Yes, I got into this song very late. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!
What an incredible rocker from Stevie!!! There was that 26 year old girl belting out those angry lyrics, right after she had joined FM, but before she was a superstar. Just a pissed-off girlfriend ~ love it!!!
Although I love "All the Beautiful Worlds" (which incorporates the chorus), "You Won't Forget Me" stands on its own as a very strong example of Stevie's songwriting.
If only this song could have survived in some way, like if FM had decided to perform it in the 1975-1976 tours, making it a concert classic. "Rhiannon" made her the Rock Goddess, and "You Won't Forget Me" could have solidified it early on. "Gold Dust Woman" and "Sisters of The Moon", while rock songs, definitely were the of the more haunting, slower type. The early live versions of "Silver Springs" come closer to achieving what Stevie had already accomplished with "You Won't Forget Me".
What a lost classic...
i Que lastima!

I just discovered this song a few weeks ago myself and agree it could have been a killer concert staple if given the chance.
I've been listening to the BN shows from Birmingham and Tuscaloosa quite a bit since I downloaded them from BN.net...what great shows and the quality is remarkable considering they are from 1975. And I love the live version of IDWK.

On my computer (a Dell PC), you right-click the mouse and several options come up. I click 'Save Target as' and choose what folder to put it in and then it asks if I want to run or save the file.

BTW, "Take Advantage Of Me" (which I easily DLed through a different site) is a fantastic performance by Stevie!!!!!
Javier wrote it, huh? It SO sounds like a Stevie song! Great different kind of song, yet she makes it her own.

"Take Advantage Of Me", presumably written by Javier Pacheco, performed by Fritz, lead vocals by Stevie!!!

Thanks again, HR!
Introducing "Long Distance Winner", Stevie says, "This is for all of the gypsies out there..." Nice little flashforward to 1983, when Stevie would use a similar intro for "Gypsy" on some shows on The Wild Heart tour.
I also love the end, where Stevie adds:
"I tried to win, and I lost again!"

OH!!!!!!!!!
I was just listening to the BEST "Rhiannon"!!!!!!
It's labeled "Rhiannon ~ Rehearsal 1975", and CMcV introduces the song and Stevie, and it's PERFECT!!!!!
However... During the guitar solo before Stevie starts the "Dreams unwind..." part, the guitar solo keeps looping over and over, like a stuck record! The song never returns to Stevie before it ends!!!!!
This isn't the 1975 King Biscuit Flour Hour/Rock Hoppers Live 1975 version (which JMcV introduces), but a totally different (BETTER! IMO) "Rhiannon".
Does anyone have this????????

No, someone sent me a (very) flawed CD a few months ago of Live Stevie songs. There were also her songs from St. Louis 1979, but I could not get them to play.
This "Rhiannon" is SO much better than the King Biscuit live version! There's some audience noise before CMcV introduces the new song called "Rhiannon" by Stevie Nicks. It's perfect stereo sound, not an audience bootleg. Just incredible!!!
But it's fkeucd up during the guitar solo, repeating itself, and ends before Stevie's "Dreams unwind" even starts. Some technical glitch in the CD transfering, I guess.
SO frustrating to have this RARE Live EARLY "Rhiannon" and only 5/8ths complete ~ and no Screaming Stevie!!!!! :)

How does it compare with "Rhiannon" from the Rosebud documentary? That seems to be the DEFINITIVE performance of the song. I've never found another performance as powerful and spontaneous as that. Has a stereo recording ever circulated from the Rosebud performance?

Yeah, I found it!! LOL I spent quite alot of time this morning downloading there!
This "Rhiannon" is pretty good - but I still think the Rosebud version is THE definitive performance of this song. The Midnight Special was close and she looks gorgeous, but once again - it isn't as spontaneous. The whole "dreams unwind..." (which is the BEST part ;-) ) seems almost rehearsed, or that she's trying to recapture the spontaneousness (is that a word?!) of Rosebud. The lyrics don't make much sense, yet do during Rosebud. She just seems to become "possessed" and really "lost in the song" during Rosebud.

I was just listening to "Farewell Failure" from one of the 1975 BNicks concerts. Okay, I've seen this listed as written by Javier Pacheco of Fritz. However, Fritz never let Stevie perform any of the songs she'd written, so, why, after being out of the group for so many years, why would Stevie sing one of his songs at one of BNicks' farewell concerts?
What I'm wondering is if "Farewell Failure" is really written by Stevie, and that's why she's singing it in 1975. She certainly sings it wonderfully!
It would be nice to have another early, ultra-rare, barely known song (like "You Won't Forget Me") identified as written by Stevie.

