I don't think it's appropriate for people with slipped discs in their neck!

If you want to get fit and stay fit, then I really think you need to do classes at your local gym. You get good advice and support from the staff at a decent place and in my experience everyone in the classes is very supportive and provides more motivation than you'd get at home. Having a treadmill or bike at home is ok but you shouldn't lift weights alone unless you are 100% sure that your technique is right.
But good luck with it!:)

I'm picking up an elliptical tomorrow to have at the house. I finally had to admit that going to the gym is not an option for me. Really, the p90x is my husband and his son's. I thought perhaps I could tag along. I really probably can't hang and I appreciate everyone's input. I'm going to get my cardio strength back up via the elliptical and then see how I feel about weights. I do know what to do in terms of strengthening exercises for my neck/back. I was curious if anyone had tried the p90x.

p90x scares me. I'd rather go to the gym, however inconvenient it can be. I can never seem to follow those home movie/DVDs. At least GOING to the gym forces me to actually, you know, do what I need to do. lol I need that motivation.

I used to get up at 4:30am to go to the gym. Now that I have my daughter, I would have to get up earlier than that to make it work. I am not willing to do that. I suppose I could go in the evenings, but that would take time away from my child, and I'm not willing to do that right now either!
I am picking up my elliptical this evening, so I hope to be busting ass (not literally, of course) on it tomorrow morning at 5am! I figure if I can at least do cardio only, I will gain momentum and motivation to do more. I feel so lethargic and physically sapped. Plus, my clothes are too tight. :(

^ That's the only way I can do it too Jannie - at home (even before the kid, I always did better at home than at a gym.) I get up earlier than I have to just so I can squeeze in a 30-40 min workout on my eliptical 4-5 days a week. It's well worth it, IMO, and it doesn't take time away from my family.
As for the weight thing, Core Secrets worked really well for me to tone up; however, I agree with others that cautioned you about doing any sort of at-home program. I think CS is what helped f*ck up my neck even worse, and after more than 6 months of PT that didn't help much I finally needed cervical spinal fusion. I don't think it caused the problem, but it certainly didn't help it either.
I just started taking a pilates class, 1 day a week after work (it will be for 8 weeks total.) The instructor is very careful about making sure people are in proper position/alignment. It's helping me be very concious of my technique when exercising on my own - I kind of hear her voice in my head reminding me to stay in alignment, breathe, etc.

I tried the local YMCA's Pilate class last year and I should go back. I couldn't do more than 1/3 what everyone was doing, but at least it was *something*. I had one cervical fusion 8 years ago and I'm trying to stengthen myself to NOT have to have another (disc next to fusion is the problem now- be careful about that).
As an aside, you should PM me a picture of the kid- I'd love to see her!
