Couldn't find the old thread. Figured it's probably old & outdated anyway, so why not start a new one.

What's everyone watching these days? Anyone want to chat about their shows?

I'm loving ABC's comedy lineup on Wednesdays. Old Christine, The Middle (esp. Brick), Modern Family. Even Cougar Town is pretty good. Other comedies I try to watch are Big Bang Theory & How I Met Your Mother. Waiting for Rules of Engagement to return (not sure if it will?)

Dramas? I gave up on The Closer & Saving Grace, I lost track last summer, was just too busy. I will try to watch Damages when it returns. Still watch Supernatural & Grey's and Brothers & Sisters faithfully. Medium & Ghost Whisperer if I happen to catch them. Love the new show Mercy too.

Reality shows. Biggest Loser, Amazing Race & Idol on network TV. Project Runway (new season starts soon - woohoo!), Launch My Line & Top Chef on cable. I missed the first Worst Cook in America, but I'm going to try to catch the rerun & see if it's any good.

Silly cable shows (don't know what else to call them): Pawn Stars. I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant. Deliver Me (LOVE this show.) My First Place. House Hunters. Hoarders (so sad. so gross.) Renovation Realities. Daily Show, Colbert & Chelsea Lately when I happen to catch them, which is not often enough.

Have to say that I used to love the Girls Next Door - guilty pleasure. No idea why I liked it but I did. Well, I saw 1 ep. with the new chicks - awful. I won't watch it again. They're really boring.

Modern Family and The Good Wife are very good, I watch every week. Plus, Brothers and Sisters. Can't wait for Damages to come back, and Project Runway.

What's everyone watching these days?I finally have DVR. It's a godsend. And it's pretty cheap, too, thanks to AT&T U-Verse.

I use DVR to record the following:

1. JUDGE JUDY. I couldn't live without Judge Judy, one of humanity's brightest lights & a beacon of justice, reason, & wipe-the-floor-with-their-stupidity good sense. She's like H. L. Mencken & Ethel Merman all rolled into one.

2. TWO & A HALF MEN. This brilliant show combines wit with truth. Some of the jokes fall flat, but overall it's the best American sitcom since MARRIED WITH CHILDREN.

3. COPS. A superb series built on a simple-enough idea: Thanks to squad-car video, we get to experience the thrill & the pleasure vicariously of chasing, smacking down, & busting the dregs & the thugs on the street. One complaint: The cameraman ought to use a Steadi-cam device.

4. REBA. This sitcom took a season or two for it to find its bearings. Initially, the character of Reba was the sole foil for everyone else's shenanigans & idiocy. But since then, the character has been allowed to be an occasional idiot, too.

5. FOX NEWS. Their programs are too often gummed up by grandma-&-apple-pie sentimentality, but the Fox pundits & their typical guests are still the most unapologetic right-wing commentators to be found in the mass media. Bill O'Reilly, please: Less "culture wars" & more emphasis on violent thuggery & activist judges, who are doing more to destroy the fabric of civilization than anyone who prefers to say "Happy holidays."

I need an Intervention intervention. Love. that. show. There are some truly sick people out there.

Also love Tabatha's Salon Takeover. I'm starting to use her trademark phrases in everyday speech- "I'm taking oy-vah." "I was gob-smacked!" "This is absolutely disgusting!" All bow to Tabatha.

And when it was on... Dexter. The 4th season, especially the finale, was brilliant.

And can there ever be enough "Jersey Shore" on MTV? Best. show. ever!

hell yes. i can't even describe how much i love that show.

And when it was on... Dexter. The 4th season, especially the finale, was brilliant.

i just did a 2-day dexter crack binge of the 4th season. ho****. good riddance, rita. i never could decide who was worse: the actress or the character.

i was so irritated with the baby premise and how plot-devicey it appeared that i refused to watch it till the season was over. they really laid on the mom-and-baby BS thick, but they did manage to make it relevant and it offered some interesting color & context to the story arc.

