It's rare to have so many albums to look forward to.
Here's the new and re-releases (upgrades) I'll be sure
to get.
Elvis Presley ON STAGE FEBUARY 1970 2 CD Set.
Possibly his best live album with him at his peak. The
remastering job done on his releases since 2007 have
been amazing. Due March 23, 2010.
Linda Ronstadt SIMPLE DREAMS 1977 released
on the Mobile Fidelity label Gold CD. This will be
the ultimate way to listen to this classic album. Due
March 9, 2010.
Sade SOLDIER OF LOVE. I believe this is her first
album since 2000's "Lover's Rock". She never fails to
deliver (hint, hint). Due Febuary 9, 2010.
Shelby Lynne TEAR'S, LIES AND ALIBIS.
I love her music, and for me personally I don't think
any artist has had a ten year run like she has. Not the
type music that's going to sell millions of CD's. She's almost
like a certain guitar player who releases "boutique" albums.
But do yourself a favor and give Shelby a try, you'll be glad
you did. Due April 20, 2010. Released on her own record
label EVERSO.
And a few artist that are in the studio right now,
making music just for me........
Alison Krauss and Robert Plant......can't wait for this one!
Drum roll please...boom, boom, boom, boom...........
working on an album as we speak...more drums..boom, boom, boom....
DUFFY!!!
The future's so bright I gotta wear shades.

Actually I'm excited about a few albums too although I have to admit, none of them are on your list.
On the Fleetwood Mac front there are suggestions of a new album from Jeremy Spencer, a new one definitely coming from Dave Walker, and if we hold our breath long enough the one from Bob Weston might make an appearance - it was due at the end of 2008.
On the non-FM front, there are albums scheduled for this year from Elton John, ZZ Top and Heart.

Peter Gabriel's got one coming in February. It's just him & an orchestra, with no drums or guitars or anything, doing cover songs - Bowie, Paul Simon, Randy Newman, Radiohead, Regina Spektor, Lou Reed, Bon Iver, Neil Young, etc. Should be interesting.
Most of the other albums I am looking forward to this year are metal albums, which may or may not interest anyone here. But Fear Factory has a new one coming out the day before my birthday in February, and Dino's back, so happy birthday to me! They've also got the amazingness that is Gene Hoglan on drums, and the advance tracks I've heard are awesome so far.

I remember when I got a copy of So. I rushed out and
got a copy of most of his previous solo releases. Turned out to
be a big mistake on my part. Though I still really like "So". "Red
Rain" and "Don't Give Up" are my favorites of his.
Remaining of this theme of new music, are any of you familiar with
Allen Toussaint's The Bright Mississippi? I happened to catch
the last fifteen minutes or so of Mr. Toussaint on Austin City Limits
the other night. And his performance was amazing. I will be getting
this release. It's weird how music comes your way sometimes. Was
it just coincidence I heard Toussaint on ACL, and then a day later read
a review out of one of my music publications on "The Bright Mississippi"?
Some music just finds you out.

It's cool when new music finds you...or you find it. I love that. It doesn't happen to me as often anymore, but man, in high school, when I discovered all the amazing things I listen to now...ahhh, nostalgia.
I'm not a major Peter Gabriel follower or anything, but I do love So. And I am interested to hear what he will do on Scratch My Back. Apparently, the artists he is covering are supposed to return the favor or something.
ETA: Also, you gotta love stuff like this:

What are our chances of getting Stevie in monkey mime paint, aping the ape, and swinging on a rope? Lindsey can already hop around whilst playing guitar, so we're halfway there.
Peter Gabriel is a fine entertainer. Understands the art of subtle eccentricity and stuff.

CNN recently played a video of Peter Gabriel's orchestral cover of Bowie's "Heroes." Um... not impressed. Considering it's been 8 years since his last proper album (which was fantastic, by the way), I think he could do better than this.
Speaking of Neil Young... I am in utter awe of Jimmy Fallon's imitation of him. It wouldn't be so gosh-darn funny if it wasn't so incredibly spot-on:

Why was it a mistake? Admittedly, the first few albums are difficult to get cozy with. But in my opinion Security is the quintessential PG album- it definitely warrants repeated listening. Be patient, grasshopper.
One of my favorite songs of all time is "I Met a Man" by Toni Childs and Peter Gabriel. It's, like, the greatest PG song not actually written by PG. Too bad it will probably never be reissued.

