I watched Sherlock Holmes last night. It was pretty good except it seemed like Holmes and Watson were Crockett and Tubbs (Miami Vice).

Ooh, I like that one.
I watched "The Hound of the Baskervilles" (1939) with Rathbone & Bruce most recently, thanks to the wonderful magic of DVR. I was never very interested in the Rathbone Sherlock Holmes series, but TCM showed a bunch of them the other day, so I DVR'd them.

Passengers with Anne Hathaway and also The Secret Life of Bees (both again) because they're both great movies I think. Passengers was especially eerie because I tend to believe stuff like that could really happen to us all.

I just watched The Soloist -- while it had a good storyline and interesting characters, I found it really boring.
I managed to finish it and it was alright, but I don't know. I just felt like it was lacking something. Definitely glad I didn't spend money at the theater to see it.

"Hangover" is very funny, but- like most phenomenons- wildly overrated. I was in Vegas earlier this week, and spent about two hours at Caesars Palace- during which I overheard no less than a dozen references (mostly of the "Caesar lived here?" variety- not the funny ones) to the movie. Its definitely a cultural phenomenon. Ugh.
Saw "Up In The Air" a couple days ago- its quite good, but ultimately is way too formulaic. Very underwhelming considering the hopes/expectations that I had. It would be a shame if this wins Best Picture- although I think Anna Kendrick should get a look-see as Best Supporting Actress.

Jennifer's Body: this movie isn't really all that bad if annoying teenage girl speak (and words that no one actually uses) doesn't annoy u. i loved the fact that adam brody sacrificed jennifer's body to the devil just so his band could make it big time...understandable lol...it's hard to make it as an indie rock band. Amanda Seyfried:xoxo:
Inglorious Basterds...again: my mother wanted to watch it...a movie where someone gets there head bashed in with a baseball bat is my kind of movie =]
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen: this movie is realllly long..i still liked it tho. Shia seriously had a Louis Stevens moment when he screamed (psycho robotic chick =\ )
Up: i am predestined to love any disney pixar movie and this one didn't disappoint me at all. the movie starts off kinda sad as they show the life of the main character from childhood meeting the love of his life, failing to start a family (i think his wife had a miscarriage or something...), and then they grow old together..but he is left alone when his wife dies..:distress: thank god the movie gets happier. now if only i could fly...
happy new year folks =]

I just watched "O. Henry's Full House," an omnibus movie with segments by different directors (one was Hawks). It was more conventional in spirit than I'd have liked, but it was well done & you could really tell that the actors wanted to share their love of the Henry stories with the viewers. Laughton was terrific in the first segment: rapidfire delivery & just the right amount of surprise at the end when the judge's sentence was handed down.

I watched September Dawn the other night. It's a western from 2006ish.
Has anyone else here watched it?
It really puts Mormons in a bad light. Very sad movie.

I had a bit of trouble buying into the premise of this silent film (philandering husband plots wife's murder only to rediscover his love for her during the course of a single day) but it was really beautifully filmed and I enjoyed it overall.

I saw that on Youtube and loved it!
There's people "in the business" who would say that as of 2010, this is the VERY best movie ever made!

It was very good, but I wouldn't even rank it as the best silent movie I've seen.
That honor I'd give to The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.
Then again, I often tend not to agree with film critics and the like.

A lot of times I'll put off watching what everyone else in the world has called a great movie, so last night I finally borrowed the DVD from my brother and sat down and watched it and yes, it WAS a great movie. I love this film now.

Don't know if any of you are fans of Peter Bogdanovich's films, but I just found this youtube! I'd never seen it before. Obviously not the best way to see it, but still so beautiful, insightful, compassionate.

Just saw "Up in the Air" last night. I thought it was an excellent movie. I may be a bit biased, though, considering I've been in love with George Clooney for the past 15 years of my life and seeing him dance to "Bust a Move" made the film right there. ;)
I hope it doesn't become one of those movies that doesn't live up to the hype but I think it's a worthwhile movie.