jersey shore is a hot mess:laugh:, i have caught a couple of episodes~

i like intervention too~ i watch it w/ my son & use it as a learning tool of sorts~ especially seeing that we have an uncle who literally lives under a bridge, because meth is his mistress~

anywho, during intervention they show the previews to the hoarders shows & i can't handle that~ i can barely sit thru the preview let alone thinking of watching an entire episode~ that show freaks me out~ maybe because i am ocd about being clean~

don't you also watch the realhousewives of nyc?~ bethenny is preggers & i just saw her hawking her latest book on qvc~ & kelly posed nude for playboy~ should make for an interesting season~

I think it's brilliant how they always manage to refer back to previous seasons for plotline elements. The only thing I didn't care for this season was the way La Guerta and Batista got together- from completely out of nowhere. And talk about zero chemistry! And yeah... Rita had to go- she spoiled all of the fun! I think Julie Benz is a terrific actress (with a great boob job!), but Rita as a character was insufferable. Unfortunately I think she will be returning in future episodes as a figment of Dexter's imagination (like Harry). But I have to admit I felt elated to see her sitting there in a bathtub full of her own blood! :sorry:

Yes, I have to admit that I am fascinated by the Housewives. All of them, even NJ. They are all absolutely the most repulsive people I have ever seen, but it's interesting to observe their antics, no matter how vapid or egregious. Call me a glutton for punishment. And I hope Tamra follows through and claims her independence from her overbearing husband. Maybe next season we will see her dating Slade.

Well, since I moved and no longer have the Premium Digital package or a DVR (basic cable is it, and a VCR as a recording device...UGH!), my TV watching has gotten down to Football, NBA Basketball (ok, Lakers specifically) or almost nothing (compared to a few months ago when I'd be watching a ton of stuff I'd recorded on my DVR).

COMEDIES: The Office, occasionally 30 Rock (used to watch more consistently), Psych

DRAMAS: House, The Closer, Bones, Criminal Minds, Ghost Whisperer, Medium, Castle...and when it's on, Burn Notice.

REALITY: Dancing With The Stars (and ONLY DWTS)

LATE NIGHT: Used to be a big Letterman fan, but now I can't stand ANY of the late night shows. I'll watch something on SyFy or History channel instead.

If I had a DVR, I'd still be watching: Fringe, CSI (the original) and Numbers & the final season of Monk...all of which have fallen by the wayside of my TV watching....and a ton of stuff on the aforementioned SyFy or History channels that conflicted with something I was watching live.

The News I get online, not from TV....unless there's something really major going on (i.e. 9/11, an assassination, etc)

I think what I miss MOST about not having the Premium Digital package, is the on-screen channel guide. I'm back to having to refer to the miniscule log in the daily newspaper....what is this, 1980 again? I'm definitely living in some sort of weird time-warp.

rita always irritated me but once i saw julie benz on some talk show (regis & kelly? jay leno? i can't remember for the life of me), i was over her completely. i can't even make up my mind whether i think she's a good actress or not, i just can't stand her.

i actually liked la guerta and batista together, but maybe that's because i want to bone lauren velez so bad it hurts. seriously though, i don't think it came out of nowhere. batista was single and lonely and la guerta is/was so uptight she probably needed a shoehorn to take a sh*t. with the two of them spending so much time together at work, it seemed inevitable to me.

i hope you're wrong about rita returning as a figment of his imagination, but i could see it happening, especially since he's deviating from the code of harry.

the evolution of dexter's character is fascinating, and the true genius of the show is the way it taps into not only everyone's vain fantasy that he/she is an outsider but also everyone's fear that he/she is a monster.

sharona - i'm really sorry, i should have used a spoiler alert :sorry: :sorry: :sorry:

Just about everything is available for streaming/download online these days. Its getting to the point that I only actually "need" my cable service for sports in HD... and occasionally the convenience of having the DVR to pause/rewind live TV. I'm seriously considering dumping cable entirely- its too ridiculously expensive when considering how much out is out there for free.

And Carrie let's not forget SPORTS SOUP on Versus channel. It's modeled of course on SOUP, but it has far more heart & a lot less of that preppy sneer & "I'm So Clever" attitude that ruin David Letterman's show, Rachel Maddow's show, & even Jon Stewart's show (all three of whom constantly put themselves above not only every item they report but every viewer interested in those items). Letterman, Maddow, Stewart et al. are alienating; the great Matt Iseman is all-inclusive.

