but Asher has stayed in the business as a producer and talent manager until present. He’s currently working with an impressive roster of artists, including grunge rockers Everclear, the Webb Sisters, and Canadian bombshell Pamela Anderson.

“I’m in the studio producing a Buddy Holly tribute album for the 50th anniversary of his death,” he says of his current project. “For the last couple of days, I’ve been in the studio with Stevie Nicks doing a track with her.”

Asher seems so nonchalant about recording with Nicks that he may as well by talking about picking up his dry cleaning, but it’s just another testament to how many music legends he knows on a first-name basis. After decades of managing and producing, however, Asher returned to the stage with his former musical partner Waller in 2005 for the first time in nearly 40 years. They continued to work and perform together for four more years before Waller died in July 2009.

You know I'm always on top of the latest news.:woohoo: This makes me wonder if she's recording a Buddy Holly song? If so will this track actually appear on the record or will she hate it and scrap the project? When will the release date be? Christmas?

Peter Asher is famous for producing many Linda Ronstadt albums. Maybe Stevie will have such a good experience she'll ask him to produce her next album.

Any info as to what song she is doing??

And I agree, hopefully this will make her want to get back in the studio and record some of her own stuff!!

Not yet. This quote just appeared on the web tonight. For all we know this could be something from years ago that never materialized.

Interesting. Asher is the one who got Waddy hooked up with Linda Ronstadt. I bet he had a role in bringing Asher and Stevie together.

This is great news! I can't wait for a new Stevie song...let alone album!

Mr. Asher's work with Linda Ronstadt remains so well-remembered, though it has been many ages (decades) ago. In '06 he was a wonderfully kind (and nurturing) producer for most of Diana Ross' cd 'I Love You' and wrote such a beautiful tribute in a note to her that she included it in the liner notes of the cd booklet. He's a gentleman.
Sometime around 1992 or so, Peter won a Grammy for 'Producer of The Year' and thanked every artist he had produced the prior year, and mentioned Diana, and also Cher, whose tracks hadn't been nominated but were amongst the acts he'd produced that year. I thought that spoke well of his character, to not only thank the acts he'd produced who had been nominated and or won, but to also, as well, thank all the artists he'd worked with that year.
Eventually, Linda and Asher stopped working together, which is a shame. I love those '70s Ronstadt-Asher albums, and even 1980's "Mad Love" is a favorite of mine. When Linda R finally made a (brief, but very successful) pop-rock comeback in '89 with the quite good 'Cry Like A Rainstorm' cd, it was George Massenburg, not Asher, who produced.
Peter Asher seems to have a way in the studio with a lot of very well-known women. I think it would be very unlikely for Stevie to put anything Asher produced for her 'on the shelf', I think it will definitely be released, and most likely would be an excellent collaborative effort.

I'm guessing she hasn't stepped into a studio for awhile - this could be good!

It's great that she didn't come back home from the tour and just watch talk shows and eat hot pockets all day. Mama done be back to work!

I'm just not terribly interested in hearing another cover from her. I'm not a huge fan if her going retro either. Call me a party pooper.

The article confuses me (not terribly hard to do...) -- it says Peter's doing a show in Canada tonight (1/22) but he's just spent the last couple of days in a studio with Stevie? Where?

If they were releasing something for the 50th anniversary of Buddy Holly's death it would have been last February, since BH died in Feb 1959 in that devastating plane crash. I think Peter and Gordon reunited for a BH tribute show last February. Gordon died last summer, though, so maybe the tribute CD was delayed?

I hope it's true, though. And after Stevie rocks her way through Not Fade Away , maybe then she'll get going on her own new stuff.

Thanks for this timeline. I had an uneasy feeling when I read this article that it was written some time ago.

Come to think of it... isn't this all kind of, um... ick? I mean, it's one thing to commemorate one's birthdate. But I find it a bit morbid to "celebrate" the anniversary of one's death.

Well, maybe PA's comments about working with Stevie aren't all that old. He might have been working with her just before going to do this Canada gig, although that means Stevie's post-tour break would have been quite brief! I wonder if he works out of a studio in LA?

Ok so last night I had a dream about this song. The radio station near me played a snippet of this song as an upcoming preview. They said the song was three and a half minutes which is short for a Stevie song, and they played a minute and a half for us. I grabbed a blank cassette and recorded it. Although they didn't say so, the song turned out to be a duet with Sheryl Crow. I wish I could remember the song! I have dreamt several SN songs in my life that were brand new but don't exist.

Anyhoo, I was telling you Ledgies I got it on tape and that it was a really good song, the kind of song you love from the first listen and you were all asking me to upload it for you and I was unable to. Just like so many other cassettes of mine that I want you to hear, I am unable to "computerize" them.

