Well the girl started off well singing Landslide on American Idol, but then it kind of drifted and got strange. The judges didn't like it, although the SONG did get some good "well, I love that song but..." compliments from the judges, and Randy Jackson did say that it was a "Stevie Nicks" song (is it weird that I like hearing Stevie's NAME mentioned on TV? lol)...What did you guys think?

You are not alone getting excited just by the sheer mention of "Stevie Nicks" on television. It is just so cool that after all these years, she is still in the sub conscious of pop culture.

And as far as the singing... goes to show that not just anyone can sing a Stevie Nicks song, ya gotta have some talent.

I was hoping for the best, but that contestant butchered the song. It was painful to watch/hear. The only good thing was how all the judges noted their love of the song. It's not only a Stevie classic, in general, it's a world-wide classic.

I remember a few years ago when Tom Petty did the halftime show at the superbowl (I wasn't a big fan of him yet so i didn't know the songs) and Stevie was mentioned as one of the ppl he worked with :D << that's how big my grin was lol. I smile every time i hear her name mentioned at unexpected times.
makes it seem like a have a huge crush lol

I don't even want to think about that performance because it was terrible and for some reason the girls really suck this year. There are a few that i actually like tho.

Lacey Brown gets buried for 'Landslide'
9:09 PM By Glenn Gamboa

Lacey Brown has a tough time with Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide.” She sings behind the beat for a while and her quirky vocals don’t always make a lot of sense. She has a good voice, though.

Randy says it’s terrible and pitchy. Ellen says she’s better than that. Simon says it was depressing and kind of indulgent. Kara says she should go to Sixpence None the...

Just one word went through my head while Lacey Brown covered Fleetwood Mac's "Landslide": forlorn.

We're back and Lacey Brown is up next. She's singing one of my favorite songs! - "Landslide" as performed by Stevie Nicks. It's tougher to win over people with these slower songs, but I thought she did OK given the material. Randy: "I thought it was terrible ... pitchy." Ellen: "I just didn't think it worked out." Simon: "It was just boring, sorry." Kara: "I do hope that America gives you one more shot."

American Idol: The Wonderful World of Odd
Her take on Fleetwood Mac's “Landslide” was a little depressing like Simon said, and I kept waiting for her to find herself. I think she needs to embrace that almost-warbly country tone in her voice and go all out with it, ...

That is...horrible :distress:

Why can't they leave Stevie's songs alone?

Why can't they at least do Seven Wonders or something not as legendary haha

i heard the landslide while watching one tree hill on monday and it fit perfectly in the show. the 3 sisters on the show were losing their mother to cancer and they played that song during the scene where she passes away and then they finished the show with sheryl crow's i shall believe. 2 of my fav songs!!

I agree with you about Landslide. But the other performance by that group of kids who did Dreams, I enjoyed that performance. Only two of those kids sang off key, but the lead singer was really good IMO. And I know I'm the only one here who thinks so.

Her performance sounded to me like the Smashing Pumpkins version. It sounds like she was basing it more on that than Stevie's or even the Dixie Chicks version.

Three Things About Last Night's American Idol: In Which a Perfectly Nice Fleetwood Mac Fan Gets Crapped On By Four Grown Millionaires

Women go first this year and the batch is almost cynically diverse. There's a busking white girl in dreads (Crystal Bowersox, who did double duty on acoustic guitar and harmonica), a black female country singer (Haeley Vaughn), a "quirky" girl (Lilly Scott), and a precocious ingénue (Katie Stevens). Perfect for montages, these ladies are. But the early frontrunners (Bowersox, Stevens) hardly made an impression this week. Instead a couple of outliers emerged, for better and worse. And Randy Jackson actually took a position.

THE GOOD THING: Cape Cod oddball and apprentice glassblower (!) Siobhan Magnus, she of the jean jacket/baby doll dress/legwarmers/Chuck Taylors ensemble during Hollywood Week, was caught during her pre-taped interview asking a producer what the term "dark horse" meant, God bless her. In her modified cheongsam (that's pronounced CHONG-sam), Siobhan (that's pronounced SHA-von) looked older and duller this week—she's 19—but delivered an almost creepily composed—but dark and torn-asunder—performance of Chris Isaak's 1989 hit "Wicked Game." She said she chose the song because it's "so haunting." The judges were impressed but also mystified by the mechanical-in-person, transfixing-onstage singer. We were just impressed.

THE BAD THING: Sixteen-year-old Haeley Vaughn is a niche dream come true. The Fort Collins, Colorado native auditioned for the show with a chirpy version of Idol Season Four winner Carrie Underwood's "Last Name." Immediately theories were floated: Could this be our first black female country siren? Um, no. For her big moment, the ever-smiling Vaughn eviscerated the Beatles' "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" (hear it here) with yodeling, down-home inflection, and a really weird rearranged bridge. Randy Jackson, Kara DioGuardi and new judge Ellen DeGeneres (inessential all night) had kind words for Vaughn; Simon Cowell (cranky, but not his typically incisive self) said it was "verging on terrible" and "a mess." None of this was particularly revelatory. Then Ellen, perhaps unaware of the social history of what she was about to say, shrieked "If it was a mess, it was a hot mess." So yeah, Ellen called a young black girl a "hot mess" on national television last night. No big deal.

THE OTHER THING: There's always a bit of cognitive dissonance between the judges and the viewing public in these early-season episodes. None seemed as egregious as the tongue-lashing delivered to Lacey Brown, who was eliminated last year during Hollywood Week. Back with a new lease, she attempted Fleetwood Mac's harder-to-sing-than-you'd-think "Landslide" (hear it here) and pulled off a few neat tricks, including a terrific harmony with an unseen backup singer. Okay, so it wasn't perfect. But come on:
Ellen: I think you're better than that. I think it didn't work out.

Kara: Your falsetto was forced.

Simon: It was quite depressing. It was just boring. You have nice eyes.

Randy: [who is normally the King, or at least the Deputy Mayor, of Non-Statementville] It was terrible.

We can't recall the last time Randy called anything "terrible." And yet Lacey, easily better than about half of the bunch last night, may be in serious peril.

TOMORROW: Twelve dudes try not to sound like Justin Guarini.—Sean Fennessey

Lacey Brown
Song: "Landslide" by Fleetwood Mac

Umm, did she say/sing land-side?? I backed up my DVR 5-times and never heard an "L" in it. Yikes!!! I was cheering for Lacey, but she butchered my favorite female song of all-time. I found myself wanting to hear her male backup singer take over because he was doing a much better and more interesting job at the vocals.

I am now begging Crystal to do Stevie Nicks & Fleetwood Mac right. Please take me up on my plea from a previous blog and sing this song for America.

Lacey, I leave you with the poetics of our theme tonight..."You live you learn, you lose you learn." Best of luck in your musical future Miss Brown.

Something happened and my DVR didn't record AI. I heard she was singing this and wanted to see it. But damn that was bad. I was really hoping to hear some Mac/Stevie this season, but so far everything has been a total dud.

Wanted to slaughter the "Landslide" woman. Somewhere, Fleetwood Mac and the Baby Jesus cried. They cried together.