SPORTS SOUP represents what's best about American entertainment & the American spirit of play & humor.

i hardly ever watch letterman. i used to watch jon stewart religiously, and i have no issue with him. he's on comedy central, for chrissakes. who is he alienating? palinites? sweet, they're not his demo.

i agree that maddow's sneering attitude bugs. and on that note, so does keith olbermann's. in particular, that maudlin, patronizing monologue he gave some months back about gay marriage & prop 8 made vomit rise to dangerous levels in my esophagus.

however, i don't expect much else from the MSM in a world where the up and coming generation is as jaded, insincere, and apathetic as this one is.

I'm loving ABC's comedy lineup on Wednesdays.

I absolutely love "The West Wing." They've been showing reruns of that on the Bravo network and I absolutely love it; I feel it's one of the best shows ever on television. It's very "real" but entertaining at the same time, and I love the way it makes me think. A lot of the time one of the characters will say something and there's like, other stuff going on in between the lines and I'm like, "HUH!? " and then I have to really think about what just went down; and I really like the way that makes me think - trying to figure out the "puzzle" of what was just said, or the reasons why somebody did something. Also, many people feel it's a "liberally biased" show but I don't agree with that - - Essentially, from one point of view, it's the "bio" of a failed administration - so I like the way it makes me think about the "issues," too. Plus the acting and cinemetography are often fantastic. For me it's right up there with The X-Files, ER, The Cosby Show or any other of my all-time favorites.

I need an Intervention intervention. Love. that. show. There are some truly sick people out there.

Oh lord, I got addicted to this show about 5 years ago, but haven't seen it in a long time. It got to be a bit predictable - on practically every episode, the first time they interviewed the addict's parents, you knew immediately why the addict was so messed up. Immediately.

I think I've watched more TV in the last 6 months than I have in the last 6 years. I've gotten into the Biggest Loser (I'm not sure I care for any of the participants on the new season - I thought Danny & Rudy from last season were super hot after they lost all the weight), although I have mixed feelings about it. Glee is brilliant, and so is Modern Family. My bf and his mom like Bones, but I've gotten sick of it. I can't watch those murder shows anymore.

I also love Food Network - I especially enjoy those cake challenges with that nasty Australian (or whatever she is) woman who never seems to like any of the contestants. And of course my beloved Paula Deen.

I'm watching more network TV now that I have an HDTV, and I refuse to pay Comcast more money for an HD box. Since I think sports has the greatest benefit of HDTV, I can live with network NFL games, and local network weekend MLB in HD. I also have to thank Netflix instant streaming for finally catching up to "Heroes", and all of "Jericho". I didn't think I'd like "Heroes", then I found myself watching 10 hours of episodes back to back on a lazy Sunday.

Drama:
Heroes
House
Fringe
Burn Notice
White Collar
Mad Men
Breaking Bad
Royal Pains
Rescue Me

Recent/Current shows I watch:

The Big Bang Theory
It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia
Burn Notice
Cake Boss
Dirty Jobs

I got season 3 of Bones for Christmas (not sure why I was given the third season, when I've never watched the show, but anyway) and am quite liking what I've seen so far.

I used to watch House and Grey's Anatomy, but gave up on both shows. House I quit watching because I never seem to get home in time to catch it, and it conflicts with one of my other shows. Grey's I stopped watching because it just got too damn stupid.

I watch almost nothing! I like The Simpsons and Family Guy. I really miss King of the Hill. Anything else I see is mostly music vids/concerts. I get stuck having to hear a lot of SpongeBob Squarepants and Power Rangers because this is what my son likes. My husband likes Scare Tactics. I have to say, he'd be a perfect person to be put on that show!

