So, any of you all listen to him? I've recently kind of been checking out his music- it's kind of nice actually. Really digging Trouble right now. His music seems to be pretty chill.

I love him. I think my favorite song is currently "Winter Birds."

I saw him live back with his first album came out and I found his fans, well, a bit weird and kinda dull.

 That's what I think about LaMontagne. but, to each his own ;)

I remember when he was the musical guest on SNL, he played "You Are the Best Thing" and I thought it was amazing, and I downloaded just that track and listened to it so, so much. Never really got into much else till recently. Love "Trouble" (and the commercial with the dog!), "Shelter" is awesome and I'm loving the whole Gossip in the Grain album. He seems like the type of dude who puts on an awesome show if you are into that seeing his kind of music live. I wouldn't want to be too far from the stage for his show, I think he's the kind of guy I enjoy listening to and don't really feel the need to be physically present with his music, but I might give a show of his a shot if he comes around again.

A friend of mine gave me one of his albums about a year ago. I found his voice to be very grating... and his music to be pretty dull .

You probably wouldn't like much classic Laurel Canyon/70s singer-songwriter stuff then.

When I hear "Laurel Canyon", I think of Jackson Browne.... Crosby Stills & Nash...that sort of stuff. Not Ray LaMontagne. I wouldnt really put him in that league. But maybe in time...

Good music and a good story. Maybe not legendary or iconic but a nice Cinderella story and better than a lot of the crap that's out there.

No, absolutely not in the league of those artists you mentioned but definitely in that vein, that's all I meant.
Like I say, I was kinda put off after seeing him live but he's definitely going for that rootsy, 70s singer-songwriter thing.
Plus Dani likes him and she has fantastic taste.

I know- right? She's just marvelous!

Well you two are flattering! :)

I think Ray LaMontagne is great for what he is-- and that being said, he's DEFINITELY not for everyone. My appreciation for him is inconsistent but the songs I like, I love.

I love this genre though.

Heard Ray on SNL for the first time in the summer, liked his performance. Three more days. Love his voice and keyboard style. I download the song to my ipod and actually listen to it quite often. Is a grovin' tune.