After they dumped Fritz, they moved to L.A. That's where Stevie was the waitress, the cleaning lady, etc. However, I think they said that although the Buckingham Nicks album flopped, they were very popular in parts of the South, like Alabama and Florida. That's why the Farewell Tour went there for the diehard fans.

I think it's one of their band members. He's just introducing them as being from LA. In another one of those shows the guy actually says, "We're all the way from LA, California just for you people..Buckingham Nicks".
They did play in LA - with Waddy Wachtel before BN was released. From Waddy's Q&A:
"...And then we . . . had another friend. George, or Jorge, Calderon and he played bass with us. So we started playing gigs around town. The four of us. You know when I met Stevie, and I heard her sing I was already very much into Dolly Parton at that point— which was wild, because I never heard a note of country music when I lived in New York. But when I moved here, I was like, "Wow, what's this stuff? Country music? Wild." And so I gave her [Stevie] a Dolly Parton album. And I said, "you've got to learn this girl's work. You've gotta get a load of this chic!" And she couldn't believe it. And so we started gigging around town, doing Dolly Parton tunes, and other country songs, and couple of originals, and Lindsey and I would play guitar great together. So we just knocked around like that."
After they dumped Fritz, they moved to L.A. That's where Stevie was the waitress, the cleaning lady, etc. However, I think they said that although the Buckingham Nicks album flopped, they were very popular in parts of the South, like Alabama and Florida. Yeah, the DJ's in Alabama primarily were really playing their songs and apparently from the get-go. "Long Distance Winner" was getting some airplay in other markets too - like Cleveland and Houston. But, it was really the Birmingham area that caught onto BN.
Interestingly, I just read a review from a fan who remembered that BN opened a show in Birmingham in 1973 (the year BN was released) for the band Mountain. I always been curious about any '73-'74 dates. I wish we had bootlegs of those shows - the "Southern Safari" tour.
Here's a bit of rundown from Lindsey:
“During this time, despite the hardships, we had complete faith in what we were trying to do. We had managers who were trying to get us to do Top 40 stuff. They said they could get us all the gigs we could handle if only we’d be prepared to play that kind of music- but Stevie and I knew that if we did, we’d lose whatever musical direction we had, and we didn’t want to prostitute ourselves. So we resisted that, and as a result got no gigs....nobody wanted to hear Buckingham Nicks doing their own songs.
Well....almost nobody...because we had this very strange area of localized success....a little pocket of Buckingham Nicks- mania! Of the few gigs we had done two were in Birmingham, Alabama; the first was opening for MOUNTAIN, and the second was opening for POCO...and for some reason we really caught fire in that town. Some DJ’s picked up on the album, and it was a huge success there- so we went down a storm! If nowhere else in the world, Buckingham Nicks were stars in Birmingham, Alabama..”
“It so happened that our last gigs as Buckingham Nicks was at Birmingham just after we’d joined Fleetwood Mac. As a result of our two previous gigs we were booked as the headline act, and the lineup was ; Stevie Nicks-vocals; Lindsey Buckingham-guitar, vocals; Bob Geary-drums; Gary Hodges-drums; Tom Moncrieff-bass. So we topped the bill to an audience of 7,000- and Buckingham Nicks went out on a much higher note than anyone could have expected.”

Oh, I would love to hear her do that! LOL. But, she wasn't doing it when they were playing pre-BN release.... "Jolene"came out in '74. I can't hear Stevie doing "Coat of Many Colors", but that was Dolly's big solo hit they may have picked up on. I can hear her doing "Touch Your Woman" or "Lonely Coming Down". Great songs. Lindsey and Waddy could have done some mean picking on "Joshua" too.

Ah, pre-album release! Thanks for clarifying that!
BTW, question about Stevie's Fritz days, even if in the wrong thread. WHY did they only do either covers or Javier Pacheco songs??? History has shown us that the concert promoters wanted to book the group because Stevie was in it. There's even an article stating that Polydor was initially interested in Stevie as a solo artist, not Buckingham Nicks (according to the article).
So, why did the woman not get to sing a few of her own songs in Fritz?!
Javier has already stated that songs like "Gemini" and "See The World Go By" and "I Need You" are Stevie Solo Demos, not Fritz recordings, despite people labeling them so. None of the Fritz songs are written by Stevie.
However, she did have the above songs written, as well as "Rose Garden" and many more by 1968-1970. Why didn't the band record some of those as well as seemingly everything that plopped out of Pacheco's brain?
No wonder Stevie gives those guys zero credit in her career...

