Then again if I was Stevie, I'd refuse to acknowledge her as a friend and remove all tracks of our "duet" from my mind.

Obviously none of you like Taylor.....agreed it was a bad performance. I have seen her sing live at many an awards performance and she nails it every time.....have any of you even listened to her albums? And she was surrounded by enemies who thought she shouldn't even be there......Beyonce, Kanye etc.... No wonder she did a dodgy job.

Well, chin up, and all of that--and you being a Taylor fan, it's good you will admit it was bad. As they often sang on American Idol:
. . . you had a bad day
You're taking one down
You sing a sad song just to turn it around
You say you don't know
You tell me don't lie
You work at a smile and you go for a ride
You had a bad day
The camera don't lie
You hurry back down and you really don't mind
You had a bad day
You had a bad day

Agree! I wouldn't be surprised in the least if Stevie gave her a little something special, especially if Taylor is as big of a fan as she has claimed.
Sooner or later, someone will interview her and comment on it and Taylor will tell the whole story..

She gives the Moons to friends, such as Bette Midler and Tai Babilonia (ice-skater) have them.
She gets them made by her personal jeweller, from the original one bought from England around the Tusk era.
I've seen black pendants, but I havn't seen Taylor's tan version.
I didn't think Taylor's was tan.. I assumed it was silver and just the lighting that makes it look a bit off.

I've ALWAYS been like that too..I remember when Smashing Pumpkins first redid Landslide...I was horrified! I remember thinking ..."great...all my friends who never liked Stevie and liked SP are all gonna jump on the bandwagon and like her just cause a band THEY liked redid her song"....all of a sudden she was cool to them when before she was nothing but a joke to them..."ewww you like Stevie Nicks? She's a witch...she's fat...she has no voice!" That's all I heard...I hated them for that!

Agreed! Stevie loves to mentor these young female singers who actually write their own songs. So I am not at all surprised that she agreed to the duet, and no doubt gave Taylor the necklace with all her blessings:xoxo:. I think Stevie is a class act with no pretentious bones in her body...which is a small part of why we love her.
While Taylor's music or voice may not be everyones cup of tea, and aside from her ill-fated Rhiannon performance, I for one can really appreciate that Taylor Swift has become successful in part by being a great young role model, who is well spoken and possess poise beyond her years. She has not lowered herself by wearing skimpy outfits or parading around in demeaning videos using the tired gimmicks of much of todays young artists. In that regard she is a breath of fresh air.
The blame of all this Taylor controversy some could say, should be directed at the producers of the Grammy's or even Waddy ( who serves as Stevie's musical director), who upon hearing the initial rehearsals, could have circumvented this disaster and suggested a more Taylor-made Stevie classic. Taylor would have been better suited for Landslide, Dreams or even Gypsy. Rhiannon has become a rock anthem and is way tooo heavy in depth and scope next to Taylor's sweet pop/country fare.

You certainly have a point. But when people rip on Stevie on these boards, it's usually because of a subpar performance, etc... NOT because of somebody who may have befriended Stevie. Trashing people's singing performances is one thing... but giving someone hell simply because they became friends with what seems to be a very decent person, is quite another in my book. When two decent people become friends, or show respect for one another, that's never a really bad thing in my book...

Precisely! If anything, Stevie's fans who wear the crescent moon necklaces are the "real" posers. After all... it's Stevie who wears the necklaces... and gives copies to those she admires. Last I checked, Stevie has given no Ledgies crescent moons personally. Instead, those who wear them are simply emulating such. Not that I think there's anything wrong with that at all... but stones should not be thrown in glass houses, as Remy pointed out!

fans exist in a sphere far removed from the nitty gritty human version of stevie, especially since stevie came of age as a celebrity in a time when there was no TMZ, 24-hour news, or paparazzi. stevie was allowed the luxury of cultivating her public image on her own terms, and has managed to maintain an air of sophistication and wholesomeness despite spending almost a third of her life as a drug addict.
i'm not interested in indicting stevie as a bad person, but to imply that fans have been more loyal than people who knew/know her in real life is a false and unfair analogy. as a fan, you get what stevie gives you and only what she gives you. and compared to other artists, it's really not much. this allows fans to create a fiction about stevie's real life in order to connect the dots in the stevie nicks scavenger game.
the people she surrounds herself with are people whose responsibility it is to essentially keep her segregated from reality. this is a woman who hasn't driven in over 30 years and probably couldn't tell you the price of a gallon of milk. this is a woman who thought her hair turned grey not because she was in her 40's but because she was going through klonopin withdrawal. this is a woman who gave prescription meds to her underling to see what kind of effect it had. if you've ever had a delusional person in your life, you know how difficult it is to sustain their fantasies and act as a buffer between them and the real world. you also know how quickly you can be tossed out of their favor if you disagree with them or offer them a view of reality or themselves that they dislike. this is the situation the people in stevie's real circle are in. and frankly, i don't blame some of them for getting sick of it.

