What always bugs me is there's so many pictures of the early years and all the different outfits, but it's like they stopped making video cameras and photo cameras from 1985-1986 when the RAL years were going on and we missed some wild performances (on tape) and rockin get-ups from that particular era. I want pics of the Red Rocks black coat that was so awesome. I want pics of her clothes from that time. Surely with thousands of fans on here, someone took pics? This has always puzzled me. : /

Frankly, she looked awful during those years, especially on tour. I'm not trying to be mean, but the photos I have seen (and I've seen quite a bit), it is shocking to see her, especially comparing the 2 years prior. The Red Rocks video is about as good as it got thanks to re-shoots.
I vividly remember seeing the Rock-A-Little Tour in California and when everyone rushed the stage, I was shocked at how bad she looked. But regardless of that, the show was still fun.

I think we realize she was pretty messed up inside and out "85-86, but from the few live videos people have uploaded to Youtube from RAL tour, she was ok looking and sounding in them. And the wardrobe was still out of this world every night. So those are the images we'd still like to see from that particular era and tour. I know I can't be the only one longing for these pics and videos and wondering why concert goers haven't shown more. Regardless of how she sounded or looked. I think fans still would like to see, if only because there's mysteriously so little from that tour.

That is such a beautiful piece of clothing! One of my favourites, it ties with the black lace overlay from the Tusk tour and the tangerine one from the Wild Heart tour.

I've actually found overlays very similar to this on Ebay and online antique clothing stores. I usually find them by doing a search for "flapper beaded overlay" They can be quite expensive if you buy vintage....but I LOVE that whole era...the 20's that is!

That GDW from Iowa is my favorite performance of that song...ever. IMO the I Can't Wait from that show is also the best of the tour (that I've heard). The little hand dance thing she does in the middle was very cool..and the then she whips her shawl up over her head onto her shoulders. Pure RAL magic!

This is HSML. Not sure if the white thing aroung her neck is a scarf, or an overlay, again you can't see the outfits. However the video is quite enjoyable ( to me anyway ).
2:45- Wonder what she picked up, or was looking at.

3:12- Rock A Little.

3:43- Your doin' a u u l l that you can for me.

The dancing, the flowers, the stuffed animals, the head bashing, body thrashing, chanting and screaming, lights and loudness, the excess, the endless energy, pure happiness, the ribbons and tambourine smashing, leg kicking, mic off stand, squat induced exorcism, totally ready to ROCK. I miss RAL and everything that went with it.

Ahh, you and me both. I think the umbrella for all of the above is: PASSION. Something we really haven't seen since 1986. What I'd give to go back to see a few Rock A Little/Mirage shows.

Exactly right Passion is the key word. Ral/Mirage/ and WH all have that magic, and yes that is what I find my self drawn to about that era because it was so heart felt, it connected with the audience and we were just one big party rocking out.

I like how during the middle section of Stand Back Stevie would dance across the front of the stage almost slapping hands as she went by the front row. Yes it would be great if everyone posted what they had from RAL, and maybe as Sanne2 said, start a new thread For All Things RAL. Unfortunately not to many people responded, and maybe it's because their isn't much out there, but there are things just the same. I was at a RAL Jones Beach show and to be honest, I would never have thought to have recorded it. Back then (and really even now), a show for me was so freaking exciting and I was always very caught up in the moment. This was my first Stevie show and I definitely do not remember thinking she was anything but amazing. Quite the contrary; most shows after this one paled in comparison, imo.

My bad! I just checked YouTube and it's nowhere to be found. If no one else posts GDW I will try to upload it from my VHS copy. There's also a really good GDW from Nebraska that's shot closer to the stage which is below. I was there both nights, it was my first Stevie experience, and I would love to see it. I also went to Madison Garden to see Stevie on that tour, that show was off the hook. Words such as disturbing or pain do not come into my mind when describing Stevies performances. Yeah she screamed and yelled, but out of pure passion, and enjoyment, and feeling. We as her audience were right there with her every step of the way, screaming, clapping, dancing, and totally feeding off her, which gave her complete confidence to be free and emote her feelings right back to us, We feed off of that we were connected to the feelings that the music, and her performances bought out in each of us. Completely special, to be able to get through to people that way is what it is all about. Connecting to people on such a level is the reason I love music. That's the ****!!! It was so heartfelt and craved, I feel blessed to have even been a part of that. Many concerts in the 80's were wild, or over the top with antics. But at Stevie's shows, she just connects so much with her audience, it's just really unreal. Of course we are glad Stevie and many other people survived, but I'm glad we were given RAL in it's geniuine form, and that we were lucky enough to have Rocked A Little with Stevie.

I think what people are referring to as far as the RAL years and tour isn't that she wrecked some songs onstage and was obviously a mess inside, but we loved the fieriness that came from all that and the wild performances of that time. I was lucky to see some of it during the Enchanted Tour during EOS at the end, she had walked over to the left side of the stage (outdoor arena) by the amps and started going into convulsions kicking up her garnet red boots and she was dancing so hard her shawl just fell off and she left it there until the stage hands scooped it up after she walked away. Never underestimate our Stevie because she STILL has it in her whenever she wants to let go of herself during song. It's my fault I never got this on tape though : /

Oh no you're fine thank you for those! I can still make out the wild wardrobe and those subtle sparkly clothes that I love that she wears. I love the embellished tops and sparkle skirts.

IMO the Nebraska version was better, but this was good too. The audience reaction after this was amazing!

I'm pretty sure David was joking, and was actually talking about The Wild Heart Tour, not RAL.

No, he was talking about RAL. I agree with him, with a few exceptions. I saw 5 RAL shows. One of them was incredible and the other 4 sucked. However, 1 of the 4 that I thought sucked, David claims was a good show.

I threw WH in there cause I know David loves WH stuff. I was just joking with him. But of course he was kidding, I'm sure he likes RAL era much better than today. In fact I'm pretty sure I've read almost the exact same comment he made posted by someone else on here, except they were actually serious.

I thought the same thing, the "singing better than ever today for us" gave it away for me, I don't think David would ever say that about the Stevie of today

But David's heart truly is full of gratitude.

It'll be like Stevie and her girl-friends circa 1979 or so; we'll all sit on a shag rug, braid each others hair, drink wine and play tamborines while laying down some demos...

That video did my heart and soul good. I think what I love most of the RAL shows were Stevie's nonsensical, incoherent welcoming of the crowd. The half talk, half sing, half yell stuff is priceless!! And then the bit about it being a long set, almost like it's time to punch the clock and go to work.

I like both of them.

I don't know right off but welcome to the Ledge! We all have our favorite Stevie eras and looks and obviously she has awesome beautiful clothes we adore, some of us just get a little nit picky sometimes about certain pieces but I think there's a reason she moves some things to the back of her closet sometimes, so I don't feel so bad talking about it.

You're right. These clips are from the Nebraska show. This show was the very next night after the Iowa show. It's sad that the Nebraska show isn't complete. This would have been a fabulous show to have.

Thank you as well for the welcome.

I never get nitpicky about her clothes really at all. There are things I like maybe more than some of the others but when it comes down to it it is really about her writing and voice. I like to think that she would still be an icon even if all she ever wore were blue jeans and a nice top and never spun a circle in her life.
