Michelle Branch just posted this on her Twitter:
No pressure, just singing Say You Love Me in front of Stevie Nicks for the Fleetwood Mac tribute record. She's producing this track 4 me!

Why on earth is there going to be another tribute album? Didn't Stevie herself say she hates them because tributes are for people who are
dead?
Is Fleetwood Mac officially dead? Why is she wasting her time with this when the actual Fleetwood Mac could be doing new music for a new album?

Obviously, we know she produced Bombay Sapphires on Trouble In Shangri La. I, too have wondered exactly what the extent of her producing entailed. But honestly, she's been Lindsey Buckingham's musical partner for what, over 40 years now? She's recorded 7 Fleetwood Mac studio albums, 6 solo studio albums, and has recorded countless songs for various other projects... I'd have to think after all this time, after all her experiences, she'd have to of picked up some production knowledge :).
Regarding the never ending whining about Stevie "posers" and "wannabees"... seriously guys, get a grip. Stevie's in show business. That involves working with other people who are in show business. I'd be willing to bet that much of the time, these little pairings we've seen with Stevie this past decade have been management orchestrations to begin with. And even if that's not the case, why the hell would anyone care? In the end, these little girls who are hanging out with Stevie always get her some form of press... even if it is minute. And that's never a bad thing for any celeb. Even after Taylor Swift's less than swift performance at the Grammys, I can assure you both Taylor AND Stevie's album sales saw a small bump. Even amidst the cries for Taylor to throw in the towel.
Regarding why Stevie would be producing a Christine song, it probably has to do with the fact Michelle Branch is recording it. They're clearly friends... friends help friends. Friends like to do stuff together. Has anyone stopped to think that Stevie might have her fingers in the production of this whole album? Probably not since everybody is too busy bitching and nailing themselves (or Stevie) to the cross.
Honestly guys, I'm getting very, very sick of the "nobody is good enough to work with/be friends with Stevie" schtick. Stevie's just a human being. She eats, sleeps, breathes, and takes a crap like the rest of us. She just happens to be in the music business. So does Michelle Branch. It's just another day at the office for them, folks!

I might be in the minority on this but Stevie working with Michelle and Vanessa has never bothered me. They do seem to have more substance than a lot of people out there these days and, of course, those are the kinds of people I would want Stevie to collaborate with...people who are really talented as opposed to being successful because they can be marketed to the public.
I wonder how long this has been planned and why she decided to get involved. If she's doing it as a favor to Michelle, I think its really sweet of her. If she actually has more involvement in it that we just don't know about yet, isn't that kind of weird for a tribute album?? I mean, if other people do it, then its a tribute...but if you work on it too, even behind the scenes, then you're really just paying tribute to yourself :p
I also think its a good thing that she's in the studio, even if its to help someone else out atm. Hopefully, being in that environment will inspire her to get in there herself or to get the rest of FM together. At this point, I don't care if its solo or FM, I just want to know that something great is on its way

I don't think that anyone is taking Stevie to task just for the sake of being a mean ol' bully. Yes, she is in the business and does collaborations. But what about them halcyon days when she worked with collaborators who were actually worth two ****s- Tom Petty, Don Henley, Warren Zevon... and I'd even begrudgingly give the thumbs up to Kenny Loggins and Sheryl Crow. But for crikeys sake... Jesse Camp? Michelle Branch? Taylor Swift? Vanessa Carlton? W. T. F. I can understand her maternal instinct would compel her to mentor younger musicians... but there are so, so many young, truly talented, truly wonderful talents out there... It really does make one wonder whether all those kilos of cocaine have finally incurred some permanent damage to her brain.

I don't know why, but it makes me wonder if there is some sort of Fleetwood Mac package coming out like Stevie's Crystal Visions? I know Warner Brothers was going to release that 4 disc thing of Rumours last year, but it never happened... maybe they decided to instead make a Fleetwood mac greatest hits album with possibly some DVD behind the scenes footage and music videos with commentary, and then including a CD of covers. I could just see it being a 3 or 4 disc thing. One disc of greatest hits, one or two discs with music videos and "The making of Rumours" or other footage, and then one disc of covers. Maybe it is just a long shot, but I think maybe WB didn't want to scrap the whole thing but realized it probably wouldn't sell well to do ANOTHER thing of Rumours, so they've redesigned the packed and instead of focusing on Rumours, have broadened its range to encompass the past 35 years. What do yall think??

I am glad to hear someone say all of this. First, I am excited that Stevie (and Fleetwood Mac) are not forgotten. They/she just seems to be all over pop-culture latley, the grammys, and American Idol are HUGE. I had an attendant at the gass station tell me I cant believe that they thought they could pull off fleetwood mac on AI (cause he knows im a fan) and before you know it, THE ENTIRE LINE of 6 or 7 people in that station were all talking about FLEETWOOD MAC. It is an Honor to have a tribute album by artists that are worth while. I liked the Rumours tribute, i love the googoodolls, and matchbox20 ect. there was not a tribute to the rest of their music, only rumours, THAT is a good reason for ANOTHER tribute album folks. MICHELLE BRANCH IS A DAMN COOL CHICK. I KNOW THA FROM A PERSONAL EXPERIENCE. ALSO, Shes not a sudden "hanger on" she has always been up-front about her love for stevie and fleetwood mac and their music.