Great post, Carrie. You're absolutely right... so many rabid Stevie fans feel as if they have some sort of entitlement to the woman... some sort of ownership. When in reality, we really don't know anything about who the REAL Stevie is. We know and love the public persona extremely well... but that's the extent of it.
I can honestly say that I'm just fine with that. Odds are, she's probably a pretty taxing and annoying person to be around in a day to day fashion. I have no doubts she's quite deluded and demanding... after all, she's been rich and famous pretty much all of her adult life... and before that, she was the daughter of a tycoon. She's made it a point of saying throughout her career that once she "made it," that she never looked at a price tag again, and really knows nothing of regular life. I think knowing her personally would probably sour me to her music... which I would NOT want.
I have somewhat comparable first hand experience of such people. My boyfriend is friends with a local Charlotte celeb couple. They're driven around in a $400,000 Maybach... own tens of millions of dollars in mansions/penthouses in just the Charlotte area alone, have a private jet, they hang out with some of the biggest sports and music stars in the world, etc. While this particular couple may be fun to spend an evening with once or twice a year, that's about all I can tolerate. They're extremely friendly, well meaning people... but their lack of understanding and patience for the real world is maddening. Even the way they expect their "friends" to elevate them... and jump through hoops for their time is blood curdling.
In the end, saying we know or even have a right to Stevie is like saying we know or have a right to our garbage collectors . We know both of their public personas and jobs very well. We generally know what to expect of them. But we know nothing of their day to day lives at home, or what goes on behind their closed doors. And why would we, to be honest?

This always came up when Michael and I would turn TMZ on. Fleetwood Mac's drama would be nowhere near as captivating as it is now, had it been chronicled by the media at the time. And people definitely would not be as quick to romanticize Stevie's drug years if she'd been hounded by the paps at the time. You know we would have had breaking news updates of Stevie arriving at Betty Ford.

no, you're right. nobody thinks lindsay lohan's struggles with drugs are poetic. in fact, several people on here who idolize stevie have made some redick comments about LL any time the "lindsay wants to portray stevie" story comes up. and it was the same thing when LL covered EO17. it's funny to me. in many ways LL is the latter-day stevie, between the drug issues, the fall from grace, and the looooong list of "romantic" partners. the biggest difference is that stevie got to do all of that in relative privacy. oh, and lindsay actually did have the ****ty upbringing to go along with her out of control behavior.

fwiw, I still wouldn't want her to portray Stevie. But not because I think Stevie is better, just that LL is too out of her mind these days to do anything properly. the people she surrounds herself with are people whose responsibility it is to essentially keep her segregated from reality. if you've ever had a delusional person in your life, you know how difficult it is to sustain their fantasies and act as a buffer between them and the real world. you also know how quickly you can be tossed out of their favor if you disagree with them or offer them a view of reality or themselves that they dislike. this is the situation the people in stevie's real circle are in. and frankly, i don't blame some of them for getting sick of it.

that's an interesting comment.
fans exist in a sphere far removed from the nitty gritty human version of stevie, especially since stevie came of age as a celebrity in a time when there was no TMZ, 24-hour news, or paparazzi. stevie was allowed the luxury of cultivating her public image on her own terms, and has managed to maintain an air of sophistication and wholesomeness despite spending almost a third of her life as a drug addict.
i'm not interested in indicting stevie as a bad person, but to imply that fans have been more loyal than people who knew/know her in real life is a false and unfair analogy. as a fan, you get what stevie gives you and only what she gives you. and compared to other artists, it's really not much. this allows fans to create a fiction about stevie's real life in order to connect the dots in the stevie nicks scavenger game.
the people she surrounds herself with are people whose responsibility it is to essentially keep her segregated from reality. this is a woman who hasn't driven in over 30 years and probably couldn't tell you the price of a gallon of milk. this is a woman who thought her hair turned grey not because she was in her 40's but because she was going through klonopin withdrawal. this is a woman who gave prescription meds to her underling to see what kind of effect it had. if you've ever had a delusional person in your life, you know how difficult it is to sustain their fantasies and act as a buffer between them and the real world. you also know how quickly you can be tossed out of their favor if you disagree with them or offer them a view of reality or themselves that they dislike. this is the situation the people in stevie's real circle are in. and frankly, i don't blame some of them for getting sick of it.

weasel my way out of this? dude, please.
i've already said i don't know the people in her posse. what i do know is that based on things that she has said and done, she is completely removed from reality. in order to maintain that, she has to be surrounded by people who are willing to shield her from it. this is an exhausting task.
and so is talking to you, frankly. you've made it clear that you dislike me. i don't like you, either, but i no longer respond to your posts because you never say anything that interests me. your posts to me in this thread are clearly an attempt to incite me so you can once again play the victim and complain about how mean i am.
if you think the overall point of my original post is wrong, you haven't said so. you haven't challenged my underlying message which leads me to believe you are nitpicking in order to a) undermine my post without having to use any intellectual elbow grease and b) get me to snap at you.

