They just aired a segment of those lost in the past year and totally passed over Farrah??? How can that be?

I'm only guessing, but I think maybe all or almost all of Farah Fawcett's movies were actually "made for TV movies." So I don't think the Academy would "pay attention" to her. I don't mean that they would do that in a "disrespectful" way; just that her movies wouldn't really be considered a part of the categories they ordinarily pay attention to. She'd be eligible for an Emmy, not an Oscar, for example.
But by the way, I thought her performance in "Extremities" was *astonishing.*
And I haven't seen "The Burning Bed," but I've heard similar remarks about her
performance in that.
i.m.o. she was a very talented actress! :)
I'm sure most members of the Academy would agree with that;
and would feel that she VERY much deserved the Emmy she received;
and that she would deserve a really heartfelt tribute at the Emmys Award Show.

Actually, "Extremities" was released in theaters, as well as the following:
The Cookout, See You In The Morning, Saturn 3, Sunburn. Granted, she wasn’t Meryl Streep but still, not to mention her? Me no likie. :(

In that case, I agree; somebody dropped the ball there.
I don't get it at all, she was very well-liked and a talented actress.
So yeah - I dunno.
Except - maybe the people they show are ONLY ones who have received an Academy Award? (Or at least were associated with an Academy Award-winning picture?) .........

I mean, they included Michael Jackson, wasn't he only in "The Wiz"? If so, they definitely should have included Farrah – shame on them.

Don't forget Somebody Killed Her Husband, Dr T & The Women and Logan's Run! LOL.
However, her best non-TV film role was The Apostle. Outstanding.

Apparently CNN noticed this - I think maybe a LOT of people have noticed it - - - and they've created a blog basically asking, "....WTF!? " They also raise the issue of "Why Michael - and yet not Farrah?" No mention of Bea Arthur, I believe - mostly it's about Farrah. Roger Ebert called it a "snub."

I heard the Oscar people made a blanket statement regarding her absence saying that its impossible to include everyone that passes away in the segment...if that's the best they can come up with, they would have been better off to just not say anything at all. How ridiculous!

I agree. It is very dissapointing. Farrah was not a "silly blonde". Maybe Charlie's Angels didn't show her real talent, but she did made good films. Extremities was very good.
And yes it was noticed by everybody. Even in Lima, headlines mentioned it. shame on the academy!!

Extremities floored me!
P.S. - Remember the scene where the other two women - the neighbors - start crying?
Tears streaming down their faces?
I bet you any amount of money they asked the Director,
"What should we do, use 'Method Acting' or something?"
and the Director told them, "Uhm . . . . Don't worry about it." ... ;)

P.P.S. - - I just looked on Wikipedia - - - The winner for Best Actress in 1986 - - the year "Extremities" came out - - was Marlee Matlin, for "Children of a Lesser God."
Her performance, of course, was FAR superior to Farrah's because . . . uhm . . .
uh . . . wait, I KNOW this! . . . . ;)
Other nominees that year were Jane Fonda for "The Morning After," Sissy Spacek for Crimes of the Heart," Kathleen Turner for "Peggy Sue Got Married" and Sigourney Weaver for her Earth-shattering, rock-our-world, forever-etched-in-our-brains performance in - uhm - "Aliens?" ....

another argument is that she was a MEMBER of the academy and MJ wasn't, which really has some people fuming!

As some of you have mentioned, Extremities is an amazing performance. Anyone see it on stage?

They started at 8:30. (5:30 Pacific.) Which uhm - seems unneccesary - and unexplained - to me. If they had started at the normal time it seems to me
that they would have had plenty of time. And hey, in years past they've had
NO problem at all running over by as much as an hour or more. So for me
the "time" argument doesn't wash, either.
Not mentioning Farrah? B-
Trying to weasel out of it and not simply saying "Mia Copa?" PRICELESS Epic Fail!

It was creepy that Farrah was left out, to think there is someone, or persons, who say 'Nope' and deliberately not flash her photo for half a second- someone should lose their job over it.
No, Farrah didn't have a major film career, still, she belonged there in the tribute. (Dom DeLuise had more of a film career than Farrah??)
Robert Duvall praised Farrah for her work in 'The Apostle' which was fairly recent, and Robert Altman used her in his unliked 'Dr. T and The Women'-- It would have been a perfect thing, and really have showed class, if Jeff Bridges had remembered to mention Farrah when he won- they were both young, vibrant and gorgeous when Farrah chose him as co-star for 'Somebody Killed Her Husband' circa 1977, and 3 and a half decades later, she's dead, and he's winning an Oscar. But it's likely he may have forgotten that film, most people have.
I'm glad others noticed (and started this thread) that the Farrah snub was really, really low.

Hey, you got it! Good for you. High five.
Anyway, it was ****ty that Farrah got left out. I thought those "farewell to these dead people" things always included everyone & their brother (I know there have been several where I said to myself "who the hell is that?" or "what the hell did HE ever do in that industry?") Very odd that this year they suddenly decided to pick & choose who to include.
BTW - apparently Ricardo Montelbaun was also left out. Hello, Naked Gunn? Wrath of Khan? If you're going to include Britany Murphy, you should damn sure include the rest.

^ I am pretty sure Ricardo was included in last years show... he died in Jan of '09. Did that make the cut?? I am pretty sure I remember seeing him in some sort of awards tribute
