THE JACKIE FACTORY is thrilled to announce that their 20th annual edition NOTS 20 will be held on May 14, 2010 at the HIGHLINE BALLROOM in NYC. This year's moonlit, milestone edition was inspired by one of Stevie's most enduring and iconic songs, SISTERS OF THE MOON. Though Stevie has not performed this song much of late, it has remained a showpiece and staple of some of NOTS most thrilling performers past and present.

Already confirmed to perform are many Legends of Stevie Realness and audience favorites from all eras of the show. They include BELLADONNA (CALIFORNIA), SHERRY VINE and EPIPHANY, JUSTIN BOND, THE HOHOS, GYPSY WILDE, JAZMEN FLOWERS (MISSISSIPI), ADAM DUGAS, AMBER MARTEN & MIA THEODORATUS, HEATHER LITTEER, DD SPARKS (IOWA), ST. EVE, BILLY O, CHARLENE CORAN (COLORADO), THE DIVINE GRACE, VELOCITY CHYALLD, JONNY TINGLE, BROOKE HALEY (FLORIDA), DARLINDA JUST DARLINDA, PAIGE STEVENSON, BELLA LUNA, AMBER RAY and the HOUSE OF DOMINATION. Our all-Stevie, all-Fleetwood DJs are the much-loved CRAIG SPENCER, SAMMY JO and POISON EVE. Booking of both returning and new performers is still very much in process. For the latest news on our NOTS 20 bill, please check back at our website and/or subscribe to our newsletter at stevielist @ jackiefactory.com.

The Producers have begun reviewing new performers for this edition's limited debut slots - please email [email protected] for instructions on how to apply - through March 1 only.

To the 1100 Enchanted and truly Timeless fans who turned out for our largest edition to date, NOTS 19: SONGS OF RHIANNON on May 1, 2009 - our deepest thanks. This 19th annual edition was even more spectacular than the previous years, and the audience not only bigger but by far the best costumed. We love the energy and care that you bring to "The Night" every year, and your interpretations of Stevie looks past, present and future. Visit the NOTS 19 FLICKR set, where the producers posted favorite show photos.

SHOW HISTORY

NIGHT OF A THOUSAND STEVIES is the biggest and best-loved STEVIE NICKS fan event in the world, one of those great New York City spectacles that sparks travel from all around the globe. Born in 1990 at the tiny performance venue MOTHER, "The Night" has run for nineteen years, even inspiring the 2001 film GYPSY 83. Neither a contest nor a karaoke show, NOTS is the Stevie celebration ne plus ultra - a riot of shawls, lace, baby's breath, twirling, tambourines and great performance. This much-loved annual has hosted Stevie fans and celebrated guests and performers including DEBBIE HARRY, BOY GEORGE, COURTNEY LOVE, CYNDI LAUPER and so many more.

ABOUT THE JACKIE FACTORY

NOTS producers CHI CHI VALENTI, JOHNNY DYNELL and HATTIE HATHAWAY have been creating events together since the early Nineties, as part of a creative collective called THE JACKIE FACTORY NYC. "The Factory" brought over 450 themed weekly editions of JACKIE 60 to fruition over a decade in the 1990s, and currently produce dozens of spectacles a year in addition to NOTS, both in and out of New York City. This has been one of my lifetime goals. I have FAMILY in NY and I still haven't gone. Hell, I grew up in NY and never went. Basically, it would cost me airfare (or gas). I am going to speak with my best friend from HS and see if she is up for a road trip. I say this every year but I think I am going to do this.

Jason, am I too old? Am I too "straight"? Tell us more about the crowd.

thank you. I can't tell you what I'm performing. Chi Chi and I talked about a week ago and decided together on what I'd do. I can tell you that it is going to be an honor and a special performance. I'll give you a hint as the day draws near.

NO and NO. the crowd is so mixed it's silly. people from every segment of Stevie fandom are represented and there's no real majority. you will have no trouble "fitting in" and I know you will have an awesome time. I really hope you can come.

I'd LOVE to go to this in 2010 but I'm not gonnabe able to. I totally plan pn going in 2011 for the 21st NOTS though. I actually starteda thread here a good while ago to see if anyone would be provisionally interested and we could have a big Ledgie get together! Dani's got the right idea, just would be next year for me!

Seriously. later this year I think we could start planning this. It would give everyone time to get cash together etc...

For those going this year - have a GREAT time!!

:) You're always welcome. It would be a really weird weekend for you-- I'm probably heading back to Pittsburgh that Sunday and I'm going to spend the non-NOTS time packing up-- but if you need a place to crash, it's here. We'll work out the details later.