I can't believe people really think of her as wholesome. You're exactly right, though, you know. She was a drug addict. She was a "homewrecker" , (probably more than one "home", actually) and slept with everyone with dark hair and a guitar. Her life at 60 probably isn't what she thought it would be, and the last few interviews she's given sound pretty damn bitter. Whether she ended it with Lindsey 30 years ago or 10 years ago, she can't let go. She's not particularly a moral compass, but I still love her for it. I mean, really, she's LIVED in the past 40 years. I'm not even the age she was when she joined Fleetwood Mac, which gives me hope that my best years are hopefully ahead of me. Stevie isn't based in reality, but I don't think she ever really was. Was singing with Taylor a good choice? I don't really know...I don't think it was well researched, because if her people had seen a Taylor Swift concert, they would know that Taylor can't carry a tune in a bucket. But, I mean, she sure can sell records. Anyway, this is a long and meaningless post, but I just wanted to say that I agree.

The part about her being 60 and alone surprises me. Not in a "never saw it coming" way, considering her past, more like... I don't know... It's a little sad. She was the big sex symbol with all of this fame and fortune, but what did it get her?

Reminds me of Stevie saying that when everyone tells her that, she doesn't know if it's the truth or not.
After the concert, a visitor asks if she's aware of her influence on today's celebrities (Madonna, Sheryl Crow and Demi Moore have sung her praises). ''Well, it's hard to know if it's really true or if it's just someone saying it,'' Nicks says. ''If it is, I am proud of it. ''

I think Stevie has the kind of life she always wanted. She could have had a family but she wanted a career a lot more. It was that important to her. She has fame, money, fans, lovers, etc. She can go anywhere she wants to in a moment's notice. She can record an album immediately if she wanted to. She has a neice, she has goddaughters and godsons and I am sure they love her very much. You don't need to be a mother and grandmother to be loved by children. Stevie has many friends and she's still friends with ex's. Sounds like a wonderful life!!! Stevie looks great and she is beautiful. If her life was pretty lousy, she would look awful. She doesn't. There is more to Stevie Nicks than what we all really know. She looks like a happy woman and is gorgeous in her 60's. Being a mother and grandmother is wonderful but having $$$$, a limo at a moment's notice and a chance to go to Hawaii or Europe anytime I want sounds pretty darn good:lol:

I think this is really interesting because it seems to buy into the idea that Stevie throws around that being a mother/wife and being a rockstar are mutually exclusive. They're not. Plenty of women have managed to do both and enjoy having that balance in their life. Pat Benatar comes to mind right away as a woman in rock comparable to Stevie but one who is pretty famously married and has two children.

Well, they aren't rockers, but all of the Dixie Chicks have kids and 2 of them (the sisters Emily and Martie) underwent fertility treatment (and both have twins as a result) to become mothers. They take the kids on the road with them. They called the kids "the seven peeps" when they were touring. Since then, there's been an 8th child born.

Tai Babilonia wears a gold half-moon charm around her neck, given to her by Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac. The only time it ever came off was at the 1980 Olympics in Lake Placid, New York; she will never take it off again.
That year, an injury to her skating partner, Randy Gardner, caused them to withdraw from the Olympic competition. The two, dubbed "America's sweethearts," by the press and fans, saw their dreams of Olympic gold disappear.

No, I can't think of anyone (maybe Fergie will have kids some day:laugh:), but the way the scheduling was for FM after 1980, Stevie being in two bands wasn't any more strenuous or time consuming than if she'd just been in one.

To be fair, Patti actually stopped working for many years when she had her two kids, she was in "semi-retirement" raising her children and only made one album in the 1980s. She only really made her comeback in 1996 after her husband, Fred, died.

I am already getting tired of everybody talking about the Stevie and Taylor situation. Let's move on from this already. BTW, she's not a pop act. She's a country singer. She has just reached both audiences (pop/country) just like Shania Twain did. I like Taylor. I think she has a lot to look forward to in the future. She's no Stevie that's for sure, but I think she's going to be singing for a while. To be honest with you, I am, myself getting a little Taylored out if you know what I mean. She needs to get back into the studio and make another record before it's too late or she will be nothing more than a has been. Hopefully when she does make another record, she doesn't cover any Stevie tunes. Her voice just doesn't cut it. She should just stick to what she does best, her own stuff.

i wrote to tai once & asked her about her pendant from stevie~ she was so sweet & gracious in answering me~ she said that stevie had watched her & randy perform on tv, & stevie came down to the ice rink & gave her the neckalce~ she also told me how she only took it off once~
here's her site:

she has the nickfix as one of her links & you can see her stevie necklace in some of the photos~
thanx for bringing it up again michele, i loved tai & randy & her connection w/ stevie was always so magical to me~
Thanks for posting. I never knew she had one too.

Colbie's got one too. Noticed it this past weekend on Next Food Network Star - you can see it in the still from this video clip:

I saw that, Humberto and I were watching and when Colbie Caillat was wearing the moon I explained the significance to him. It's pretty cool that other people are wearing them.
