Any Mac fans also Iris Dement fans?

[TrueFaith77]

I often say that Iris Dement is the greatest thing to hit music since Son of Bazerk in 1991 (which certainly speaks not only to my taste, but also my eclectic taste).

Anyway, I've attended 3 Iris Dement concerts. Each one features more new material and/or new "covers" (fleetwood mac, take note). Here are some of those "new" songs that have appeared on YouTube. For Dement fans hungry for a new album (last one was 2004, and last one with original material was, i think, 1996)--here's some links you might enjoy to tide you over til the new album (rumoured to drop in 2010). For those not initiated, I hope you are as moved and beguiled as I am.

I am a big fan - and yet I didn't know about new songs - so thank you very much!!!
I have seen her several times, but I have also purchased tickets twice for shows and then have had to sell them because I was sick.

[TrueFaith77]

cool, rag. hope that these tide u over til the new album.

I have seen Iris twice in concert. I love her unusual voice and unique writing style. I'm a big fan of her My Life album. Some of my favorite songs are "Wasteland of the Free," "No Time to Cry," "Easy's Gettin Hard Everyday," and her version of "God May Forgive You But I Don't."

[Clark]

I first heard her on a duet with John Prine - "In spite of Ourselves" - a delightful tongue in cheek romp. Then I heard her with the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band singing "Mama's Opry". When I looked for her music, I found "Our Town" - I was hooked. What a wonderfully quirky voice. Raw emotion and great lyrics. What's not to like?

[Rod]

Thanks for sharing these. I loved her first three albums but have mostly lost track of her since then. It'll be good to catch up.