The shows that i found most entertaining (to me atleast) got cancelled:
Swingtown and Invasion

Shows im looking forward to watching every week:
United States of Tara Buck and T are my favorite
Dexter thank god rita is dead..thank you! thank you!..my sister felt the same way i did about her lol..but then again it is sad that she died and its all because of dexter
Weeds this show never fails me..i remember my mother made us (my sister and i) stop watching it because she thought it was all about drugs..imagine the look i gave her. it was like her telling me that i couldn't watch sex and the city when i was younger..but i still watched it anyway..
CSI: Miami...Horatio Caine <3 (Max Payne as my father likes to call him)
CSI: NY..best theme song out of all of them, and CSI:
NCIS and Criminal Minds love Abby and I miss AJ Cook in Higher Ground..:distress:
Heroes: couldn't watch most of this season :sorry: because One Tree Hill, House, and Heroes comes on all at the same time =[
Law and Order: SVU..i can't stand Criminal Intent for some reason
Grey's and Private Practice
the Secret Life
Degrassi: it use to be really good but now its kinda repetitive but i still can't stop watching it.
Idol: i love ellen degeneres and i watch her show everyday so im curious of how this is gonna turn out.
Oprah..if u dont like/love her there is something wrong with you.
Judge Judy and Judge Joe Brown joe reminds me of my grandfather..i imagine if they ever meet each other they would be like best friends
Attack of the Show: Olivia Munn =]
Ninja Warrior
and Hoarders..the first episode with Augustine was sooo terrible how the hell can anyone live like that and she didnt even know that she had 3 dead cats buried underneath of the trash she had in her house. and here was another lady who hoarded food (the only way she will not eat the food is if its puffy..even if it expired years ago)..i absolutely love the part of the episode where the guy gets a little sarcastic when she asks "whats the worst that could happen?" "You can get food poisoning and you will die.."

Kid stuff:
iCarly and old episodes of Even Stevens, Lizzie McGuire, That's So Raven, The Jersey, So Weird (Mackenzie Phillips is still completely amazing to me no matter how ****ed up she is), and every other old disney channel shows before it got really really ****ty on me and every actor, for some reason, believes that they can sing.. Alexz Johnson is kinda the original disney channel actor/singer who actually has talent..got nothing against Miley Cyrus tho..

Hoarders

So Weird (Mackenzie Phillips is still completely amazing to me no matter how ****ed up she is)

I used to watch So Weird when it was brand new. I enjoyed it very much. But at that time its schedule was inconsistant. Sometimes it wouldn't be aired for a month and then they would show two episodes and then it would disapeer for three weeks and then they changed the time slot and then one new episode and then gone for four weeks and, and, and you get the idea, so I just gave up.

From your description Hoarders sounds like an interesting show. What network is it on? Since we are both on the east coast, what time is it on as well?

And lastly when you talked about the show Dexter(which I've never seen) first you said you were glad Rita died and in the next sentence you said it was sad that she died. Which one is it?
Whenever I am glad to see a character die, I never regret the desicion to off them(in my mind).

NCIS
I've tried watching several of these hugely popular police-procedural shows, & I find that I can't stand any of them. They're all so derivative & phony, it seems to me, & they aren't convincing in the slightest (even as drama). Plus, why do they all use that damn handheld camera technique & the frequent zooms in & out? Cinematography is a virtually dead craft in the United States. The cameramen are a bunch of boys with no individuality or taste.

Hoarders comes on A&E.. if u have on demand you should definately watch augustine first.

So Weird: that show started in err '98 or '99 when i was 5 or 6. i use to watch it when it came on at night (i think it was before the Walt Disney presents thing came on or something cuz i used to watch that too).. so i had no idea what the time slot was or when new episodes were coming on =\

p.s. if you want any of the songs from that show i have them all

and the Rita thing.. i was glad to see the character go because she annoyed the hell out of me. i wasn't sad for her i was sad for dexter because it was kind of his fault because if he had never been around she wouldn't of had to die. So i dont regret that she got offed but i do regret that her kids have to go through that :distress:

:sorry:

I don't think that Rita will come back as a figment of Dex's imagination in future episodes, because it wouldn't really make sense.

In my opinion, the Harry in Dexter's head isn't really Harry. It's like the Dark Passenger wearing Harry's face, just another aspect of Dexter's personality or psyche. You'll notice over the progression of the seasons, we first see Harry in actual memories, but once Dexter realizes that the code might not actually be the right thing, Harry switches from a memory to an active thing that Dexter has arguments with.