Well, I think the answer to your question is simple: Javier. From what I gather, he "ruled" the band and I think as Stevie - and Lindsey - started getting more creative and more into songwriting - and probably working together on songs - the tensions started running higher between Javier and Lindsey. That's probably when Lindsey decided being a control freak wasn't such a bad idea, after all. :) Oh, I remember Javier saying Lindsey had "Lola" and that he (Javier) wasn't too thrilled with it. I think their styles started diverging at that point.
But, as far as the Polydor thing goes - no that's not true. I have read that Stevie had a little development deal with RCA but it was really Fritz who was on the verge of that deal and as the story goes, their real interest was in Stevie and Lindsey. Why the deal went south with RCA I don't know - except that we have the period of a few months where they had moved back to N. California due to some mysterious illness. Thankfully, Keith Olsen was still championing them because they ended up with a deal with Anthem, the label I guess he was working with a lot because Waddy Wachtel actually had a single release on that label too. It may actually have been a subsidiary of Polydor or something...those things get so complicated.
Truly, I have never found any evidence that Polydor was ever interested in Stevie as a solo artist. She and Lindsey were pitched as a duo by Keith Olsen and Stevie herself has said that she really had no desire to be without Lindsey at that time as an artist. I think they were pretty excited about the songs they had worked on together and were sure they were the latest greatest thing...

Anyone heard of Stevie singing a song called "Deep Dense" A/K/A "Funny Kind of Love"? She supposedly wrote this one back then, too.
Stevie? No.
Lindsey did a song called "Deep Dense" sometime around the original GOS sessions. (the lyric "funny kind of love" is in that Lindsey song, as well)

But it's a Stevie composition, right?

Has Javier confirmed that he is the writer of "Farewell Failure"? I ask bacause I find it extremely odd that Stevie would sing a Pacheco song in 1975, so many years after she was free from his controlling ways when he wouldn't even let her sing her own compositions.
In Early 1975, after Buckingham Nicks had been out for a while and Stevie had just joined the semi-famous Fleetwood Mac, I really doubt she'd sing a song written by a man who never even let her perform her own songs 5 years before.
Anyone know for sure about "Farewell Failure"?

I'm asking Hoppy. Unless I'm mistaken he's the one who shared it via the BN site. I would think if Javier wrote it he would have posted it on his sites. Someone else may know for sure but I believe it's Stevie's song.

But Javier said Stevie's lyrics were the same, except maybe she used to speak with a lisp and Lindsey thought she said "dense" when she really said "sense."
Javier said her lyrics back then were: "Well there's a deep sense of a funny kind of love, ...when you look back on the way it really was. Kind of like a marriage after it has broken up; Well, there's a deep sense of a funny, ...kind of love."

Ooh, thanks for checking! That would be awesome to have another Stevie-written early song confirmed! I love "Farewell Failure"!
BTW, that Sydney 1980 "Sara" you posted is the best version I've heard! Thanks for posting it!!!!!! (Are Stevie's other songs from that show available? Greedy me!!!!!) :)

This is a Lindsey song I believe. I have a cd with a bunch of Lindsey things on it. And there are 2 versions of Deep Dense on there.

It's a Lindsey demo, but it was written by Stevie - he changed a few words. It dates back to Frtiz, per Javier Pacheco. A recording earier than the GOS demos by either Frtiz, BN, Stevie or Lindsey hasn't surfaced yet though.

Right on Deep Dense...
Also, Gary Hodges tells me that Farewell Failure is a Stevie song they worked up for the BN shows. He said (not surprisingly) that BN never did any Fritz songs. So there ya go...

I thought that "Take Advantage Of Me" was cool in that it was so different for Stevie to sing that kind of song. I could hear Barbra Streisand singing it in 1970, circa Stony End.
Here's a non-expiring link for it if anyone needs it:

I just uploaded "Farewell Failure" to my own Mediafire account, so the link will never expire:

Since Stevie wrote both "Farewell Failure" and "You Won't Forget Me", she needs to try to bring them both back, as they are excellent songs!

That's right! Think maybe Lindsey tried to break up with Stevie over the phone in 1974? ;)
I guess there was always drama on that stage!

I always think of his little stint with the Everly Brothers when I hear that song. I love how Lindsey mimics a busy signal on his guitar. Like, "I tried to call!" LOL!!

How did I never come across this song before?? That was amazing! I loved it. Thank you so much for uploading it again, Mike!
And by the way, I almost choked on my sour patch watermelon when I heard Stevie say, "This is serious." Red Rocks foreshadowing.
