Someone asked me today who had a more loyal fan base and to tell you it's hard to say because
both groups of fans hold each performer is such high reguard. I know you can't compare the
deadheads to anyone but if you think about stevie's fans and the following she has had since the 70's
then you can tell that her fans are like no other. I think they match up pretty well...it's a tie.

I'd have to think the Deadheads are a bigger group. They've certainly been around longer. Stevie fans sure would give them a run for their money when it comes to rabidity though!

Lets put it this way Gerry Garcia is dead and they still go to the concerts.

The Dead were famous for:
1. Performing 3 hour shows
2. Performing different songs every night of their tours
3. Encouraging their fans to audio tape the shows
If Stevie did these things, I would go to many more shows. Wouldn't you?

No kidding! Exactly why I haven't seen Stevie or the Mac since Stevie toured with Tom Petty in '06 I think it was?

Methinks someone is overrating the relevance & significance of "Night Of a Thousand Stevies" JUST a smidge.

Yeah, sorry, but it's probably clearly the Dead fans though.

I gotta say that its the Deadheads. My step dad went to a Grateful Dead concert and was selling acid to the hippies and took what as left and passed out, he woke up without his hat. (Something along those lines). I like some of the songs by them but haven't really gotten into them, I have a greatest hits of them. i read that alot of famous people are Deadheads, Al Gore, Bill Clinton, etc.

GREAT POINTS! The distinction is vast. Aren't Stevie fanatics know as Chiffon Heads?

i think Stevie Nicks is an acquired taste. Many people i know can't stand her looks or her "goat-like" voice. Also, my dad doesn't really like how some of her songs can be 7 minutes long in studio form and he says she overuses 'well". HAHAHAH
But definetly, for the Stevie fans that exist, they are the best and most loyal!

The coke-heads always beat the stoners! We stay energized throughout our shows and buy lots of merchandise while the dead heads nod off and make multiple trips to the snack bar.

These two fan bases are too different to compare. You should try comparing Eagles/Mac fans maybe.

I don't think it's the same at all.
Grateful Dead fans are more about a culture, almost a way of life. Nicks fans not so much.
There's so much more going on at a Dead show than a just a band performing and adulating fans ogling at the slightest nuances of their beloved performer. At a Dead show, you have the party going on in the parking lot (and lot's of them), areas in the arena where people are not in the arena, but in areas to dance and trip in their own world. The Dead is a true jam band.
Nicks is no different than say, Neil Diamond. Another performer who has been around for more years than Nicks and still packs a stadium with fans wanting to see Diamond. There's not much else going on.

while this is true, i can honestly say Stevie Nicks is a way of life. Especially in the way people dress like her and literally LIVE through her songs...

I was fortunate enough to experience a Grateful Dead show back in 1994. I could also understand how one would need an " aquired " taste for them as well. Someone might not be able to appreciate their " looks, or even their never ending jams at their concerts either ". But I can comment that I totally enjoyed the experience, and I think they had/have an incredible following of loyal fans, big time. Mellow and just there to enjoy the music and well maybe a few other things.

Although you tend not to see a lot of people dressed up as Neil at his shows. Also, to my knowledge there is no "Night of a Thousand Neils" but I could be mistaken .

That's cool. I saw The Dead 3 times (Fri, Sat, Sun) in 1995? right before Jerry died. Definitely something I'm glad I experienced but not something I'd ever want to experience again. They definitely have their own culture though. Most of us would prefer sitting up close than spending the day on the lawn.
