Garden
Steal Your Heart Away
Everybody Finds Out
Destiny Rules
Goodbye Baby
Not Make Believe (I really like it!)

Not in that order though. I just went down the album and picked the songs I liked  Smile at You would get a place if it wasn't butchered as badly as it was, perhaps if it sounded closer to the angry demos D=

Same for me

And just out of curiosity, why do so many people despise Silver Girl? To me it's a great song!

What's The World Coming To?
Murrow
Illume
Thrown Down

Red Rover
Say You Will
Peacekeeper
Silver Girl
Everybody Finds Out
Steal Your Heart Away

note: I love RTTG as a song but I don't like what Lindsey did with it nor I do like Stevie's vocal so that's why I gave it the boot. I think she needs to re-record that song with another producer and sing it on a day when she hasn't got a cold!

No offense to the other songs, but they sound more like solo songs than Fleetwood Mac. THESE songs sound and feel like Fleetwood Mac.

The best track on the album for me.

I love it too ( though for me it's not "the best" ). It has so much energy, and is great to sing along with...same for Everybody Finds Out. :) Plus RTTG has a great solo from Lindsey.

I love that Say You Will is kind of a mess. It has so many great songs and even the "lesser" songs are interesting in context of the record. The only three I simply loathe are "Smile at You" (horrible arrangement) "Silver Girl" (sleep-inducing) and "Goodbye Baby" (reminiscent of "When I see you again).

This isn't to say I dislike Stevie's contribution to the record. "Illume" and "Everybody Finds Out" are, I think, her best songs in years. "Throw Down" cooks, "Destiny Rules" is hot, and "Say You Will" is pretty catchy.

Still--I've said it before and I'll say it again--to have had six Christine songs minus three lesser ones each from Stevie and Lindsey would have been heaven.

Are you sure you need a bonus track? What's the difference between track 2 and track 4?

I didn't spend too much time on this, but I tried to sequence the album in a way that sounds good to my ears (I included 2 Lindsey solo tracks that could have been placed on the album had they decided to include them):

1. Say You Will
2. Murrow Turning Over In His Grave
3. Not Make Believe
4. Wait For You
5. Down On Rodeo
6. Running Through The Garden
7. Come
8. Miranda
9. Everybody Finds Out
10. Peacekeeper
11. What's The World Coming To
12. Thrown Down
13. Destiny Rules
14. Steal Your Heart Away
15. Say Goodbye

I tend to be a much bigger Stevie fan than Lindsey fan... but I've always preferred more of Lindsey's material from his Gift of Screws sessions through Say You Will over her contributions (with the exception of Thrown Down, Not Make Believe, Everybody Finds Out & the fantastic Destiny Rules... which btw, I would've named the album instead of Say You Will). So that's why this selection is a bit Lindsey heavy... but then again, so was Tusk!

Someone else try them sequenced this way and let me know what you think...