So excited about a new Shelby album! She's just brilliant! Her last album was great, and I'm a Dusty Springfield who so have, historically, not liked covers of her material that much. I Am... and Identity Crisis are great, although Suit Yourself is still growing on me afew years later...
Hear hear for the Alsion Krauss/Robert Plant album! I can't wait!!

Melt was the one that got me into Peter's music (along with finding out that Kate Bush sang backup on three songs on the album), although So is still my favourite album of his. It's actually one of my favourite albums of all time.

The mistake was that I liked So very much, so much so (pun) that I went
out and bought every solo album that the record store had. I probably didn't give
them enough time to grow on me. And they were on cassette tape, so they are
packed up somewhere. Only Mr. Marbles knows for sure.

Dodfather, I'm glad there's another Shelby fan on this board.
And to think, I haven't even told my greatest and most personal
Shelby story yet. I wouldn't want her mad at me, she can look right

Wouldn't it have made sense for Sony Legacy/RCA to release
ELVIS ON STAGE FEBRUARY 1970 in February instead
of March? One of my favorites ever.

Finally picked this release up. The first Mobile Fidelity CD
I've bought in a long time, expensive..yes..worth it...yes.
I think it's Linda's best album. Anytime an artist can out do Buddy
Holly, The Rolling Stones and Roy Orbison on their own material,
well it just begs to be heard.
Surprised there wasn't more tape noise. I wonder what kind of
tricks Shawn R. Britton used during the remastering process?
The sound is really good. The guitar sounds great on the song
"Maybe I'm Right" (written by Robert Wachtel). Sounds
like a good guitar should, if you know what I mean. Val Garay
and Mark Howlett could be proud of this if it were recorded today.

I saw Shelby open for kd lang, and walked away a big fan. I like Shelby's voice a lot, but what might not be as well known as her good singing chops are, is that Shelby's really a great 'performer'-- she was in some kind of 'female Elvis' vibe the night I saw her, and I felt fortunate to get personalized attention of sorts from her during a few songs, she makes contact with her audience for sure- There's no 'glass wall', which really separates the 'stars' who have every mili-second pre-planned from an artist who likes to perform. I'd see Shelby again, for sure.
As for Jimmy Fallon, I like him, but have this observation: dating back to his SNL days, he would often do uncanny imitations (one of the Bee Gees) and of other 'name' performers, even finding it necessary to take on the lameness of the long-ago 'You're Getting A Dell, Dude" non-name commercial actor. He was right, but there went Dell's advertising campaign and one hapless commercial actor forever since out of work!
It's like before Fallon had made a success of himself at anything original, he was always quick to point out flaws of others in the business. Jimmy's"imitations"-- while spot-on, were rather mean-spirited and he had no real body of work of his own to take on certain established stars he went 'after' -- he was a little too sure of his ability to be a wise-ass, and then he rather fell on his face as a motion picture actor, which may have been karma. Jimmy still is a funny guy and has it all over Conan, as TBS likely will soon-enough find out.
Leno may have been nefarious in how he got the show back, but Conan was pathetic as host, despite those who claim to have supported him, he sucked, and so did his ratings. I doubt he'll deliver for TBS either.
So, now Jimmy Fallon's had to start-over again in television on the graveyard shift, and I've seen his show and liked it.
I'd heard that Fallon's SNL departure was a power-play, they'd actually counted on that he'd stay another season, so maybe he was unable to return to SNL after movies didn't quite work out-- at all for him??
Neil Young is so respected and such a genius that I bet Jimmy isn't quite as cocky as during his SNL days, but who knows, maybe he is! I'll have to click on it. Either way, Neil can probably take a joke.