Do you have any vintage? Like a Von Furstenberg 'wrap' dress, or Halston? With stiletto sandals, if you got 'em. Prints are big here too, so if you have a dress (in violet and blue) with a print with a nice pair of heels I think you'll be fine. Accessories are chunky again, so you can load up on the cuff bracelets and big rings.
What will you do with your hair?

John, I love you. I giggled when I read "Halston and VonFurstenberg" because at first I thought you were teasing me and then I realized you weren't. I don't have designer clothes! That being said, I *WILL* have these items by May 14. I have some young hip friends at work. They are very excited for me and will totally make sure I am appropriately dressed for this pilgrimage.

Can I wear black, though? Instead of violet and blue (though those are both good colors for me)? I begin the elliptical routine this weekend, so I may lose the 10lbs I would need to feel confident enough to NOT wear black. Should all this be in a PM? LOL

Who else is going and who wants to meet up before the show?

I'd love to meet up :) I have no idea what I'm going to wear either. I don't look good at all in black, but it would feel like sacrilege to go to NOTS in anything but.

I would say that somewhere around 90% of the ladies are clad in black or other dark hues in a normal year. The year that the theme was 'Alice' there was a lot of red, and last time I went (I think 2008) I saw loads of white, I think the theme was doves. It varies by theme, I suppose.

How about leggings? I see lots of tights and leggings here in NYC among the younger crowds, worn under skirts or shorts. Check this out, from TimeOutNYC latest issue...

while the large majority do dress in some themed clothes, there are certainly people not dressed in Stevie-style or themed clothes. wear whatever you're comfortable in. I'd say if you don't want to dress in themed clothes, wear what you'd wear out for a night on the town. don't stress too much, just enjoy the experience!

I've gone without advanced tickets. It's a chance you take though, because as Jaz says it gets crowded and this year I think will be no different.
One year it took me about 1 and a half hours to get in. Waiting, waiting, chatting with the doormen to no avail though he said he'd try to help. I was going to give up and split. Finally, Johny Dynell came out and took a look at the crowd and I went up to him and asked him could I get in (I was by myself) and he got me in. And I didn't have to offer anyone drugs or sexual favors, I got off easy, LOLLLL!!!!!

But seriously. better to buy tickets in advance, for sure.

I found this hotel in 'Timeout NY'. Each room is about 20 square feet (LOL) but they go for about $89 a night. Hey, if all you need is a place to lay your head, it sure beats $250 that a NYC hotel room normally goes for.

thejanenyc.com

p.s- I checked availablilty for the night of NOTS, it looks like they still have accommodations (which they call 'cabins') available for that night.

p.s.s- I don't work for thejanenyc.com. I just know a cheap stay when I see one...

Wait, why would this be the last year for this thing? Definitely did not hear about that!

It would be amazing if Stevie showed up, but I don't think it would happen- she would not make it out of that place alive. It would be ridonkulous!

I hope that this year is the best ever and you all have an incredible night. I only wish I could be there to partake but I will be there in spirit! Every year i try to do something that subtly reflects the theme. nobody ever notices, but helps make me feel part of the celebration. (Most people usually wear normal going out clothes or really flamboyant Stevie wear. I want normal going out clothes that fit the theme: this year I'm trying to find SOMETHING with a moon on it.)

OK,

would it be possible or "SOMEONE" in NYC to pull this together,

this should not be too difficult, ie,

Someone in NYC who knows the area of the NOTS Show

Someone in NYC who has the local knowledge of hotels,

Someone in NYC, who can arrange LEDGIE meeting, (on the day of the NOTS)....

I think you'll look great in whatever you decide. I wouldn't worry about the shoulder pads...you should see some of the amazing creations people wear. in the end, choose something you'll be comfortable in cause it can get hot and crowded.

I've decided to wear a custom-made piece that I think is inspired by the NOTS theme (especially the curves of the moon), but with a GaGa twist. I wanted to do something different. you may not even recognize me. it's not conventional Stevie, but it's very inspired. then I have my performance outfit and an outfit for after the performance.

Not quite sure I could pull off the low riders. Well, I could, but NO midriff. lol I'm going to pack a bunch of stuff and see what happens. :)

Singing at New York's Stevie Nicks night
06 May 2010

A FILM-MAKER looking to make a documentary about the life of Fleetwood Mac star Stevie Nicks has won the chance to perform at a prestigious New York tribute concert.

Paromita Saha, 35, who grew up in Redbridge Lane East, Ilford, found out about the event, A Night of a Thousand Stevies, last year and approached the organisers about making a film of it.

