Can't resist starting a thread about this after reading the great discussion about Purple Rain.
I have a little theory I'd like to throw out there - -
"Little Red Corvette" was about Stevie. AND - - -
There's more to the story about when she heard it while driving down the road on her honeymoon. . . .
It wasn't, "OH this is COOL I LIKE this!" It was, "PULL OVER!!! PULL OVER! GET TO THE NEAREST
STORE! I'm going to KILL him!"
She was f'g FURIOUS!!!
Discuss.... :)

"I guess I shoulda closed my eyes
when you drove me to the place
where your horses run free.
'Cause I felt a little ill
When I saw all the pictures -
Of the jockeys that were there before me -
Believe it or not, I started to worry -
I wondered if I had enough class.
But it was Saturday night - -
I guess that makes it all right."

I don't know, but I've always been intrigued by their friendship. All these little stories and anecdotes from her, but nothing from his side, he even "denies" he had anything to do with Stand Back, no pictures of them together.
I wonder if Prince was Stevie's little, imaginary friend?

Really? I never knew Prince denied Stand Back...I've heard Stevie say that she gave him co-writer credit even though she didn't have to...I wonder if he also denied monetary credit? (not that he needed it, but I'm curious...)

If he wrote it about her then it implies that she's a slut. Being that the song has nothing to do with a car I can't imagine any woman would be pleased to learn the song is about her. The part about the woman carrying around used condoms paints quite a picture doesn't it? Somehow that doesn't sound like Stevie.
"She had a pocket full of horses, trojans and some of 'em used...."

I never thought that "Little Red Corvette" had anything more to do with "Stand Back" than about 75 percent of its chord progression.
I think Stevie harped on the Prince connection at that time merely to publicize the fact that she knew him & brought him into the studio for a couple of parts -- like the way she talked about Dylan in 1994.

Didn't you know there was an alternate video for Little Red Corvette featuring Stevie doing cartwheels on a little red corvette? I personally think that's the version that should have made the cut instead of the official one of him singing it on stage.

I know Lindsey said that Prince came to their show once.

I actually find it endearing in a bizarre sort of way.

Is this for real? He really writes stuff like this? (I've never listened to a Prince song in my life, and now I'm even more glad about that.)
Does he just copy what he reads on men's room's walls?
Why doesn't he just write scripts for porn movies?
Anyone could write 50 songs like this in about three minutes.

No, he doesn't "just copy what he reads on men's room's walls", he's a great songwriter and an amazing artist. If you don't listen to his songs you're missing out on some really good music. Purple Rain is a friggin CLASSIC, you think it would've gotten that status if it was written like a script for a porn movie?!

Well that's really just one example out of a ton of great songs to choose from. Still yet, he truly is a legend. If you can't give Purple Rain a chance, you should try Musicology, at least that's my favorite album of his :D

Well, he's a musician too. So, if the lyrics fall short, he does have something to back them up that involved a bit more than 3 minutes to create.
And he ain't a bad performer either. So, used trojans or not, I got into that corvette many times 20-some years ago.

No no no, you got it all wrong. The alternate video to Little Red Corvette had Prince driving his little red corvette through the burning of Atlanta during the Civil War. And he pulls up to Stevie's porch and she's going "What am I doing here, and what's with all these chickens?". And then the camera pulls back and it's not really the burning of Atlanta but just a bonfire in someone's backyard in Beverly Hills (but they were young so they didn't care).
They had to scrap the whole video because Prince felt he looked too short. :blob2::blob1::blob2:

Hee hee  and he didn't have enough of a dance solo in that version.