But the code is what allowed Dexter's Dark Passenger to keep doing what he was doing without any fear of repercussions or backlash. Going back to the code would be the ideal situation for the part of Dexter that just wants it to be easy so he can keep killing. When Dexter begins taking risks that go against the code, he finds himself struggling with not getting caught even more & Harry starts showing up in his head to point out what he's doing wrong and try to push him into going back to the old ways.

The writers may choose to bring back Rita in Dex's head, but I would find that hokey and rather like fan-service. MAYBE if they swapped Harry for Rita now, and had Rita trying to goad him back to the old ways, that might be okay for me - because then, instead of Harry pointing out what COULD happen, Rita could point out what DID happen. She'd have more ammo and be a harder thing to ignore or defy.

Besides, Julie Benz must be awful tired of getting killed off and then having to come back to give important life advice to her character's loved ones. Though I suppose that, at the very least, she won't have to try to talk Dexter out of killing an innocent girl he nabbed in an alley so Deb can give birth to a fully-grown Gina Torres with maggots on her face.

you win at dexter. and life.

the way i was thinking, it seems as though dexter is pushing away from the code of harry and the dark passenger, but now he is going to need guidance with the whole Family Man aspect of his life in rita's absence. so hejira's suggestion didn't seem to wacky.

however, i hear that julie benz's contract is done, and your analysis is pretty much 150% awesome.

Haha, thank you. I have too much time on my hands. But I think Dexter is one of the best things to ever grace mah teevee screen, and I wouldn't be me if I didn't over-analyize things into the ground.

I agree that Dexter is going to need guidance for the whole Family Man thing, but he'll need it because he doesn't instinctively know what the right thing is when it comes to kids and such. If Harry is just another part of Dexter, a Rita in his head would be just another part of Dexter, too - and I don't think Dexter has the "right" words to give her to say.

If he is going to get someone else in his head for family advice, I can actually see it being Trinity instead. He didn't off Trinity the many times he should've because he thought Trinity might have something to teach him about how to have a family and a Dark Passenger - he was looking for something like a new code to replace Harry's, so he could look back at Harry and say, "HA! See? Didn't need you after all, and everything turned out fine."

I think in Season 5, we'll see Dexter struggling to at least look after Harrison. Not sure if Rita's kids will stay with him - maybe they'll go with the grandparents we saw or something, since they're not his and I don't think he adopted them. He's gonna be terribly angry but not have anyone to take revenge on, since he already took care of Trinity before he knew what Trinity had done. AND he had just come to the conclusion that he COULD have it both ways, only to have that yanked out from under him in the worst way possible. He may be all Dexter Unleashed. Perhaps he'll end up making a Mini-Me out of Harrison? Since they were both "born in blood" and all.

He's also going to have to deal with cops & junk looking into Rita's murder. Why on Earth would Trinity kill Rita? She doesn't fit any of his patterns - cops are gonna be curious. Will Dex have to chop Rita into bits and hide her so cops don't know what happened, say she ran off (she already had a plane ticket)? Will Dex have to pass it off as a suicide?

PS - I talk a lot.

I know one thing, Dexter will protect his baby, and do everything possible to ensure his son doesn't become the father.

As for Rita, that's the entire point of the last episode. Rita's death DID fit the pattern of Trinity. It always started with a young boy, then progressed to a woman in the bathtub. Just because the final boy survived (thanks to Dexter), doesn't mean Trinity would stop. The questions will come when Trinity no longer completes the pattern.

I think next season it's going to be about Dexter the widowed father. With Rita out of the picture, his ability to plan his murders flies out the window. Which leads me to believe he'll quickly find another love interest, much to the step-children's disdain. It'll probably be a reckless choice (see season two), and that will make up the majority of the season. I also think Dexter will rely on Harry more than ever. Dexter will ask Harry many times for parenting skils that will prevent Harrison becoming another Dexter.

That's my prediction.

Rita didn't fit the pattern. The girl in the bathtub was always young, not a middle-aged mother like Rita. He goaded middle-aged mothers with two kids to jump off buildings. Rita was the mother of 3. Doesn't fit the pattern. He just killed her to screw with Dexter.

It'd totally be a Doakes moment. All http://i697.photobucket.com/albums/vv335/nowgozombiego/surprisemother****er.gif and ****.

I just figure that since Dexter has to do all manner of things in the name of self-preservation, that might be a logical possibility.