However, she was told the only way to do it was to apply for a place as a performer and chronicle her own experiences.

Despite hundreds of applicants, Paromita - who now lives in Kensal Green, north west London - was selected and will join 11 other performers on May 14 at the Highline Ballroom, New York, in front of an audience of 1,000 people.

She said: "I have been a big fan since I was 13 so I was very excited, but a bit surprised. I'm not an impersonator. I just went with my own take on her."

Paromita, who has only ever performed in small venues to crowds of 50-100 people, is nervous, but hopes the adrenaline will kick in once the concert starts.

She said: "As long as I don't get booed off by drag queens, it will be all right. It's going to be nerve-wracking, but there's going to be such a great crowd.

"What a great way to spend a night - in the company of people singing the music of an artist you love."

As well as preparing her song, Angel from the album Tusk, Paromita is working hard on the documentary.

She said: "The film is going well. We have filmed the process of rehearsals and the next stage is to film the event and interview some of the wonderful, larger- than-life characters taking part.

"We are toying with the idea of interviewing Stevie herself to see what she thinks about it all. There are stories she has been to the event in disguise."

Paromita plans to showcase the film at the East London Film Festival and the Sheffield Documentary Film Festival next year.

Ok. I'm awake (I even already exercised and had breakfast).

1. I got there and the line to GET tickets was HUUUGE. Luckily I had mine.
2. I totally wore the wrong outfit--people kept thinking I worked there. And it was way too many layers cuz I was sweating like mad for jamming out to the fabulous concert!
3. I saw four cute guys, but none of them were interested in me. I blame the outfit
4. Finally someone talked to me. Some girl who was REALLY INTO IT with her friends who seemed fun (and we joined forces to shooh away some interlopers to our hard-won floor space). But when I asked her if she's on THE LEDGE, she looked offended and didn't talk to me after that. :] Never mention THE LEDGE I guess.

Unfortunately I don't know any of the performers names except for Jazmen! :sorry:
PART 1
0. Sisters of the Moon - Seems to be a tradition as a virgin dance troupe or theatrical troupe puts together a number set to the night's theme song ("Sisters of the Moon"). I usually love this part for hope of scantily clad male dancers. Although the guys weren't as ... dancerish (if you know what i'm saying) ... this year was interesting as the dancers were gay male and female, thus expanding the meaning of "sisters."
1. Talk To Me - drag queen. lip synch. funny choreography.
2. Angel - female singer from England. She started pretty badly (not a sweet tone to her voice) but she pulled out the ending well enough. The guitarist with long dreads was outstanding on this and two other performances.
3. The Chain - My personal favorite of the night. A full band played. And they tore it up. Totally got me pumped.
4. Sorcerer - I'm trying to remember this performance. Shoot.
5. Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You - Male singer. He meant every word.
6. Gold Dust Woman - Excellent trade-off between two Stevie impersonators.
7. Planets of the Universe - Last year seemed to have more band and unique solo performances than this year (which seemed heavily toward Stevie Impersonator). This was a nice combo. I forget her name, but she's really good, starting the song out acoustic and then doing this crazy remix at the end. Seriously, Stevie should explore this arrangement.

PART 2
8. Stand Back - Pretty ingenious re-enactment/spoof of the Red Rock video. Really impressed. And of course the song is fun anyway. It was performed by the Hohos. I mean, they had people impersonating Mick, the male dancer, everything. It was hilarious.
9. Trouble In Shangri-La - I think there were some problems with the microphone around this point in the show. But the male singer was really intense. Interesting song. I've never given it proper attention.
10. Sara - I was afraid of someone doing "Sara" (it's a long song) but this was sung beautifully. What a great song.
11. Bella Donna - Brilliant drag performance. The performer dressed in blue against the backdrop of the album itself had a blue bird on her arm and mimicked the pose for a good portion of the song. Very lovely.
12. Leather and Lace - Last year somebody used a harp and I thought it was really cool, but this year it didn't quite work (though I suspect that's because of the sound problems). It was cacophony as the harp and the singers and everything was just too much. This singer I've seen all three years and I like her voice a lot, but she's memorable for being sooooo dramatical in her facial expressions. lol
13. Talk To Me - Hmmm... I don't remember this. There were two Talk To Me's? shoot...
14. Silver Springs - Very simple lipsynch, as if ushering the audience through a ritual experience. Beautiful.
15. Rhiannon - Wow. Awesome rendition that combined the slow piano opening and the crazy ending. Probably my third favorite of the evening.
16. Gypsy - Why don't I remember this? I think I was just kinda blissing out on the song itself. Hmmm... I believe it was actually sung too. Hmmm....
17. Sisters of the Moon - My second favorite and probably the BEST of the night. Jazmen Flowers TORE THIS SONG UP. Great arrangement. Great singing. Better than anything I saw on American Idol this year that's fo' sho! And she spoke in tongues.