I definitely see where you're coming from, and understand and respect your qualms. To me, I think it's a very calculated thing the people Stevie has chosen to collaborate with this past decade. I for one am glad she's not only working with other geezer rockers... that's not forward motion. She worked with people like Tom Petty and Don Henley back in the day because 1) She was probably banging them 2) Because they were her peers 3) Because it was her first album without her band... they probably figured she could use the support and help. And that needed support and help is exactly why Stevie has been holding court with such people as Taylor Swift, Vanessa Carlton, et al. Stevie is working with people who have some inherent talent, but it's still a bit raw and underutilized. I'd love to see Stevie working with higher quality new generation folks too (I have a not so short list ), but the likes of Imogen Heap, Feist, and other such young female artists really don't need Stevie. They've already found themselves musically, and are probably even more developed in their craft than even Stevie herself.
Regarding others who feel another tribute album isn't needed, or they don't like hearing others cover FM songs... again, I'm inclined to disagree. Any form of homage paid to FM is a good thing for the band's future plans, and especially, for their legacy. Again, any press is good press. And I know I'm in the minority here regarding Mac covers... but I really enjoy them. I love seeing how other artists can reinterpret a very old song that I've heard a million billion times, and breathe new life into it. Of course the original will always be the most dear to me, but honestly, hearing a GOOD cover helps me remember why I fell in love with the song, and this band in the first place.

Stevie was listed as co-producer on Egan's album too, even though we don't know what her producing duties were. Since Walter wrote that she and Lindsey often didn't work with him together, I think Stevie must have been doing some (albeit minor) production type work indepedent of Lindsey.

Louie - I couldn't have said it better myself! If she is working on the whole record, the remember that Mick Fleetwood was heavily involved in the Legacy album and there was plenty life left in the Mac after that. Also, if she is only producing one track then it hardly takes away from her writing and working on a Mac album - I would think it would be a couple of weeks worth at most.
I don;t get why people are so against a tribute album. It's not like there have been loads before. To my knowledge, and please correct me if I'm mistaken, but there's only been the tribute to Rumours itself, not the band and their other material.
I think Michelle doing Say You Love Me is the obvious choice. I would much prefer her to do That's Alright because of her more recent musical work (country-ish) but that's far too obscure a song to put on a tribute record. Bear in mind the way that the song has been performed on the Unleashed tour and even as far back as The Dance and I think that the prominence of guitars, banjo even if they go down that road, could work really well with this song.

Since Walter wrote that she and Lindsey often didn't work with him together, I think Stevie must have been doing some (albeit minor) production type work indepedent of Lindsey. "Production," in pop music, covers so many different activities. Remember, this is a woman who said she is unable to operate a VCR machine. The mental image of Stevie at a soundboard, operating levers & knobs, doesn't feel real to me. A producer can also stand in a control booth, listening to playback, & telling the engineers & artist(s) what she thinks of the overall vibe. I bet that more accurately describes Stevie's past & present production work.
Jimmy Iovine, in a long-ago OFF THE RECORD radio interview with Mary Turner, said much the same thing about Stevie's production contribution to the vinyl release of the live "Edge of Seventeen." Anyone have that handy?

Brandon, you're right. The Spirit Room was her (major label) debut album and her biggest record, thanks to the singles Everywhere and All You Wanted. It's a great album! I just wish that the follow up, Hotel Paper got as much attention because after a few listens it really grows on you, as the be albums often do.

Well, as much as I am not exactly thrilled about this project (and I'm no MB fan either), at least it's good to know that Stevie is in the studio (where she belongs!), and that she is working on musical projects, even if they are not her own. And since "RealStevieNicks" does not tweet, it's at least good to get some secondhand tweetage! It's definitely better than hearing about Stevie spending her endless free days walking on the treadmill and shopping for jewelry on QVC.

Seriously, I hate the idea of this album unless somebody did one of these things creatively--having one of the actual members of the original produce one of the songs is KINDA interesting. Strange that it's a Chris song. And I don't like MB.

This thread reminds me why I dislike 'social networking' sites so much, especially pointless ones like Twitter (tweet: I'm sitting home in my underwear doing crossword puzzles. Like who the **** cares?!!?).
I can't imagine some of the other 'tweets' this chick does, but I have a hunch they're redundant (bet she details how she had to sit at home more tomorrow).
And seriously- I hate to sound like some disgruntled Ledge type, but who cares if some musical hasbeen is working with the Mac or their material- it's gonna suck. Percentages aren't exactly in our favor.
I disliked the last (popular?) Rumours tribute album, most of it at least, and this bodes to be much much worse, at least the last one had artists on it I liked and respected and could take that out of it.
Woo, maybe we'll see a rap version of GYOW, or a Second Hand News with beatboxing, or Dreams the punk version!!
(BTW if any of these actually happen I will write a letter to Warner Bros.)

Stevie's "Bombay Sapphire" producer credit is in name only. The person who actually produced it was bought out of the project by the label.
Dallas Austin??

I wondering how Stevie feels about these leaks,I know she not fond about computers,in what way I dont blame her a bit,I would be pisted if somebody tweets my info around the world
about whats going on behind the scenes, inless I'm the one telling it.I'm not into the twitter thing myself.I probably have the same tweet count as the realstevienicks has.I just wait until late august when Stevie might shead some light on these projects at the shows.
Anyway I glad to see this tribute project is still in the picture.