Of course, if they do decide to do a story arc with an investigation into Rita's death, they may just have Dex figure out how to make the cops think it was just a copycat thing. Since they already upset & shocked a lot of fans by offing Rita, they may think it might be a bit too much to ask the fans to also tolerate Rita not only being murdered but then Dexterized in order to save his own ass. Copycat thing is a decent way to get around that in a plausible manner, particularly since Rita didn't fit Trinity's pattern.

Either way, I always admire a show that isn't afraid to do terrible things to its main characters in the interests of making an interesting story. Joss Whedon's always been good for that, but I can't think of too many others.

PS - Don't worry, I can't shut up even when I want to.

yep, i agree. as much as i hated to see lundy go, it really made me respect the writers that none of the characters is a sacred cow.

ilene chaiken offed a fan favorite in season 3 of the l word, but that was in service to her ego, not the story. so it doesn't really count.

I realize he was sending a message to Dexter, yet Trinity could've beaten Rita to death, or shot her, or dismembered her body as Dexter witnessed with his own mother. It wasn't mentioned but Trinity was probably someone with OCD, and had to kill Rita in the same ritual as all of his second murders in his pattern. She had to die in the bathtub.

Speaking of Julie Benz, who played Rita on Dexter, I've been re-watching old episodes of "Sliders" (Netflix). She appears in an episode during the third season (1996), and she doesn't look that much different today. "Middle-aged mother" is a harsh term to use for her. :)

Reasons why I think Rita will be back:

-Dexter is going to be wracked with guilt (which will be a strange, puzzling feeling for an emotionless sociopath like Dexter) and Rita will haunt him in his dreams. Dexter will be obsessed with finding out how it all went down. We already witnessed Dexter's pangs of remorse (chopping up the innocent photographer), and we see how that threw him off the rails a bit.

-Dexter is going to make Rita disappear and will weave a tapestry of lies to make it all work, including giving himself an alibi that exonerates his involvement. Rita will appear to help dramatize the lies. Plus, she has to be there physically in order to be carved up!

Other potential plot elements for Season 5:

-Both Quinn and Masuka are going to be onto Dexter and will start to probe about Rita's sudden disappearance. Masuka- because he knows about Rita's mini-affair. Quinn- because Season 4 foreshadowed his overall disdain for Dexter as well as his stalker-ish curiosity about the Dexter enigma- not unlike Doakes.

-Dexter Jr. will start to exhibit symptoms of the Dark Passenger, and Dexter will either try to discourage it or to manage it (like his father).

-Without Rita to keep him in check, Dexter will start to exhibit more and more of his dark urges, especially around the kids, who will also be the subject of a nasty custody case involving Dexter, Rita's parents and the state of Florida.

-As before, Debra is going to get in the middle of yet another serial murder case and either become a potential victim or break open the case (actually, Dexter will break open the case and spoon-feed it to her unwittingly) amidst condescending notices from her higher-ups. Some things never change.

HA! There goes my diet pepsi with lime.

Letterman, Maddow, Stewart et al. are alienating; the great Matt Iseman is all-inclusive.

SPORTS SOUP represents what's best about American entertainment & the American spirit of play & humor.

I'm sure you were first exposed to Matt Iseman when he was on Clean Sweep, huh?

Seriously? How do you have time to watch all this, go to work, clean the house, and feed the baby? LMAO!
I wish I had time to keep up with a show.

Who said my house is clean? :wavey:

JK. I love my DVR.:D That's the only reason I can watch anything anymore. And I always catch up on shows while I'm working out. I am a little bit behind on a few things right now, but there are enough nights whenI don't watch anything regularly that I can usually catch up within a week or so.

Now that I'm done quoting everyone....

Honestly, I don't watch much TV at all. I usually just somewhat watch whatever the girls are watching. If I'm here alone, I shut it off. There are I few things I watch when I do watch though. I've always loved Grays... been my show since the first season. I'm a whore for Family Guy. Giggidy. I like MythBusters.... and now I'm drawing a blank.... uh.... If I think of anymore, I'll post. haha!

We watch Mythbusters too.