PART 3
18. Nightbird - The aerialist who did a mesmerizing "Gypsy" this year was also impressive on "Nightbird." I hope this remains a staple of the NOTS experience. Too bad most people had left by Part 3.
19. Kind of Woman - Don't really remember it.
20. Dragging My Heart Around - I think I was tired at this point in the evening cuz I don't really remember this either. hmmm... When I don't remember that's not a comment on its quality.
21. Crystal - Drag queen sang with acoustic accompaniment. SOOO GOOOOOOD.
22. Rooms on Fire - Lipsynch drag, but cleverly recreated aspects of the video. This song is SO about Lindsey isn't it?
23. The Edge Battle - I went nuts as usual. The most cathartic moment of the year every year.

I love the Rock A Little album cover! I believe her hat was actually black netting and that hat and the coat belonged to the stylist that day and she has no idea where they're at today, but she does still have that skirt. She said it was one of the rare instances where all of the clothing was not hers. I was so lucky my question about the RAL cover was one of the few last pulled on the Nicksfix, back when she was still answering them.

See? And to me, this is PERFECT proof Stevie could still do this song! Jazmen's singing voice is in the same register/range of Stevie's current voice. See? And to me, this is PERFECT proof Stevie could still do this song! Jazmen's singing voice is in the same register/range of Stevie's current voice. Ms Nicks could totally still pull this one off... if she wanted to. I really, really enjoyed this rendition by the way... brought goosebumps to my arms thinking that the Stevie of yore was captured on stage last night! :D

Please, Stevie wishes. She could not pull off the "she caaalled to meeeeeeeeeeee"'s without ****ing up her other hip.

Jaz, I think I've mentioned this to you before, but if my feet ever grow and you need someone to sell your shoe collection to? Right here. :wavey:

****, I saw you, I think! I kept telling the friend I was with that I thought I knew you but wasn't sure. Were you up on the balcony with a couple of your girlfriends?

Lol, I was! I thought that was you too and I was about to wave and you looked away so I thought maybe she was your doppleganger. Yeah I was wearing gold and my two girlfriends came with me. We had so much fun!

Hell yes she did! When I saw her in the crowd, I thought this bitch was Stevie for like 15 minutes. :o Then onstage, I was like "hmm...maybe it IS her!" When you're drunk, it's dark & the sounds is that loud, it wasn't hard to convince myself.

That is so funny! What an idea: cokey wild 'real' Stevie to the left, and the pokey Stevie who returned later for close-ups (with different hair and make-up) to commit the biggest scam in Nickstory. Very clever indeed!
They get a check-plus for this effort, and how funny is the Eliscia Wright wig?

My friend and I agreed that their act was very effective at first, but it started to become really annoying. I thought they should have done their slow mo thing, broke into their strange thing, and then stop the shtick altogether. One of them (the one with the wildest hair who kind of stayed on the left hand side) was driving my friend crazy- lol.

Yes it was just too long. Next!

I think last year people's costumes were more elaborate, I mean the attendees not performers. I was a little disappointed that way.

When I first got there, I was like, WHOA- my people! But as I stood over the balcony and looked down on the crowd-I could see that more people were not dressed up than those who were.

As an aside, I really liked Chi Chi. How freaky is her voice, though? Was it me or did she sound exactly like Stevie? She seems like a really cool and fun person.

I ADORE the Ho-Hos. Every year I look forward to seeing their videos on YouTube (since I'll probably never get to see them in person) *sigh*

Thanks for posting all your videos and photos for those of us who can't ever make it to NOTS. I'm crazy jealous. It looked amazing!

Glad you guys had fun. :xoxo:

Not my video, but this is the fantastic opening number, performed by the Rachel Klein Theatre. I thought it was incredibly well done.

New York Magazine has a video from the night's events on its website:

http://nymag.com/daily/intel/2010/05/man_on_the_street_the_night_of.html

Man on the Street: The Night of a Thousand Stevies

For the twentieth anniversary of the annual event honoring solo artist and former Fleetwood Mac lead singer Stevie Nicks on Friday, we sent our Tim Murphy to investigate. There were live performances (and lip-synched ones), dancing, and a lot of witchy drag queens. As you can see in this video, Murphy changed the night just by being there. Also, perhaps, the night changed him.