Then I found out that Stevie was at the radio station so I went down there and there was a crowd waiting to meet and take pictures of her. We were held behind the VIP rope but someone spotted her in the distance sitting on a park bench with Sheryl and then mayhem as we witnessed the two ladies kissing passionately and all of us fumbling to get our cameras ready for the "money" shot. My camera got that coveted photo.

Next they were sneaking Stevie and her crew out the studio door dressed as pidgeons. They were the actual sizes of birds but with humans in them. Don't ask how--this is a dream, right?
The birds walked slowly passed us and we were all trying to figure out which one was Stevie. Somehow I knew which one was Stevie and I casually asked her if she could make the time to perform solo in Connecticut some time soon. She called me by my middle name-and I was so shocked that she knew it-that I can't remember the quick conversation she had with me and then off she and the other birds went in the limosine.

Yeah, I can see your point. It's probably not so much intended to coincide with the anniversary of his death, but rather the half-century-ago era when he was so influential. (56-59?)

That is, IF this is a for-real gonna happen project we're talking about.

I once dreamt of a new Stevie album that didn't exist. I had the dream in 1987, and in the dream the album title was called 'Clouds Through Sara'. I was very surprised in 1989 when the title TOSOTM was announced, because I thought for sure my dream title was some sort of a premonition that was going to come true.
Such weird teenage notions, lol!

I agree...if she's back in the studio she needs to be recording something she wrote. She is, after all, a songwriter...at least, she used to be.

 No, I had no idea she'd done that song! It was just the first BH song that came to mind. I'd LOVE to hear that! Does anyone have the recording David referenced?

If there was a Buddy Holly tribute album, I wouldn't mind Stevie doing one little number. Not Fade Away was the first one that came to mind. I think she'd do fantastic on It's So Easy To Fall In Love, too, but Linda Ronstadt's got her signature all over that one.

Hopefully not Peggy Sue, unless Viv's Stevie/Sheryl dream comes true, then Stevie could substitute Sheryl Crow for the Peggy Sue refrain ..... "my Sheryl, my Sheryl Crowaho, a-ho, a-ho ho..."

This is my worst Stevie nightmare...of all the people in the whole world, why oh why did you have to dream that it was Sheryl Crow??? :p I've had dreams where she was singing songs that I'd never heard before too. Its kind of weird when that happens. Of course, you can never remember the lyrics when you wake up...only that you really liked the song.

I agree about the Peggy Sue thing...I wouldn't want her to sing that one either. In fact, I find it kind of hard to imagine her singing any BH songs. For me, it would have to be either Not Fade Away or Loves Made A Fool of You.

To me, it sounded like the tribute album and Stevie's track are unrelated...like he or the writer used a non-sequitur between two different thoughts. And the article is dated from yesterday, so i would assume this is/has just happened, whatever the case may be. It's quite exciting!

You know, when I first read it I thought it seemed kinda unrelated. It's like he states he has been in the studio making the Buddy Holly tribute album and then he restates that he has been in the studio with Stevie. It seems to me he wouldn't have repeated the "been in the studio" part if he meant he that she was recording a song for the album, but that he has been in the studio producing the BH album AND he has been in the studio recording a track with Stevie, instead of being in the studio producing the BH album having recently recorded one of the tracks with Stevie. But who knows, maybe he just decided to word it strange. But I do believe it is recent.

Oh god, PLEASE don't let her do another cover. I think that she is frightened of the low sales of SYW, and TISL, so she just keeps on playing safe by doing covers. Could it be that she doubts the amazing talent she's got? Doesn't she realize that after 150 covers it gets pretty boring? I prefer to have one bad Stevie song over ten great covers. I guess we'll just have to keep our fingers crossed that she is actually recording some new material of hers. IMO both Stevie and FM have at least one good album left to be made.

THAT right there? FABULOUS! :blob1: I love it! I, too, have had dreams about 'unreleased' songs of Stevie's...but none as great as that one! The best one I ever had was about 'Fireflies" (which, duh, isn't an unreleased song, but still...) anyway, it was shortly after the Live album came out and I loved the song, but couldn't make out the words...that night I dreamed of it and saw this whole video and the words came to me and made perfect sense...the next day I listened and couldn't understand at all why I hadn't been able to understand the words...it's been one of my favorite songs ever since...

I totally agree with RockALittle250's interpretation. I think she hired Asher to produce some of her own songs. And I still think she'll be released on Iovine's label and we will see new solo Stevie released before new Fleetwood Mac music. So exciting to think that we may be hearing new Stevie Nicks recordings this year :)

My thoughts exactly. Stevie has already done 3/4 of Los Angeles... we don't need to hear her do their songs too! Stevie is quickly becoming a caricature of herself. And it's a shame... she still has so much to offer.

I agree Ronstadt+Asher albums are great, but I think Stevie+Asher is not a good idea. I think she needs to work with a rock producer, somebody younger and with new ideas. I find "Asher sound" too “bland” for her.