I got season 3 of Bones for Christmas (not sure why I was given the third season, when I've never watched the show, but anyway) and am quite liking what I've seen so far.

That is kind of random. I like Bones too, but I don't watch routinely.

The shows that i found most entertaining (to me atleast) got cancelled:
Swingtown and Invasion

I hate when they cancel great shows. I am still bitter over Pushing Daisies. :(

crap it..i forgot to mention Torchwood..did anyone watch the Children miniseries thing? ..kinda creepy ( WE ARE COMING!!:distress: )

YEAH! I saw the "marathon" repeat of that...all episodes in a single day on SyFy. Great!!

I get a bit lost with "Dr Who", but that "Torchwood" season was WAY COOL.

I hate when they cancel great shows. I am still bitter over Pushing Daisies. :(

I'm still mourning the loss of Stark Raving Mad (the Tony Shaloub/Neil Patrick Harris show that pre-dated Monk)

ok, that is awesome.

the copycat thing is what i was thinking, too.

honestly, i can't relate to anyone who's that upset about rita leaving. she seriously bugs.

yep, i agree. as much as i hated to see lundy go, it really made me respect the writers that none of the characters is a sacred cow.

ilene chaiken offed a fan favorite in season 3 of the l word, but that was in service to her ego, not the story. so it doesn't really count.

Haha - I stole that .gif off someone on LiveJournal because it makes me laugh. Around Thanksgiving, someone even slapped a clip-art Pilgrim hat on Doakes' head, but I forgot to steal that one, too, sigh.

I've never seen this 1 Word you mention, so I can't comment on that. But no sacred cows is always good. Rita was a lot more annoying to me in season 4. I feel like she behaved differently than she usually would have. I'm not sure what the writers were trying to do with that, really. I do know that they've said in interviews, though, that they hadn't originally intended to kill her, and they didn't decide to do it until almost the very end.

Oh no no, don't misunderstand - I think Julie Benz is quite pretty. I wish I had her arms. "Middle-aged mother" isn't a derogatory comment coming from me. I'm going to be one myself in a few years, and I'm still awesome. I don't mean that to say she looks old - she doesn't. In fact, I noticed over the course of season 4 that they even started to give her less-frumpy things to wear.

But from a just-numbers standpoint, she's middle-aged or nearly so. I agree Trinity popped her in the bathtub because that was the next murder he did in his series - boy, bathtub, building, bludgeoning - but part of a serial killer's pattern is not only the things that they do to the victims, but who the victims are themselves. He never previously chose a random person to put in the bathtub - he was always putting his sister in there. Rita wouldn't symbolize his sister, so the cops will be curious, I think.

Or maybe not. I think Lundy would've been curious about it, but he's dead. Hell, even Doakes would probably have been curious about it, but he's also dead.

Reasons why I think Rita will be back:

Dexter has been slowly losing that emotionless mask since we started watching, and yeah, he is going to feel REALLY guilty.

I didn't think about the Masuka thing. That's a good call. Their decision to use him for such an important plot point in season 5 was interesting to me. I LOVE Masuka, so I was glad to see him getting a more active role. Also agreed about Quinn, they've been setting something like that up for 2 seasons now. Alas, Quinn is not as cool as Doakes.

I imagine we will see Julie Benz again in future episodes. I'm just not sure I can get behind having her be like the Harry in Dex's head.

And good ol' Deb. I could not, for the life of me, like her at all for the first 3 seasons. I thought she was ridiculously annoying, prone to stupid decisions, and that weird thing Carpenter does with her mouth drives me up a tree.

I looked at her the same way I look at whats-her-face - Jack Bauer's daughter, Kim, in the early seasons of 24 (and hey, 24 writers, if you're reading this, and I know you are, I just saw a commercial for the new season and Kim's dumb face popped up, and I want you to know that you're off my Christmas card list. You're on notice.)

If they have Deb fight a mountain lion in the Everglades, then I'm never watching Dexter again. But I did soften up towards her during season 4. Carpenter had some really great performances that I felt gave Deb more depth than I'd seen her have previously. So here's hoping they will change it up a bit.

Maybe LaGuerta can date the bad guy this time. Dexter, Deb, Batista and Quinn have all already done it. It's time for the Loo to have the same fun!