I liked Chi Chi too. I didn't notice her voice being like Stevie's but now that you mention it... I thought it was funny when she said she'd travel across the world for a party. :) I am fortunate to only have to go the 4 hours. What did you think of the British woman's performance? I thought she was pretty good but it looked like a technical glitch at the beginning threw her off, she didn't seem to be in it. Her clothes were perfect and she looked great, sounded pretty good but the performance somehow fell flat for me.

What did she sing? I am drawing a blank.

Also wanted to comment on the Leather and Lace, with the harp. That had to be one of the most painful performances I've ever seen. The harp was so freaking loud that you couldn't hear anything else and I'm thinking maybe the vocals were actually not bad. But I wouldn't know because of that crazy harp!

I read somewhere that Chi Chi said there will be one next year, it was never said by her that NOTS 20 was going to be the last. I think it was just a question of whether or not to go on, but since then, as far as from what I've read, there will be one next year.

Jazmen,
Hi! This is the first performance of yours I have ever watched- of 'Sisters'- You can sing!
I'm wondering if there's other music you like performing, or mainly Stevie's? I think you can be a really excellent singer of any material- don't ask me why, because I don't know, but I'd love to see what you could do with Aerosmith- have you ever tried 'Dream On' or 'What It Takes'?? Tough songs, but hey, you did a great job on 'Sisters of The Moon'- I bet if Stevie Nicks were to see it she'd feel: a) proud of you for doing her song well and b) a little disappointed in herself for avoiding performing it for the past 28 years!
Well, just wanted to congratulate you on a very good performance and encourage you to sing whatever you might want to try, I think you have good chops!
P.S. I can also hear you on a Heart song I like a lot, 'Tall Dark Handsome Stranger' especially I think you'd nail Ann's awesome opening of it 'I'm so tired of these men tryin to impress me with nothin'-- But that is one tough song. I don't think Ann herself sang it so well on a live cd I had, but the studio recording of that song is one of the greatest female rock vocals in history, in my opinion.

I thought she sucked. Seriously. Never thought anyone could suck the life out of "Angel" but she sure managed to do it. And WTF was with that stupid video montage of her various facial expressions playing behind her? Here:

Oh I think it's on for sure. We were talking to one of the queens after her performance & she implied the rumour may have been started to get more people to come. No matter to me, I'm so glad that I went.

From Next Magazine. It has several pictures, so check out the article.
http://www.nextmagazine.com/feature-article/white-winged-dove

For 20 years Chi Chi Valenti and Johnny Dynell, the nightlife impresarios behind the special-events production collective The Jackie Factory, have been inviting New Yorkers to wrap themselves in gypsy shawls, baby’s breath, blonde wigs and ribbons for their annual Night of a Thousand Stevies. What started in 1990 as a Stevie Nicks tribute party at legendary nightclub Mother has grown to the largest and most well-known Stevie fan event in the world—not to mention one of New York’s most highly anticipated yearly events. NOTS, as it is affectionately known, even inspired the 2001 film Gypsy 83. The party has seen celebrity guests like Debbie Harry, Courtney Love, Boy George and Cyndi Lauper, and some of the most legendary performers in New York nightlife—Dean Johnson, Miss Guy, Joey Arias, Sherry Vine, Sweetie—have graced its stage. To celebrate its 20th anniversary, we rounded up some NOTS legends—many of whom have been around since the party’s early days—to find out what the Night of a Thousand Stevies experience means to them. N

Quotes

“The first time people came from far and wide to perform in this thing—Billy O from Long Island and Belladonna from California. Seeing them perform for our crew made something click in my mind. This was gonna be big, really big!” —Hattie Hathaway (top image)

“An unforgettable moment, was the first time at Mother. When we arrived at 9:30 to open the doors there was already a line of people dressed like Stevie. That was when we knew that the thing was just gonna grow.” —Chi Chi Valenti

“Chi Chi and Johnny always make NOTS such an amazing time. Their hearts are in it, and it shows.” —Paige Stevenson

“The NOTS experience for me is an absolute nightmare! I’m the one who runs around getting the place open, the music on, making sure that we didn’t forget the tambourines! I’m the grumpy Lindsey! Which is why there’s not a Night of a Thousand Lindsey Buckinghams!” —Johnny Dynell

“I always tell people [whom] I invite, this is what New York used to be like!” —Cathy Cervenka of The HoHos

“I got into NOTS because of my boyfriend. He was a longtime NOTS performer. He was the one who showed me the mystical, goth Stevie connection” —Poison Eve

“NOTS is a gathering of friends and family!” —Heather Litteer (a.k.a. Jessica Rabbit Domination)

“Night of a Thousand Stevies is what first got me to do drag!”—Jonny Tingle
